Celtic Diary Wednesday October 8: Things Could Be Worse….

It seems, amongst the support, at any rate, the jury is out on manager Ronny Deila. Some think he should be given time, others don’t think he has done anything to deserve it. However, the MSM can smell blood, and since there is no domestic football due to the international break, they will be wheeling out anyone and everyone with an opinion.

Well, as long as that opinion is the same as theirs. Its going to be open season on the Norwegian.

Which is why the diary is going to leave it until the next game to make further comment on his abilities. As supporters, we have a right to express our opinion, but former players and journalists , in my opinion, don’t.

They get paid for their thoughts, which renders them invalid. After all, if their ramblings sell papers, they will be asked to repeat themselves, and its easy for them to toe the line, sometimes, granted, without knowing they are doing it.

So, whilst Chris Sutton hints at cracks in the relationship between manager and players, and John Hartson rambles on about whatever it is he hasn’t seen this time, but feels it neccessary to repeat it as fact, we’ll leave them to one side for a while, and concentrate on the words of those at the club.

Stefan Johansen, for instance;

“We all stand together and the players are fully behind him.

“So are the supporters, but if the press and some fans have different opinions, then that is allowed too.

“That’s football. We have experienced players who have seen this before. There are no problems.

“He’s been criticised but there is criticism everywhere in football. None of us has any problem with that. It’s a results-orientated club with a lot of pressure.

“We’ve had some good weeks too and if we’d beaten Hamilton we wouldn’t have had these issues. But we just have to deal with it.

“It’s not the crisis everyone is making out. We should have won against Hamilton – we had 15 chances – but it was just one of those days when the ball wouldn’t go in. Then they score one goal and it becomes a crisis.

“It looks far worse from the outside than it really is.

“We’ve made a good start in the Europa League and if we win our game in hand in the league we are only three points behind.”

He’s not panicking-maybe because he hasn’t quite realised the importance of not being in sixth place to the support, but in times of crisis, a cool head is required, so we’ll have to wait and see.

 Elsehwere, a row has blown up over the comments made in the match programme between Livingston and Second Rangers last week. Scotlands newest club have taken exception to being referred to as, er, Scotlands newest club;

Heres what was in the programme;

Embedded image permalink

 Livingston Chairman Gordon MacDougall initially defended the authors stance;

“We are fortunate to have a small, but devoted group of people who produce our match programme here at Livingston,

“Those people spend hours of unpaid time preparing their copy and scoring points in print is not part of our club’s agenda.

“They are all fans of this club who have followed our own chequered history, often critically, as it has ironically followed a similar path to that of Rangers in recent years.”

“I can only offer my sincere apologies to any fans who have been offended by what was written as there was no intention to offend anyone.

“It did place a bit of a dampener on what had been a really enjoyable afternoon for myself personally as it had been a pleasure being able to help the many Rangers fans who had ticketing problems etc, including finding seats for a blind supporter and those who had not received their postal delivery.

“The game was also played in great spirit by all concerned. As a true football fan who has paid my way through the turnstiles for countless years before entering the boardroom, I fully understand the emotion involved for their fans in the current Rangers situation.”

 Then things got ugly, when Sevco cheerleader Matt Lindsay reported on the story for the Evening Times;

Rangers demand apology over Livi programme article

RANGERS today received an apology from Livingston over what the Ibrox club described as “outrageous and unacceptable” content in their match programme.

The usual standard of dross from Lindsay in the headline and opener. Have they demanded an apology, or have they received one ?

Read on….

The Ibrox club will also report their SPFL Championship rivals to the governing body over the “erroneous material”.

Presumably the bit where he describes them as a “football club ” and not a ” vehicle for asset strippers to line their own pockets at supporters expense “

Gers fans were incensed at two articles which appeared in the programme, for which Livi chief Gordon McDougall has now apologised.

