Celtic Diary Thursday November 12: Scottish Clubs Meet Again As Media Spots Squirrel

Our drunken contact , in perhaps a voice too slurred tells us that those clubs concerned with the removal of trophies from the original rangers club have been talking again, and they are even more determined than they were at first.

Nothing will happen until its been confirmed that BDO will not appeal the decision taken last week in favour of HMRC, but plans are afoot should the liquidators decide to act in favour of their biggest creditor, which, of course , is HMRC.

If there’s no appeal, you’d better fasten your seatbelts and get ready for the ride.

Plans are already being made for the next moves, , and you’ll be pleased to know that the clubs are doing this without involving the clueless SPFL boss Neill Doncaster.

But whats all the fuss about ?

It appears that the scandal which threatens to overrun Scottish football isn’t really a scandal after all.

And we should all just forget about it and talk about something else.

Anything else, in fact.

Talk show Radio is a massive influence in the United States. Any US based readers will verify that one way of destroying a politicians career is to get him on the radio.

If its in the news, its on the radio, and it gets people talking, and it gets issues out into the open, sometimes even bringing about change in society.

In Scottish society, it doesnt work that way.

As the biggest scandal in sporting history develops, and when there questions that need to be asked, we can , or should be able to, count on these bastions of free speech.

Well, perhaps not.

Radio clyde show Superscoreboard, tweeted;

Host Gerry McCulloch followed up with;

it’s a radio show mate. It’s boring. 7 days and NOTHING new has happened. NOTHING.

And nothing new will happen, one could argue , as long as the media refuse to look into the scandal in further detail.

On this site today, I put together a wee letter for Lord nimmo smith, asking him if he is happy enough to have his name linked forever to the scandal. Why hasn’t someone else done this ?

It’s the biggest sporting scandal in Scottish, possibly world history.

Radio Clyde find it boring.

A sports show ? Really ?

Maybe they should just give out traffic reports instead.

The idea to leave well alone isn’t confined to Clyde.

Radio Scotland holds a discussion show in direct competition to clyde, and they chose to ignore the story as well.

6.30 – we’ll be hearing from Gordon Strachan. What needs to change? What would you do to improve the standard of our game?

Operation HideThe Truth is well under way, and its a sure sign that the wind is not blowing in the direction the establishment would like. The last time the game imploded they tried to play it down, combining  it with threats of Armageddon .

So, they are playing it down, and hoping it all goes away, all we need is another Armageddon story….

And here it is.

Quite possibly the most ridiculous story ever written on this, hang on, on any, subject;

In the Telegraph, by Roddy Forsyth

SPFL clubs fear they will be hurt financially themselves if Rangers stripped of titles

Prospect of Rangers being punished for tax avoidance leads to concerns that awarding trophies to runners-up clubs will trigger impossible bonus payments

Both the Scottish Professional Football League and the SFA have referred the matter to their lawyers for scrutiny but last night one chairman, who asked not to be identified, told Telegraph Sport: “There is a strong feeling amongst clubs that this has to be handled extremely carefully because of the possible consequences.

“Suppose for the sake of argument Rangers are stripped of all the honours they won during the time they operated EBTs. Do we award those honours to the runners-up – and trigger the bonuses that would have been paid to the players who were on their books then if they had actually won the trophies?

“Celtic might be able to afford that but nobody else could. The alternative would be to withhold all of those trophies and devalue all our domestic tournaments at a time when we’ve had to go cap in hand to find sponsors.”

Another chairman, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “I certainly don’t fly any flag for Rangers and my view is that the EBT scheme was questionable and maybe even reckless from the start but they were given expert advice and they acted on it and it has taken the taxman three tries to get a favourable result.

“Rangers have paid the price for that but so has everyone else in Scottish football since the oldco went under. Right now I would say that matters are moving sideways and we still don’t know if the taxman has actually won.

“Don’t forget that the SPL clubs got solidarity payments from Uefa because Rangers were in the group stages of the Champions League as Scottish champions. If we take titles away from Rangers and Uefa demand their money back, who would be able to pay it?”

In that extract, the chairmen quoted asked to remain anonymous. They don’t want to be identified, although it shouldn’t be too difficult to spot them around town.

Look, there’s one at the bar!

So, it’s probably better we expand on the theme in forsyths laughable article.

From now on, only clubs who can prove they can afford win bonuses can be allowed to win trophies.

He really is a tit.

Or is he working to an agenda ?

Well, alright, another agenda  ?

