Celtic Diary Monday April 18: Have They Gone Yet ?

Some years ago, a pal of mine went through to Edinburgh after the first Black Sunday debacle. He encountered the Rangers support on his way there, as he went by train.

I didn’t go to the game yesterday, deciding instead to watch it at my parents house with my dad, now in remission, and my brother.

Heading home last night, as I exited the wee Argyll Ferry at Gourock, the hordes were getting on it.

I know how my pal felt now, and I have to say he wasn’t exaggerating.

Scott Brown, Ronny Deila and John Colllins, our leaders on and off the park, should have been made to stand there with me.

Glasgow Central had its share of cabaret as well, the delightful strains of Billy boys, echoing under the glass roof.

An awful evening, an awful day, and Deila, who at the point of typing, still hasn’t fucked off. Or that idiot sidekick of his.

Celtic got absolutely everything wrong yesterday. In fact, I’m surprised that clown even remembered it was eleven a side.

I’m not going to bother with any quotes, mainly because i can’t face reading them, yet alone commenting on them. Deila did, however, after the game, say that there were positives, and mostly Celtic had contained “rangers ”

Contained ?

The hoops sat back and allowed them the ball. And they scored twice. That isn’t containing them, thats letting them play. Deila, who came with a reputation of making players better, succceeded yesterday in making a distinctly average team look like world beaters.

Only it wasn’t, and not for the first time, his team.

Celtic played a first division side in a major Cup semi final, and sat back, hoping to catch them on the break.

One down at half time after Scott Brown fed Kenny Miller an opening goal, although Dedryck Boyata is equally to blame for that one, being turned by a thirty six year old who creaked away from him, Celtic started the second half as they should have the first. four corners and a goal within five minutes.

At this point, I thought normal service would be resumed. It wasn’t even difficult. Erik Sviatchenko, who had replaced Boyata, removed from the play as the smell from his shorts was upsetting other players, rose above the “rangers ” defence to head an equaliser, and you felt that this scenario would be repeated a few times to establish superiority. We’d just done what other sides had done to them. a wee bit of pressure on their defence, and they fold.

But no, it was back to sleep again, back along our own eighteen yard line to wait for something to happen.

Extra time loomed, and we hadn’t even had the honest mistake/penalty incident yet.

In the first period of extra time, we got the honest mistake. a seemingly innocuous one, but when Craig Thomson, who until that point had done quite well, awarded a throw in to “rangers ” near the half way line, and Barrie MacKay, who can’t even spell his first name, cracked a hopeful shot beyond Craig Gordon.

Celtic woke up briefly, and Keiran Tierney fed Tom Rogic, who had replaced Stefan Johansen around an hour and a half too late, cut in a second equaliser, and Craig Thomson, unable to award a penalty earlier, in a fit of generosity , now gave both sides five…

Bizarrely, the “rangers ” captain, having won the toss, ( our captain, not having given a toss all day ) chose to have the penalties at the Celtic end.

The result wasn’t affected. “rangers ” had no pressure in the shoot out, having already achieved a result beyond their most realistic expectations by getting to this stage in the first place, whereas the Celts could only make things worse for themselves…

It became obvious that the ball would gain height fairly quickly, but Tom Rogic hadn’t noticed that, as he beame the third Celt to miss, and that was that.

We’ve gone from wanting to be in the champions League groups, to the Europa latter stages, to the treble, the double, and now possibly just the league.

And eight points ahead or not, I’m less confident about that than I should be.

Where does the blame lie ? What will be the repercussions ?

The manager picks the team, and lays out the game plan. He got both of them spectacularly wrong.

The captain should lead, and if its not going to plan, he should change it.

The players ? One or two notably did not have the stomach for the battle. One or two were hiding, Nir Biton, for example had a bout of phew my leg hurts and wanted to come off, which would have left Celts with ten men, the subs having already all been used.

So, I’ve ordered a taxi, hang on, make that a mini bus, to head up to Celtic Park for around three o’clock this after noon, to give some people time to say their farewells, and time to collect their stuff.

Ronny Deila, John Colllins, John Kennedy, Scott Brown, Nir Biton, Stefan Johansen, Gary Mackay Steven, Nir Biton -he can go twice-, Mikael Lustig, Patrick Roberts and especially that waste of space Dedryck Boyata.