 Not as incensed as the bold Matt, it seems. He’s a tad miffed himself;

One story referred to “the club then known as Rangers” playing a game against Hibs three years ago. It went on to state “a brand new club” had been established after the old parent company was liquidated back in 2012.

Er, it was, it was and it was the club that was liquidated, not the parent company. It says so in the court papers. In fact, it said it in all sorts of papers

rip rangers

Including the Evening times, on the 14th of June, 2012;

Ano

140 years of Rangers liquidated … after just 8 minutes of meeting

RANGERS were today finally liquidated – inside just eight minutes…

ther story in the Livingston programme mentioned the West Lothian club’s record against the “now-defunct outfit” and “the newly-formed Rangers”.

Perhaps they got it from the Evening Times;

The CVA proposal tabled to rescue the stricken football club has been formally rejected by creditors at a quickfire 10am meeting at Ibrox Stadium.

The Glasgow club will now be reformed as a ‘newco’ inside the next 24 hours and that will be called The Rangers Football Club.

Just 30 of the creditors owed money by the troubled Ibrox club attended in person or were represented by lawyers acting on their behalf, with others sending proxy votes

The result of the meeting was, of course, already a fait accompli given that major creditor, Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs, confirmed on Tuesday that it would reject the £8.5million Company Voluntary Agreement package tabled by Charles Green, the man who is attempting to take over the club which has been in administration since February 14, forcing liquidation of the existing plc.

Ally McCoist sat at the back of the room and he wore the look of a broken man as he realised his days at the helm of the Ibrox side were numbered.

However, High Court judge Lord Nimmo Smith ruled that Rangers was a “recognisable entity which continued in existence notwithstanding the change in ownership” two years ago.

Which, of course, will interest Hector when they try to dodge paying any tax owed by oldco.

Livingston officials are believed to be horrified by the comments that appeared in the official publication which is edited by supporter Andy Crawford.

No, they weren’t. See above.

However, Rangers still want their rivals, who they defeated 1-0 at the weekend, to apologise over the offence caused to the 54-times Scottish champions.

I thought you said they had apologised ?

A club statement read: “The content written about the football club and our players was outrageous and entirely unacceptable.

“We will be raising the issue with the SPFL and seeking an apology from Livingston FC, who had a duty to prevent such erroneous material from appearing in their programme.”

Livingston should tell them to sue if they are not happy. That would shut them up.

Meanwhile, Rangers are set to escape any sanction from the SPFL over the crowd trouble that flared in the stands and outside the stadium in Livingston on Saturday.

However, the League One champions are set to issue anyone who is convicted following the unrest at the weekend with banning orders from their matches.

It was Chelsea fans. We know.

There were violent scuffles between Gers fans and police and stewards in one section of the stands during the first half of the second-tier game.

Livingston safety officer Alan Scott confirmed: “There were five people arrested. The stewards and police assisted each other in dealing with the matter and no police or stewards were injured.”

And after the match mounted police reportedly had to break up an altercation between Rangers and Livingston supporters in the car park of nearby supermarket Lidl.

The incidents are set to be mentioned in the official report to the SPFL by match delegate Alan Dick that should arrive at the Hampden offices of the governing body tomorrow.

Where they will imediately placed in the file…..for future discussion, at the appropriate juncture, in the fullness of time etc.

However, Rangers are confident their preparations for the match were professional and in accordance with strict guidelines laid down by the SPFL. They should, therefore, escape any official censure.

After the match, Rangers manager Ally McCoist commented: “I did see it and it looked pretty unsavoury, but until I get a report on it I would be loath to comment other than to say we can do without incidents like that.”

What he means is he is saying nothing until someone tells him what to say.

Matt Lindsay, of the Evening Times. He’s a reporter.

And I’m a small cottage on the coast, with tremendous sea views.

Sorry to spend so much time on that lot again, but its been a while, and it appears they are in bother again.

 Never mind, look who’s back;

from Paulie Walnuts on twitter…

Embedded image permalink

Thats back at Ibrox, not the Evening Times, although he seems well qualified for either.

