Celtic Dairy Wednesday June 1: How The SMSM Let Down Their Own. Again.

Social media does have a lot going for it.

As the concept of instant international communication allows for interaction with, well, anyone who will talk back to you it can be beneficial to all. You can interact with people all over the world, safe in the knowledge that they ain’t never gonna turn up on your doorstep and try to borrow a tenner.

And if they turn out to talk mostly shite, you can simply disengage and not have to bother with them again, instead of , as in the real world, sending you mates into a pub first to make sure they aren’t there.

Until it all turns nasty.

You see, whilst the majority of people who use Twitter, the 140 character instant messaging /public announcement media, are pretty much normal and would have no real problem in putting on a jacket and meeting you in a bar for a chat to save all the fiddling about with buttons, there are a few who can be quite nasty.

I’ve lost count of the times I’ve been called names, deemed to be ignorant, threatened , had doubts cast on my parentage and generally made to feel uncomfortable, and its just as bad on twitter.

Except there’s a nasty, horrible side to the twitter abuse. Those dishing it out would never do it in person, or at least not if they weren’t a safe distance away. so that kind of gives their somewhat limited imagination and lack of social skills , in their minds at least, the chance to abuse and genuinely  upset some people to the etent where it affects their everyday life.

Getting on the bus, going into a shop or even just turning around to lock your front door can become a bit of an ordeal.

Those who dish out the abuse do not have the imagination to understand how it affects their victim, but then again , that hadn’t occured to them. for them it’s merely schoolyard abuse, a bit of name calling that they see as banter, quite simply because their intelligence doesn’t go beyond showing their equally under evolved mate just exactly how they put someone in their place.

Thats why it kind of sickens me that when journalists such as -okay, exactly as Angela Haggerty and more recently Jane Hamilton and Rachel Lynch feel they have to step away from the media, and involve the police, not because they are afraid, but because there is always the outside chance that some fucking oddball, who quite possibly sees social media interaction as a window into their lives, and when he disagrees with something they say, he might take it that step further.

Unrealistic ?

Maybe ?

Would you take the chance if you were getting this abuse ?

No, you wouldn’t.

Two of the three , Hamilton and Lynch, have withdrawn from Twitter.

Lynch made it official, and we wish her all the best in hunting down the bullies who have threatened her.

Hamilton, of course, can count on the support of her colleagues in the Scottish press.

You know what, I’m not even going to go there.

I get the feeling, and I may be wrong, that those Alpha Males in the  Scottish SMSM espcially, are just glad that its not them in the firing line. Little knowing nods exchanged by the big water jug near the toilets, little smiles between themselves that they knew this is what would happen if the lass went public and told the truth.

Hey, didn’t they even “warn”   them …??

Know what, if those spineless bastards-there goes my job in the MSM- had actually told it like it was from day one-that their club was  dead and that guy who served us up with lamb dinners killed it-then each of those ladies  mentioned  above would not have had to endure the shite they have had to over the last few days.

They only had to cite this example…

Nobody in Darlignton, as far as i know, has threatened any journalist who reported on that….

Or at the very least, could the papers and radio have not  stuck to the story that  of them ran with when the old club was liquidated-key word here- instead of the Lazarian theory of Resurrection that took over the narrative as soon as some in high places realised they might get their fingers burned in the resulting firestorm.

Yes, I know you may have come here to read about Celtic, and I had originally planned to make up some transfer rumours, or maybe hint at a scandal or two, but then, in a stream of consciousness I got carried away again.

But there is a wider issue here, and as the adverts placed by the Resolution 12 guys begin this particular phase of the battle for transparency and trust in the Scottish game, how many of those lily livered copy blotters in the SMSM will feture the story ?

How many of them will support their colleagues who have been hounded by telling the truth-or even by asking fucking questions ?

None of them.

How many words swill be written on the subject ?

How many radio hours, or even dynamic and thrusting television interviews ?

The square root of fuck all, as usual.

An occasional piece in a national paper, usually just to appease a public which does demand answers doesn’t count, not if there’s no follow up.

Is there no follow up because over lunch those writing it discussed it with their subjects and assured them it was merely a nod to the public to try to maintain a wee bit credibilty ?

You see, by failing to condemn the behaviour of this section of society, by refusing to challenge their behaviour and above all appearing to condone and accept it, the SMSM have allowed the cancer to spread. Putting a little bit oif ointment on something as virulent as this might ease it for a while, but if its not completely eradicated it just comes back stronger.

