Celtic Diary Thursday April 21: Goodbye Ronny, Hello Roy

A short, and somewhat unusually worded statement from Celtic spelled the end of the Ronny Deila years-just about right to use a plural- after the norwegian manager finally managed to break away from a job he wasn’t finding much fun any more;

CELTIC Football Club today announced that Celtic Manager Ronny Deila has decided to leave the Club at the end of the season. Ronny has already led Celtic to a League and Cup double last season and is currently aiming to deliver Celtic’s fifth consecutive Premiership title.

Having thrown him to the wolves at every press conference, having saddled him with their choice of back room staff and handed him a list of duds to choose from every time nearly every time he wants a player in to replace the ones sold on as part of the deal they undertook to come here in the first place, the club sound surprised he wants to leave.

He tried before, but a desperate Peter Lawwell didn’t fancy admitting that he’d made an arse of another managerial appointment ( Mowbray ), so Deila was talked into staying. This happened after the Ajax home game, and led to the board asking Strachan, sometime around Christmas, to hold the fort until someone else could be found.

Deila made the fatal mistake of not demanding complete control over all aspects of the football side of the business. Whilst there is a need to delegate, others have far too much influence on how the team is run.

We are all aware of the way Celtic find players, using a database and certain agents, and although it is true the manager does have the final say, its only from a carefully selected list that he can choose.

These are the 51 players signed since 2011;

You can’t remember half of them, can you ?

If you can, you’ve probably been trying to forget them, so i’m sorry to bring them up again.

The point is, at the start of the season, Celtic needed more strikers. Nadir Ciftci came in, and then he was joined by Colin Kazim Richards and Carlton Cole. Who else was on the list that prompted Deila to choose those three ?

Stephen Hawking ? Stanley Matthews ?

Fine, Deila is away, but there’s a damn sight more needed here than a new manager.

To me, it appears the board are deflecting away from their own shortfalls. Don’t get me wrong, Deila did not stamp his authority on the club, and therefore did not command the respect, maybe even fear, that all good managers need. He lost interest some time ago, and wanted out.

Let him go.

He has shown, in his departing, to have more dignity, more , well, class, than anyone else associated with this omnishambles;

“It is vital that the Club comes first and instead of me being the focus, hopefully now the team and the Club can be the focus as we enter this final important period of the season.

“It was an absolute privilege to be named manager of Celtic, such a wonderful football club, and I have enjoyed my time here immensely. I will never forget the welcome I received almost two years ago at Celtic Park from so many fans. When I joined Celtic I knew I was coming to one of the world’s great football clubs.

“There have been some great times and I am delighted that we have brought some trophies to the Club.

“I was delighted in my first year to bring our fans a League and Cup double and enjoy some European nights at Celtic Park, and I am pleased this season to be well in contention to win another Premiership title.

“There have been some disappointments and times when we have not achieved what we had hoped for and I’m realistic and honest enough to admit that, but I know that the players, myself and my backroom team have always given everything we had to bring success to our supporters.

“I would like to thank everyone who has supported me so well at the Club. The fans have been magnificent during the past two years. Our fans are the heartbeat of the Club, they have always given myself and the team such amazing support and always created such a great atmosphere. We have always given our best for them and I will always be a Celtic supporter too.

“I also want to thank Dermot Desmond, Ian Bankier, Peter Lawwell, the players and my staff. They have given me everything.

“My total focus now is on retaining our Premiership title and making it five-in-a-row for our great club and proving that we are the best in the country. Myself and the players will be giving everything we can to achieve this and I know that starting on Sunday we must all unite and drive the Club on and really go for what we all want as Celtic supporters – to be Scottish Champions once again.”

He refuses to slate anyone, even claiming the staff have “given me everything”

Yes, you could say they were right behind him. When clearly, he’d have been much better having them in front of him where he could keep an eye on them.

Chairman Iain Bankier added;

“I would like to thank Ronny for his contribution to the Club and, on behalf of the Celtic Board, give him our best wishes for the future in everything he does.

“Ronny is a fine man with strong values of honesty and integrity. He has had some success, which we have enjoyed, and I know all our fans will back Ronny and the players as he looks to bring us more success in the shape of a second League title.

“We are all Celtic supporters ….

“The Club, as always, will give Ronny our full support until the end of the season.

