Celtic Diary Wednesday November 11: Johansen Set to Sign On As Rebuild Continues

A new contract that is. Not at the buroo.

Last year the Norwegian showed that he is a talented and valuable player.  This year, its perhaps unfair to say he’s not, but he is struggling a little. There could be a number of reasons for that, although it might just be as simple as his agent explains;

“The critics are unfair. They do it as a way of getting to Ronny Deila at the same time.

“Stefan was absolutely outstanding last year. People expect him to go on the rampage and do whatever he wants all the time.

“But he is getting tougher treatment from opponents in Scotland this season. He is getting a lot more attention.”

Thats not really a surprise , and shouldn’t be a surprise to Johansen. The number ten role at Celtic is the pivot, and all of the attackng play goes through him, so by simply taking him out of the game, with either double marking or winding him up, opponents can make him less effective.

It’s up to the player to deal with that, and it may take time for him to reach the next level.

It appears that Ronny is going to give him that time, and the word on the street is he’s about to put pen to paper on a new contract. The player has complained of not being fully fit, and that his form has suffered as a result, but assures us he will be back to form soon.

Well, we could certainly  do with the player from last year, especially if there are still serious thoughts about making it to the last thirty two of the Europa League.

For those who think Deila should be out of here to give the likes of Davie Moyes a chance to fuck it up at three clubs in three years, it’s worth noting that in recent months Craig Gordon, Nir Biton and now Stefan Johansen have signed extended deals.

This may mean that they are happy where they are and can be counted on, along with Scott Brown as the spine of the new team.

Perhaps, he said , hopefully, there won’t be any big money exoduses next summer after all…

Maybe Ronny has put his foot down.

It does add a little weight to the theory that there is a rebuilding going on, slowly but surely, and there is a level of consistency now that will avoid the scenario last summer when Celtic lost three defenders who had been a major part of a record breaking back five in Matthews, Denaayer and van Dijk.

Because when you look at it, thats why the defence now is strugglng. It’s new.

If Johansen is on the “to keep ” list”, the next one on it must surely be Tom Rogic, and if you thought the Australians had maybe hyped him up a bit when he forst joined, they’ve launched him into the stratosphere now he’s actually proved he can play;

Socceroos midfielder Tom Rogic is primed for a triumphant homecoming and is intent on putting Canberra on the footballing map.

Despite being one of the last players to join the national team in camp after his duties with Scottish club Celtic, Rogic is ready to play whatever role is required in Thursday night’s World Cup qualifier against Kyrgyzstan at Canberra Stadium.

The dynamic No. 10 has overcome his injury curse of the past 18 months to electrify the Scottish Premier League with a number of cracking goals this season.

And his sublime form couldn’t come at a better time ahead of the first Socceroos game in Canberra since they smashed Malaysia 5-0 in 2011.

WA today continued…

Rogic moved to Celtic in January, 2013, but was hampered by groin and hamstring injuries.

He missed last year’s World Cup in Brazil and this year’s Asian Cup victory, but has turned heads with his impressive play for Celtic in the past three months, leading to his return for the Socceroos in September’s 5-0 thumping of Bangladesh in Perth.

Fox News Australia knows who to thank for the resurgence of Rogic;

THE Socceroos coaching staff might be 100% Australian, but there’s a 40-year-old Norwegian who might just turn out to have played a crucial role on the way to the World Cup.

Six months ago the Celtic coach Ronnie Deila sat down with Tom Rogic, Australian football’s brilliant but apparently brittle playmaker, with a simple but hugely important message.

After a season in which Rogic had played not a minute of first-team football, but instead been in constant rehab from the groin injury that forced him to miss the World Cup, Deila wanted Rogic to know that his belief in the Canberra boy was undimmed.

The results have been extraordinary — 14 appearances for the Scottish champions this year, 13 of them starts, with five goals thrown in, and his body seemingly now able to support his precocious talent.