It should have been cut out completely in 2012, or at the very least treated properly and completely cleansed to get rid of the festering sore that was evident to all.

Those fuckwits who abused the ladies probably  don’t feel they have done anything more than indulged in a little harmless banter. Thier intelligence won’t allow them to see what they have done. They’re still getting used to the delights of operational opposing thumbs.

The more serious accusations, the threats to safety are an escalation of all that, but have to be taken seriously, and dealt with accordingly, nonetheless.

Of course, none of this, or certainly a lot less of this , would be happening if those gutless bastards who pretend to be reporters had done their job properly in the first place.

It’s not too late you know….or was Churchill right, are the hacks just hoping the hordes will devour them last ?

When even the likes of Chick Young refuse to go on twitter because of the untruths that are perpetuated by this form of communication, then you should just come of it,why would you leave yourself open to abuse from trash.
Even Charlie Mulgrew has cancelled his account because of the abuse hurled at him by so called fans.If i was a Manager at a fitba club i would tell the players to cancel there account. If you dont like whats been said about you,in the press you can stop buying the papers.Social Media is fine if used in a positive way,but when it comes to abuse then just cancel it.

It’s just another problem of modern life and so many unhappy, aggressive people with their reliance on so-called social media. The promise of anonymity of these clowns who abuse people, and the seriousness with which the recipients accept such abuse makes me wonder why they bother to use these sites. Billionaires making a fortune out of peoples misery.

I had a dream ibrox was turned into a giant pawn shop with knocked off guitars and iPads on the walls . There was a mountain of blue scarves in the middle of the field. And mike Ashley was dressed as an Hasidic Jew handing out pawn tickets to members of the orange lodge Three giant mitre balls made into a pawn shop sign. Am I ready for the rubber room

One of your best articles Ralph. Cannot be stressed enough how these attacks on the free press need to be called out. I remember being in Fiji (long story) in 1995 when the Irish journalist Veronica Guerin was murdered. I found out via the front page of the main daily newspaper in Fiji. they called it as it was, an attack on journalism. Fast forward 20 years and the very profession which should be leading the charge is saying nothing. And they wonder why circulation drops? The mind despairs…. keep up the great work HH

Good read Ralph. There are so many levels to this . . .

Green and the Scottish football authorities – They created this problem and in my eyes they are ultimately responsible for what happened/happens after. .
SMSM – You’d hope they’d report the facts instead of tickling bollocks.
Sevco fans – How fucking thick are the majority of these people to fool themselves with regards the same club nonsense?

Ralph,

Excellent article that captures what we all feel. The problems that you outline go well beyond Sport. They are societal issues which means that any change is likely to happen slowly, if at all. Any media that restricts response to 140 characters is going to bring out those of limited capacities. i stay clear of it. Why would I want to follow someone that I do not know? It is a false tribalism.

Well done to the reqisitioners, in getting there advert published in Nyon today. How sad it is that we have to rely on outstanding supporters like this to forward the cause of openess, integrity and fair play in the sport that we love.
The SFA, the Scottish Media and there Hun allies are a complete disgrace. What comes out of this who kens, but at least decent and honourable people have refused to be complicit in the biggest Scottish footballing scandal, since its inception.
We wish them well and hope for some kind of reaction from UEFA,if not then the games a bogey.

Ralph,

The content of your diary took me by surprise. For sure i thought you would comment on the Ad in the Swiss paper…this is not to detract from your excellent piece.

However on the Ad, i wonder what will happen to Res 12 if the requisitioners walk away after their initiative. They would certainly be entitled to see this as goal achieved. The record will show that they achieved something on the issues. Without them, I fear it will all fade away. Without a champion, issues die. Incidently, unless a champion is found within UEFA, it will die anyway.

Sad but true,

Shocker over at Celticquicknews. Apparently Regan has been on an STV show re Res 12. It is reported that he said that once a licence to play in Europe has been granted by the March 31 deadline, it is the responsibility of UEFA to monitor compliance on the June and Sept deadlines to validate that licence. If this is true, it lets the SFA off the hook and puts UEFA on it. Now that would take the act of providing misleading info to a new level…misleading the SFA is one thing, misleading UEFA is another!

Do UEFA not apply due diligence in validating the Rangers licence, or is this the SFA not providing the whole story of what went on?

How can uefa validate when it doesn’t have the information to hand. Regan is an imposter, who should be removed from his post. Hamden park, when all hell is breaking out, where was he.