Seriously, I don’t think he expects any of us to believe that.

and Peter Lawwell, looking a little dishevelled and with Dermot Desmonds bootprint on his arse, also paid tribute;

“Ronny has given everything to Celtic during the past two years and we thank him for his contribution to the Club. He is a man of real humility, someone of tremendous character, and I personally wish him nothing but success for the future.

In the immediate future that means the Scottish Premiership title. Ronny has won it already once before and I know everyone at the Club and our supporters will be right behind him and the team as he aims to do it again and make it five-in-a-row for Celtic.

“This is what we all must do now as supporters and together focus fully on achieving another title victory. If we achieve this we will aim to build again next season and make it many more.

“I would like to take this chance to thank our fans for all they have given the Club this year. Celtic has been the dominant Club in Scotland for many years and I can assure our supporters we will do everything we can to ensure that Celtic continues to be the biggest and best in Scottish football and meets every challenge which lies ahead.”

He said “build again “, didn’t he ?

Celtic under his tenure haven’t built anything. Its kind of tough to do that  when someone keeps kicking away the foundations.

Its got to the stage where you don’t believe anything they say, Bankier, for instance, will no doubt read this, and claim I’m some sort of communist fifth columnist, and its all my fault, and others like me, that the club is currently knee deep in the big muddy.

Wherever Deila ends up, we wish him well.

So, what next ?

Can it be true that Mark Warburton is coming in ?

And Dave King is paying his wages  ?

With an EBT ?

Don’t be silly. Dave King never pays for anthing.

Well, it won’t be dull next season, thats for sure.

Roy Keane is the preferred choice, and three entirely independent sources have confirmed this. Not only is he the preferred choice, he is more likely than not to be the next boss.

His reaction to the speculation ?

‘I’ve two jobs, ITV and Ireland. No comment.’

And that bastard Collins had better be nowhere near the ground when I get there

I might have, er, paraphrased a little there.

Others have been approached, but have failed to impress. Especially Moyes, which is a relief. Apparently, he was “less than impresssive ” when he was spoken to.

There appears to be a new age about to begin at Celtic, and maybe the board were waiting “rangers” to provide serious competition, though if true that borders on neglect and means that the old firm truly are still firm, which would be reason enough for us all to chuck it.

Owner sometime operator Dermot Desmond has pledged an investment of £15m, plus whatever is raised from player sales, making a grand total of around £15m. This will be spread over two years, with £10m available initially.

However, there remains the problem of who chooses the players we buy. given the last list presented to Deila, the next one probably won’t have any footballers on it, as they cost too much and keep getting injured.

And if Ireland are at the Euros, who will welcome the players back for pre season, which due to the piss poor European campaign last year starts three days before the final league game of the season ?

A number two has to be found, and found quickly.

Deila leaving is not the main problem at Celtic. Its the fact that one or two others above him are staying.

Unless Keane stands up to Lawwell, then the whole charade will play out again next season, with Keane probably chucking it just after Christmas when he’s asked if his connections at Manchester United could maybe get us Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes in.

So, how do we prevent this…..?

Welcome to Mathematics Made Easy, another new section to the Diary.

Peter Lawwell took  home around £900,000 last year. John Park, who is responsible for the scouting department, we hear, takes a massive £600,000 p.a. from the club.

Get rid of these two, and you have a decent wedge for Keane, and a decent wedge for Martin o’Neill to come in as director of football.

Keane can run the team, and will have total control over the playing side.

O’Neill will be the link to the board, in the way Lawwell should have been, doing the job that Jock Brown once did, but with the added football nous that is needed.

If Lawwell wants to stay, and i have a little sympathy for him here, as someone pointed out, he’smerely doing his job. whats worrying is that someone has chosen to reward him , grossly reward him, for doing it.

Thats the guy-or guys -we should be criticising.

Maybe Lawwell could take a back seat, with the two Irishmen running the football side of the business.

Maybe thats been the plan all along.

Goodbye and good luck Ronnie. Nice guy but totally out of his depth. Just Collins, kennedy , and lawwell to go.
It can only get better. Can’t it ?

Interesting points thre however I wouldnt let Keane anywhere near the club. Roy is too eager to throw his toys out of the pram when someone disagrees with him or questions him, we dont need that kind of instability. The 1st choice should be Brendan Rodgers with A Director of Football, I dont know who but someone who isnt in the inner circle of Dermpot and PL, someone who knows football and how to see a player when everyone else has missed it. There are a lot of ex managers out there who could do that. Would also love to see Rene Muelensteen join the coaching staff, worked with SAF for years, has incredible knowledge of the game and is a top class coach, could only be good for the players both established and young ones coming through, he was the man on the training ground for Fergie when they were ruling England. A lot of choices for the board to make but it needs to look further then the Tricolour, not always the best option!!