Now the Socceroos hope to benefit from a reborn Rogic, continuing on Thursday night against Kyrgyzstan in the nation’s capital as their campaign for World Cup qualification continues.

Whether Rogic starts or, possibly more likely after his late arrival in camp, comes off the bench, he’s never been in a better position to shine on the international stage.

“Physically this is the best I’ve felt in my career so far, but I’m still looking to get stronger and fitter,” Rogic said.

When you miss that length of time, it will take a while to reach that full potential. I’m not there now, but it feels like I’m heading in the right direction.

“Having the confidence of my club manager is massive. He’s been a great influence, given me a lot of confidence to go out there and play and enjoy my football.

“When the manager came in I spent the first year at the club injured, didn’t play at all. Towards the back end of last season when I started getting to full fitness, we sat down and he assured me that I had a future at the club and he wanted to see me come in at pre-season as a fresh start, on a par with everyone else in the squad.

“That gave me the confidence to have a target in my mind of what I can do and achieve at the club. They were fantastic in supporting me over the last year and it was great to have that reassurance.

“He’s been fantastic for me, I enjoy playing for him. It gives me a lot of confidence, and makes me want to improve all of my game, using every session and every game as an opportunity to improve.”

It’s easy to forget that Rogic had played only 24 professional games before Celtic signed him nearly three years ago, and only 34 since then. That he had the mental fortitude to rebuild himself is as impressive as the creative talent he possesses.

“It’s not easy to cope mentally. Its part of football, you get dealt these things and you just have to deal with it and come back stronger,” he said.

“It’s been a learning experience and one that I feel has improved me as a person and a player. I feel as though I have come out of it stronger, it’s helped develop me further.”

He hasn’t even played sixty games yet.

Lets have that contract all ready for him when he gets back.

Speaking of geting back, another big part of the next couple of years should be Jozo simunovic. Thus far, though it really is too early to say, all the big Croatian has done is hurt himself, prompting comparisons with Derk Boerrigter, the Dutchman who has single handedly made the excess on Celtic’s insurance premiums into seven figures.

Theres a lot of faith been placed in this kid, who, like Rogic, was virtually unkown before he came to Glasgow. I say virtually unknown because someone would have known him, even if it was only his mum and dad.

If we are feeling a little frustrated by the injuries to the man, and perhaps voicing them a little too loud, a little too publicly, then it’s worth putting ourselves into his shoes and walking for a mile.

Without tripping up or falling over , of course.

Think how he feels.

He’s just a kid , adapting to live thousands of miles from home, and while he has impressed on the field, has earned a reputation of being made of glass.

Maybe we should give him a break.

Maybe I should have used a different word there, ut you get the point. Stilian Petrov was another who struggled to adapt at first, and he came good. The problem for Simunovic is the desperation of Celtic supporters to have a reliable defensive lynch pin, and thats a lot of pressure to put on the lad.

Ronny Deila has faith in him, and going back to what Tom rogic says about the manager, it’s apparent he is aware of the issues surrounding the player, and has done what he did with Rogic, and put his faith in him;

A proper look at the injury showed that it was nothing too big which was good news for us Jozo will be back after the time away with the national team.

“He has shown leadership and character when he has played with us and I think we need leaders in this environment. Of course, it has been disappointing that we have not been able to see more of him because we would like to have been able to develop a strong partnership with his and Dedryck Boyata, and that takes time.

“Jozo has gone off to join up with Croatia but he has assured us that if he is not ready to play then he will come back and we trust the medical staff to take care of him.”

I think he’s let him go home for a couple of days to chill. Which makes sense.

Ronny may attract criticism for his tactical awareness, especially in Europe, but there appears to be no such problem with his man management skills, and if he gets his players to go that final mile for him, then the team next season will be entirley diffeent from the lackadaisical and shaky bunch we’ve seen in the last few European games.

Who knows, maybe we’ll see them in the next two.

Well, maybe.

