Celtic Diary Saturday May 14: Come Out Ye Zlatan Fans

Although we celebrated after the Hearts game, and again after the Aberdeen game, to orrow is the game where Celtic are begrudgingly handed the SPL trophy by grinning imbecile Neil Doncaster, providing a golden opportunity for either Ronny Deila, John Collins or anyone else to cement their name amongst true Celtic legends;

Sometimes the simplest way to get your feelings across is often the most effective.

For Ronny deila, its the end of a turbulent exoerience as he prepares to head off into the sunset, and he’s probably going to be more than a little emotional, if his press conference yesterday is anything to go by, and he offered hope and encouragement to the incoming boss about next season;

“This squad could get to the Champions League next year.

“They have to be ready and use the experience they have. The last two seasons we have been very close. We will meet the same kind of opponents next time and Celtic should be good enough to beat them seven times out of 10.”

Should be, but the squad have proved that they haven’t learned anything, so some level of experience above what is already there will be needed to boost the chances, which frankly are no better than fifty fifty at the moment.

Whether that experience will be at managerial level with the expected partnership of O’Neill and Keane , or at player level with the -well, we’ll come to that in a moment-acquisistion of a blue chip signing…

Deila continued, dropping a fairly big hint that he will grass the troublemakers…

“I would be happy to take a call from the new manager. If he wants that then it is not a problem for me.”

Then the current boss got a little , er, emotional, looking back at his two years in the hot seat;

“It is good in one way, but in another way it is a little bit sad.

“When I get some time off and take time to reflect, I’ll feel very proud of my two years here. I will have a lot of good memories.”

“You have to be very honest with yourself, and be yourself.

“And then, whatever happens, you can look in the mirror and know you’ve been true to yourself. That gets through to the fans.

“I admit mistakes when I have made mistakes. I’ve said things when things haven’t been positive and I think you get respect for that.

“I’ve also taken the responsibility when things haven’t been so good.”

Oh stop it.

You’ve won two titles, more than quite a few Celtic bosses, and for that we thank you.

You’ve assembled a squad which has potential, and for that, we thank you.

but, we did tell you that you had to stamp your authority on the squad, and you didn’t, so when you take another job, learn from it, and don’t make the same mistakes again.

Goodbye, Ronny, maybe the job just came too soon for you. all the best in whatever you do next.

Except if you end up back at Celtic Park as manager of a Europeanopponent.

Celtic face Motherwell in the final game of the season, and whilst the result doesn’t matter, perhaps I can finally get the 7-0 thats been promised for the last couple of years ?

That would be nice.

Our tarrier carrier pilot is on another mission tomorrow, so a few of us are jumping in with the Preston Emerald , who have been known to enjoy a sing song and a good day out, which kind of adds to the excitement, as they are still completely unaware of how the Lennon CSC members can make a long day longer, and really need to work on our four part harmonies.

And we have promised to to have the one drink each.

I worked briefly in Preston for a while in 2007/8 and used to pop into the Sun Hotel to watch the occasional game on television, and it will be like a wee trip down memory lane of sorts.

Of course , by the time I get home, as we intend to have a refreshment or two when we get back to Stoke, any memories that come back to me will have disappeared again, but that measn the next time  I do this, it will be like  a whole new experience, and thus ad to the excitement.

So, are we any coser to finding a manager for to replace Ronny Deila ?

Peter Lawwell , as usual, was frank and honest with the press; ( you don’t know what frank and honest means, do you ?-Ed )

“It won’t be for another week or two, I would have thought. We have just started the process,”

“We will get the best man available who wants to come to Scotland. We have strengths and weaknesses, but we need to get in the best and get the fans back. I hope that’s what we do.”

“Every time you go out for a manager, it’s tough. However, we are champions, we are going into the (Champions League) qualifiers, we have a stable club financially, we have just announced the biggest shirt sponsorship deal in Scottish football history, we have the biggest kit sponsorship deal, we are going to play Barcelona, Inter Milan, Leicester, and it is Celtic. We still have a big appeal.”

Right, if he can do t, so can we.

It’s time for us to insult your intelligence…..

RUMOUR…..Celtic have been approached by the agent of Zlatan to see if we want to sign him on a 1 year contract.

Even we at Etims thought twice about putting this one out, but there is substance to it. Lets face it, at least the ones we make up have some sort of credibility, but this one came out of nowhere….or did it ?

In July, after PSG, who he leaves this summer, he said;

“Where I go next, it will be a surprise, a very big surprise.”

Then, in august, he dropped a hint about where it could be…

But that means a move to Malmo wouldn’t be a surprise….

Prior to that, in 2013, he spoke about Celtic…

“Celtic is a club with a big tradition and a place any top player would want to end their career.

“How could I say I wouldn’t want to play for those fans every week?”

  “Henrik was good enough to play for any team in Europe.

“But after playing at Celtic Park it is easy to understand why he chose to stay there for so long.

“No player would ever want to leave playing in the stadium for those fans.

“It’s a beautiful condition to play in.

“I have played in the biggest games in world football. But I have never experienced an atmosphere like I did at Celtic Park.”

So, the big man has a bucket list….and those capable of lip reading will notice that in this picture , Zlatan is asking Henrik to put in a good word for him with his Celtic Park contacts…

Maybe it wasn’t Ronnies time or more likely he was like some of his players and just not good enough but when I read this I thought of him.

