Celtic Diary Tuesday May 10: Media Blackout ? Don’t Buy A Paper.

The astonishing media blackout on all matters relating to corruption and collusion at the SFA continued yesterday. None of the papers would touch it, Remarkable really, considering the new head of state media (Scotland ) is yet to take up his post.

The mainstream are ignoring it, or have been ordered not to report on it, or quite simply cannot due to some sort of injunction.

Whatever the reason behind it, as momentum against the media and the SFA grows, the whole cabal will collapse and we’ll get to see who has been involved in this orgy of mutual masturbation, and just how much of the game has been affected by this particular virus.

Kenny McIntyre, who does a show on Radio Scotland where “the fans set the agenda ”  offered an explanation…

Actually, he offered two explanations, first the “not enough to merit a discussion “line, which is fair enough if he’s doing a six day show, and secondly,  the old “legalities ” default position, which , unless there is an injunction in place, is , er,

Though note the wording, how its not “worthy “.

That shows he, too, thinks its the work of loonies, which is another default position taken by piss poor journalists when they see work appear that is beyond their own limited capabilities.

To start the ball rolling, any journalist who needs a hand here, should simply ask the SFA when they were aware of the wee tax case bill, and the letter of 20th May that accompanied it.

Or of course, we could all email Regan and ask him… seeing as how the sports press are using their balls for the sole purpose of mutual enjoyment with the SFA.

For now though, instead of buying a paper today, or any other day, pop into the newsagent and put the ten bob or whatever they cost these days into the wee charity box.

At least you’ll feel cleaner.

Speaking of the media, perhaps this explains it a wee bit;

Photo published for A serious problem the news industry does not talk about — We Are Hearken

Steve Coogan, wroter, actor and movie maker , in his autobiography “Easily Distracted “, claims that the idea behind newspapers these days is to protect the brand, and to circle the wagons when the brand is under threat. The truth is of little consequence, and all that matters is the sales figures, and the advertising revenue.

Real reporters are now few and far between, as an official from the US presidential staff confirms in a recent Washington Post;

And in Scotland it’s worse, they don’t seem to want to know anything.

This summer, instead of the usual wait for the friendlies , or renewing season books, its time to make our voices heard, and not buying the papers or listening to those aural vomit inducing shows would be a start.

Ah, the football, you say…

John Collins has announced he’s quitting Celtic in the wake of Ronny Deila’s exit;

“I came with Ronny so I think it’s only correct that I move on as well, so Sunday will also be my last game.

“Hopefully, the new manager will come in, make it six-in-a-row and have a run in Europe.

“We wanted more from ourselves and the coaching staff – we wanted more goals and better performances in Europe and the other big games.

“But we’ve tried our best and we’ve worked hard, that’s for sure.

“The results haven’t gone our way in the big games but that’s down to small details.”

The Collins saga is a warning to other ex players, players who have served the club well in the past that what you did on the pitch counts for little when it goes wrong off it.

Collins, who stayed for six lean years, is up there with the best of them in the last twenty years when it comes to on field service, and only the harshest among us can begrudge him his free transfer move.

However, he does seem to be blamed for most of the ill feeling at Celtic just now, and maybe he , too, fell short when it came to handing big egos.

Collins mentioned his six years at the club yesterday, and reminded the support what they were like..

I never won a league title here and it was a tough six years because of that.

“A lot of Celtic supporters forget about those six years. We were behind our rivals when they were the biggest spenders in Britain. They’d half the England team. We were second-best and that was a seriously tough time.

“[It was] miles tougher, Being in this city when Rangers are buying Paul Gascoigne, Brian Laudrup, Trevor Steven, Gary Stevens, Richard Gough, Terry Butcher, Mark Hateley – that was seriously tough, coming up against them.

“Knowing they were probably better than you in seven positions on the pitch. Massive squad as well. But it was a challenge as a player.

“And here are, we’ve been here two years, we’ve won two titles and it feels like the end of the world for a lot of people.

“Trust me, when I was a player, this club was in a much worse position, no stadium, no titles, a long way from where we are just now.

“We’ve got a magnificent stadium, five titles in a row and going for a sixth. But that’s the world we live in.

“We’ll maybe look back a few years from now when it’s not five in a row, maybe when someone else has won, and think ‘maybe it wasn’t that bad’.”

Had the management team a PR crew they could rely on, and a wee bit more support from senior players, then things might have been different.

With the new manager on the way, lets see if he can shake the place up a bit and clear out the bad apples.

Before the first qualifier takes place.

Meanwhile, football really has become a bit of a girls game of late, no disrespect to the ladies who play it, as they play it in the true spirit of the game, as opposed to the corporate game we pay into.

With the players already forced to wear bras, in order to make sure they run about a bit on the park, like when you get a tracker put in your company motor, next season it gets worse..