Now, I’ve hired a private detective, and in the spirit of fun associated with the Diary, i think I’ve outed one of our regular-and valued-contributors.

See if you can work out his user name on here…

Speaking to talkSPORT, Alan Brazil has suggested that Celtic should move to hire David Moyes as a replacement for Ronny Deila, now that the former defender has been sacked from his job with Real Sociedad.

Brazil said: “Celtic have struggled badly in Europe, they’ll win the league again, but in Europe they’ve been massively disappointing. He’s an ex-Celtic player. But Celtic don’t pay big money, and David will be used to getting big money, but then again, if he wants a change, then maybe.”

Brazil, who started his career with Celtic Boys Club, is an avid fan of the club, and has become disillusioned with their recent history since Deila took charge.

They are undoubtedly going to win the Scottish Premiership again, as they have done for the last four years, but they have failed to make it into the Champions League for the past two seasons, and have then struggled in the Europa League.

They have no real direction when taking to Europe, but their success depends upon doing well in the Champions League, and Deila has yet to deliver.

Now that Moyes, and ex-Celtic player, is out of a job, Brazil has suggested that the Bhoys should move to hire him, as he has proven success.

Only kidding. And I’m sure it will be received in the spirit it was intended. Though no doubt I’ll be compared to Pol Pot or someone later today.

But , of course, if Alan Brazil is backing up your views, then maybe it’s time to reconsider.

Right, let’s have a look at whats happening in the world…….there’s an international break, so lets look outside and see whats going on in the real world.

Fucking hell. He’s doing it again.

So the defence is struggling ” because they are new “?
Is it not possible to sign defenders who can impress from day one so we don’t struggle?
What’s Ambrose excuse for struggling then, or Izaguirre? Are they new?

It is a fact that when a new player signs from another country, he will sometimes need a bit of time to settle, fair enough but surely you have to show what you are all about at the same time, you know give the fans grounds for optimism.
Experienced players in our squad have displayed a lack of even the basics, Efe Ambrose and Izaguirre and Johansen to name but three.
How long did it take Van Dijk to settle in?
Jason Denayer?
They settled in instantly because they are quality players and not shite like Ambrose and his fellow comedians at the back.

David Moyes ” fuck it up three times in three years “?
You seriously saying David Moyes isn’t a good manager?
No doubt basing that on his short spell at Old Trafford, conveniently forgetting his 11 years at Everton.

Anyway I better rush and purchase my overpriced ticket for the Ajax game as I’m getting really excited because ” we can still qualify ” lol.

What does Deila have to do to convince people he isn’t up to the Celtic job, not qualify for the CL three times in a row or something? Oh wait, almost there.

There has been no progress in Europe under Deila, if that isn’t worrying people it should be.
Brendan Rodgers or David Moyes would have Celtic performing better than this clown.

Nice guy Ronny tho……FFS?

Watch Cristiano Ronaldo try to break contract with Real to join the magic hat revolution at world premiere of his movie. Exclusively in the Daily Ranger.

Sounds to me like Ronny is a perfect No2 at the moment and needs to learn a bit (tactics etc…) from an experienced manager.

Great read today Ralph very funny indeed.
Those constantly barracking the Manager really need to look at the wider picture at Celtic Europe is not the be all and end all it’s merely the icing on the cake.
Player development, future success and continuity are just as important as 6 results during a Season.
Yes they are a Barometer but only a Barometer of how you are fairing in European Competition.
Domestic competition is our bread and butter it is as important to sort that form out as it it in Europe.
So far we have not been at our best in either but injuries, form of key players and the fact we are bedding in a new defence are all relevant factors in both.
As always patience is the key with these things.
Cue the phlegm………

It isn’t the icing on the cake, it is an extremely important revenue stream that we are now seemingly prepared to forsake on the back of an experiment that doesn’t show any sign of progress now, in the near, or indeed, distant future.

