Celtic Diary Monday May 9: A Sigh Of Relief, Or a Hint of Sadness ?

What was all the fuss about ?

Celtic clinched five in a row and sit twelve points ahead of nearest challengers Aberdeen.

Like we knew they would, despite one or two hiccoughs along the way.

I watched it on a stream,,,

I wasn’t the only one to think that we might be missing something now that Deila is away, but the game itself showed why, despite all the promise that is there, Deila is man enough to realise, that he isn’t the man to take us to the next level.

Not for the first time this season, an energetic first half performance saw Celtic storm into an early lead, which was added to almost immediately after the break, and the three goal cushion at that point looked like a launching pad for the Dons to take a proper kicking, a psychologocal blow that would break the teams spirirt, and reduce them to a quivering wreck ahead of next seasons games between the two.

But, as so often this term, the hoops let them back into the game, and whilst there was never any danger of not being confirmed champions yesterday, it was the home side who might still have doubts about their abilities.

Ronny came to us with some great ideas, some of which should be carried on by the next guy, but ultimately, it seems he let the tail wag the dog too often, and failed to mark out the distance between himself and the players, and as Brian Clough found out at Leeds all those years ago, some players think they don’t need to be managed…

You just know he’ll be back, in charge of one of our European opponents one day.

Apart from that game, we wish him luck.

Still, on the day, , at least until half time, a good time  was had by all, with the crowd and the players in unison, and everyone thoroughly enjoying themselves. The Sun shone, much to the distress of those who prefer to watch their football from underneath a pile of jackets and scarves, and the no to summer football brigade must surely look at the positives of this , and at least give it a go for a couple of seasons.

The justice for the 96 people said thank you, and there were more than a few damp eyes in the house as Celtic fans paraded around the ground, holding  a banner to express solidarity.

Photo of the solidarity banner at Celtic Park.

From the Liverpool Echo:

Survivor Kenny Derbyshire, of the Hillsborough Justice Campaign, told the ECHO: “It’s very humbling and we feel honoured – it’s a big show of solidarity. Supporters have stood together and we’ve been overwhelmed.

“We wouldn’t have done it without their support. I was at Celtic Park on the day of the memorial game – it was absolutely brilliant. We were made so welcome I will never forget it.

“People came up to us afterwards and offered us somewhere to stay and put us up for the night.”

Louise Agnew added a photo and comment on twitter which summed it all up for many;

Most emotional YNWA for a long time!!! Liverpool fans, you’ve never walked alone!!!

Football supporters together for a righteous cause. Nothing Finer.

Celtic Graves unveiled this plaque at the site of the old Celtic Park, a marvellous move which helps us all remember the history we sing of;

This photo comes from Gary, on twitter.

Celts now look ahead to Perth, and a game against St. Johnstone, before rounding up with a third celebration when the league trophy is prised from Neil Doncasters hands at the weekend.

Leigh Grifiths didn’t get his fortieth goal against the dons, and will not feature against motherwell, so he’ll be all out to secure it on Wednesday, and I wouldn’t bet against him.

However, he’s looking long term at achieving consistency, rather than a one off good season;

“I have had a good season – but the mark of great players isn’t that you do it over one season, it is that you do it consistently. That is where it is hard – doing it again and again, season after season. But that is what I want to do. I want to get myself into this position every season.

“I changed so much But I did it because I had to. The gaffer made it clear to me that if I wanted to play then there were certain things I had to do, so I screwed the head, knuckled down and done them. I try hard not to eat junk. I eat loads of meat and protein and I did that to put on muscle, to be lean and to build strength. My aim, as it was all of the lads at the start of the season, was to get down below 10% body fat and I done that. It took loads of hard work but I feel the best I have ever felt physically and mentally.”

And there was recognition for the manager who inspired him…

He deserves this He has been nothing but positive even when things weren’t going our way. He always tried to look on the bright side and today typifies that. We stuck together as a team and got the result in the end.