That’ll do for now, to be going on with. The new manager can decide what he wants to do with the ones not deemed good enough to get in that side.

And the board, who were ultimately responsible for this ?

Well, we hear that they are delighted. A competitive “rangers “. The renewal of old rivalries, that should shift a few season books.

Its what they wanted all along.

Another mini bus, for four o’clock.

For all of them. No exceptions.

Lawwell especially. His ability to make ย money for the club isn’t in doubt, but the policy of downsizing is a vicious circle, and the curves are getting smaller.

His tenure is over.

Clear the lot out and start again. Complacency and a lack of ambition has eroded their effectiveness, and they are not the people to run the club. They’ve shown that over the last couple of years.

Later today, no doubt one or more of them will come out and say they’re hurting too, perhaps ahead of an expected hike in season book prices, although they may wait a day or two before announcing that one.

Don’t let them fool you. They don’t give a fuck. The management doesn’t give a fuck, and most of the players don’t give a fuck.

The support do, you can tell from the tempers on here post match in the comments. Though we , at least, should show some unity. Who knows, it might catch on at the club.

Celtic yesterday were terrible, a lack of heart, a lack if fight and a lack of cohesion.

Sviatchenko, Tierney got pass marks. Rogic as well, and maybe McGregor.

Three of those were substitutes. That tells you how badly Deila got this wrong. And quite why Collins didn’t advise against the holding game is beyond me. He is supposed to be the Scottish football expert. He isn’t.

Thats why he wasn’t in a job when Celtic came calling.

When Deila first arrived, i was very critical of him. Over time, I started to think he did have a plan. Maybe he does, but he doesn’t have the mental strength and the ability to communicate that plan to players.

What we have here is fairly obviously a man who doesn’t want to be here, a team that doesn’t want him and a support that doesn’t want any of them.

It’s over.

Have they gone yet ?

Morning Ralph,
Just Sickened with the lot of it, I’m not going to get into all the obvious debates about Deila out or I told you so’s, it’s clear as day that Celtic are not being run properly from boardroom to dressing room.
I firmly believe Peter Lawwell should be the first out the door today, I hope his talks with Sunderland went well!
Something is rotten at Celtic and it has to be sorted today.

Just fucking disappointed!

I agree totally. I know we have to be realistic about our ambitions in Europe but the basic, the absolute basic requirement is that we are dominant domestically. RD won’t be shown the door until the end of the season and we can only hope that JC doesn’t get promoted to the top job (I have a feeling that this will/could happen). After that if PL is stil there then look for another left field appointment. As much as I would like a Moyes/ Rodgers appointment I just don’t think they will bankroll such an appointment. We can only hope there is a complete clear out especially upstairs

Bart,
I’m not expecting Celtic to conquer Europe mate, just to have a team on the park that can give the best of them a real game, we have done it before.
John Collins seems to take a lot of flak but I wonder how much input he has at the club, does Deila listen to him?
Sevco fucking smashed us in that first half, they played well and were up for it, Celtic once again made me feel sick to the stomach with a pathetic performance in that first half.
We all have a different take on all things Celtic and every fan should air their views, one thing that is clear above all else for me tho, is Celtic are not at the level we should be, the scouting network needs to be overhauled immediately, there are a few players at Celtic who are not fucking cutting it and won’t ever cut it.
I was excited when Ronny Deila was appointed, excited but wary of the unknown, in theory it looked like we were on to a new approach, it has turned into a disaster. HH

It is a shambles…
I was not going back next season anyway, after 20 years of being a season ticket holder. I need our leaders to put the continuity myth to bed but that seems a lost cause. I did not want to give Ronnie and John another season last year and regrettably I was proven correct.
The direction our club is going in was observed by us all yesterday.our best player was teenager playing at full back. Our other good young players are ether sitting in the stands or helping hibs. The inclusion of boyata was truly beyond belief. For that alone the coaching staff should go.

I won’t bother going over everything that’s wrong with us because we all know. On a positive note however, Kieran Tierney is going to be superstar. He put his Captain and many others to shame yesterday. I wouldn’t have been shocked if he’d asked to take a penalty as well and been told no because “more experienced” guys were available. The heart of a lion with ability not far behind.