Garbage. There is no 5 year plan. Deila’s proved he’s not even able to plan ahead for 5 games. Another 42 months of “progress” similar to the last 18 can only lead to near oblivion in European terms. Deila’s proved he’s not up to it.

You’re right that patience is the key; we’ve completely run out of it and he must go and go now.

Where did you pluck the 5 year plan from?
Does a five year plan include selling all our best players, bringing in youngsters on loan from Man Utd and Man City, and not getting into the Champions league?

At the end of those 5 years if we are not in the CL group stages, will it have been worth the wait? No.
I’d give a manager at Celtic 12 months to show how it should be done or fuck off.

This means that regardless of who the Manager is they are restricted in how they operate within the Market because of the 5 year Plan the Club runs by.
That plan changed when Neil Lennon was appointed we went from being a Club who builds to retain players to a Club who buys with a view to making money through selling players.
Ronny Deilahas breen brought in because his belief is to build success you need to have a good Youth Policy ie your main focus is bringing through you own talent and moulding it to play a style which hopefully leads to success.
That takes time but Ronny has time 5 years to be exact.
Whether he does enough to make that come to fruition remains to be seen.

I think we are focusing our attention on the wrong thing here.
We are arguing over something that’s not going to change this season anyway (Celtic manager)
The media are doing their best to keep us off what we should be putting all our attention on and that is the EBT scandal.
They are going to do their best to hide the full truth and let the dead cheating bastards hang on to the trophies unpunished. We can not let this happen and must stay focused on the real issue.
Celtic crisis ??? Really???…..your arse, we will be fine, sometimes you have to take 2 steps back before you can go forward.
Remember the media are doing their best to deflect the attention away from the cheats and onto us…….we can’t let that happen. We must make sure justice is done and punish the guilty

You need a mix of Maturity, skill and experience to build a strong team.
We have Henderson,McGregor,Lindsay,O’Connell and now Tierney on the cusp of first team action.
We also have GM-S Allan and Christie all yet to make an impact into the side.
With Gordon Lustig Brown Commons and Mulgrew you have experienced pros who have experienced all the things players need to progress from injuries to International Football from playing in massive games Domestically and Internationally once you can successfully blend all them ingredients it will make for a much better side.
Ronny is in the process of doing that he is finding out who can and will fit into that blend.
It takes time though these things always do and they are seldom without problems or issues.
I think we are maybe 2 good signings off seeing a very good Celtic side.
I think 2 players in key areas could make all the difference.
A quality experienced CB is a must for me.
A proven finisher of European standard is also a must.
Who knows Carlton Cole my revel playing up top in Europe for us?
Decent delivery and he might start banging a few in?
Time will tell.

Enjoy the comments, but Delilah should be given the rest of the season to improve. The team needs a leader, against Molde last week the team lost its wAy, there was no one there to drive the team forward cohesively.
We need a quality defender who has the nonce to control the defenders and midfielders in front of him, there is no talking in the present team.
Since the Qarabag game it has been obvious that Celtic are at a loss in Europe, Collins, we don’t change is a shocker, even Pep Guardiola changes.
The MSM are becoming neurotic about Sevco losing trophies, it is hysterical, everyone from MON to Stton are held up as not caring, every other Celtic supporter has an inferiority complex regarding the great Sevco
Never mind I think Ashley is about to rattle a VW cages, more jelly and ice cream on the way.