This is the response to the news that Mike Ashley, currently making an arse of things at Newcastle, wants to call an EGM to oust Graham Wallace and Phillip Nash, two financial experts-stop sniggering-so he can presumably make an arse of things in Glasgow as well.

 Feel better now ?

Look, things will be alright in the long run. We hear Ronny is already implementing a new plan to better defend set pieces..

Well if the MSM are going to be having a field day it will be down to knee jerk reaction on sites like this where the panic button is pressed after 8 League Games.

Pathetic.

I will be back on after January myself by that time hopefully we will know exactly where we are regarding the squad and performance levels.

Have a nice whinge in the meantime.

Charlie Saiz,
From the start of the season results wise, there is enough evidence on show to make a judgement on where we are heading as a team.
Embarrassing results against Legia and Maribor were bad enough, devastating in terms of the Maribor game at home.
Domestically, we have lost to Inverness and Hamilton and should have lost to Dundee at Dens, Motherwell should have gone 2 up at Parkhead!
He has dropped our best player ( Commons) and played his pal who can’t get a game for Cardiff, Berget?
He, Deila is playing one striker up front against domestic opposition, that player being a loan signing Guidetti, meanwhile a signed, contracted player Scepovic is kept on the bench as we struggle to break down last season’s champions league winners Hamilton!

Knee jerk?
I don’t think so friendo!

I am going to give him my full support, until such times……
No more Ronny debate from me.

I agree with Stefan Johansen, that is all.

Will leave the ronnie talk at that for today. Now for some light relief:

Had to laugh at this extract on Rangers share price forum…talk about Denial being strongest drug in the world

Where as the other half of the (West of Scotland)equation have a massive overdraft to service and lack ambition in every shape and form as can be seen by all including the dwindling support with recent results on the pitch . sadly one business is in decline whilst the other RFC has good investors with no lack of funds . who see the potential in the future otherwise why would they invest… The price of this share at the moment would appear to be a bargain compared to the issue price and with a worldwide fan base which Mike ashley is well aware of things cannot fail to get even better for all genuine shareholders

Why should ex players not be allowed to criticise our manager, especially when it,s more than justified,it,s obvious from the attendance that the vast majority of fans have had enough. It,s time for major changes in the board ownership and management of the club,we made 11 million profit sold a player for 10 million, and spend a pittance ,just where is the rest going to is it just being sent to the tax man or the CEO,S bonus,
We bring in a useless manager who thinks losing to Hamilton is us improving,I don,t remember 15 chances and the level of play was awful, that is why the team were booed of and the useless git of a manager ran up the tunnel quicker than any celtic player managed all day

fair enough not wanting to futher comment on Themanagers position….but i’ll add this……at a time when the management should have been circling the wagons and gathering his players to galvanise his thought on the game and what he wants them to do…..they”ve scattered to the four corners of the globe to represent their countries…..and will return a day or two before we face ross county in Dingwall at 12.45………not our managers fault…..but nice preperation for a banana skin of a match…….my doubts about our manager grow on a weekly basis as my faith in him shrinks……his one saving grace…..there is no ideal candidate to replace him.

One thing the SMSM has never lacked are ex-Celtic players willing to put the boot into the club. And there’s never been a lack of Celtic fans willing to listen to them. Fair enough, if you agree with them that’s fine, I just find it interesting that the SMSM can’t find any ex players who are supportive of Delia. Is that because they can’t find a single one or is that because they work to an agenda and only hire people who are willing to put the boot into Celtic?

If you want to really understand the morales of the people we’re dealing with in the SMSM then look no further than the Sevco article above, the “journalist” knows exactly what is likely to happen to the Livi fan that he personally names for writing the programme. And it’s a warning shot to others who might want to publicly state the truth. As far as I’m concerned these are the types of characters that Sutton and Hartson are in bed with now and I certainly won’t be spending any of my money to read their “unbiased opinion” on Celtic.