Could write reams but too sick. They can all, well nearly all get to fek. But how do we make it happen. Fans have been saying this for two seasons now and the Board treat us with utter contempt.nhow can they not see the shite on the pitch?

Agree with all the comment here. Yesterday was an accident waiting to happen; all season Celtic have only managed to play about 20-30 minutes in most games (and there’s been no predicting which part of the 90 that comes) at a high tempo and good football to boot. The rest of the time, to be polite, has been mediocre with a recurring sense of woeful underachievement. After two years the current management have failed to make the team better and need to be on their way at the end of the season โ€“ itโ€™s a shame things havenโ€™t worked out, but there it is. Yesterday was the final nail in the coffin. If we need a new captain, then Tierney might well be the man, though there is a risk that such responsibility might be too much at this stage in his career. He has been without doubt the one consistently high performing player weโ€™ve had this season; and that speaks volumes.

Is anyone going to celebrate this title? Is anyone happy about the way we’ve won it (assuming we do) Is anyone happy that we still might have another year of these clowns in charge?

The only way to send a message as fans is to not go to the games. As soon as the title is won (it would be cutting off our noses to spite our faces if we did so beforehand) Parkhead should be empty. Send a message that we won’t be back until things have changed.

Bang on FuzzyD, Parkhead should be an empty shell for the rest of the season. And that includes when (or should that be if) we ‘win’ the title, cos that won’t be anything to be proud of, no way.
The clear out needs to start today cos we’ve got one hell of a rebuilding job to do before next season. I can’t remember seeing a Celtic side so not up for a game against them. We’ve got no heart, no spine and no balls. Aside from Tierney and a couple of subs (big Eric & Rogic), the rest of them were a disgrace

Came out the second half and showed some fight, got the goal then back to an RD formation. It’s as if it was RM or BM we where playing against, pathetic tactics from a manager the job is to big for. Can’t believe we gave them so much time on the ball, allowing them to grow in confidence, when we should have been in their faces. If he’s still there next year a won’t be renewing, I’ll pick and choose a few games. Sad days that didn’t need to be.

We were told we would do well in Europe and win the trble and anyone who thought otherwise were not real fans.

Have been saying for ages we cant pass, we cant dribble and when we shoot at goal we always seem to shoot straight at the keeper.

We were given a lesson by a team that done all those things and with more passion.

Concentrating on fitness and not on skill has been a mistake and even then the fitness looked questionable as well.

We can only look forward to a new improved set up now.
If not i really fear the future.

You can’t judge him based on one game. Just like I said after:

Legia (Jul 2014 CLQ)
Legia (Aug 2014 CLQ)
Maribor (Aug 2014 CLQ)
Maribor(Aug 2014 CLQ)
Inverness (Apr 2015 SC)
Malmo (Aug 2015 CLQ)
Molde (Oct 2015 CLQ)
Molde (Nov 2015 CLQ)
Ajax (Nov 2015 CLQ)
Ross County (Jan 2016 SLC)
Aberdeen (Feb 2016 SPFL)
Hamilton (Feb 2016 SPFL)
Dundee (Mar 2016 SPFL)
Dundee (Apr 2016 SPFL)

OK, maybe we can judge after all.

Absolutley Spot on Ralph. Everything you say is correct. Delia sent a team out yesterday who were afraid to play. That is unforgivable. He should go now. Gordon, Tierney, Shev and Griffths should stay. The rest can do one. What must Bertie and Billy have made of that yesterday? No wonder they tramped all over us. We had capitulated before a ball was kicked. Shocking. Like you I bought into the Delia dream but it’s a sham. Fear and loathing in Mount Florida. That’s what they can call the DVD.

