Celtic Diary Saturday June 10: Don’t Speak..Unless You Say The Right Thing

Chris Sutton is set to replace Andy Walker as Sky TV summariser for Scottish football.

Andy Walker, meanwhile, has thrown his hat into the ring for the vacant Celtic manager job.

And let’s face it, if it’s vacant they want……

It’s a little unfair on Walker, joking aside, as he surely cannot have been axed down to the quality of his contribution, as Kris Boyd has kept his job, and Boyd not only contributes little to any debate, but does it in an almost unintelligible style.

Could it possibly have anything to do with the climb down forced on Walker after this ?

Andy Walker in scathing VAR claim as he says Sky audio picked up officials telling refs to take ‘easiest way out’

Back in April, Walker made this accusation which was quite revealing, given the controversy surrounding one or two decisions that have been made during the debut season of the new referee aid.

Now he hasn’t got a job.

If the two incidents are connected, that’s actually quite sinister.

And confirms suspicions that there really is a closed shop around any form of discussion about how the game is run in Scotland.

Sky TV has long been ditched in my own household, I tend to listen to Radio Scotland these days for my match coverage.

On there you get the enthusiasm that is simply not there on the satellite broadcaster, and the licence fee isn’t ploughed into the English League so they can come up and spend it on our top players.

By yet another remarkable coincidence, Radio Scotland’s Sportsound is doing a series of debates on the state of Scottish football, and this afternoon between two and three I’ll be on the show, which is as much of a surprise to me as it is to you.

Although unlike on the podcasts, there won’t be any background noise from the van as I’m not going to kidnap anyone today, and most of the bodies from last week have more or less disintegrated in the heat.

I believe VAR will be discussed, and there are , of course problems with it. I’m still peturbed by the “honest mistakes even out argument ”

Apparently the mistakes cancel each other out over the season, an argument that falls apart when you realise what we actually have is just a long, long list of mistakes.

There’s still no movement on the new Celtic manager, but those at the ranch are still convinced it’s Maresco.

Having heard this last week, I was asked at work if I ever place a bet on the outcome of some of the events mentioned in the Diary, based on the word of a couple or three cowboys who indulge in tittle tattle whilst slurping from their tins of beans, and that prompted me to ring the wife and suggest she uses her account to place a wager.

Let’s just say that she doesn’t trust my judgment, although she didn’t need to use that sort of language in her reply.

After all, that’s all it is. tittle tattle.

Until they get it right, then our urine soaked friends are no less than visionaries, with their somewhat sweaty fingers on the pulse.

Anyway, I reckon Andy Walker should get the job.

At least we know no one would try to poach him.

Speaking of visionaries, the latest from Barry Ferguson shows he , too, has his finger on the pulse.

Rangers shouldn’t laugh at Ange exit but instead start restoring natural order amid Celtic dominance – Barry Ferguson

Barry Ferguson hopes Rangers can start picking up trophies in a similar fashion to how he did in his Ibrox playing days

It’s that hope that kills them.

I’m curious as to the phrase “natural order ” has come to be associated with “rangers ” winning trophies.

They did have a dominant period in the nineties, where by the admission of several involved, they could buy players they otherwise would not have been able to afford by using the short term policy of not paying the tax on them.

That led to liquidation, which cannot possibly suggest it was , on balance, the way to run a football club, but Baz seems to think that’s the way forward.

In fact, as he points out, he has got this natural order thing a little bit mixed up….

Put it this way, Celtic’s decades of dominance are not going to be ended by default. And it’s worth remembering that, while Postecoglou claimed five out of six trophies in his two years at Parkhead, this was just the latest part of a pattern which stretches back way longer than a couple of seasons.

As we have seen with Andy Walker, perhaps the quality of contribution is not really a factor in securing employment in the mainstream media where Scottish football is comcerned.

Except, of course, on Radio Scotland, where they know how to pick a contributor.

did I mention I’ll be on the radio today ? (for fucks sake, see if they’ll use a stunt double -Ed )

Yesterday, we had this…

A reference , of course, to the images of the two playing keepy uppy on a beach whilst on holiday.

Took me a while to spot Starfelt in that one, to be fair.

Today….

Sportsound another byproduct of disfunctional journalism. Watched the hour long Billy Boys Corporation season over analysis which went on about the Rankers at great length, just a pity the treble was earned by a better team

I read this too late to release that it was good not to hear Sportsound today. Does that mean though that youve had gallons of soup or did they cut the show at 15:01? lol
