Celtic Diary Wednesday April 6: The Mourning After

Oh dear.

Its all gone a bit pear shaped again, hasn’t it ?

Celtic drew 0-0 with Dundee last night and were lucky to get nil. when Colin Kazim Richards comes on to strengthen the attack, the only one left out of the three, count them, strikers bought to help Leigh Griffiths you know that you’re in trouble.

There’s little point in discussing the game, it’s best forgotten.

But its worth remembering that Rogic apart, that was the same team that started against Hearts, and they replicated the distinctly uninspiring first twenty minutes or so against Hearts. This time they forgot to step up a gear.

Why?

Well, put simply, there doesn’t seem to be the hunger for five in a row, maybe its because they feel they haven’t achieved much, given the media angle that its not really a proper league and all that nonsense. To my mind its because the  focus is on ten, in much the same way as the focus was on the Champions League, then the Europa League, then the treble, and finally the double.

If there is a lesson to be learned, its that the club should concentrate on whatever game is being played on that day. Maybe stop the talk of ten in a row, or anything else for that matter. The problem is that there will be no major plaudits handed out for getting to five, whereas if the team make an arse of it…

Now that the dust has settled, Celtic are still five points in front with six games to go. Its not the worst situation to be in, but its going to require a lot more effort to make sure the gap doesn’t get any smaller.

Manager Ronny Deila was philosophical;

We’re still in a good position. We have to make ourselves ready for Motherwell on Saturday and work really hard to get the three points there.

“It’s always disappointing to lose points but there are a lot of games left and we just have to keep on going.

“Of course we have the key in our hands. Everything is up to ourselves.”

Before the game, there weren’t many games left, he had said..and we just needed to keep winning.

“It’s a little bit disappointing,”

“We should have created more clear-cut chances The last pass and the effectiveness when we first had the ball was not good enough.

“Defensively we played quite well. They had a couple of chances but we had a good goalkeeper in Craig.

“We maybe could have got the ball to Patrick more but, having said that, there was one player standing up his a**e all the time. We should have exploited the space he was creating for us, though.

“Football is about emotions and, when you don’t get the victory, the fans get irritated and sad – that’s something I understand.”

What he doesn’t appear to understand is that there is a predicatability to what Celtic will do when on the ball that is easy for other sides to combat. Wingers cut in, midfielders run down blind alleys and no-one will roll their sleeves up and get stuck in if the going gets tough.

For the opposition, all they have to do is make life difficult for Celtic, and the players heads go down.

This is where once upon a time the captain and senior professionals would step up to the plate.

And for whatever reason, that is not happening.

A few weeks ago it appeared that Deila was going to go with the expereinced guys to get the side over the line.

It’s not happening.

It’s easy for supporters to suggest alternatives, and we can all claim to be better managers, and all claim that we’d win the league if we were in charge, but of course, thats not how it happens in the real world.

Right now there is an attitude problem on the park, and maybe it is time to make a few changes, and knock a few out of their comfort zone.

There may be an enforced change as Danish defender Erik Sviatchenko appeared to pull his hamstring, and will have a scan today. Another defender injured. Just what we need for the run in.

What we don’t need, however, is the knee jerk reaction that followed the last poor set of results. There’s still a job to be done.

Elsewhere, you may have noticed that Second Rangers completed their journey to the top league with a win over Dumbarton, and you have to hand it to them, they’ve done well to get this far in such a short space of time.

From the media frenzy accompanying this, and we’ll ignore the obvious dismissal of the facts from some quarters, for now at least, and congratulate them on what they have achieved.

They’ve made the first division a better place..

And with that result what a fucking relief it is to be shot of that mob next season

and will certainly improve the average attendance of the Premier league, if not the average IQ..

They’re not back, of course, they’ve never been here, but look who is…

Worryingly, at least for now, there does seem to be a media campaign -well, an upsurge in the existing campaign-that everything is right in the world again.

Maybe in ten days or so, we can remind them that they are nowhere near the force they think they are. But then again, they’ve proved they can ignore facts for the last four years…

Andy Halliday, one of the key components of the Warburton Wunderteam, may want to lessen his medication..

“We’ve got to be challenging for the title; it’s as simple as that.

“And that’s not me being arrogant or disrespectful to Celtic at all, they have won four in a row and going for another title, but you can’t be at a club [like Rangers] and be happy with second.”

Incredibly , bookmakers Ladbrokes have already installed the Ibrox club as second favourites to win the league.

That’s to win it, not to remain solvent throughout it.

