Celtic Diary Friday December 18: Celtic To Sue Fans ?

Someones been letting off flares again, and it’s really starting to annoy the club. whilst I’m not a fan of pyrotechnics, as fire has a horribly indiscriminatory way of claiming its victims, and leaves a usually permanent scar, legal action ?

A club statement said;

As part of our ongoing investigation into the recent match against Fenerbahce in Istanbul and the use of flares within the stadium, Celtic today confirmed that it has indefinitely suspended two individuals from attending all Celtic matches, home and away.

“There have been calls from many for Celtic to raise a civil action in relation to recovering any fines imposed and this is something which the club will consider.

“Celtic has repeatedly stated its strong opposition to the use of flares but regrettably again, a very small number of individuals have damaged the club they claim to support, resulting in a further UEFA charge.

“Celtic supporters travel in their thousands to European matches and the club is always grateful and proud to have such a magnificent following from fans who have earned such a wonderful reputation.

“However, we cannot allow the club and our supporters to be damaged reputationally or financially any more, by a handful of individuals.

“While we await UEFA’s determination, we have been inundated with support from Celtic fans who want an end to this activity and, like the club, do not want those responsible associated with Celtic in any way.”

Just to clarify, the bit in bold refers to the fans, and not , despite what you may think at first glance, the board. Though it might be worth remembering that paragraph. you never know when we might need it.

By all means, fine them, or ban them. They deserve either.

But a civil action, come one.

Grow up.

However, whilst we’ve got our litigious heads on, maybe that phone call to the lawyers shouldn’t be wasted.

Heres an idea.

The statement mentions financial damage by a handful of individuals…

Can you think of any other individuals who may have damaged the club financially through their actions, or even inaction ?

So, how about the board grow a pair of balls and threaten those who have cost the club millions in lost revenue ? ( No, not Ronny )

The SFA, the SPFL, the directors of Rangers FC, (deceased )

On behalf of not only Celtic supporters, but supporters of other clubs.

We all paid into a fraudulent set up.

And none of us, club or supporter, got the level playing field that we thought we were getting. Someone was cheating, someone was covering up for them, and now its all out in the open, they all want us to move on and forget about it.

If you are going to ring the lawyers, and spend money on legal action, then do aim it at the right people, for the right reasons.

Otherwise, i’ll ring my lawyer, and ask him to sue you for the cost of tickets and travel to Glasgow since 1998, as clearly the club was complicit in the scam that was Scottish football, as they don’t seem to want to do anything about the loss of millions and the damage done to the reputation of the clubs and the game as a whole.

Hey, and my lawyer is good…

Time to stop arsing about Celtic, and start protecting the club from the real bad guys…

Though , if we can talk Neil Doncaster and Stewart Regan into chucking a couple of flares, we might get some action..

The transfer window is just around the corner, and the list of players set to join Martin Odegaard at Celtic grows ever longer.

Having already named everyone they can think of, the Scotsman has now gone full circle and started repeating the ones they named last year; Well, they are repating what the Record said last year, in their Rumour mill, which is nowhere near as accurate or funny as the original Rumour mill.

CELTIC could revive their interest in Alfred Finnbogason, with the Icelandic striker struggling to make an impression at Real Sociedad and loan side Olympiacos, who look set to send him back to the Basque Country.

The 26-year-old has managed just four goals in 27 appearances for Sociedad, and just two in 11 for the Greek outfit.

But the self-confessed Hibs fan could pitch up at Celtic if the Hoops decide to reignite their interest, with Sociedad believed to be weighing up another loan move or a cheap sale of Finnbogason. (Daily Record)

Well, he might, but as with most Celtic signings, the press will not know before the rest of us.

And anyway, we won’t need anyone else, as manager Ronny Deila hasn’t given up on Anthony Stokes yet…

“Anthony has to improve the things I have been telling him for one year and if that happens then he is available.

“I will never give up – I know his qualities. I want to make the best out of him and I will never stop putting the demands on him, what he needs to get the best out of him.

“He comes back with a positive mind and is humble but again it is about performances. It is about showing with consistency things have changed. He has apologised. Hopefully now he will make the changes to get him in the right frame of mind to get the best out him.

Stokes to respond to Ronny’s encouragement ?

We sought out a few people who know the errant Irishman, in one of his , er, places of rest;

Ronny , leave it. He’s not interested any more.