Gutted is an understatement, Lawell has bowed to the SFA by downsizing so the league can be more competitive for when the knuckle draggers join the premiership, no doubt he is gullible to think the sponsors will be flooding back to Scottish football, he has obviously forgotten the Murray statement for every ยฃ5 Celtic spend , they will spend ยฃ10, in ebt’s may I add, we had a perfect opportunity over the last few years to put in place a strong management team with a view to do 10 in a row in a honest way, unlike them, but no..his pay structure does not reward him enough for doing this…I will always support the club because in 100 years time I won’t be here and thankfully neither will the current board or management team. ralph,
the only good things to come out of yesterdays pitiful, shambolic, embarrassing , shocking display from a team of cowards who have no right to wear the jersey [KT] excluded are that there must be a clearout now from top to bottom, Dermot if you are not interested in the team sell it, lawell, your downsizing whilst upsizing your own pockets stops here and now or you will have 15,000 season ticket holders next year.
the other good thing is that the support stands as one now, for us on here who have been critical of Ronnie his tactics formations etc there have been an equal number of Ronnie supporters which is fair enough but we must unite now and send the message loud and clear, thanks Ronnie, nice man, but not of the calibre required to manage Glasgow celtic football club.
if he does not go today our chances of winning fuck all this season increase by the minute we cannot allow that to happen.
we are celtic not lawell or brown or desmond or delia.
unite and send the message today

Nearly 24 hours later and I’m still in shock. That couldn’t have been any worse yesterday. I’ll admit that I’ve stuck up for Deila at times this season, on the basis that I thought some of the criticism was OTT, but it turns out that the criticism wasn’t OTT enough!

1) Deila has to go. If his replacement is available now (Lennon, Moyes) I’d just pull the plaster off now and get rid of him, give the new manager time to make his mark this season. If we need to wait until the summer for the new manager (Keane, MON) then we need to do something in the short term to get us over the line in the league….maybe get rid of Collins & Kennedy and let someone like Davie Hay cover as assistant manager until end of season (Deila can sit in the corner as Davie gives the team talks).

The biggest thing that hit home to me yesterday wasn’t the lack of tactical know how or the complete lack of flight in the team, it was how much fitter they looked than us. Do you remember all that talk when Deila arrived about new fitness regimes and watching what players eat etc etc? The reason he went for Collins as assistant manager is that he is a renowned fitness fanatic. Well yesterday a team who have played half their games this season against part time opposition ran us into the ground. What the fuck is going on? Do these guys even do any fitness work (because it’s obvious they don’t work on tactics, technique or motivation).

2) We need a massive clear out of players. It was a watershed moment for our captain yesterday he’s finished. Bossed in the middle of the park by a determined but limited championship player. As you say above, with the exception of Tierney, Erik and Griffiths (and maybe Gordon) then everyone else who started yesterday can go now. Get Allan and Christie in the team now for the run for the league.

3) Boardroom changes are needed. I’ve heard that the main focus for the Celtic board over the last few years is looking for a route out of Scottish football, I’m told they’re confident we’re not that far away. Well that’s great, I would love to see us get out of here too but the eye has been taken off the ball for so long that we now don’t have a team that are good enough to leave Scottish football. IF (and it’s a big if) we really are on the verge of finding a route out the SPFL then I’d keep Lawwell on, in the capacity to manage us out of scottish football, but someone else (a director of football) has to be brought in to oversee the football side. He has lost all focus on this in recent years and we are a football club after all, that is our number 1 priority. Our whole transfer and spending policy needs to change. You just need to look at the list of 20 strikers we’ve signed in last 4 years to see what a shambles it is.

I’ll finish by trying to look for some positives. Sometimes you need a result like yesterday for everyone to realise how bad things are and that change is needed. Well we’ve got the kick up the arse the club needed, change is inevitable now – but it has to be the right change. We still have a lot of talent in our squad, if we get the managerial appointment right and give him some money to spend (and give him full control on how he spends it) then we can storm the league next season and can probably beat a Malmo or Maribor to get into the Champs League. It’s a black day today but with the right change we could turn it all round for next season. Hail Hail.

I think the aim of the board has been to run us down to a level where we are not seen as a threat in English football. This will then ease us into the lower level. On that front they are doing a fantastic job. Once there it is likely to take 5-6 years to obtain champions league football.