A more serious and sinister one, where there is a trail of wrongdoing that goes much , much deeper than the dodgy dealings of a football club.

You see, in a situation like this, where there is clearly much more to be uncovered than has already been revealed, you’d think the press would be all over it.

Not only are they ignoring it, and labelling it “boring “, they are now actively lobbying that punishment would be a bad idea.

There must have been more than lamb on the table, but the trouble here is that the people we trust to ask what, may well have been the same ones at the feast.

A little more serious than usual today, so here’s a picture of a carrot with what looks like a willy. To show i haven’t lost my sense of humour.

Funny that. Please don’t make any connection with slang for reproductive organs and the Scottish media.

And , of course, the colour Orange.

That wasn’t my intention at all.

Apologies for harping on about this today, but i feel that it really needs to be kept in the public eye.

I history warns us of one thing, it is that it is apt to repeat itself if left unchecked.

Ralph

surely the smoking gun, elephant in the room, silver bullet, whatever, is Resolution 12.

The SFA cannot answer Lawwell on this because they know they are goosed, they no longer can defend the indefendisible.

Everyone and their auntie knows a tax bill was outstanding when the licence application was made and subsequently signed off by the SFA. The tax bill was indeed never paid.

This is no longer a matter for Celtic, Rangers or the SFA…….Police Scotland should be called in now to investigate a fraud that potentially has cost Scottish club’s, but
principally Celtic, millions of pounds.

It shoukd take the fraud squad all of 10 minutes to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

When UEFA have the facts of this deception on a grand scale then there is every possibility that a blanket ban could be imposed on all Scottish club’s and the national team.

If this is what it takes to get rid of the existing structure then bring it on…………even the apologists will have to crawl back into their holes.

Compare and contrast: reactions to the World Anti-Doping Agency’s report on cheating in athletics where bans and stripping of medals are seen as a fit and proper punishment for such outrageous behaviour, and the Scottish media’s response to the Court of Session’s judgement on the HMRC case and what ought to be the logical follow-up to that outcome. Answers on a postcard please copied to BBC Scotland, Radio Clyde et al.

The Title stripping should be going from 1999 onwards to 2012.
They lost the wee Tax case and admitted to wrongdoing in that.
We should be sat on 16 in a row we are by far the biggest losers in all this.
I’m not a bitter man so they can keep the tainted stripped ones well away from Celtic for me.

I agree Charlie,
Unlike you though mate I am an extremely bitter bastard, I want those titles, cups and the prize money that went with them.
I want the CL money that should have Went to us in 2011….
And most of all I want Ibrox demolished and an Irish famine commemorative statue, erected in it’s place.

So far my bucket list is going well

3) Paisley

Charlie,
” Bowl ” is my catchphrase on blogs, I have used it since the day Jim White broke the news on SSN that ” Rangers football club has entered administration “, one of the happiest days in my life.

” Bowl “? Means simply, would you like a bowl of Ice cream and Jelly?
See how innocent it is?

If you want evidence of this explanation, look on Video Celts and Phil Mcghiollabhain’s blog.

Now, that apology?

Charlie Saiz,
First of all, I replied to your post because that is normally what is done on here.
Secondly, I used your name because it was you I was replying to.
Thirdly, while you are correct that you may not have understood the ” Bowl ” comment, is it normal behaviour by yourself to call someone a Dick when you are not certain what they are talking about?
Equally, you’re aggressive tone in speaking to Andy is a bit off is it not?

Andy is a welcome and frequent poster on here and all he was doing was shedding light on what I was saying, I think he deserves an apology from you don’t you think?
The fact that Andy might agree with me on some Celtic issues, doesn’t give you the right to verbally abuse him, does it?

I note you said in one of your posts that it was ” best to stay calm “.. Hmmmmmm, calling someone a Dick and being mouthy to Andy is not the personification of calm, friendo.

Nice one Ralph! The amount of anti title-stripping spin emanating from the laptop loyal and their blue-nosed pals in a compliant media seems to has reached unprecedented heights in the last few days (more like level 5M than 5). Clearly they’ve upped the threat level to critical and are pulling out all the stops on all fronts on this. The smell of fear is palpable.

Chelsea tops, which had been declining in public appearance in Glasgow in recent months, have been making a comeback over the last week. Even some of ra peepul seem to be waking up. Are the SFA and SPFL quite happy to have a Gotterdammerung or Downfall on their hands? Either action against the cheats is taken or the professional game in Scotland may be history.