Spot on re naming the programme writer. There’s really no need for that at all in the article and its surely just in there to encourage some of the delightfully reasonable sevconians to personally pass on their opinions. Looks like Matt Lyndsay has learnt that he doesnt need to wait on Super Allys war cry of demanding to know names before publishing them any more.

I highly doubt that they have actually raised any form of concern with the SFA / SPFL / whatever the governing body is called these days, as they would be made to look rather foolish if they did.

Martin

PS I was at Dens Park for the “game of shame” – the one where Hartson had a go in his weekly column at Celtic fans for rioting. The only problem was, the trouble was wildly exaggerated and anyone who was there (as Hartson claimed to be) would have known that. A lot of Celtic fans back then called him out on it…..would be interesting to know if some of those fans now see Hartson as an honest broker when he criticises Delia.

The way this season is going, I’ve decided to simply laugh at everything Celtic related.
I really can’t be arsed arguing with fellow Celtic fans over the merits of Neil Lennon and Ronny Deila. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and being shouted down when offering mine is a tiresome bore.

So, fuck it. Best to accentuate the positive and laugh it off, ’tis only fitba after all.
I am finding the views of former Celtic players in the media fun to read. For years ex players have offered opinions on the then state of Celtic, our current assistant manager had some very forthright views on our current captain a few years ago, so rather than get all frothy over the opinions of guys I enjoyed watching playing for Celtic (Sutton, Hartson etc) I’ll take the humour from it. And why not?
Ronny Deila, whether he is the Norwegian Rinus Michels or the Nordic Tony Mowbray, does at least provide some mirth by contradicting himself whilst he struggles to manage my team. Whether I support him or not, his position will never change or be reinforced thanks to me. So if I can’t enjoy watching his work with my team, I might as well laugh at it.
Taking things like a double European exit/humiliation, a UEFA reprieve, a piss poor team, an out of his depth manager, lots of Celtic fans shouting their fellow brothers down and dire football seriously will only blind you to the real problems in life.

We’re Celtic fans.
Our team is gash, our manager’s flailing aimlessly.
Ach, it’s only football.

Devoy45

Our team is NOT gash, but our manager IS flailing…Our team is not in transition. It is the same team that dominated the league last year. Trouble is, Deila IS in transition: from one country to another, one level to another, one style of playing to another, one level of fitness to another. Why should our team and fans (NOT in transition) pay the penalty for a manager who IS in transition?
Deila has to figure out a way to win domestically while improving our fitness to compete in Europe. It has become really simple: if we don’t win in Dingwall, Deila should go because if our team keeps going backwards (and downwards)then Europe will become irrelevant. I ask the pro-Deila camp: when are you going to press the panic button? When will you know when it is too late? Oh yeah, and stop talking about a team in transition or rebuilding. It’s the same team we had last year. A good coach would have had them on auto pilot: “bhoys, go out and play like I know you can.Keep clean sheets like last season and score lots of goals like last season.”
Fortress Parkhead? My arse.

I have found the support of Deila and the general running of our club very interesting over the last few days. We have one guy in particular who wholeheartedly supports Deila and our illustrious boards vision for the future. I cannot share their optimism, as what we are witnessing at Celtic Park is nothing short of a disgraceful policy of downsizing, which is doing untold damage to the welfare of Celtic. If the powers that be cant, or wont generate the finances required just to make us stand still, not take us back to a level that we found ourselves under the Kelly’s and White’s final days, then they should not be in power. It all sounds familiarly reminiscent of the old boards support letters in the Celtic View back in the late 80’s and early 90’s.
It was a massive gamble on Lawwell’s behalf to appoint a nobody from a weaker league than our own, to manage, imo, the greatest club on the planet. By all means, go down the road of change, be it fitness, tactics, philosophy, but please, appoint a guy that can inspire, communicate and deliver progress, not regression and apathy.
It is a fact that this manager has lost the dressing room, or certainly most of the players within and with that, there can only be one outcome.