Tony Laughlan was Keane’s assistant at Sunderland and Ipswich, but he has now been number 2 to Dyche at Burnley (and before that Watford). Given the longevity of Dyche’s spell at Burnley, I can’t really see Laughlan giving up that job to work with Roy again.

If it is a MON RK double act, I can see Walford and Guppy returning as first team coaches. Given they are tied up with the Euros, I have a bad feeling Collins and Kennedy will be the ones welcoming the players back to pre-season training.

Thinking about the past 2 years (or more) it`s almost as if we have reverted back to committees selecting the Celtic team, Lawwell and the board have dragged our great club backwards, and I suspect deliberately. The board have done their damnedest to get the “blue pound” back, and it`s sickening.

A quick question, if the board have been complicit regarding RES 12, and attempting to get the ibrox side (in whatever guise)back to the top league asap, would the support have ANY grounds for legal action against?

Morto

Reply to  Tommybhoy1888

In a word, no.
Companies Act 2006 says only the Company can take action against the directors not the members (shareholders).
Although a good lawyer might find a way around that.

What about the other 40 club owners ???.
It looks like the owners of all the SPFL clubs (excluding sevco) are quite happy to let rangers/sevco and the SFA/SPFL off with everything they have done i.e. rule changing and financial doping.Therfor every decent football supporter Scotland should take a stance and stay away from every game until this is resolved.Do this for a couple of matches and watch the response.HH

Think i would like to see Keane but just for the craic of his press conferences and dealing with the MSM as he will take no BUllsh?t Maybe a stubborn bully is what the club needs instead of a yes man or take it on the chin man 🙂

I’d like to thank Ronny and wish him well. Great coach and would make a brilliant no.2. Needs more tactical awareness to hit the big time.

Ralph our minds work in tandem, just posted similiar on Elcormarcos blog before i spotted the diary.
Celtic need a strong Manager,Desmond wanted Roy Keane and Lawwell put him off,it says so in Keanes Autobiography.
Accountants should do Accounting and Fitba men should run fitba teams and select players going in and out.
Jock Stein before he was appointed the Cellic Manager insisted that he and he alone would decide on all fitba matters, history tells us that he was right.
Roy Keane if we get him will provide strengh a will to win and his fitba record and reputation will demand respect from the players, god help any Accountant who tries to influeince him,we ken what will happen to them.
He will also bring in some Irish players to strengthen the team, backed in this by Dermott who will inject some much needed cash.MON if he comes in will run the club in the proper way,the Media will bend to his will and if they dinny, well you ken the rest.

I don’t believe a word of that is the usual my brother knows the chef at parkheads cousin who said Keane’s coming. Why would the board at Celtic after appointing someone they could control go full circle and get a guy no one can control, a guy who walked out the world cup because he wasn’t happy, do you think he will give our club a second thought when lawell and co start interfering, he will walk. He also has a history of falling out with players and has an ego bigger than john Collins! Finally I can’t see Martin O’Neil being the boss at Ireland and then saying OK Roy you canb take over as the main man in our relationship now. No chance of this for me.

Goodbye and good luck Ronny
Roy Keane, no and again no he would cause a fight in an empty house and that might be ok if he was any good at being a manager; which he isn’t. He’s get a touchline ban in 2 games, storm out of the 2nd press conference and then be gone by Christmas, no rebuilding just demolition.
P.S. I don’t like to see anyone lose their job but if there is actually anyone in Celtic’s PR Department they should also be shown the door!

There is no chance of Keane being manager ! He’s a fucking nutcase who would walk whithin days of the appointment, the press would wind him up to a point where he explodes and I don’t see him living in Glasgow long term –
we don’t want another “luigi” situation !

Reply to  Stu67

His record of walkouts is that of a man who, not fancying the upcoming fight, grasps at any excuse, and then seeks to maximise the mess he leaves behind, thinking that we cannot see through the smokescreen of his bluster.

Mick McCarthy cleared up a football and financial mess at Sunderland, only to be replaced by Keane who left bigger ones.

Mick McCarthy has cleared up Keane’s mess at Ipswich.

I don’t think he’s “a fucking nutcase”. He’s a shitebag masquerading as a nutcase. IMO.