Wonder if this is part of a fenian conspiracy to improve Scott Browns passing ?

Teamtalks will be a little different next year.

“Now lads, make sure your hem and stockings  match up, and your bra is on correctly. ”

I suppose you could also point out that the other team will also be dressed like that, and you could tell your own players they “don’t like it up ’em “, though frankly, it’d be hard to persuade them of that.

Bras, matching hems , matching stockings.

And a game thats rigged from day one.

I’ll be watching the rugby next season, oh, wait, they all stick each others heads up each others bottoms, and then get into a big bath together after spending an hour and a half playing chase me chase me.

Golf-nope, hitting a ball as hard as you can and trudging after it ? And then hitting it again when you get there ?

No thanks.

What are we going to do ?

We need our game back, and we need it back now.

We could do a lot worse than look at Philip Cocu as our next manager…check out his credentials, three year deal and he could move onto the big time in England after that…one to watch.

Cocu is a good manager but he’s overrated. The main man behind the 2-year PSV success period is Marcel Brands, the director of football. He’s the one who provided Cocu with far superior player material than Ajax. Coco should have had the title wrapped up a couple of weeks ago. Altough he’s a prickDe, Boer is a far better manager who’s looking to leave Ajax.

And Collins says Celtic will not be able to compete at the highest level in Europe unless they break the current wage structure by “four or fives times” the current rate.

hmmmmmmmm, interesting comment from collins, for those who doubted we had a 15 a week wage cap at the club

I’m not interested in one single word Ronny Deila or John Collins has to say, as a player I loved John Collins and I hope he goes on and makes a name for himself as a manager, but for the love of God, I just want a clear out now.
I don’t even listen to Ronny Deila now, just fuck off and take Ambrose with you and Johansen.
Still no word on a manager, what are they waiting for for fuck sake.
On Sunday when the final whistle went, I felt nothing, glad we won the league but the euphoria normally associated with a title win was absent, this is where I am with Celtic, utterly frustrated at the way we are going as a club.
We need a big name manager who can put the feelgood factor back into the dressing room and in the stands, the place needs lifting, we need inspiration and motivation again, we need quality out on the park.
Would really love to see some of the development team break through and have an impact like Kieran Tierney, this lad has kept my interest going this season, a wonderful attitude and a big, big player for us, let’s see more of this type on the pitch.
Desmond/Lawwell, it’s time to think big again, get it right on the park and in the dugout, the fans will do the rest.

Come on you Bhoys in Green!

The truth will out…..not from the SMSM but more likely from the media down south.
That John Collins can talk alot of pish.
The truth about our team under this management is that they are bottlers, just about every big game we failed in Europe and the cups. The game against Aberdeen showed this too, 3-0 up at home yet at 1 point it looked like we were going to lose the game.
Just can’t wait for Ronny and Jonny to leave and hope we get the right man in to transform our team from bottlers to winners with fight and spirit with real determination which see us qualify for the CL

You’ve got to feel for Celtic players and management. Whilst everywhere in Europe league titles are full of celebration, ours is diluted.
A media trying all they have to keep us off the back pages.
We need to Celebrate every title we win.
For ours is a victory over the establishment.
Whilst they continue to help one club only,we need to hold the morale ground.
So as the trophy is presented, lets celebrate a victory for the cause.
The cause which says I’m Right.

Totally agree with you Jimmy Bee, the medium/media have done everything over the last two years to bad mouth Celtic, Delilah included a nice guy with a pliant PR department behind him. When Sevco are mentioned at a press conference, end of.

Some people on this site are far too young to remember the fifties and early sixties and only refer to the Stein era.
We have five in a row, that is an achievement, irrespective of Sevco.

The problem with the team lies with parsimony of the board, who should announce this week that the new manager starts on Monday, instead of dithering.

I thought John Collins said a lot of interesting things and maybe history will be kinder to the Ronnie years. When you see what young players like Griffiths, Roberts and KT say an out Delia you realise what a good assistant head coach he would have made. He couldn’t do it in Europe or key matches like semi finals we need someone with more charisma, power or as Lenny would say “Thunder”.
The Board have been told appoint someone with class and strength and a track record of at least managing in a top league and the trophies will come( nearly said follow, don’t like that word).

Leicester have lost 3 games in the League this Season it is rightly being hailed as a great achievement.
So have Celtic it is wrongly being hailed as an irrelevance.
It was a major factor as to why we won the title last week.
Iwon’t be putting another penny into the game whilst it continues to be run and governed the way it is.