The nonsense will continue, probably right up until after the semi final when reality for them kicks in, but I guess if i were to ut myself in the brogues of one of their supporters, the decent ones , that is, I’d be pleased. football is about fans, i suppose, and if they’re comfortable with the way things are over there, thats up to them. but for me, this is as accurate a way of describing events as any…

Or this..

But you have to wonder at what goes on in some of their minds…

For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice,

Secondly we have learned that no matter how hopeless your situation may be how great the forces of darkness be against you. Trust in the word of God in the Bible and that belief in Jesus and Jesus alone Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved”. Salvation is exclusive. Jesus is the only way

We can draw parallels and comfort from Rangers plight to that of the white robe multitude waiting for the second coming of Christ

Thirdly go out and immerse yourself in a true Protestant church look around not an ecumenical one that is all to willing to walk over the bodies of Calvin,Luther , Zwingli, Tyndale, Knox etc etc and kiss the ring of the Anti-Christ in Rome and Humble yourself in front of our lord God.

And finally what have I learned?

Well I have went from the start of this Journey Agnostic i.e without knowledge to 100% Gnostic of Our Lord Gods Jesus’ love and that you are the way, the truth, and the life and no man cometh unto the Father, but by YOU.

In four years of relentless attacks by those who wished to not just destroy our club but our very country itself on anything deemed to be British and Protestant in Scotland. Their hatred only my reignited and strengthened my love with our lord God and my love for everything that is British and Protestant.

I want to thank the Lord for saving a wretch like me and giving me the strength and courage to take these anti-Protestant anti-British Bheasts on despite intimidation, threats on my life and the life of my family all aided by the help of a few Judases (you know who you are! I hope you enjoyed your 30 pieces of silver)

Now let us pray

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.

Amen

Thats from one of their blogs, perhaps one of their more extreme blogs, but its an indication of their mentality.

It would have been better if that club had been fully removed. By glossing over the facts, the more , er, deluded among them have been allowed to become even more deluded, and thats going to create a major problem before Christmas is here.

Stewrat ( you know what, I’ll leave that typo in there ) Regan famously commented on the unrest that would follow their death. As ever , when we are dealing with a virulent disease, it comes back even worse if you don’t deal with it the first time.

Miserable ?

Yup.

But we can fix that. Can’t we???

I’ve just seen a French world War Two rifle for sale. Looks okay, actually. Never been fired and only dropped once.

Nope, didn’t work.

I was at the doctors yesterday, and he wrote me a prescritpion for dailysex. Showed it to the wife, and she tells me I have dyslexia.

Basque Celt gave me a much needed chuckle yesterday with this one, clinching the caption competition, this  a clear winner.

and today, we have this brooding picture from 1888….

Bandit’s Roost (1888), by Jacob Riis, from “How the Other Half Lives.” Bandit’s Roost, at 59½ Mulberry Street (Mulberry Bend), was the most crime-ridden, dangerous part of all New York City.

Get Ronny out now before we end up winning nothing, totally clueless.

How many games is that now this season we haven’t scored. ?

Griffiths has carried us all season and if he doesn’t score then we are in trouble

Question is what are our board planning on doing ?

No matter what, Ronny has to go, even if we do manage to win the double

He HAS to go

A small club mentality has been brought to a once big club from Ronnie, Lawell will say it was a gamble and hang him out to dry, who do we get? Do we protest and Oust Lawell too? judging by this season’s attendances how many will renew for next season? IMO not too many.

263 midfielders and 2 fit attackers…is he actually the manager?!

this season could end as one of the most disastrous season we have ever had.
we will struggle to win in all our remaining games, we are that bad and you know there is a very good chance we wont have any CL games next season.
i dont think there is 1 fan left who believes in Ronny any more or has faith with this team. i cant ever remember a time when i have feared so much playing against the rest of scottish teams than i do now and that tells you how pish we are

another miserable morning after another miserable result, I have resisted from posting about RD for a few weeks now as the heated debate we were having here was getting to a level of abuse and disrespect which as celtic fans was just not right, but I firmly nailed my colours to the mast long ago with my thoughts on Ronnie, his team selections, tactics, motivation etc which in my opinion where just not good enough, a manager who cannot manage, a team lacking in direction , motivation and desire not helped by a board who clearly are not interested in the wellbeing of there business, our chances of winning this league are a slim as they have been for many years, and a Scottish cup win is by no means a certainty in fact if we continue in this form it is highly unlikely, which means we could end up with nothing from this season, zero , zilch, that is the stark reality we face unless change happens today, if it does not then god help us all

We sign mediocre players lacking in stregth/pace/athleticism e.t.c. from a poor league the SPL yet expect to progress,no pulling on of “the jersey” will make you a player.Go out and sign proper players, players fit for purpose, ffs it,s not rocket science, though it appears to be from RD/PL.