Meanwhile, theres another possible problem for Deila. It appears Celtic cannot get in touch with Dave Baldwin, the agent who represents James Forrest, and the boss wants to talk about a new deal.

Agents , of course, usually want to talk about deals all the time, so this is a bit odd…if it’s true, that is.

Its from  Alan Patullo, in the Scotsman, who, in typically ” hey! heres a bad news celtic story,” says..

Ronny Deila is being frustrated in his desire to offer James Forrest a new contract for the unusual reason that Celtic cannot seem to make contact with the player’s elusive agent.

The Celtic manager claims Dave Baldwin, Forrest’s agent, is proving hard to pin down. But Deila hopes he might appear for contract talks in the coming days “like Santa”.

Ronny , quoted in the piece, said;

We have tried to get hold of his agent so you can write that when he has time, he can come in and discuss an offer,”

“We have tried for a while so hopefully he will come – like Santa. Maybe he has a lot to do. I don’t know how many players he has. It doesn’t concern me but hopefully we will get contact now and start talking.”

So, we’ve rang him and he wasn’t in.

Or someone has. Or hasn’t.

Celtic are in talks with Leigh Griffiths over an extension, after Griffiths, according to local rags in Norfolk, rejected the chance to go to Norwich, and thus condemning Gary hooper to more misery, as there was mention Hooper could be used as a makeweight in the deal, and note, it was Hooper making up the deal here, and not the other way round.

Right, busy day today, the Lennon CSC are meeting up for a pre christmas drink, and I’ve a lot to do before then.

Heres a picture from the past which shows how things have changed.

Where is it, and when was it ?

Embedded image permalink

We’ve also had a wee bit more trouble with the puppy. Wednesday night we put up all the decorations, with it being nearly christmas, and lo and behold  the wee shite went and ate  all the christmas lights.

So we had to take her to the vet (again) and to be fair, he was great. When he went all gooey and told the pup she was going to be fine, you should have seen her wee face light up.

Haven’t time to read full post but your take on litigation is absolutely brilliant. Time for the SFA/SPFL and everyone else involved in lying, cheating, cover-ups, scheming in private etc. to be confronted with the laws of Justice.
If this includes members of our board, so be it.
Crime is crime regardless. No sides, punishment for all involved and the media should be high on there too.
All of it. Radio, TV, papers. The lot.

Totally agree with the club on the question of flares,,,(not on other policies, though) 1) I was a professional mariner trained in the use of flares,,,my grand kids and sons go to Celtic games home and away…any one who lets off a flare indiscriminately is risking causing serious injury to fellow fans….we know this…it’s been spoken about often enough …convenors of supporters clubs should be re affirming the message ,,,no flares…squibs/fireworks are bad enough,,,,flares are potentially fatal !! Surely sueing own fans is a bridge to far? People shouldnt bring flares. But instead of trying to catch people who want to fire up the crowd (not the best choice of worlds but still), why don’t they set up initiatives to elevate the atmosphere themselves? That’s what its all about, restoring fortress parkhead

Is that the 1937 Scottish cup final v Aberdeen at Hampden park.
( only it doesn’t look like Aberdeen)

Still a record attendance for a domestic cup final I believe.

I don’t know what to make of this flare carry on except I want our fans ( and fans of other clubs) to be safe.
Something has to be done, the club are getting bad press now and I don’t like that.
I don’t want fans to be angels, but come on lads, we have spent years building our reputation up in Europe, don’t give our knockers ammunition.

As for Anthony Stokes future with the club, it is poignant that Mr.McNeill has his statue unveiled tomorrow, so I will pick a Billy Mcneill saying for the Stokes issue ” It is important Celtic sign players who have a feeling for the club ”
I would rather have a fully focused, fully fit Anthony Stokes in the side than an Amido Balde.

Go for it Stokesy, train with Griffiths, head down and bust a gut for us and yourself!

Still cany see a flare going off being worse than going to a foreign city with yhe intent to maim and enacting on that intent by going into glasgow pubs and beating the shit out of them . Give ajax ten times the punishmeny for a crime thats tenfold worse in nature than a flare

Yep, your’e right there, but this is not an isolated incident, it just keeps happening and we are now at the mercy of UEFA.
Is the club just going to accept the actions of a few pyromaniacs?
I would throw the book at them myself and I have no problem with whatever remedy the club feel is suitable to put an end to this nonsense.