Devoy45

It’s simple. No need for all the speculation and emotion. Either the EBT players were registered properly with the SFA or they weren’t.The side letters were either made transparent to the SPL or they weren’t. There were/are penalties for players who were not properly registered. Whoever runs the competition (SFA) has a duty to make sure its competition is properly conducted. Surely, it is very easy to confirm if a player was/is properly registered or not? If my own club was guilty of this behaviour, I wouldn’t want trophies that were won by cheating. Who would want trophies that were won this way?

Abu O'Donnell

When the appeal deadline passes I hope the other member clubs press for expulsion of RTFC or whatever the feck they’re called. It seems to me the only “sensible” option left. This abomination of a club is fingering it’s nose to all and sundry.

The scale of the cheating is unsurpassed in sport, probably on a worldwide scale!
Cancelling honours, Asterisking etc., will have no effect on the cabal who run Scottish football for the benefit of a single club. They would brass-neck it out as is their wont.

This club needs to be expelled from the sport, whether that be sine die or for a set period. If not they and their sycophants will mar our sport once more.

EXPULSION is the only suitable outcome as far as I’m concerned.

Football fans from all clubs in scotland should be up in arms over this EBT scandal, our game and everything it stands for has been tarnished by it,the SFA should hang its head in shame, but they wont because that would be addmitting collusion so its left up to us the fans and we need to be heard, the heart and soul of our game has been ripped out and feasted on by the perpetrators, the corinthian spirit no longer applies, the force from the dark side put paid to that and for that they should be stripped of titles and cups stolen in that period of cheating and double dealing.

Skoosh, if there is an appeal it will benefit the creditors other than HMRC – assuming they win. HMRC went from being owed 9 mil to 46 mil (give or take) so their claims on any future revenues are magnified at the expense of other creditors.

I just wonder if there is an issue with the original sale of assets if Ibrox etc. might actually come back into play. Could see most of the debt paid back.

“Don’t forget that the SPL clubs got solidarity payments from Uefa because Rangers were in the group stages of the Champions League as Scottish champions”

Perhaps the most spectacularly stupid comment on this whole affair. If Rangers 1872 hadn’t taken part in the CL, another club would have, so the solidarity payments would still have been made. Duh.

jpm 88

Hard to overplay just how big and important this story is.
On 9th Nov CQN ran an article ” The Loan Ranger And The Bank That Went Tonto”.
Talk of bank financially squeezing their SPL club clients whilst hugely funding their “partner”.
Banker shot on his doorstep , rumours he had uncovered wrongdoings.
There may be a big reason they’re all “circling the wagons ” and many don’t want to touch it as CarlJungleBhoy alludes to .
I’ve a feeling if this was truly investigated , where the breadcrumb trail might lead to could bring down more than just the SFA .
On a football front , anything less than full exposure , cleansing and re structuring of f/ball bodies , and stripping and RE DISTRIBUTING of trophies (because that’s what would hurt them most) ,anything less and forget about debating our manager or our results , we might all just as well fold our Celtic scarf in the drawer and and find something else to do on match(fix)day.

There have been many demonstrations over the years where the people (not the Peepul) have stood up against their oppressors and won the day, the Celtic support and the old board is one example that springs to mind.

This whole issue is not or should not be the responsibility of Celtic or it’s supporters. This is a Scottish “football” wide problem and we should be standing with the supporters other clubs to eradicate the cheating and promote transparency within our sport.

I am London based and have the IT literacy of a four year old and so I am useless to the cause so to speak, but if someone with the knowhow and contacts would like to try and get a Scottish supporters against the SPFL forum opened I am sure we would all contribute.

The plan could be to set-up the forum, stop buying newspapers and keep of their websites and stop ringing their radio talk-ins.

A constructed mass demonstration against the actions of the SPFL and the Media could be mounted at every ground on chosen days.

A boycott by all away supporters at Ibrokes, the h#ns suggest this on a regular basis with other clubs not realising that the money they bring is heavily outweighed by their havoc and bigotry.

Any loss of income to the h#ns will hurt at present even if King says other wise

Stop buying products from companies that sponsor the SPFL, and others who post adverts in the papers and radio

Our clubs should also start to demand answers, not just Celtic or Hearts but all clubs have a responsibility even Kilmarnock.

If someone has the initiative to start this I guess that more ideas will become apparent as the forum rolls along

If the authorities don’t take responsibility then it is up to the supporters and eventually their clubs.

wulz

The Scottish press haven’t even asked King where’s the millions you personally promised. So when Sevco say nothing to see here, as far as their concerned that’s it finished. Thank god for the Internet and all the sites like this. A think it’s December the 2nd they have to appeal this verdict, and a don’t think they will, hence all the garbage coming from their friendly press already. Just keep up the great work as it let’s all the club’s know how the supporters feel.