No matter if you howel at the moon Ronnie is the manager and that’s not going to change any time soon. Celtic have no God given right to win anything and if the opposition decides on negative tactics to stop a team playing then that is a difficult thing to counter – though not impossible. We have a choice – we can join with the Ranger’s press and media and disrupt the Celtic team further by calling for Ronnie’s head – thus upsetting things even further – or we can get behind the team and give them the support they need in the run-in to the League deciders. Don’t do the Establishments job for them – get behind the team and for once be ‘faithful through and through’!

I have never been an advocate of seeing someone sacked but our head coach, as that is what Ronny Deila is, has got to be replaced. I have said before there is no leadership from the sidelines nor on the park. We have a group of players who seem to be going on to the field with no game plan. When you watch the guys on the sidelines there is no encouragement from them, just looks of trepidation. By the way the guy who fouled Rogic on Saturday should have got a straight red and it was described as a fifty-fifty challenge on the t.v. Fucking arseshH

torrancetimebomb

buffy,
agree and disagree with much of your post, you are right I don’t think that Ronnie sadly is going anywhere today, that does not mean that he should not, that just means that this board are unwilling to admit that they have made a mistake, the experiment has failed everyone can see that apart from them, as regards negative tactics, I don’t think that to many teams have played that way against us, it is down to our failings if you cannot see that then I don’t know what game you are watching, celtic last night were garbage, not because Dundee were negative we were just garbage AGAIN, thousands of celtic fans got behind the team last night, it did not make a difference, and as your remark about for once faithfull through and through, I was at Dundee last night were you??
I am faithfull but I am not blind

Martin

We really need a bit of consistency now, all the chopping and changing means the midfield in particular can’t get settled and used to playing with each other. I’ve said before and I’ll say again our biggest problem is the size of our squad, we’ve got a ridiculous amount of first team players which means 1) Ronnie will have a lot of unhappy players on his hands because at any given time loads of them won’t be in the team 2) he’s constantly changing the team because he has too many options which leads to lack of consistently. Ronnie has his faults but it’s our transfer strategy that’s the major issue (might be giving them too much credit by calling it a strategy, nothing seems to be planned – just a case of buy every young midfielder that we can). Anyway, whether Ronnie or someone else at the club is to blame for the transfer policy, we are where we are and we need consistency from now until the end of the season to win us the double. So Ronnie needs to just pick a group of about 15 / 16 players and just use them until end of the season. Forget the rest for now.

Although Brown, Commons and Mulgrew have had up and down form all season, they are our most experienced players and I’d have them in the team from this weekend against Motherwell for the rest of the run in including the semi (and hopefully final). I’d basically stick with the following team until the end of the season:

Gordon
Lustig
Sviatchenko (Boyata if he’s done his hamstring)
Mulgrew
KT
Brown
Bitton
Commons
Rogic
Roberts
Griffits

Use Allan and Christie as subs for Commons, Rogic and Roberts when needed.

franko

No matter how we feel about Ronny, and my position on that is VERY clear, we need to get behind the team to help them get over the line in the league & cup. Buffy is spot on, lets not do the media’s job for them and pile more pressure on the players and manager.

All that said, and regardless of whether we win the double or not, Ronny ABSOLUTELY MUST go at the end of the season. If he is in charge next year, we won’t get in the CL or win the SPFL. Guaranteed.

torrance I agree with you, but the board haven’t got rid of him yet despite the shocking performances, so my thinking is they’re not going to get rid of him this season regardless.

Our only hope is they have someone lined up for next season and are waiting til then to make the change. Lots of rumours they offered it to Strachan short term but he said no. Maybe they didn’t want to get rid of Ronny and be left with JC & JK, which would have caused uproar!