Lost dressing room is a fact?…hows that then? You offer no evidence bar speculation about what he said to our right back pair, if you cant back it up, its just hearsay.

The players from Ambrose to Johansen and Brown have came out and supported the manager. Who in squad has came out and decried the manager? The words “celtic sources” when used by a Daily Record reporter who has a history of talking bollocks will not be deemed acceptable in my eyes.

I remember a few weeks it was being touted Tony Stokes was unhappy yet he is playing every week, seems happy enough to me. Now Leigh “Unhappy” Griffiths will hopefully get his chance after buckling down and getting on board.

The Boards policy..well thats another argument and not one Im happy to defend but I will defend the guy who was willing to take the job when offered unlike others.

Only Lou Macari has a worse record as Celtic manager. What worries me is that Ronnie isn’t worried. The break came at a good time so Ronny can try to get things worked out. I would hope we should beat Ross County by at least 3 as they’ve been pish this season.

I’ve stated on here in the last few days (and before) that I believe the LONG TERM issue with Celtic is with Dermot Desmond and his level of involvement at the club.
His interest begins and ends solely with keeping the club’s head above water, financially.
He’s neither the time nor inclination to become a day to day , hands on leader.
Whilst this brings a feeling of security, i.e. we won’t do a rangers under his stewardship – there’s also a feeling of us just going aimlessly round and round in circles ,year after year (relatively regardless who’s our manager/coach).
Deila was sold to us as the dawn of a new era – a man who was going to overhaul the whole football side of the club from top to bottom . Like a Scottish Ajax , we were told .
Now with the Keane news we can see that was Lawwell’s way of selling a second choice unknown to the fans.
Ironically I think Deila would like to ACTUALLY DO that overhaul.(Whether he would have the ability is another matter)
But that would require the man at the top to release some power to him. And he insists on keeping all the power.
He picks the manager , no-one else.
Remember , he over ruled the board in 2000 to bring in MON , after the board had offered the job, and had the offer accepted, by Gus Hiddink.
I’m also uncomfortable with the casual manner in which he appears to have offered Keane the post.
i.e. over a quick cup of tea with a man he had mat only once before , in 2005.
That attitude exemplifies his handling of , and thoughts on Celtic Football Club.

Brilliant on the huns ridiculous complaints about the facts. I think they should change their name in the next iteration of their shameful club to Denial FC. It still irks me that they were credited with league championships when they won them with a clearly illegal financial advantage. Anyway hopefully they will be a distant bad memory soon enough and equally hopefully it will be as farcical as the first time round. For us onto a stable team and winning games week in week out. that will make it even worse for them 🙂 HH

Devoy45, I don’t know about pushing the panic button…. I reckon we should wait at least half a season (until January) to make any type of assessment of Deila’s time in charge. At that point he will hopefully have the new players up and running and used to the club, he’ll have had time to get his tactical ideas across to the squad, most of the players currently injured will hopefully be back and there will have been enough games played to make an informed decision on. Even if things aren’t going as well as planned in January I wouldn’t necessarily sack him but the Board can say they want to see improvement and will review again in summer (but if form was to dip badly between January and summer they would step in and push the panic button – ie sack him)

I’m not saying Deila will be a massive success, I honestly don’t know if he will or won’t be. What I can say is that:

1) I support what the Board is trying to do in appointing Deila (taking a calculated risk at a point in our history when we can afford to, in the hope that Deila can close the gap that has grown between Celtic and top European teams in terms of performance, tactics, technique and (dare I say it!) fitness). The alternative is just get another British coach who will win the SPL year in and year out, maybe punch above our weight now and again in Europe but not fundamentally change the Club to move with the times and adopt the approach most European clubs took years ago.