Our two biggest successes on the field as title 5 was secured were Griffiths, and Keiran Tierney, both of who played the way and behaved the way they were told.

Maybe one or two others should take note.

Anyway, its done now, and the new man will soon get a chance to impose his personality and methods on the team, and there is something there to build on, and not something to sweep through and change.

We could do with having at least one year that won’t be described as a year of transition.

Speaking of the new man, the Sunday Post ran a story yesterday that it will be Roy Keane-with a £15m transfer budget.

Wish we’d though of that ….

With Celtic securing five in a row, the Daily Record couldn’t wait to congratulate the club, with this back page splash..

No mention of it…

According to Gordon Waddell, one of their intrepid investigators, this is the north eastern regional issue, and not the one intended for the streets of Glasgow.

This is the Glasgow edition, full of positivity and praise…

Tomorrow there will be an eight page pull out to salute the champions.

Are those ribbons on the trophy red ?

Hasn’t anyone told them…or are they in denial ?

They do that a lot, you know.

Over the weekend the report by the Offshore Game went, as they say in cyberspace, viral, and hacks were bombarded with requests for comments, action or even acknowledgement..

Boy, when this story hits the newstands, and it will, just not via the Scottish Press, are they going to look stupid.

Okay, even more stupid.

On their doorsteps are accusations of impropriety at the highest level, and not one of them is interested.

Although Darren Cooney, online editor at the Record, did have the balls to admit he found it interesting, and seemed to get the point..

Found it an interesting read.

It’s not Rangers that interest me but allegations against our governing body. Got to go now

It’s because I love game I want FIFA/UEFA and its national associations to be 100% clean.Maybe they are but refute allegations

The abuse he got for that might give us some idea of why certain papers aren’t going to run with it, which is shameful enough, but it also indicates that the perception of the Resolution 12 issue has become somewhat distorted, and has been subtly turned into a Celtic -rangers issue, which, of course it isn’t.

The first step for any newspaper-or radio/tv station-must surely be to examine the complaint, then examine the evidence, and finally lay it all out for the public to decide.

A little bit of courage may be needed, but surely if they want to sell papers , then at least try to encourage openness and integrity within the game, and if these allegations prove to be wrong, (aye, okay ) then surely the SFA must be forced into comment, as the continued silence merely suggests they are guilty.

Radio Clydes Superscorebored host Howlin hugh keevins asked someone to summarise the issue on twitter.

I replied that if he let me on the show, I would.

He didn’t, unsurprisingly, reply. Having earlier described the issue as a “legal minefield “, the traditional get out clause for those who either haven’t got a clue how to present an argument to the public, or have a dirty great space between their legs where their balls should be, Keevins ignored the issue after that, which mirrors the attitude of the media up there.

Quite how simply discussing allegations and asking someone who represents the body facing  those allegations for comment is a legal minefield is beyond me, and probably everyone else, but from his position under the bed with the lights out, Keevins is clearly waiting until the big bad monster goes away.

Sorry, Hugh, it isn’t going away, but for all of you in the media who are ignoring it might just be a good idea to start drafting a resignation letter, because I think gross negligence of duty is as good a reason as any for finding a p45 in your pay poke.

Even if these allegations are wrong, the public has a right to know what the SFA say about them.

Don’t forget, the Offshore Game report is merely the latest in a long list of accusers, and that list will grow even longer-actually, it already is.

Either the Scottish press do it, or someone else will.

They’ve had four years, now it maybe is time to let proper journalists deal with it….

On a lighter note, here’s todays caption competition, becuas I’ve just noticed what time it is and I have to go…

One legacy Ronny will leave us with is the straightening out of Leigh Griffiths. I had him in the taxi after a Hibs semi, he’d scored the winner but looking at him then I said to myself that’s your lot pal, that’s as good as it gets for you. Well I was wrong but as I’ve said it took Ronny’s methods to turn him around. He’s won the league for us with his goals, without him we would have been fucked.