Guys,
Just a couple of things here….
1. Can we all be civil to each other please – one of the things i find increasingly annoying about some of our supporters is their attitude to others who do not share their own opinion. This smacks to me of the very same (WATP) attitude which pervades from the supporters of the team currently plying its trade from Govan. We are Celtic supporters and we welcome all views / opinions. It’s basically, in a nutshell, what separates us from the great unwashed.
2. Whether we like it or not, the present board run the club like a business. To this end – they have only spent enough to keep us champions of Scotland whilst a certain reincarnation make their laboured way to the top division. Mr. Lawell told us this some time ago (i.e. we don’t rely on CL money for our business model).
3. Now’s the time to step on the financial gas. We are light years ahead of everyone else in this country – I hope the board demonstrate that fact to the support ASAP.

@bgbhoy
Point 1
Europe is never a given even less so when you are buying mediocrity and punting your best players every summer.
Point 2
Ronny Deila was appointed as the Manager of Celtic and as such should be treated with the repsect that position commands.
His vision was never going to be realised in 1 or 2 Seasons and I have always maintained I would review that no earlier than 2 seasons in before making my mind up whether he was cut out to be Celtic Manager
Point 3
Losing to Malmo and Molde is where we are currently at as a Club.
We don’t spend like a top level outfit so therefore we don’t play like one either.
I have maintained we are at best an average Europa League side and will continue to be so until we start thinking and acting otherwise.
If you aare going to quote me then do make sure you get it right “lad”.

Absolutely agree with your point one; this site is deeply depressing at times with the amount of abuse hurled around at fellow Celtic supporters by fellow Tims. We all care deeply. It is perfectly reasonable to disagree with each other – somethings are pretty black and white (e.g Resolution 12 and Deila and co’s shortcomings) whilst others admit much less clarity (e.g is Scott Browm finished?.

jrw – exactly – one word answers – constructive, reasonable, thought provoking they are not. Of course the club needs to pick up the resolution 12 cudgels on behalf of us – they have badly underestimated the strength of feeling we have against the centuries of hatred and injustice inflicted upon us by them and the ruling Scottish football establishment. That will be to this boards eternal shame if they sit on their hands and do nothing. As for Ronnie – God love him – he was out of his depth – but honestly would any “contributors” on here have turned down the job? – doubt it – although they may (in their own mind) have done a much better job!!

Scott Brown is NOT finished! That is only a staunch belief and I have only a tiny shred of supporting evidence. He played well for most of a game against Hearts. I blame the poor form of ALL our international players on the language used by Ronny when failing in properly man managing our top players. You may have noticed that the players who needed to improve did while the experienced ones got shite.

Charlie Saiz

Reply to  Uralius

Fromw what I have seen Scott Brown is on the slide as a player.
He’s lost a yard, his passing is verging on Pub League/Sunday League at times and without his levels of input he has put in over the years his game suffers badly as a result.
Age and years (well over a decade) of massive physical output in games have now began to take their toll.
I think Brown knows he is on the slide and I suspect he will retire earlier than he probably envisaged when he set out as a pro.
On the players I think there are players in that dressing room who have gone out of their way to undermine him.
Players he never brought into the side but inherited from Lenny.
It will all come out in time so let’s see what transpires?
My money is on Commons being at the centre of the issue though.

Aye John collins, my first Celtic games were him and Mc Stay in midfiled, Brian mc Laughllin on the wing, Sid up front. Such an odd tema, Collins and Mc Stay were genuinley world class (though the Maestros ankles by this time were causing him a lot of bother) a couple of prmising kids and some right duds.

Have to say you don’t start downsizing a business when it’s flourishing ,as we did from Dec 2012.
We were in the LAST 16 of the CL , were high profile after beating Barca , yet instead of kicking on with that momentum , we slammed the brakes on ; presumably to wait on the “hard shoulder “, for an entity from Ibrox , and a return to “normality”.
Forward vision would have seized the opportunity , realizing the finances we were reaping in the CL , and planned to grow in that environment .
Lack of any real vision was to sell an asset circa 13m every summer and wait on “the return of the old firm”. Yeah , genius !
As for ” the return of the old firm ” ; surely all credibility re – that thought process has been blown out of the water with the recent revelations .(yes , I mean you , Celtic board)
Surely we’re now in new territory .
Surely we can’t just “move on ” to a new season / new manager .
The game has been shown to be rigged/fixed , past, present , and without doubt , future .
I don’t know what the answer to all this is; but , it can’t be ” let’s just move on and the truth will eventually come out, and get sorted “.
Do I want to buy into, and by definition SUPPORT a rigged game , pretending that it’s not ?
Do Celtic want to play in a rigged game now that they know they’ve been doing just that for 2 or 3 decades ?
Monti talked of being deflated despite 5 in a row .
So am I , but for a different reason .
I mean , unless this is all challenged , dealt with , instead of subjugated , as the media are attempting , then what’s the fucking point?
The Scottish game’s corrupt .Devoid of credibility .
Everyone knows it .
But nobody wants to do anything about it .
Next season ? As I said ,what’s the fucking point .