‘“You can be shaped, or you can be broken. There is not much in between. Try to learn. Be coachable. Try to learn from everybody, especially those who fail. This is hard. … How promising you are as a Student of the Game is a function of what you can pay attention to without running away.”

My absence was far from intentional. Mrs. PB did have me chained to some extent but being the superman I am that was not a major problem as my laser eyes simply burned them lose at will. However, some major repairs to the auld hoose, which is even more dilapidated than yours truly, along with a very, very busy couple of weeks organising various events for my “young folk”, prohibited me from even reading the esteemed Diary and the celebrated comments. However, a late night or two – early morning might be a better description but Mrs. PB thought the back of Maris Pipers I put next to her in the bed was me with a hard on – saw me play catch up and, low and behold, here is Mr. Doddery Old Fool back in the swing of things. In some ways I thank the Lord I missed commenting on some of the recent “stuff”. It is beyond belief what is doing the rounds regarding the concoctions of our degenerate Scottish authorities, our board, CEO, management and players. Nor have we been helped by the “wisdom” of many of Celtic’s staff as spewed out in the press of late. I was once a great critic of the club’s silence on many issues but reading some of the claptrap from CEO, manager and players in recent weeks encourages me to take up knitting, beginning with purl and knit stitches I can apply to club mouths.

Having said all that, I am somewhat disappointed some fans can not let Deila go without kicking him when he is down. I tend to agree with Ralph that he was a man with very good ideas in his head but a total inability to transfer them to players and coaches. Consequently, we ended up for two years with headless chickens instead of peacocks. However, the fact the man had the club at heart even in his failure, surely entitles him to leave, if not with respect, then without disrespect. We are better fans than that and I believe that, in spite of deserving criticism, we should never talk disparagingly of anyone who has given time and energy to our club – perhaps that should apply to anyone anywhere. No matter the general consensus, I wish the man well in the future. The present was not his, for sure, but maybe his talents will shine elsewhere and in another era. For now, let us all look ahead in the hope there IS someone worthy of the managerial post out there. Not one hat in the ring fills me with confidence as yet.

I would say it is nice to be back but I await Monti’s PENSIONERBHOY OUT with calm apprehension 🙂

My apologies. My superman finger hit the post button before I could check over my drivel. Within the first few sentences, I notice horrific bloomers. I am afraid to check any further, apologise now for the multitude of spelling and grammatical blunders which, being a well bred Dundonian, will no doubt offend your delicate literary sensitivities 🙂

pb is it not that you have to”earn” respect,the ghuy was a total failure as a coach in almost if not all aspects of coaching,he was clueless as to the composition of a team and the requirements physical/mental of players he had 2 years to get it right and never came anywhere near to,nobody to blame other than himself.

I am literally about to be shoved out the door by the other half so this is a quickie. I may not have expressed myself properly. I was not asking for respect for him as a manager but as someone who managed our club. Willing association is always worthy of our fan’s respect and to not give it is in my opinion letting ourselves down rather than condemning the manager. As I said, I always believed we were better than that and a cut above the rest. I think just letting him go without jeers or cheers would be the simplest solution. Having said that, I am a big softy at heart when it comes to anything or ANYBODY Celtic.

Another guid yin as usual. I am not sue about the overall effect of the advert by CQN but I am willing to add my few coppers to the cause. You see, in the end, we need the media to take up the cudgel and given we are using this very same media to advertise makes me wonder if that gives them the ability to simply use the adverts as their “investigative journalism” or, as we better know it, “churnalism”. Only an excuse comes to mind.

Agree with you about Ronny. Like all good souls who did their best, may he go and rest in peace. Life goes on and, hopefully, Celtic will move on.

Hi All,

Arrived back in Canada last night but still not home. Driving from To to Ottawa as we speak(almost!) so, will we get Ibby for a season? There is a key word in the last sentence…….”season”. Associate it with books and you are getting near the truth of the rumour! It will not happen, but, hey ho, thank goodness. We should be trying to build a team long term, not provide cameo appearances for millionaires at the end of their careers. Too expensive, too disruptive and too late……enjoy the thought but pray that it goes away!

Back on the road,

Just in from grandsons first holy communion,great day,though no Neil Lennon.
My problem is this,if it’s OK for cqn or whoever,to take out an advert in the guardian or whatever newspaper,then that newspaper accepts the facts of that advert,then if it accepts that the advert is factual,then why is no journalist from that newspaper,taking up the story?.

Uralius

Perhaps they don’t feel it is news yet. The waters are too murky. Surely those taking out the advert have to sign of click a checkbox accepting responsibility for the content of the advert. Although I am not a lawyer.

I am not a lawyer either but,they do have lawyers checking individual adverts to ensure that they cannot be sued,they did that last time i believe with the Herald advert,for the Cellic supporters statement.
What i cannot understand or perhaps admit to myself is why the Board did not wish to get involved earlier,perhaps they thought that if the petitioners looked as if they were forcing there hand then that could get them of the hook with the National Assoc.Whatever at last it looks like progress and what many supporters want especially if season books sales are stalling,is the boards involvement and support,even if we fail,at the very least we have tried.
Well done to the Petitioners.

Celtic playing well…open attacking play. Shooting boots are not on so far with shots on goal being weak. Rogic has lost the ball a few times in good position but he is always capable of a spectacular goal. he had one shot from outside the box that was class.
The position and chances created so far merit at least one goal. Hope this does not come back to haunt us.