I agree about the English media. All through the Rangers saga the English media, apart from Alex Thompson, seemed to ignore it as just another uninteresting football story from Scotland. We heard little about it down here except through blogs. However, if the advert has an impact and the English media make an issue of it, especially on TV, then there are no buffers to stop the train.

People aren’t born bigots, it is all learned behaviour. It just so happens that the education of the uneducated is stuck on ‘repeat & recycle’. It’s ‘never’ going to change and the internet just makes it easier for them to keep their messages of hate regurgitating. One must presume that Brother Walfrid’s idea of calling the club ‘Celtic’ to help us assimilate with the local indigenous underclass hasn’t really went to plan. The world ‘has’ moved on and yet their bigoted, sexist, racist and sectarian mindsets will forever keep them in a total delusional state and fills them with hate, for they are infact the peepil of low intellect. If there was in fact an overdue payable as defined in UEFA FFP Art 66 and Annex Viii at 30 June 2011. Our tax expert advice is that there was from 20 June and legal input was that none of the 4 conditions for exemption were met by 30 June.

That in a nutshell is what Res12 asked UEFA to investigate because previous enquiries only got an answer relevant to Art50 that covered an overdue payable at 31st March. There wasn’t one under Art 50 as bill did not arrive until 20th May.

So Regan is playing games, and will be caught out, along with the rest of the cheating bastards. Now it’s time Dermot, finish them off.

I understand what resolution 12 is all about but I’m curious to what happens next? Anybody know?

jimmybee

Desmond, It has to be given a simple answer.
Why the sfa if they are so adamant in their view, that they have nothing to hide, has it taken so long for them to give a response, which in all honesty is pretty vague.
No one in Scottish media has felt the need or the integrity to ask a simple question, and to get a simple answer.
If what Regan says, and they have nothing to hide, and if uefa back up thus claim with concrete evidence, then we carry on,as normal. It isn’t a do or die situation,it’s a very simplistic question, which should gave been answered very easily.
If i read it right,I’m not the most intellectual, then so what if it fails. It needed answered, not for me or you,but for the good of Scottish football. Huns are on saying they lost, where are they getting that from. Because a clown denies it, they think it’s over.
Shows how gullible they really are.
It’s like someone saying they are a billionaire, with wealth of the radar. I mean who would buy into that !
HH

Desmond,

I also have no clue about what happens next. The Ad or Ads at the most can only both raise awareness and embarrass. The real meat is in the submission that the Res 12 guys made to UEFA. How UEFA react to this is key to what happens next.

Personally, the issues around Res 12 and the LNS findings have put a damper on my enthusiasm for the game. For the last three years I have been close to chucking it…especially given the team performance under RD. However, now we have Brendan, so no way am I ducking out until I see what happens under his influence.

But the cheating, bigotry and incompetent governance is a real downer. If Res 12 starts a process for cleaning some of this up. it will be a massive contribution to the game in Scotland.

What bothers me is that Regan. Doncaster etc spend their time avoiding issues created by their bungling and not on improving the game in Scotland. The lack of qualification in international competitions should have sent a message that strong initiatives are needed at the grass roots level to help devlop higher quality players. This is where their efforts should be.

Cheers Rebus – the SFA have been unfit for purpose since year dot and you wouldn’t leave them to run a tuck shop let alone our national game. The following paragraph is more from a bigger picture Scottish football angle than Celtic related but a complete clearout is required.

One of the things that annoys me the most is the poor quality in their choice of staff at Hampden (past and present) in key positions e.g. Appointing a an alleged bankrupt businessman in Gordon Smith as their CEO, it just wouldn’t happen in other walks of life. The cronyism is beyond belief.

The RD experiment failed and I think DD has realised that you need to speculate to accumulate and Brendan is a big name but he needs to deliver and deliver pronto.

Celtic need to capitalise on the massive potential that exists and I truly hope this is the first step down that path but time will tell

We just seem to be doomed to make the same mistakes over

Desmond and the Dekkers

Cheers jimmybee – will be very interesting to see how this pans out – I think I’m right in saying that the requisitioners have seen a good deal of evidence on this so on that basis they must think there’s a case to answer here and they wouldn’t have pushed ahead with newspaper adverts etc especially as they appear to have a level of support from the club.

Regan is very confident on this and ok it could be bluster but really don’t know what the end game is here……

My fullest empathy is with Angela, Jane and Rachel. I have to say that while I think the spineless, brainless amoebas who post vicious abuse on twitter should be rounded up and emptied into a landfill in New Delhi the main problem is there are even bigger gutless wonders working alongside the journos mentioned who should be sticking up for their colleagues and backing them to the hilt, whether they agree with their viewpoint or not. But these people (and we all know who they are) will never rock the boat and are already living in a Pravda society where they will only scribble what they are told to and will NOT use their own freedom to investigate the issues which need to be reported. Feckin’ shower of jellyfish the vast majority of them.