Well said jpm88,what is the point in any sport if it is rigged by doping or financial doping,or when the governing body is there to support one club/team only.
We need action not empty promises and we need action now.

we’ve even got it with the refs.
In other leagues the ref has to state his allegiances , and by the way , it will be checked.
When our refs were asked about this , it was ” no need for that here “.
So we’re all just supposed to swallow that ; I don’t think so!
I’ve seen fans posting on here with things like ” we’ll need a 20 pt gap to account for the refs “honest mistakes” next season”.
This is 2016 . Why the fuck should we need a hedge against dodgy refs?
Celtic should be alarmed by what the Offshore guys have reported ;there’s also a question been raised this week re- a European licence for sevco next season ,with claims of a repeat of their 2011 creative accounting.
It’s Celtic’s duty to protect the fans from being cheated by a rigged game.
At the least they should be discussing the Offshore guys findings with 1.the SFA , if no joy there then next port of call would be 2. UEFA .I understand that with a new manager and players , a lot of fans just want to get on with next season ; but I think hard as it is , the club/clubs and fans really need to stand their ground , as in summer 2012.
Otherwise , we’ll just be on here game after game / season after season complaining about being robbed by this ref , cheated by this SFA decision , done over by this media or that media outlet.
My message to my club would be ; is it too much to ask that you can guarantee , when taking our money , a fair ,clean and transparent competition , or product if you like?
I mean , seriously Celtic , can you guarantee that from this season on?
If the answer is that you can’t , then the next question is , What are you going to do about it?

jpm88, i could not have expressed that better,I keep waiting and hoping that the Board will reply to all the issues you raised,so far nothing.
The support have got one card to play at present,(there best one) do not renew your season ticket until they do something,if they do nought then a lot of hurting long term supporters will only have one option, walk away, this is the very last thing that they want to do.

Deila’s vision collapsed. Those of who supported that vision feel let down too. However, Deila did some good as well. He got our club fitter. He brought on Tierney, Griffiths and McGregor. He brought Paddy Roberts in. There are some other good signings. He won us 4 and 5 in a row. Charlie Saiz, myself and others couldn’t predict the future. We didn’t improve and we failed in the big games, including Europe. We admit we got some things wrong. Now, we have many on this site who are so full of bitterness and smugness. Let it go. Charlie Saiz, me and others will support our new manager, our new playing style and Celtic in general. I am the same age as Danny McGrain and Kenny Dalglish and will continue to support Celtic. Sometimes, that means admitting mistakes. But Deila wasn’t a mistake. Here are some mistakes for you as managers: Jimmy McGrory, John Barnes, Liam Brady,Doctor Joe, Tony Mowbray, and others. Tommy Burns won one trophy and no league titles. Deila won two league titles. Get a grip. Move on. Moreover, it is good craic on this site and nobody has been nasty to Devoy 45 or made him piss his breeks or start greetin. I’m looking forward to our next manager. If he is any good, he can motivate our young squad to win at home and in Europe. We have the core of a good, fit young squad. It needs trimmed. From 34 to 25. Deila left some good players who need further work. These last two years haven’t been satisfactory but were far short of disaster.

mike

Devoy, this will come as a suprise to you,so please take a wee dram, but i am ages with you.I do not come on to this site to abuse anyone, merely to have some fun, that is it period.
Now i disagree with you,the team have regressed in both skill,
fitness and ability under the current management team,it is my opinion that a new management team, will instantly lift the squad and support, that is if there are any supporters left,if the board do nought on Res12.
Dellia for me has been a disaster, appointed for his own ends by P.Lawwell,he shares the blame on losing the club millions by missing out on C.L.qualifications.
Supporters have voiced there dismay at the possible appointing of Roy Keane as manager,he is not my choice but would be a much better option than what we have now.

Cortes

Since he is a greater genius than Stein, Guardiola, Sacchi and Ferguson, cannier than Shankly, Del Bosque, Clough and Paisley and tighter wiv the lads from Fleet Street than Venables and ‘Arry, give the job to the only City slicker guaranteed to be a super duper success in every way and bound to light up the positive headlines: Der Warbmeister!
Or have I taken that too far?

They must take the flak too.
I don’t give a fuck if you don’t buy into the manager, what I do give a fuck about is when you pull on that shirt you better give your all.when you turn up at training you better give your all.
When you meet fans on the street you better give your all. When you pick up decent wages, whilst fans are losing jobs and homes you better give your all. Even if you don’t agree with what the manager is saying you better give your all.
Those who haven’t done that can also get tae fuck.

He also believes that we have very decent young players for the manager to take on and expects them to be the main nucleus of us going on to better things.