2) It’s too early to make a judgement now on Deila (it’s worth noting I’d be saying the same thing if it was the other way round – if we were in the CL and had taken a third of our chances against Hamilton and won 5-1 and people were on here saying Deila was the next Jock Stein then I would still say it was too early to make a judgement)

3) Some of the negative reaction to Deila is just factually incorrect eg “it’s the same team as last season” – no it’s not, plenty of 1st team players have changed! “He’s lost the dressing room” – name one current player who has said that? Most have very publicly backed him.

The only way of bridging the gap,in European terms,is by signing QUALITY. 2/3 players can lift the whole team, and by the example they set,

Some good points made by contributors to-day but what I would like to know is how long it is going to take the players to get used to Ronny’s way of playing? Football is a simple game to play or it used to be. I remember going from one club to another, ten new teammates. First half I kept getting caught offside. Was told at half time what my problem was. Second half, bloody hell I ran riot. Took me forty-five minutes to get used to a new system, how long is it going to take the Celtic players to do the same? Or is it the managers fault for not getting it right? It is not going to be much longer before we know the outcome. God forbid we have to share a stadium and worse, the streets outside with that lot from the west side of Glasgow when we inevatibly meet. It’s going to be hell.

Sack the manager, sack the board , string PL up ‘I don’t trust the board on Finance full Stop’ best comment on the page. Holy Sea try following Sevco on Financial Management and your comment might find some justification instead of sounding ironic.
Get a grip everyone . Another example of Ex Players criticizing the Club in the Daily Ranger. Living Wage? Food banks? WTF? It’s a Football Club!! Let the politicians do what they are elected to do and Finance for Social Deprivation. Celtic are not a charity but some commentators seem to think they should be.That gave the DR a full page story yesterday no better than Sutton and Hartson IMO.Stop feeding the frenzy and get behind the club ‘Faithful Through and Through’ time to start showing it. Give RD a chance Champions League Qualifiers will always be too early for Celtic unless we get summer football. New Manager, new players injuries to important players at the wrong time. RD hit the Perfect Storm. My biggest criticism of RD is that I wish he would shut up ,stop talking to the press and as someone said yesterday what are The Celtic PR people getting paid for. Time to shut up shop get on with the changes internally and treat the MSM like mushrooms until we have something positive to say then Shout it from the Rooftops. Christmas is decision time we are still only 3 points off the lead after 9 games we are heading for the League Cup Quarter Finals and we are still in The Scottish Cup and have taken 4 points off our nearest rivals in Europe what is there to complain about. Right all you that said get top players in splash the cash, tell me what player would come to scottish football that’s worth £6 – £15 million and top the wages with £40 – £100 thousand a week, you have mediocre players in England getting that. And as for Sutton did he not leave celtic because wee Gordon Strachan was training the players to much & he said that he only trained twice a week if so I think strachan won that, harts on how many fans remember shouting at him to move his fat arse, good players both but they want in the media and they have to toe the line. And as for players being fit and can’t get game what utter shite do you honestly think that the msm would not bring that up to put another wedge between fans and club.
Don’t like what I see just now but think players should get some stick especially as one of them came out and said players are hiding.

Who is asking to splash the cash?
As for players being fit and not playing?
Maybe some people have a better and closer insight to what is actually happening at the Park.

I feel for ronny. In my heart i know he’s trying. It must be tough doing a job like this knowing you weren’t first choice. Ex players friends of the previous manager constantly criticising your every move. No money to sign players, third parties this john park guy signing your players. No advice from the celtic media centre to deal with the hostile local press. I feel the man is alone. That he can’t win. Would you blame him for takin the job Inn the first place, he wanted to progress. And felt he was by joining celtic. He was hoodwinked into the celtic board pr machine. Ronny stay man, your not at fault, but the board, time to go boys please the lot of you. Get out

HS if by Christmas ,we are out of Europe the League Cup is gone and we are still in 6th place then it is time to do the Tony Mowbray and get rid but until then we should get behind him and support him and the Club . There are plenty out there drooling over Celtic at the moment when the real story is being deliberately ignored across the great divide.

