Brendan: The Man who made us smile again!

The Man Who Made Us Smile Again

31st May 2016.
By The Holy Poet

My story begins in Glasgow’s east end

In the city’s own sweet Paradise

We had players with style who brought laughter and smiles

But lately, we’d tears in our eyes

We were bitter, dejected, and as fans, felt neglected,

But we always stayed faithful and true

All big buying was barred when we were linked with the stars,

They thought second class players would do.

They first tried to please us then tried to appease us

But a silence roared loud in our stands

With each sermon spoken, our hearts they were broken

Every tear was so carefully planned

We saw loan after loan bring in groan after groan

And what we saw on the park was a mess

We were flat we poor like some rich bitch’s whore

This was Desmond’s and Lawwell’s success!

We’ve seen players fatigued in this inferior league

Are we happy with just Scottish success?

Will the board finally pay to play The Celtic Way?

All their failures they must now redress,

We need players with heart who are skilled in the art,

Who can deliver that magical ten

But if Europe’s our aim we need much bigger names

If Parkhead’s to be a fortress again.

We’ve seen glory on glory but it can’t tell the story

How the fans have been starved and deprived

Week after week our future looked bleak

Now it looks like our hope’s been revived

The board brought in a man who’s a real Celtic fan

A man from the Emerald Isle

Brendan Rodgers’, his name, and football’s his game

And today he made Paradise smile.

As he spoke of ambitions citing our Club’s traditions

Ten thousand filed into the stands

We felt this man’s pride and the love he can’t hide

For the Club that he’s loved bhoy and man

He says he is honoured and will take our Club forward

Back to where Celtic belongs

He’s our number one choice and we’ll lend him our voice

Will he lend his and join in our songs?

We’re all buzzing, excited, with the fans all united

Let Celtic’s new era unfold

We’ve a manager here who is no puppeteer

A man whose heart can’t be sold

He is living the dream, in charge of a team

A tale that could be from Bhoy’s Own

He’ll pack out the stands and be backed by the fans

We can’t let this man walk alone.

Take it easy! It could all be very different by the middle of August. Never good to put too much hope in to one person. Yes, the feel goofd factor is welcome but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. In recent years we have been too quick to laud new eras and individual games and results and far too quick to start calling for the managers head because we are not winning 5-0 every week. A wee bit of balance is required.

It could well be tits up by Christmas but this is the first time in two years I’ve looked forward to the beginning of a season, I mean really looked forward to it. I am hoping, like us all, that we will be able to go forward, maybe even buy a couple of decent players and get into the group stages of the CL. If not, at least I have a smile on my face HH

Holy Poet, well-done. And there’s nothing wrong with some optimism and enthusiasm. As Celtic fans, we’ll handle anything that comes our way.
Your poem and sentiments are spot on. Good stuff. I was never excited by Ronny Deila but supported him until we all ran out of steam. We lost our confidence in him. Brendan Rodgers isn’t the finished article but he has got the support on his side which will make a big difference when Celtic Park is full. Hail, hail.

Thoroughly cheering! Chirpy, chirpy, cheep, cheep! I am happy to count my chickens just now. The hatching can come later. We desperately needed this smile and it will see us through what could be a traumatic summer – Res12. After that “que sera, sera…..” I have a dream though. Yea, I have a dream and it’s full of good things right now so keep poeting in the same vein 🙂

This is the best I’ve felt regarding the team for a long time.