Who needs enemy’s when you have fans like this …
RD picked the team , I doubt any would have picked different . Boyata is replaced and Eric gets booked straight away .
Broom whilst obviously struggling is a first pick . Staff Jo too . There energy and dynamism have been a loss all season. Griff , GMS, Roberts , Biton, some nothing . Zero
Perhaps if the majority spent time backing the team as opposed to glorying in our neighbours Denise things would be different

He has got to go . My disputed is now who we replace him with. Brown Johansen Boyata struggled on Sunday . Not the team I would have picked.โ˜˜โ˜˜โ˜˜

Swimming against the tide here, but I’m not convinced a root a branch clear out is needed. On reflection, we were exceptionally poor yesterday (as we have been for some time) and lacked, for want of a better word, heart. By contrast, they played well and were right up for it. Despite the two vastly different approaches and performances, they still couldn’t beat us over 90 minutes, or over 120 minutes.

Notwithstanding that they will strengthen next season (and the increasing likelihood of European football for them points to them gambling and it coming off), I don’t think we’re in that bad a place. We still, with poor management, a lack of commitment and poor performances, have higher quality than any other team in Scotland.

What we do need, however, is a change at the top. We need a new manager, someone experienced, who can set out an organised team and get the best out of the players, to come in and immediately do two things: trim the squad; and make clear that places will be given based on performances rather than reputations. I think a large part of our problems are that we have a bloated squad, but a core of 8 or so players know they will be picked regardless or performance or form (I’m thinking Gordon; Lustig; Erik; Tierney; Brown; Bitton; Johanson; Griffiths) – this leads to a degree of complacency on thier part, and discord among the other players.

Once that’s done, we need a few experienced players in key positions (CB; CM; CF; and someone to play left wing/left attack/left midfield) to guide the younger guys and instilll a winning mentaility, or at least a never say die approach. Then, a settled system/way of playing that gets the best out of those players we have, and a plan B for when that isn’t working; which makes us hard to beat, but plays attractive, effective football and we’ll be ok. At least in Scotland. Europe might be another matter.

As for who the new man is/players are, I’ve no idea. But then I’m not paid to make those decisions. Basically, all I am hoping is that DD is involved, and doesn’t just leave it to Lawell – out of our last 5 managers, 2 were DD’s choice (MON and WGS) and 2 were PL’s choice (TM and RD) with Lennon probably a mutual choice. Look at the relative success/failure rates and it’s obvious that PL can’t be left to make the choice on his own.

Need to get out of cloud cuckoo land, lads – there is no chance Hiddink will take the job. It will be one of MON, Keane, Moyes, Lennon (maybe Lambert)….that’s as good as we’ll get and to be honest I’d be happy with most of them (have doubts about Keane though). Hiddink would have his pick of European jobs, he won’t come to Celtic.

Ever since his pathetic tackle on Neymar I believe he is a poor Captain.
The lumping the ball up the park to Roberts, Mackay Stevem and Griffiths what is that all about.
Delilah talks a good story but is an empty wet paper bag, JC adds nothing to the party, and JPK what does he contribute.
We should have started with Rogic Schievechenko then we might have stood a chance.

What a shite weekend.
Not felt this low as a Tim since Willo Flood was unveiled as the marquee signing in the transfer window.
Statistically I have backed Ronny Deila more times than anyone else on here so it gives me no great pleasure to admit his time is up.
I don’t think it should be this week unless there is already someone lined up?
I think Lenny would probably be the be answer right now after all he knows most of the key players and can motivate a side.
If not then I think Deila should see them over the line then go.
His plans were fine his execution of those plans hasn’t been so hopefuly he does the right thing and offers his resignation when the Season ends.
I agree there has to be a clear out and some of the bigger names to starting with Brown Lustig who in my opinion are no longer cutting it at Celtic as players.
“Rangers” have momentum now we need to generate our own.
As for the Board?

If I were you I would not hold my breath.
You were obviously not listening to what he was saying.
I was hence why I was giving him at least 2 years to come good on it.
Not knee jerk reacting every week like some.
The problems at Celtic existed before Deila came and unless we have serious change at Board level will exist after he has gone.
The fact he inherited a team with so many on the slide (Brown

He’s ultimately failed to overcome these things and as a result will rightly pay with his job hut we will still be lumbered with these issues so long as the framework he walked into still exists.