Celtic are correct in taking action against the tiny no of idiots who besmirtch our hard won good reputation.
The club in my opinion fails miserably in keeping the supporters informed on a whole lot of issues.

Did they take any action whatsoever in contacting ajax regarding there fans thuggish behaviour or the Dutch Police in Amsterdam?
Could we not be informed if they are seeking to address the EBT scandel,or against the complicit S.F.A.They are supposed to have a P.R.department.They are quick to ask for merchandise cash.
It is vital that they keep the supporters informed otherwise why bother.

P.S. bgbhoy: take a day off mate, you’re entitled to your opinion on Deila, but I think most of us on here could do without seeing it on every post! Hampden, in the leaner years. 1950’s.
Flares?Like many on the site I have children and grandchildren going to matches and I’d prefer them not to be blinded by some witless feckers who disgrace our team. However, other types of arseholes should also be punished, especially rich cheating ones with power and no principles. How has David Murray escaped? Stokes can be a good striker at times and I’d like to see him playing more for us. Griffiths? I’ve supported him even when he wasn’t playing.Tomorrow, Motherwell. Our best 11.Gordon/Lustig/Boyata/Simunovic/Tierney
Bitton/Allan
Forrest/McGregor/Commons
Griffiths
subs: Janko/Ambrose/Izzy/Rogic/Bailly/Stokes/Ciftci. Stokes to play wide left.Rogic could also start somewhere.I think Deila now has some real competition for starting places.

Finnbogason would do a job at Celtic no danger he was fairly successful at Heeenveen playing in the same System.
His move to Spain has not worked out first injuries then a change of Management caused him issues I think.

There are 2 modes of the formation we are playing there is the one born from S. America where it evolved from a completely different formation from the one in Europe. That is why watching Latina teams play our formation is completely different from watching N. European teams play it. Even Alex Ferguson had a role in the evolution of this tactic by utilizing Giggs the way he did while playing counter attacking football. This tactic was born from the counter attack and pressing high up the park with a high defensive line takes the song out of it.

What I find hilarious is all these people that complain about 1 up-front AND they complain about our wife players being played out of position. You know what happens when you take a wide right footed player, play him on the left and tell him to cut in more? He becomes an Inside Forward and his weak foot improves for crosses! So essentially Monti when our manager plays our wide players on the opposite side of the field to their weaker foot he has just added a striker. So in other words when Commons plays on the right and Armstrong plays on the left we are playing with 2 inside forwards thus 1 striker and 2 inside forwards. Um that is pretty much 3 up front. Furthermore if he drops a natural goalscorer into the #10 role that guy is classed as a shadow striker (4 up front) so for goodness sake stop harping on about an archaic 1990s form of Football. The reason the tactic isn’t working as pretty as Germany vs Brazil is because teams mob the edge of the 6yd box limiting space for our inside forwards to cut into before shooting. Which means the actual issue with our tactic is we press too high, our defensive line, sits too high and as a result of attacking players do not get the space they should to score 7 goals a game. However, if you study some of our matches against European competition this season we tried to soak up more pressure in the first 20-25 minutes of every game before switching to the high press. I am convinced that this season was an accepted throw away season in Europe.

I think all our midfielders have been running into dead ends because the system doesnt warrant two forwards running into space for timely through balls. Forrest is often running into othrr guys space to get something happening anf invariably shooting wildly as the defenders have the measure of any attempted attacks. Im talking europe here. What site are you referring to andy, what channel?
Dont care how Grif talks as long as he keeps banging in the goals.
I agree with your tactical summery above,we were caught out often on the counter, wing backs to far up the pitch with the defensive midfielders to slow or badly positioned to stop the opposition. The question i have is why could they not adjust for that, that mistake cost us dear.

I like Leigh Griffiths, but he needs to stop saying, “You know,” every 2 words.

The fellas with the flares deserve all that is coming to them. Stadium fires are deadly serious in every way you can imagine. They have been told more than once and we have been fined money we could have spent elsewhere. I also agree that showing more gumption and making sure SFA/SPFL and whatever incarnation of Johnny Hun be brought to proper account for their shady, dodgy deals and cheating. Any colussion with cheating should meet with equally tough Celtic board action