Agree Monti,

But can’t understand the lack of recognition for Jimmy McGrory.
Apart from his record scoring feats , I read the story of how Celtic tried (quite hard actually)to get him to agree to transfer to Arsenal for a record breaking fee .
If it’s accurate , I’m afraid even Maley was “in on it”.
When McGrory twice refused , apparently his wages for the next season were reduced as punishment for doing Celtic out of the transfer money.
Anyway , he stayed , and the rest , as they say , is history ,record breaking history.
As he said himself , “McGrory of Arsenal just didn’t sound the same”.
Although not so successful as Manager , he still gave 2 decades of service in that role .
Once we have honoured Caesar , maybe we could petition for a statue of McGrory ; I’d also like to see a stand named after him .
I feel maybe because of the passing years , he’s being overlooked ; arguably the Greatest in my opinion .
Don’t think he’s even on the Celtic Way , is he?
Anyway , that’s my punt for James Edward McGrory “lest we forget” 😉

Monti – Would have agreed , ( and on reflection still do ) regards Maley.
Just that the story I commented on re- McGrory and Arsenal , which alluded to Maley being instrumental in trying to sell him , kind of put me off .
The Willie Maley song refers to him giving us James McGrory ; if that story is accurate ( it’s on “Jimmy McGrory” , wikipedia), then had he had his way , he’d have been , giving Arsenal Jimmy McGrory.
That aside , yes these are , for me , the 2 stand-outs whom ,after we’ve honoured Billy ,who must take their rightful place alongside Msrs Walfrid ,Stein , Johnstone and McNeill.
It’s easy to dilute this honour by over- awarding it , but this group ARE Celtic , and for me McGrory and yes , Maley would complete the story.

I firmly believe these titles and trophies should be awarded and accepted by those clubs who were in effect cheated out of them. There is no taint to finding out your competitor cheated and being awarded the winners title. In fact this removes the taint and begins to restore credibility and sporting integrity. While Johnny Hun would like us all to move on, we would
Like nothing better. Award the titles and trophies to the clubs cheated, pay the country the money that is owed through tax dodging, pay the creditors or apologize at least, then when Mike Ashley winds up the Sevco gang and gets King King disbarred fadeaway as a bad bigoted memory. We can tell our kids stories about the bad old days when we are shopping where Ibrox used to be

Agree re – the titles BroxburnBhoy ,
it’s the difference in part rectifying the error ,

Also:
One simple question ; if you’re a hun and you’re given a choice of either being stripped of trophies OR stripped of trophies and having them re-distributed , NO 3rd choice available , which would you prefer?
The one they would prefer is the one they SHOULDN’T get .
So , in my opinion , 2 good reasons for re-distribution.

Here is a thought that has been rattling about my napper since Hector won the BTC.

Why pursue it in the first place?

HMRC have the means to pursue the zombie club no question, but they failed on two previous occasions and regardless of the said means they still have to justify the legal fees etc to a government body in time of severe austerity.

I understand that they knew that they would win on this occasion because of the evidence, cover letters etc.

But it still does not answer why, they have now won their case but there is no entity to sue for any recompense.

Maybe they want to set a precedence to go after other clubs.

Or is there a chance that they can chase the assets that once belonged to Rangers RIP.(Ibrokes, the star making Murray Park, Albion Car Park etc)

Does Ashley know something that has him starting to turn the screw on TFOD, take the assets before Hector kinda thing.

Anybody feel free to tear this apart or give us an attempt at an answer.

Could someone with more energy than me quickly check the years in question (1999-2010?) and see who would get what trophies? League title.League Cup.Scottish Cup. IMO the competitions should be voided completely with titles taken away and none awarded since any teams beaten along the way would also be cheated, not just the runners-up in each competition. If I am beaten in the first round by a team with unregistered players, then my grievance is as valid as someone beaten in a final.I personally don’t want any trophies if the whole process was invalid.