Charlie Saiz,
Ronny Deila HAS had the tools to work with to do a better, more convincing job than he has done.
He has the biggest and most expensive assembled squad in Scottish football, there is enough quality in that squad to have got a more impressive end result, he lacks tactical flexibility, he doesn’t know his best side, he messes experienced players about and there has been no progression on the park.
I have said for a long time one up front is an accident waiting to happen, Griffiths has scored a lot of goals granted, but there lies the problem, no one at Celtic would have scored anywhere near the goals Griffiths has, if they had to come in and replace him through injury.
Celtic would not win the league without Griffiths!
Quite simply, Deila has been found out, I wanted a different outcome for him but ultimately it’s Celtic that comes first, nice guy’s don’t always win.
Celtic need to appoint a manager who commands respect and fear in equal measure.

I think he would be a good fit at Celtic.
His teams tend to play in a Style that most TIms would want.
Not a bad shout bud.

But, he can’t set up a team to defend. We’d be shipping goals, especially in Europe. He’s a slightly better class RD and a lower class Brendan Rogers. Not for me, though I think the Board would offer him the job, and I think he’d take it as can see his only other option being going down the leagues in England (perhaps Swansea may offer him his old gig back).

I feel we have a decent enough squad who should be good enough to beat a team of rejects because that’s what sevco are. But they looked fitter, hungrier and better than us,why. I thought all week if deila picks the correct team we will eat them easily.why was boyata in before Eric ? Why no rogic from the start instead of Johanson who’s been shocking all season. This manager has made us a laughing stock over the last two seasons now and his time is up. I really found it hard to watch yesterday as deila is a complete rookie without a clue on tactics or change a game. Give deila a one way ticket as this great stadium of ours will be empty unless we ge a Larsson, Keane or Moyes who would kick them up the arse when needed.

I think celtic should show ambition and go for hiddink he would be fantastic. I dont think its as bad as a full rebuild , not team wise anyway. I felt worse when martin oneil left because all those ageing players had to be replaced, we have if nothing else a bunch of young and talented players who just need the right manager to mould them.

Hiding was shafted to bring MON in by DD he would be too embarrassed to make that approach to be told where to stick his job, good manager though his star is falling.โ˜˜โ˜˜โ˜˜

What I do know is Hughes would never put up with yesterday’s heartless effort.so I am a fan, but it is a risk. Having said that delbhoy every other potential cadidate comes with a risk. We cannot go back to lennon, I am a little annoyed with him for his continuity remark, but we were on the slide in his last season.

Seems pretty much 100% of the fans are now of the opinion that RD has to go. Only questions that remain are:
1. Does he go now or at the end of the season?
2. Who replaces him?

For what its worth I think he should’ve been fired last night (lets be honest, he should’ve been fired months ago). Surely the only reason he’s still in a job is the fact the new man can’t take over until the summer? Surely the club have someone lined up? There’s no way they intended to keep RD in place even if he won a double. Surely?

Lots of talk of MON & RK, only way that would happen is if PL also leaves.

We need a decent, experienced manager who is going to be given license to MANAGE the football department, that means deciding which players to sign & sell within an agreed budget.

Dark days but perhaps the club needed this kick up the arse to get their head out the sand.

Heard rumours that WGS was offered the job a couple of months ago until end of season but didn’t want it. Probably why RD is still there.

Maybe I’m giving the board too much credit, but they MUST have someone lined up to take over in the summer. Would be unbelievable negligence if they don’t.

There should be one change and one change only.

A new manager or director of football and not another board patsy.

They should then decide who stays and who goes and not those who eff it up, time after time.

Thrres always a risk tony , totaly agree about hughes , they would have been far better motivated under him yesterday. This is also the guy who brought christie through and isnt afraid to play youngsters. If we cant get a big name like hiddink he would be a good shout for me , even for the remainder of the season

Hughes isn’t going to leave Inverness for a short term job. If he’s the answer then get him in now and give him a mandate to prepare for the CL (on the basis we win the league of course). Like others, I agree it would be a risk and could be viewed as the club going for the cheap option again.

I feel we need a statement from the club, similar to when MON was brought in. Everyone got behind him from day one.

This is not about a one or 4 game solution this is about tramping Sevco into the dust next season with no hope of breaking our Ten in a row. Even now we are a stronger and better run club we just need to start flaunting it. That starts with a new manager and a new ethos of open leadership from above. Our Board have been conspicuous by their silence and they need to start Standing up for The Whole Club including the most important part, The Fans. John Hughes is another nice guy it is time for a Mr. Nasty my vote is for Mourinho!
He would soon shut down the other half. If you don’t ask you will never know and he is touting himself for MU but if he does not get it then he might just look at a project. He is Mr. 2 years in that time we could be so far out of reach Sevco might need a Virgin Space Flight to catch us. Look what he did for Porto .