A while back I heard the last bit of an interview with a club chairman on LBC. One of the lower league London clubs. Pardon me that I did not catch who it was in order to credit him.

Of managers he said this;

– You’re always looking for a new manager. If you have a good one folks are trying to bag him. If he’s a dud you have to replace him -.

On the subject of an average manager he said – No such thing. In football you’re going forward or backwards. Look at clubs that tried to tread water, Coventry, Sheffield Wednesday, Villa …. when the energy is spent they sink like a stone.

Was anyone after Ronny? Other than the Scottish press?

Does Peter Lawwell follow those principles or are his watchwords mediocrity and parsimony?
Forgive my use of Lawwell and principle in the same sentence.

A major problem now in appointing a new manager is the matrix of Lawwell’s men throughout the club.
David Moyes should have insisted on the Neville, Giggs Scholes cabal, who were after the mangerial role for themselves, being jettisoned before he arrived.
Ronny was naive to the point of acquiescing in such appointments after he took the job.

If imposition of staff from on high continues, we could unearth a Manuel Pochettino only to see him take on of the many offers that London chairman explained are bound to come his way.

For me a major factor would be who the candidate could recruit as his number 2.
Steve Walford, Brian Taylor and Sean Fallon were great right hand men. Attracted by the prospect of working with even greater men.

When Martin O’Neill was appointed MANAGER of the CLUB, one of his first moves was to raise the dinner ladies to a decent wage. He was furious at the money being given to employment agencies et al. No-one argued.

Iancelt1967

Keane or Lennon? Maybe ? Same guy both on the psychopath spectrum. Might do a job at least there will be passion cold natured focussed never a dull moment. Maybe the antithesis of a milksop Ronny. Rather have a wise mind running it. But wouldn’t be overly disappointed. I think Moyes thinks it’s beneath his station and is waiting for Martinez to exit Goodson. Brendan Rodgers has an agenda likes expansive football like erm Mowbray I’d like to see someone else but I’m no expert. As long as it’s someone who can work in the boards constraints. I honestly think the board were waiting for Rangers to return and so may Keane have don’t know

Charlie Saiz

I think Rodgers would be a good appointment set his sides up t play attacking football,is media savvy and has an affection for Celtic.
I think with proper backing and a move back to building sides rather than plundering them every 12 month to keep up a mythical pretence of being “debt free” (£14m outstanding to the Co-Op is not debt free Peter stop talking shite)whilst ligning the pockets of under achieving Board Members and scouts was never a great plan.
Like it it or lump it the cosy “Olf Firm” financial gain will be back in ace and as a result our absentee Landlord might just fancy a dabble at chucking some money at it now?
Stranger things have happened.
Brendan Rodgers will have good contacts down south players wise and perhaps would relish the chance to Manage Celtic to build on his reputation.
Roy Keane is a loose cannon and likely to fall out with himself at any given time.
Best avoided I think.
If we are serious about Europe as a Club we need to be serious about who is going to lead us there.
Lawwell hopefully will take the job at Sunderland he must know the games a bogey at Celtic.

Brendon Rogers will not come to Celtic,to Diddy League Scotland.
Roy Keane was offered the job before he refused it,put of by having a diddy put in by P.Lawwell as his no 2.
I Repeat Celtic need a strong Manager someone who will stand up to Lawwell if he stays, someone who can tell him to Feck off.
I laugh at the shite being spouted about Keane,Ronny Deila was completely out of his depth but still peopal were taking in by his guff.
Roy Keane, played football at the highest level,he knows his own mind and will not be dictated to by Accountants, that is what we need, someone to fight the gutter press and put players in there place.Roy Keane for me every time instead of a lickspital.
There is no way Rogers or Moyes will come to Celtic.

Truth is there are multiple managers who could do a good job at Celtic all of them have their pluses and their minuses. The main point is that whoever is chosen has to be in charge of staff and player selection including purchasing players. Ha to be a strong character to balance Lawell if he is still there. Needs to have media savvy to deal with the vile MSM and some real tactical nous with an ability to change a game plan and players while watching a game. Of course we also want attacking football – the Celtic way.

