Celtic Diary Thursday June 8: In The Good Old Summertime

The return of the Diary to the world wide web has raised a few eyebrows, a few smiles and a few what could loosely be called  more honest comments

JM1967
@tpe365
a steaming pile of shite to compliment yesterday’s steaming pile of shite.
Happily, for this reader, we think we’ve managed to retain a level of consistency today.
ITV have I’m a Celebrity and Love Island, the BBC have Strictly Come Dancing on Ice and the Apprentice as mainstays of their output, and Celtic FC have their Find Me A Manager franchise.
The latest is that betting has been suspended on Brendan Rodgers getting a seond stint in charge. Dermot Desmond wants him, which usually means that’s that, though the rest of the board are split.
Some think he’s a bloody liar who can’t be trusted, and the rest think he’s worse than that.
Rodgers apparently ruled himself out of the running the other day, and now it seems he hasn’t.
I think we can safely say he hasn’t changed one bit.
Anyway, we did get a draft of his acceptance speech………
Image
At least we’d know what we’re getting with Brendan, and it would save us bothering with any emotional attachment.
Any time he said anything we could just nod and smile.
There’s no further word from the ranch, and they still think it’ll be Maresco, whichever way we spell it.
One interesting line taken by our intrepid mainstream media is, or at least will be, is that should Brendan return on his white charger, he’ll have Moussa Demebele riding behind him.
Dembele has left Lyon and is out of contract, and whilst we seem to forget that when a player is out of contract it’s becuase no one has given him one, there will no doubt be calls for him to be snapped up.
Speaking of out of contract players, Jack Butland has joined “rangers ” as part of their drive to field eleven players next season.
Beale is delighted to have snapped him up, though when the hordes see this video, of him singing along to the Calum MacGregor song with Joe Hart, they’ll probably just want him snapped.
He’s singing, not signing , of course. I asked You Tube to spell it that way to fit in with the style of the Diary.
Over at Ibrox they don;t have much to cheer them up, but with West Ham winning the European conference Cup, and Mark Warburton…remember him?….on the coaching staff, you’d think they would at least send congratulations…but nope.
Image
When did they sign a rabbi ? Truly they are for anyone and everyone.
We , of course, offer our congratulations to Davie Moyes, the West Ham manager, and hope he has many, many years of success in London.
I see what you did there GIF - Find on GIFER
Back at the ranch and it’s gone quiet after a flurry of activity, which usually means there is about to be white smoke coming from one of the chimneys.
Clearly Celtic won’t want this to drag on any longer than neccesary, it took months to appoint that fat bloke, and there won;t be any hanging around this time.
Presumably they will now offer a three year deal, knowing whoever gets the job will be away after two.
Then again, perhaps there’s a better way.
Instead of hiring a manager, let’s just get someone in to the the press conferences. Someone who can keep the hacks amused with a jolly jape and perhaps a song and dance routine.
As for the players, let them sort out between themselves who can play and who can have the day off.
It might not be successful, and we might not win another treble, but at least no one will buy our players, no one will poach our manager, and it will add a sort of unpredictability to the match day experience.
We could offset the transfer income by simply charging fans an extra tenner to be added to the substitutes bench, a pre match draw would ensure we’d all be in the ground well ahead of kick off and not in the tavern or the vaults.
Frankly, that’s a far better idea than asking Rodgers to come back, who has already shown he still has an aversion to telling the truth.
On  a more serious note, and to take your mind off the crap we’re going to see in the media over the next few days, or weeks, or, given that our board can be slower than a night in the cells, keep an eye out for this……

Why will Pep sit on the interview panel for a Celtic manager?

Are Celtic part of the City Group now and they just forgot to tell us?

I can only agree and hope that Moyes has many more years at WHU ,after watching the game last night I don’t fancy moving from Angeball to Bootball in one season.

Moyes is a practical and successful manager given the resources at his disposal.

Given the overwhelming domination we have then I’m sure he’d play a more expansive game.

I’d imagine, after last night, he’ll be staying at the poor little Hammers.

So much for Celtic having ‘turned a corner’ as some have been claiming for months on end.

Will be a bit controversial but to be honest I couldn´t care less if the manager ups and leaves after 2 years if he had done what Ange had done and delivered trophies. I couldn´t care less if he “gets it” or told us he had a “Celtic Subbuteo team” when he was a kid.. no I want a manager who is professional and even if they use us as a stepping stone but bring the success that Rodgers and Ange brought. We had the alternative with Neil and we all know how that turned out .. they got their ONLY title in the past TWELVE years. And lets face it we were all expecting him to go next year anyway .. the shelf life of a manager these days is around 2-3 years, unless they are hopeless and no one wants them , and if that was the case then why would WE want them ? Just because they were a “Cellic Man” and they “Get it” ???

Agree with everything you say, but would add, don’t go thumping your chest/ kissing the badge, and doing and saying stuff that that anyone would take to mean you are invested in the club at least in the medium term.
Be up front and cut out the posturing, and leading both your employer and fans on. If it’s only business then act as such, and don’t have your team spending a fortune on stuff you have no intention of using. In other words, just be straight with people, your colleagues and fans, not much to ask.

Crerand, Macari, Hay, Nicholas, Tierney and probably plenty of others.

All from a traditional Celtic background and all left at the earliest opportunity, hell some left before their boyhood plooks left them.

When players/managers beat their chest, kiss the badge etc, it merely symbolises their bond with us at that particular moment in time, not a symbol of undying love.

If Rodgers is the best option then he should be appointed and I’d be surprised if the majority of fans don’t accept it as such.

Sure, the media will talk of mass protests, dissatisfaction etc but, by and large, the fans don’t fall for their crap.

Those that don’t are probably the ones who thought they were on a promise of a fumble in wee Betty’s knickers and never got over when she swanned of with the plooky, rich kid.

I get its an emotional game but a wee dose of reality doesn’t go amiss, now and again.

From KDS forum via VideoCelts:
“The club have spoken with BR representatives. The comment was ‘It’s fair to say there is some way to go.’ Some of the frustrations that he had last time would need to be worked through. The other worry is fan reaction.”

If it’s Brendan returning I’ve no problem with that at all. His record with us was just about PERFECT. It was said at the time that the then CEO (now Chairman) had a part to play in Brendan’s jumping ship. It’s doubtful we’ll EVER know the truth when Brendan left nor the whole truth behind Ange going. It’s often better the ‘devil you know’ in life and for me, I’d have Brendan back tomorrow, hunskelper supreme.
It’s up to the Board to get the contract details right, that’s what they get paid for!

I don’t know if my previous post was deleted because the censor felt personally crituvised but I will make the point again. The criticism of Ange is out of all proportion-to common sense. Some of us invite the badge kissing in players and pretend professionals are really fans on the pitch. Total nonsense.

Will introduction Day for Brendan Rodgers attract over 12000 supporters, and will a drunken fan run on the pitch to welcome him or batter him?