Good game with plenty of goals and like any good game both teams had their period on top and both played some exciting football, well done Aberdeen for having a go yesterday and the whole season, worthy runners-up. Again well done Ronny and the Bhoys for maintaining our league winning run.

Hail, Hail.

Yesterday was a great day out in the sun,the team played very well for 50 minuets, after that they reverted back to type.
That has been the legacy of Ronnys time at the club, inconsistency, failure in Europe and with strange team selections and tactics, added to the unfathomable addition of multitudes of players. He is not the only one to blame for this but shares the culpability. We all know where to point that finger, but his true legacy is two titles and one trophy and for that he has earned my gratitude.
I will only look forward to next season when Res12 is challenged by the Board, hopefully very soon.

After the battering Michael Duffy got for not applauding Sevco on to the park, I expected at least one sharp eyed ‘journalist’ would have noticed Kenny McLean leave the park yesterday without shaking the hand of anyone from Celtic. Of course perhaps they did notice but as usual it doesn’t become part of their report.

Ronny said that Scott Allan didn’t suit the style he wanted to play. So, he is basically admitting his influence on who was signed was sometimes beyond his control.

Ronny knew the style he wanted to play. Just didn’t work in a league when you are top dog and almost every team parks the bus.
Allan looks like he sits a more direct style of play where the AMC is NOT the player who is holding up the ball.

“It seems scarcely credible that Campbell Ogilvie, President of the Scottish Football Association, could not have been aware of the differences between the two tax schemes, or of any details surrounding the DOS scheme when he gave evidence on behalf of the SPL to the judge-led inquiry. Perhaps he simply forgot, and by chance that forgetfulness saved his longstanding club and employer from being
stripped of many titles. What is not credible is the SFA’s response. When presented with evidence that the inquiry into the breaking of their rules had been misled by their own former President, with the result that a club they regulated may have wrongly held won championships, it cannot be acceptable that the SFA say nothing.
Changes are clearly needed in relation to the handling of conflicts of interest within the governing body, and to the processes of member club accountability for malfeasance. In relation to the specific case at hand, it is difficult to see a continuing role for those involved in the decision-making at the time, and in the subsequent failure to address the demonstrated errors of the inquiry’s findings”. All this and Celtic say: “We wrote to the SFA but they denied any wrong doing so there is nothing we can do.” Absolute Bollocks.

Only the trophy left to get now, let’s hope we enjoy it,it will be a grand weekend, the grandsons communion,on the Saturday, then to paradise on the Sunday.
Let’s keep our feelings away from the day,and give the team a rousing reception. Our title is always one to cherish, for it means a defeat for the establishment. Enjoy, Hail Hail.

To answer the question, I’m looking forward to a new management team and better ( by addition or better management ) team. I’m looking forward to the SFA and Old Rangers being help to their obligations under the law. I’m looking forward to DD spending more money on the team and the facilities. I’m looking forward to the Board being ethical and candid representing Celtic first and last and if that means controversy, so be it. I’m looking forward to the support getting behind the team and the new management. My optimism is unbounded. Good luck to Delia somewhere else. Our focus now should move to CL qualification preparations.

I just cant understand how we have allowed ourselves to be in the position where we have three strikers on loan and have carlton cole on a contract yet he doesnt even seem to be here , i want to know who authorised these moves, its a joke. I begged the question when he was signed… why?
If Deila and Collins thought he was a good idea, they should pay his wages out of their severance package.
Another thing, shows how gullible some Celtic supporters truly are chanting stupid songs for the guy, when they can’t encourage our own younger players in the same way.

Very true Andybhoy, something stinks at Cellic park, some of the signings are just unbelievable, while other better players have left or been pushed out the door because they are refused a wage increase.
This existing signing policy is not fit for purpose.
Time for change.