Improve in Europe? What the feck does that mean? Our European competitions are tournaments and tournaments are often down to the luck of the draw. Every year is different. One year we might draw Juventus, the next year Racing Stripe Kyrgistan. Improvement is simply down to the luck of the draw and we have been unlucky. We have held our own with Ajax and Fenerbahce and could probably have drawn or won at home against Molde. Improvement in Europe? I offer you last year against Inter Milan and away draws to Red Bull and Rumania. We’re not even finished this year yet. Our team improvement must begin domestically and then spread into Europe. Are some of you totally brainwashed by the MSM and former players who insist “Ronny must be judged in Europe?” Mebbes. Bitton, Rogic, Tierney, Forrest and several others might be the best judge of how well Ronny is managing. And Moyes? Former Celtic players who managed Celtic include Mowbray, King Kenny and Lou Macari!!!Aaarg. Please don’t dump any more disasters on a work-in-progress.A trophy is a trophy is a trophy and we’ve had no great ‘progress’ in Europe, beginning with when Big Jock didn’t do his homework on Feyenoord. Why should Ronny be exptected to do what nobody has done at Celtic since 1967! 2003? We lost and that’s not progress either. How good is it that we’re gonna let the MSM pick our next manager? Why are they doing that? Because they fear what Deila might accomplish: another Celtic dynasty lasting a decade or more, and yes, success in Europe. There is no such thing as improvement in a tournament that is down to the luck of the draw.

As for your work in ‘progress’. The disaster is already with us if you haven’t already noticed.Who is asking to get near winning a European trophy, those days will never return, but all we ask is an end to the low level performances and lack of organisation we see from Deila’s team with frightening regularity on the European stage.
By the way, enough of this media bogey man bollocks, they aren’t the ones that are damaging Celtic.

The very best of course aim to do well in Europe too.
We are a long way off the very best haven’t been since the 1960’s and not likely to be in the very near future.
We should not be basing our Season on a Cup Competition several levels higher than our own .

Charlie ,

how then ,would you rate Strachan’s tenure ,particularly re- Europe ?
He didn’t appear to do too badly against Europe’s best .
CL last 16 twice , running Barca close for QF spot , and eventual winners AC Milan even closer ( extra-time).
I’d call that doing extremely well against Europe’s best.
Ridiculously , he received a lot of criticism in his time , but what wouldn’t most of us give to be , now , where we were then.

Monti, I would take just getting into the CL, results are secondary at that point, as long as we’re banking the dough and making sure we’re not going backwards, but just able to stand still, it has got to be the goal.I sat at the Ajax game 2 years ago and watched us being played off the park and although we won, even then I said we had to have a different approach, but I didn’t envisage Deila. If we go another year without the CL money, then I would imagine the downsizing would go into overdrive as we revisit the attendances of the late 70’s and early 90’s.

Really concerned about John Collins, can somebody explain what he brings to the table? He played in France sure, but has he ever managed in Europe? His fitness dogma is echoed 100% by Ronnie already so what is the fresh and tangible contribution the man brings.
Add to that he seems to rile players in his previous roles, so I’m seeing negative only. I have never been in the Celtic dressing room, nor do I participate in any player cliques where the true feelings come out, but my ignorant impression is that he is not good at man-management, and the players need someone they trust and respect in that role between them and manager. Lennon had Mjallby, Strachan had Lenny, MON had John Robertson etc. Guys they liked and respected, the assistant manager has to fit that role and I’m not convinced Collins does.
I think if he went and was replaced by the right man this team would come together more, particularly on the European stage.

just for a moment lets forget about european football and just focus on the domestic scene.
now i am sure we can all agree that back in the MON era (excluding the cheats)were miles ahead of the rest of the other clubs in Scotland and today the gulf isnt as great…..ok so far ?
they are saying this is the best Aberdeen team in over 20 years…..yes ?
Celtic have downsized and no longer have the big name players …yes ?
most of our signings are young Scottish players with potential which means the rest of Scottish clubs should be pushing us hard….yes ?
so why is it all of a sudden that we should be beating every team in every competition with ease ?
is this not an agenda by our media to make us feel that winning domestically means nothing because there is no rangers ? …of course it is and its total nonsense, so why are we believing it ?

going back to MON, even that great team with king Henrik and co still lost in the cups to ICT and hibs, under WGS who still had quality in his teams lost to Clyde, st mirren, falkirk, hearts and aberdeen. and we know that NL lost to ross county, kilmarnock, hearts, st mirren and morton……..
so why is it that no matter how well Ronny does, its meaningless ? why ? because the media tells us so ?