The biggest scandal isn’t the EBT’s, the side letters, the awarding of the license, dodgy registrations of players etc. The biggest scandal is that the SFA, the supposed caretakers of Scottish Football were engaged in and still are engaged in a deliberate bending-breaking of rules to aid and abet a club that they had previously aided and abetted in their use of a sectarian employment policy for almost 100 years, while with their “friends” in the Free (Mason) Press telling us and the world that we were paranoid.
While many here are focused on titles, HMRC and the upcoming Liquidation of sevco, I am looking forward more to the SFA being hauled into court via big Mike and having to have their actions scrutinized in the light of day. I think that there are a lot of faceless unnamed people shitting themselves in the background fearing that their names are gonna come out. This might just show how insidious the Establishment has been in our we country where “A man’s a man for aw that”..as long as he’s a Rangurrz man.
This is part of the reason I will never vote for Independence…there is a deep rooted bigoted elite in Scotland hiding in the shadows with dodgy handshakes and an agenda that goes against human decency and equality. Think how powerful they have been..banks fawn over them and give them unlimited credit, the press is almost totally in their control, radio and TV does their bidding without a whimper of complaint.
There are dictators who have had less state control ffs. So now I look forward to the SFA being outed in court, heads rolling and previously hidden details being revealed. As I said yesterday, this isn’t the opening of a can of worms, it’s the opening of a barrel of snakes.

Check Speirs take on this today in the sadly tabloid Herald and James Forrest’s reply to it, The question is, given the breadth and depth of this and the possibility of it being fudged, what are we going to do about it ?
Boycott S.F.A and SPFL games ? We have to bring it to a wider audience by our actions and, if it is botched, bring it down ourselves. Also, wouldn’t rely on the masonic plods to investigate anything.
Wher’s ma pitchfork ?

The level of shrill denial coming from ashen faced Sevco executives is building because they know that these titles and cups are going to be stripped and handed to those cheated out of them. I think the argument that the cup or titles should go to the runners up because others were beaten earlier is a false one. Ben Johnsons medals went to runners up and they happily accepted them even though someone failed to win a heat because of Ben johnson earlier. Often the cheats are actually very good at their chosen profession and would be close to were they cheated their way to anyway like Johnson and Armstrong. Please lads let’s be bold here if they couldn’t afford the kind of players they played without the EBT scheme do you think we would have had them in our pockets – answer is YES we almost did many times. Lying King is scared. Subject of an action by Big Mick to make public the reasons why they verified him as fit and proper ( oh that will be fun ) and facing a growing grass root movement to annul the honors!! Run Kingy Run

The whole sporting advantage thing is a red herring. They cheated and broke the rules and that is all that matters, end of…..no other outcome other than disqualification and really should be expelled from the game.

And if as is believed that the EBT players were not registered properly then there will be a queue of teams all over Europe who played them in the Champs League (Porto for example played them twice in the group stages and lost twice) who would be entitled to the prize money that a victory got you in the group stages , 1 million is it not ? Uefa will start to receive a few letters claiming this back payment .. which in turn would screw the SFA and Uefa would probably start sanctions against them … This could be a real pandora´s box … Another bowl of jelly in ice cream anyone ?

Cant wait to watch the sfa crumble and the shameless masonic liers and cheats in our game be hauled across the coals. Oh how mr keevens and co must be regretting peddling the paranoid celtic fans line ! In a country where the head of the sfa was sacked for trying to give the glorious gers an on field advantage, where its normal for referees to be known to wear rangers tops in five aside games, where they are caught out in a cover up during a celtic game and where there grandmaster was given his p45 for sectarian emails , for years we have questioned this while the press covered it up abetted and laughed at us paranoid celtic fans! No laughing now are you coz the shit is def about to hit the fan for this mob. Bring on the jelly n icecream in the front row hehe

I think Celtic should erect a Famine Statue at Celtic Park.
We exist as a Club as a direct result of the Famines of our Spiritual Home I don’t think thee is a place anywhere else in Scotland that a Statue like that could hope to be.
Celtic became a symbol of hope in Glasgow for the diaspora.
Not sure what anyone else thinks about that?

Before everyone goes radge at me, I’m simply asking a gen up question.

Yes I suppose if you wee being pedantic about it then you could look at it from a Political angle?
To me anyway it is fairly simple Celtic was formed out of a genuine need to help people.
How or why they ended up in that position was not my reasoning for suggesting it bud.
No matter what Politics were involved in creating the situation the fact remains we exist due to the fact we were formed to help alleviate the suffering of those affected by it.
So as a result we will always be linked to it.
Hence my thinking behind suggesting we put a Statue outside our Ground.
Hope that helps clear it up for you Brian.

ps, I feed the birds. They are now going to roost at about 3.30 – 3.45pm . Makes you wonder, what time are our Celtic heroes going to roost? You know what they are like, scoundrals, LG , SB etc. Probably about 5pm now in the dark nights. Wee souls.