Charlie Saiz nice to see you back m8.
Some of the comments made against you last night I thought were out of order. As fans we all want what’s best for Celtic.
You argued your case well and backed it up well with stats, but it just goes to show that your eyes are the best way to see a match. Ronnie should have went, but this board really should hang it’s head in shame. To actually pick the guys assistant and coaches was a disgrace. John Collins after, the Monaco transfer, should not have been allowed back in the door at Celtic park. I feel he has been the most disruptive person behind the scenes. I remember he left Tommy Craig to take all the flak at Hibs, that’s the calibrate of the type of man he is.
Nigel Pearson does it for me to take over, though I think he would prefer a job in England.
Dunno why Davie Moyes is getting bad press from some of our fans as he also fits the bill for me.
So on Sunday do we rid the midfield of the slow cumbersome performances we have witnessed all season and start anew.
Gordon
Janko Eric Mulgrew Tierney.
Armstrong Christie Allan Roberts.
Griffiths Rogic.
Subs fill it up with youngsters let’s see what we have.
Worth a go now as the same old same old hasn’t worked.

I thought our defence played well yesterday. Boyata might not have anticipated the Brown deflection into Millers path but they dealt with everything else thrown at them. The number of interceptions and winning tackles they put in was impressive. It was always going to take a mistake or a wonder goal to beat them on that form, it’s just unlucky that we got hit by both.

The issue was the midfield had been told to sit back and hit on the counter, which is down to tactics. We can blame the board (and they do have a case to answer in regards to transfer policy) or players all we want but the squad we have is good enough to win the treble and get into the Champs League Group stages. The fact we haven’t is down to the management team.

Charlie saiz,
fair play to you it takes a big man to admit when he is wrong, agreed with most of your post in fact said the same about lenny weeks a go the only thing I disagree with is letting the Norwegian Kenny shiels stay any longer, he has to go now today or the league is doubtful, do you trust him?? I sure as fuck don’t he is incompetent and deluded and he can take Collins and kennedy with him.

short term fix for now until end of season, then we spend some decent money and bring in a decent manager, who will that be ? dot know but he cannot e as bad as what we have just now

I wanted Ronnie to succeed, but after yesterday the game is up, but certainly make sure that Collins and Kennedy are gone and never to return.
For me personally, I think they should approach Martin Jol, if he is available and could be persuaded to come. God forbid that the “Traitor japan” is eve allowed to cross the threshold at Celtic Park HH.

Torrance,

I posted something at the bottom of the blog that illustrates some of the cost of managerial failure….basically we are stuck with a bunch of players that cannot perform and cannot be easily sold. So, we need to be very careful with a managerial appointment. The current situation is just ripe for taking a knee jerk reaction and appointing the wrong person. I am in favour of bringing in a caretaker until season end…mainly because it will show the fans that the club acknowledges that the current setup is not good enough. I think that the league will be won whether we do this or not, but it would recognise the fans’ concerns.

However, I do believe that a decision to replace the current management team was taken some time ago. The problem is that they are not available until the end of the season. If this is not the case, I shall lose all faith in those running the club. The mistake was to not have brought in a caretaker earlier.
While it is easy to be wise after the event, it was clear from very early on that the manager was a dud. Right from the time that he put a player straight off the plane into an away European tie when he had not been introduced to his teammates! There were several other indications that this job was too big for him but you already know them.

I agree with the Diary and the sentiment today. What we were promised rarely happened. Super fit, high pressing, fast passing game rarely materialized. We have looked unfit and adopted a wait and see approach culminating in allowing a piss poor Championship side dominate us for most of the game. It was like a capstone to emphasize the failure of Lawell, Delia and Collins in one horrible game. So what we were promised we failed to get delivered. Add to that Delia and Collins crowing about Roberts is like Messi and we will beat all comers shows how amateur and off the cuff our management is. It is time for change. Mr Lawell good luck with the job at Sunderland I hope you get it. The football management and some players good luck elsewhere.