ah but Europe i hear you all screaming at me so ok lets take a wee look at Europe…….
going back to season 84/85 to 88/89 ….this is when scottish football was still strong and competitive , how did Celtic fair then ? 84/85….knocked out in the 2nd round
85/86….knocked out in the 1st round
86/87….knocked out in the 2nd round
87/88….knocked out in the 1st round (centenary year)
88/89….knocked out in the 2nd round
right through till 2000 again didnt do anything in Europe with a few years of not even qualifing.

with the great players we had under MON , for the first time in a long time we could compete with the big boys and it was great and for years after that we have still been punching above our weight but when you sell all your top players year after year its only natural that you fall from the standard that is required at the top.
NL knew what was round the corner for Celtic and he got out and then in comes our new manager in to a hostile environment with a media hell bent on making his life as hard as possible.

Ronny has a massive task which will take time but i think the way he has us playing in Scotland is excellent, almost winning a treble in his first season and he has made the gap between us and the rest of scottish football huge which in reality it should be alot closer but that is down to how we play now with a tempo that the other teams cant live with and every game we have 70% possession home or away which is fantastic.
we have a young group of players who are not ready for europe yet but they will be soon.

for me its unbelievable the treatment Ronny is getting and the blame for things that are not his fault. we have a manager who is 100% committed to our cause who will fight our corner against the media and the rest of the shite.
we are not doing well in europe because our players are not ready yet, not because of our manager…..we have a gem of a manager and soon we will all realize this….just give him the time and your backing.

fuck the media and their agenda against him

player development for 1 but also the tempo we play at is faster than ever. his commitment and fight will push our team on and in scotland i think he is showing how good he is.
in Norway their league is very tight so its alot harder to win most games.
what is Ronny’s win rate in Scotland ?

Well, after my posts not appearing yesterday (RALPH!!!) I know it’s probably a waste of time trying to post since this is obviously an exclusive site where only Monti, Monti and err..Monti can post freely any old mince.
I made the suggestion yesterday based on Charlie’s fund raising efforts that we could institute a kind of swear box whereby every time Monti cusses or greets about Ronny he has to put in 10p…we’ll be able to buy Ronaldo within a few weeks!!!
Did anybody else get the irony yesterday that sevco are quoting SFA rules in their attempt to extract themselves from big Mike’s iron grip? There’s shameless bare faced cheek and then there’s sevco the club of dignity and tradition.
Right, if ma post disnae appear I’m away tae CQN to bad mouth E-Tims. lol

@ewanbhoy…that was 100% on the nail. My thoughts exactly…although we know who’s not gonna agree !!! The ant-Celtic campaign is being waged on different levels, from every angle as part of the “Scottish football needs Rangers” agenda.
Sometimes it’s obvious, sometimes it’s a wee bit more subtle, but it’s always there.
The other day they reported a machete attack on a guy (who posed in photos holding a knife against his own face), an attack that took place in the street. For some reason they put “—– who is a Celtic fan”. Now what the f*ck had that to do with the story? Would it have mattered or been mentioned if he was a Doncaster Rovers fan? Or a Coronation Street fan? I read the article twice, and there was absolutely zero connection between the attack and football, zero. In fact he was wearing a blue and white trackie top. It seems that they will associate any bad story with Celtic just to keep the bad vibes heading in our direction while failing in their duty to report the real scandal that has taken place in Scottish football.
God bless Ronny and may he prove the doubters here wrong and get it right up the Free (Mason) Press. HH

I also believe that we are getting a bit shrill about Ronny. Let’s see how this season goes. A domestic treble is a real possibility and even a double would be good. I doubt we will get through to the next round of the Europa league and that is very disappointing, although much less than terminal. We ought to be qualifying for CL or Europa every year and learning from it. The players need to be good enough to play a high press and ball possession style of football and for away games in Europe we need pace up front for breakaway football. Simple to write and difficult to do. Takes time and on our budget we need to get it right when we choose players. In the full knowledge that we may well sell them one at a time hopefully to EPL clubs for big money to maintain dominance in Scotland, which is the key to getting access to Euope. New manager we can consider after next year’s euro qualifies if we bomb out again.