Devoy I wouldn’t bet £20 on us to win it m8.
The realisation for me that Ronnie didn’t have it,was last season, especially in the Europa League. We needed 1 win out of 2 to qualify.
We didn’t get it,we had to rely on other teams bailing us out.
Malmo this season should have been it for Ronnie It has been disgraceful the way we capitulate in matches.
This team has no courage.and more talented players on the bench than he starts with.
They can now rest to the semi.
We should not be in this position.

franko,
you may be correct about the JC,JK, thing but there is a man there right now who would do the job for nothing until the end of the season, he knows the team, he knows the players, he knows how to win leagues, I stress this should be short term fix but that Is all we need right now, get lenny in today.
next season, sell half the midfielders and get in a decent manager, someone with experience who can take us forward

franko

Trying to be pragmatic and if the board were gonna do that, they would’ve done it a month ago (at least). Bottom line is, whether we like it or not (and I certainly don’t), we are stuck with Ronny until the end of the season. I’m not happy about it, he should’ve been given his jotters ages ago but he wasn’t and isn’t going to be. We need to find a way to win this league and cup with what we have, and getting on the backs of the players and manager won’t help.

Next season is a different matter, the club will be losing a huge number of ST holders if changes are not made.

This figure includes the semi/ final of the cup, providing Craig Thomson does not officiate in anymore of our matches, this coaching team have no motivation, passion in which to get the best out of the team, no plan A, never mind B, I will support the team the 100% but it should be a two way street and I am not witnessing that on the park for a long time now, there is unrest there, clear the air and get the 8 games won…Hail, Hail….and then install a proper management team worthy of Celtic Football Club, forever in my heart….

“Getting behind the team” every true Celtic fan is behind the team, none more so when away from home but unfortunately things are that bad that even if there was 60,000 at Parkhead every home game it wouldn’t make a blind bit of difference tae the utter pish that’d being displayed on the park, that’s down tae the management tae have the team primed and motivated for every single game, but because we have a totally inept management team who are so far out of there depth then the knock on effect is what we have witnessed ALL season, no understanding, no commitment, no desire, no tactics, no self believe, There was always going to be a spell where Griffiths would have a dry patch and it’s been so clear tae see that when he does we suffer, don’t kid ourselves that we played well against Hearts on Saturday, first half was a get out of jail free card and only the individual brilliance of Roberts won us it and bad some refs decisions, against Killy was exactly the same if not even luckier still, we have the makings of a really good team but never will it make it anywhere near it’s potential under this ridiculous manager.Best start praying now because with a few injury worries i honestly believe Aberdeen have enough tae turn us over at home and we’re definitely capable of dropping more points,to lose this league this year and in the fashion we’ve tried to defend this title would be a total disaster and I fear the knock on effect as far as season tickets ect could be felt for a few years to come..KTF

Difference between last night and Saturday (other than actually taking some of the chances made) was that Hertz came out to play, Dundee tried to be more compact without the ball.
We reverted to type and tried to play through it, slowly.
We don’t have the players for it, Tiki Taka becomes tippy tappy pass the buck.

get the defence turned, ball to line and cut it back to one of the 1000 midfielders we have to run onto while Griffiths sniffs out anything that falls his way.

Either that or score from one of the multitude of corners.

Devoy45

I wonder if we insult our manager and team enough they will actually get angry enough to take it out on their opponents? Here goes: you will lose to Motherwell, lose to Sevco and lose the title to Aberdeen because you don’t care enough about the fans or our history. your constant support of a dud manager does not go un noticed, and when the shit hits the fan you will be made to look rather silly…

you have lloked for every excuse under the sun other than the manager is not the correct one for our club… with our budget and size of swaud we should have been champions a month ago… this is not the epl, this is the scottish premier league, this season has been an joke… it could get alot worse… if we fail to beat sevco in the cup we are bankrolling there survival as they will get access to europe, the sfa will make sure of that

i see only one outcome and no evidence whatsover of things changing

even forgeting about how poor our euro campaign was lets look at some of ur results

ross county, aberdeen twice, killie twice, dundee twice, hamilton, motherwell

the list goes on and on

where is the grand plan? the progression? the free flowing high pressing attacking football? we have seen this on a handul of occasions

we are the worst weve been since mogga

the evidence is there for all to see, 9/10 fans want this clown out, same as everyone leaving dens last night

a manager who fails to motivate a team on a regualar basis

a man who oversees under 30k attendances at his club

who does not learn from previous mistakes

who never picks the correct team, signs players and wastes them in the reserves

splits the dressing room due to poor man management

wastes scotlands best player in kris commons and drops him as he enjoys ketchup with his fries

shall i go on?

winning 4 tournaments in 2 dud countries does not make him a good manager, you know your backed into a corner and you know youve got it wrong

Charlie, do you believe Ronny is the man to take us forward next season and beyond?

Charlie Saiz

That would depend on the Board.
Under the current signing policy the answer to that would be no.
Kind of hard to build anything sustainable if you keep removing the foundations every 12 months.