Dan,I agree.
I am giving him my full support. We have all gone on too much about Deila.I feel sorry for him, being on his own here. All the critisism, could make him stronger. If results start going his way,
he will make fans, like myself, look foolish.I have decided to lay off Deila and give him a chance.

Some good debate and apart from some petty name calling good points made. There seems to be a lot of right and wrong banded about which I don’t understand; Charlie, Desi and Martin (among others) haven’t tried to convince anyone what is on show is good enough, we all accept it has been a poor start. The only point being made is whether RD has had enough time to implement his ideas. That is completely subjective and there is no right or wrong.
We all want better, and I for one hope he is given more time to deliver better. I said before look at it in February after he has done his transfer business and see how we’re competing and in what tournaments. If it is still gash then, fair enough.

Andy bhoy fans on this site are saying we should splash the cash. And as for people having a closer insite to what’s happening at the park do u not think player, msm who are trying everything to put us down, sources from inside come on we have heard all this before a friend of a friend of a friend told me this, stokes, griffiths, commons heard all the shite before and none of it worth anything.
In this day and age with Twitter, twatter, twiddle and other things someone would have gabbed something.
Christ we had it in 50s 60s 70s ect with all the story’s you heard its a surprise some of the players came on a pitch to play never mind being alive.

We know what the media are and we know this has always been the case, but at present, we are the masters of our own downfall, we are also masters of our own destiny, unlike some other club out there.
I think the frustration for most of us, is the ineptitude shown by the powers that be and a guy who is totally out of his depth in terms of managing and coaching a reasonable standard of player.
Any of the points I have previously mentioned in other posts, are first hand, not second or third or a friend or a friend of a friend.
I look at what is happening at the Park and I kid you not, I could weep.

4-2-3-1 is not one up front. 4-2-3-1 should mean when either winger has the ball, there are 3 targets in the box, or, if the central of the 3 has the ball he has 3 runners in front of him to play in or take defenders away to open up space for a shot. Thats why after every game Deila is saying the timing of runs and movement has to be better. 4-4-2 is flat and predictable, plenty of top teams use 4-2-3-1 to great effect. The manager needs time, until January at least.

I’ve been challenged twice on my “same team as last year” comments. Well…

Lustig/Matthews/Fisher
Ambrose/Van Dijk/Izzy
Brown/Kayal/Johansen/Biton/Commons/Forrest/Boerighte
Stokes/Griffiths
From this you can argue that we have only lost Samaras and Forster. So, we have ten of a starting eleven back!
That’s pretty close to what “same” means, ken?
Players sent out on loan are down to Deila.
Does “in transition” mean you’ve brought in a bunch of players who aren’t any good: Tonev, Wakaso, Berget, Scepovich. I except Guidetti and Denayer.
Our management?
Kenny Miller was our leading goal scorer and finding form when he was forced out. Ledley and Samaras were also forced out. Now, we find that Commons is probably being screwed as well. What’s wrong with pay rises for good performers? Is this good man management? Not paying people a living wage is a disgrace for Celtic Football Club.
Anyway, old man Devoy will take his finger off the panic button, for now at least. You’ve changed my feeble mind, once again. I will suffer with you until the New Year, then eat humble pie for Hogmanay or more likely, try like hell to not say “I told you so” when it all goes pear-shaped and Deila, an intelligent and good man, must go back to the fiords, having failed.
For the record, I welcomed the Mowbray appointment! I also welcomed the Deila appointment. If we wanted REAL disaster, Keane would have been it.

One last thing: no NO voter should sing Flower of Scotland without choking on the words. While the hypocrites send “prood Edward hame…” they were too feart to put a simple X on a piece of paper. Meanwhile, we punish the poor and spend millions killing women and children in Syria.
Hamish Henderson’s “Freedom Come All Ye” is the song we should sing in Scotland. Ireland already has plenty of good ones. Awa for my medication…