RALPH WITH RESPECT STOP THE REVISIONISM PLEASE
I get it, you as a nice person don’t want to be too harsh on anyone but I feel I must challenge a couple of points raised in the article, which to me looks like something Ronnie could have written to present to his next prospective employers to explain why he is no longer the Celtic manager
Point 1 “the norwegian manager finally managed to break away from a job he wasn’t finding much fun any more” Really, did he escape the shackles and sneak past the attack dogs forcing him to remain with his highly paid and remunerated job running the team we all love?
Point 2 “He has shown, in his departing, to have more dignity, more , well, class, than anyone else associated with this omnishambles;” did I miss something or was his resignation tendered outside Hampden on Sunday and just kept very quiet? If so then ok maybe a bit of dignity was saved.
This is not to defend Lawwell and the board who are getting more wrong than right but and it is a big but if you look at this list of players spread over 5 years it is not actually that bad there are a number of excellent players there who have moved on to England for more money because they are playing real life fantasy football down there and does anyone here actually think we can afford to compete with premiership wages.
The problem over the Ronnie years has been failure to get anything out of the signings or move them on Johansen goes from player of the year to useless haddy the longer Ronnie’s in charge Christie and Allan haven’t had a chance under our inspired leader. I would argue that Scepovic, Ciftci even CKR have never had a fair chance playing alongside a strike partner, the list of Ronnie faults is long and exhaustive
Their is of course a bigger issue at our club but I FOR ONE REFUSE TO HAVE ANY TRUCK WITH THE IDEA THAT Ronnie DOES NOT CARRY THE CAN FOR FAILURES ON THE PARK. IF HE WAS WORTHY OF THE POST AND COLLINS WAS UNDERMINING HIM THEN WHEN THE LEAGUE WAS WON LAST YEAR HE HAD A PERFECT OPPORTUNITY FOR A HIM OR ME MOMENT.
So as far as I am concerned bye bye and good riddance Mr Delia

I was a Ronny supporter (duck) as he said all the right things and talked a good game, unfortunately it very rarely happened on the park, shame.

Observing all that went on with players attitudes and performances I often wondered who actually picked the team? Player’s who had openly stood up to the management continued to be selected. A loss of form and several dreadful displays seemed to guarantee your place.

We went through a spell were we introduced our skilful and lively young players in Allan, Rogic, Christie and Roberts and then all of a sudden it stopped. Allan & Christie disappeared and Roberts slowly made his way back into the team with Rogic doing the odd cameo. So who was actually picking the team? I am far from convinced Ronny was in full charge of team matters.

Like a lot of others I believe that too many people have a say in team matters, from players to upper management. If this does not change then we will not get the type of manager that we all want and will end up with the same problems.

Sort it Peter.

Every manager coming to CFC is a gamble, especially when you’ve got a ‘tough crowd’to keep happy and a media whose only objective is to try and destabilize the club.

RD is still young for a manager and I don’t think it will be the last we’ve heard of him. Will he leave a better manager, if nothing else he should have realized that players ‘egos’, are even more inflated than their wage packet and has nothing to do with ‘their’ commitment to the cause, that is ‘The Mighty Glasgow Celtic’.

Tough choice for the board as you can see by the comments everyone will have their thoughts on who it should or shouldn’t be. So before we get there,we need someone to have this team ready for the challenges of the new season. That means they will gave to be here Late May early June. With Ireland in the Euros that surely must rule out Keane and Martin.
When does the euros go into end of June/July.
So it has to be someone ready to take up the reigns, the now.
This is why I believe he should be here. Unless of course Rebus is right and the appointment took place some time ago,but they are still contracted. But whoever it is has to be ready to take over right away,to get this shower of gutless players kicked into shape.
I would take Nigel Pearson who deserves great credit for the rise of Leicester, tough talking no prisoners type of man.
He would sort the softies out.

Ewan,

Agree on all five. Especially number 1.

After this shambles, I cannot believe that the Board would take such a risk. If they do, it will be proof that they are out of control.

M’ON is going nowhere! He is doing sterling work with Ireland and we want to keep him. Get GS to do Director f Football, Scotland are p*sh anyway and it would be a great way for Celtic t get back at the SFA!!!!

I have a strong feeling Patrick Vieira will be our next manager. He’s got the Manchester City link, he can be got out of his NYC contract easily I am sure and he would have good connections. He was raved about as youth manager at City which would be god for us I feel. Plus he is called Paddy an has VieIRA in his name s it would appeal to our extreme supporters!!!!!!!!!!