Same responses from the same people. Fuck mke, does that not tell you something, or is your head still jammed up the clueless ones backside that you really are so short sighted?
It has not been about the bad results, its been about the dire, turgid shite thats been served up week in week out.

piss poor tactics by a guy clueless to what is going on in the field of play.
The luckiest guy ever to get league title winner on his cv.
6 games left or not i would still remove him.
If we don’t the unthinkable is going to happen.
One striker we have, the next best is put out on loan to hibs.Time to call him back and get him into the team.

Managing a club is all about getting that little bit more out of your players, than they think they have.
Spotting weakness in your opponents style of play and passing that on to your players.
Changing small things during a game which you see happening. Have we ever got this off Ronnie.
Its all like for like subs, bitton off Rogic on
Lustig off effe on,MacKay Stevens off Roberts on etc etc.Nothing in a game that we needed changing has he done it.
He is hopeless.

Paul Hartley set up his team at Celtic Park for a 0-0. He did the same last night why didn’t the Celtic management team have a Plan B to counteract this, they knew what was coming.Time for Ronnie and his backroom team to go.

We are so predictable under the clueless one and the fact a team sets up to defend against us and can have more shots on target than us, speaks volumes of this nonentity.

Can we all agree we’re done with Ronnie, and want some one else in place next season, but will bite our lips unitl the end of the season see how the league and the cup goes?

Its too late in the season to make a change and too late for Ronnie to turn around the opinion of the majority so we’re stuck together in a lovelss marriage until the season is over, when we can get out and start dating and having fun again.

Its time for fans to drag the team over the line by backing them and then drag the board by the b*lls to get them to understand that fans have seen enough of Ronnies revloution and dont want it any more

Do these Celtic players care about their own professional performance?

Charlie what sort of defence for Ronny is ” injuries and poor for of key men” utter drivel, we have the biggest budget and biggest squad in Scotland by a country mile, all other teams have injuries and dips in form of key players yet still take us apart with half the resources, we have 17 midfielders alone that should easily be capable of covering any injuries or drop in form, apart from young Tierney the whole team seams to have had a whole season of poor for. Calling Ronny oot for what he is and that’s a complete dud doesn’t make us bad supporters it shows that were not gullible idiots that will stand back and accept mediocre or 2nd best just because Lawell wants us tae. Take your green tinted glasses off before its to late..KTF

Cant stay away!

My feeling is that if we win the league this year its despite rather than because of Delia

I ve seen too many performances this season where it looks like the players are deliberately not playing for the manager (terrible thing to say I know) for it to be coincidence, and he has not brought any tactical flexibility to bear to turn draws into wins, him being the e manager has hampered rather than hindred us given how utterly predicatable we are for opposition teams – with the budgetary advantage we have over every other team winning the league should really be a formality and requires no managerial genius, which frankly is just as well, as we dont have any

A wee pediction, we will have a new manager next year and will start to hear inside stories of the reality of the Ronnie regime, and it wont be pretty.

You seem to think we’ll beat new arrangers easily, playing like this. Aye right. We couldn’t get past a determined but poor Dundee. Our play is so predictable. We have no front man so the idea is to pass them to death in our own half then find the killer pass, about as deadly as a dead parrot. Ronnie has stifled what talent and individuality our players have to a shite and predictable system. I’m not convinced we’ll win this league though I truly hope so. The key game is against Aberdeen and we cannot afford to put any more pressure on ourselves.

I have never heard the support so fractured as now,it is hard to witness but we know the reason for that. All we want is a team trying to play with energy and passion, with coaches who know the game and all its elements. We do not have that and its been like this since Leagia, when all our dreams died.
We see it,the Board must see it,everyone who knows fitba can see it,but they wont do anything until next season, that unfortunately is the likelihood.Their is no quick fix, would players ignored all season wish to fight for this Management Team? no they would not and who could blame them, our only hope is to support the team as best we can and keep our heads until seasons end.
Fingers crossed,H.H.

Tom, i am an optimistic person, with the emphesis on the tic bit,but i am not stupid.I like many of the support will be waiting to see what happens next year.I am not hoping for much just a management team that knows what its doing, with the number of players we have i would imagine that some could be sold to provide a new team with some funds to provide better quality in 1/2 players to give us the oppertunity to try to get into the C.L.qualifiers,thats all,it was done previously and could be done again.

‘Aw naw – the ba’s definitely on the slates noo’.

Then again – it could have been very much worse; we could have lost 5-1 as we did at Dens Park in April 1980, a result which opened the door for Aberdeen to win the league that year.