I am even more disturbed but not entirely suprised by the stance taken by the SFA and the Scottish gutter press.(the word press elevates them beyond there ability). Its now four years since they begun the liquidation process,a lot of water has passed under the bridge and with a lot more still to come.

I am usually not stuck for words but I am not into repetition either. I see no need to explain yourself about discussing Res12, Regan, the media and related issues. They supercede any other Scottish football news at this moment. The outcomes will have a far more reaching effect on us and the game in general than any waffling about imaginary transfers or repetitive interviews. Everything you write today is of the utmost importance to all of us. What you have said both heartens my expectations and confirms my worst fears. It is uplifting to read the advert today and witness the determination to find out the truth. Nor do I believe any of us should be disappointed or surprised by the response from Regan and the reporting from the media today. For the most part it has been the norm since I can remember with the odd exception when a good Celtic story simply could not be avoided.

If I am disheartened, it is by the lack of apparent support from fans of other Scottish clubs. Perhaps I get the wrong impression down here, but there seems to be an apathy among other supporters who, except for a pathetically small number, see these issues as solely Celtic’s problem. The longer we are left to fight a lone battle, the more opportunity for the “enemies” to gird their loins. To me a stronger emphasis should be given to how Res12 and its accompanying issues affects all of Scottish football. Although Celtic and its fans have been most sinned against in all of this and are the obvious lead, being the powerhouse of Scottish football, they are simply the biggest cog in a very large wheel. So, it really bothers me that we may be completely isolated. That would give the Reganites and the media the defence that these issues are being raised by only one set of supporters. Is it, therefore, more sour grapes than sound gripes. The supporters’ stance, of course, will not be helped if Celtic FC itself does not back their demands for openness. It could be concluded that no club, no fellow supporters – meaning no other clubs as they will only bend to the pressures of their own fans’ demands – no further. Oh how Regan and all the others would just love that scenario.

Perhaps through ignorance of the true feelings of other fans, perhaps because I am judging from a distance, I possibly have a totally wrong take on all of this – it would be great to be put right by those at hand. However, currently my gut has mixed emotions, one of hope and expectation and another of terrible dread of the status quo. If we think the reaction of the mob is bad now, just imagine it given a full pardon and free hand or, even worse, exoneration from all maleficence. The dictionary will need to discover a new word for VENT when it comes to the release of its anger.

Perhaps the secret is not to become obsessed. We are in a brilliant place right now. It is just that we know how easily it could all revert to the old duplicity. Maybe I am getting too old and tired to go on living with it.

Absolutely, perfect post, Ralph. Thank you.
You clearly see what I see, but you articulate it far better.
The absolute fucking scum, those who see Ibrox as the centre of their filthy fucking existence, MUST be thrown away. (Throne away would helpy?)
Let’s consider the SMSM 1st.
Their duty is to find the truth, and highlight the truth, without fear or favour.
Failures to a man, the SMSM, but not to a woman. The Ghirls are the only ones with, er, balls.
Emancipation came too late, but at least it’s on its way.
I need to go, but I believe in believers.

Absolutely brilliant post, Ralph.
Regret to say this is about my 5th attempt at posting over the day(from around 2.00PM) and I’m really busy.
Don’t know if it’s the site or my browsers. Anyway, I fucked Chrome off as it was mostly via that.
I started penning some notes about that fucking shower and their poisonous effect on society as a whole. (that ‘fucking shower’ includes huns and all those SMSM scabby, fucking sycophantic, grovelling, arsehole, follow, followers.)
Remember though, Bhoys, the BBC (of the SMSM above) is accountable to us as we fucking pay for it, and not by choice. They CAN be made answerable.
Also, IPSO, the Press regulator MUST act in response to complaints. It’s partially up to us, although our club carries more weight so we MUST pressure the club too.
I’m doubtful for the ETims night out but would love to be there and will try to do so.
Finally, one of the Bhoys recently suggested that a kitty was put together for Ralph’s drinks. I’d go one further; the kitty should be for Ralph’s travel, drinks and accommodation. Anything else is fucking cheap-skate from a bunch of Tims who just love the ETims site. I’ll find a way to contribute whether or not I can make the day/night out.