Repeat efter me, We all might want Moyes,Rodgers Hiddink et all,who are we gonny get, well nane of them, there is no way any one of them will want to Manage in Scotland, there is nae money or glory here. All the cash is doon south in Mechico, they would only appear here if there was absolutely nae chance of gettin a gig there then they might come, very, very unlikely methinks.
Nae chance with Henke fabulous fitba player,no sae fabulous at Managing.
If we are lucky we will get Steve Evans,or someone from the c/ship,my money is on Keane or Lenny,as long as its no that we fud Pat Hanlon the ex Hibbee. If we are very, very lucky it will be Michael O Neil £750,000 buy oot clause.

Moyes for me and if not him definitely Lennie. Need to shift the Tory tossers from the board and have real Celtic men controlling our interests. Then watch us go forward again!

John, if Moyes was to come he would have come long ago, also he comes with monetary demands that the board would not like.
Downsizing was the reason Lenny was booted before, much as i love the wee fellow and would like to see him appointed i think the decision was taken some time ago.

Ronnie finally got something spot on……his resignation speech!
That was class and puts him up in my estimation.

Now the rubber hits the road again versus RC. A defeat there would certainly test the resolve of the CEO and the board to back him until season end, especially if Aberdeen win.

My fear is that the Board will think thst it had its fingers burnt after the RD decision and will play it save by appointing a journeyman manager, or a perceived “Celtic minded” one.

Rebus, with respect, many of the Managers mentioned, would never come here, this wee bigoted sectarian country,to be fecked by the bigoted press.
We are severely limited to who would come,we all hope for the mystic genius that would turn our club into C.L.contenders,i also am a dreamer but realisticly, you have to have the DNA and the mental strength to overcome some of the issues as well as the board.
Interesting times.

How about Gary Neville? Good top level experience as a player, has contacts, some managerial experience, particularly with the emgland setup. But shouldnt have such a big ego that he’d expect a top job in england.

Great diary, Ralph,

Is that really true about Strachan and Christmas? If so, it acknowledges that the Board knew there was a succession to plan before Christmas which is a little comforting.

I see that Steve Evans has been mentioned as a candidate. I hope that I can lay that one to rest. Here is an exercise for you all…Google Steve Evans! Now we already have one individual convicted of tax evasion in Scottish football, do we need another one…and one managing our club?

The diary also illustrates that we need someone in place ASAP to get ready for the qualifiers. I think this allows us to eliminate a few candidates for the job. Anyone managing a country in the Euros will not be available at season end, unless they quit their job before the Euros. How likely is that? So, out go RK, Michael of Norn Iron, and any other participant in that competition. I’ll keep MON in play because, he could complete his term in the Euros and then take up the DF position after that.
Now, here is where I am nervous. I have stated that a candidate was identified some time ago and was approached and was interested. He would have been appointed sooner but for some reason, he is unavailable until season end. Probably because he does not want to leave his current team in the lurch at a critical time. This means he is currently with a team which needs to consolidate its league position, or he has a contract that expires at the end of the season. It could also mean he is with a club that is challenging for a league title, but I think our ability to hire someone like that from a pukka league, is unlikely.

I think these are the filters that we should apply to possible candidates. They narrow the field a little, but, of course, are not definitive.

Finally, I know we are all down about the last result. But the expressions of doom and gloom are greatly exaggerated in terms of our position in Scotland. We have the best pool of players in the country by a mile; we have a lot of promising youngsters coming through and we are still more than a club.

With the correct manager the future is bright. If PL does interfere with the football side of the club too much, the message has now been sent and received.

Rebus,

The other option is that the man we want was sacked this year and the terms of his pay off mean he won’t take a job until summer so as to ensure he gets the full whack. Puts Rodgers, Moyes and especially Lenny firmly in the frame.

Too true!!!

I think NL ‘s time has come and gone. If only for his own good, I hope he does not come back. He had to endure more than any should.

I said something similar in another post m8.
The euros is the stumbling block, for Keane though it is not impossible for him to be approached.
He could announce before the euros he will be quitting with his contract up Celtic could then swoop. He may have already told Dermot this and who he wants as his number 2. His number 2 could then come in to take pre season, and Roy joins up as soon as Ireland are out. Not impossible.?

Jimmybee, that is my thoughts on Keane, remember he turned the job down before Deilia.D.D.wanted him in 2 years ago.
Because he is on International duty does not mean that he can do nothing meantime. If its him,he will be sounding out players,Irish and others at present.
Will he be more of a risk than Deilia, nope, like everyone else he wouldnt be my first choice but we know who makes the decisions and my money would be on him.

Agreed Mike,
Not to my liking, but my choice wouldn’t be to most of the supportes as well. Nigel Pearson.