I signed the petition on sporting integrity. I think it’s really important we all sign it and send it to 10 friends to sign too. I
Am also going to write to the UEFA, SFA and Celtic FC to ask that sporting integrity be upheld. If Oldco keep these ill gotten honors then we know for sure that it doesn’t matter what the various incarnations at Ibrox do, those in power will turn the other way and point to Celtic and all the problems we have in their eyes. Lance Armstrong, Ben Johnson, Juventus. All sanctioned for sporting integrity including Legia Warsaw and Sion. What makes Oldco different?

‘Because when you look at it, thats why the defence now is strugglng. It’s new’.
Its also because weve moved from 2 centre halfs who could pass a ball to having two who cant and Blackett as backup who looks like he’s never seen a ball far less pass it.
But still we play the same tactics. Full backs pushed on, centre halfs 30 yards apart and no sign of a defensive midfielder doing any defending.
And thats before we even concede a corner.

Improve our young players domestically, where they will gain confidence and learn to win. This will spread to Europe and we will start surprising folk there too. Ronny must be judged domestically then down the line, in Europe, but don’t let the MSM, Alec McLeish and others tell you we must judge Ronny only in Europe right now. What are they afraid of? I don’t hear anybody telling Warburton he must be judged in Europe because he is only turning over part-timers with the largest budget outside of ours. There is an anti-Ronny agenda outside our club and it hurts me to see so many of us Tims jumping on that bandwagon. Time will tell and then it will tell us that patience pays off.

The thing about Deila that seems to be dividing people,is the question of where we see ourselves in Europe.
Some seem not that bothered about Europe while some ( Charlie Saiz) is creaming himself about a treble?
I don’t get it, Deila will be successful domestically, it was only the establishment that denied him and us the treble last season.
I want the club to be loud in the CL mate, it is the greatest club competition in the world and I want us in there kicking ass!

That will only come when the board put eleven players on the park who are the real deal, with the right attitude!

Charlie Saiz

That you trolling again Monti 😉
That aside the primary objective for any Celtic Manager should be the League Title.
Then the Cups.
Then as a sideshow to entertain and treat the fans a good run in Europe where possible.
We are not good enough to win either European Trophy that’s a fact btw.
A treble is a very difficult thing to achieve so difficult in fact only 3 Managers in the history of Celtic have achieved it.
Ronny Deila set his sights on one last Season …some laughed, some sneered and some like myself thought cool this is what we should be looking to do EVERY SEASON.
He did not come in and say we should be playing in the Champions League every Year but he did state that is where he would like to see us playing.
Taking nothing for granted (you should try that Monti)he knew it was not beyond us but not a foregone conclusion either.
First Season straight in with the Double narrowly missing out on a treble.
This Season still on for a treble top of the League and a Semi due soon.
Europe has been difficult very difficult as some of us kinda suspected it would be.
Lenny built a good side problem is they kept selling the best players from it..even though we had the CL millions they still got punted.
They did not replace them with similar or better players?no they brought in potential and decent SPL talent with a view to building a side for the future.
The CLub changed tact you evidently have not kept up.
2012-13 was a peak a freak of a Season NOT the norm.
2013-14 we were rank in the CL lucky to even get there struggled past Elfsborg ans Shakhter Morton.
Finished bottom of the Group with 3 points.
The writing was on the wall many of us said it we need to invest in quality.
We didn’t and as a result a new Manager came in and is now trying to change the whole approach to suit the Boards approach.
It’s going to take time.
There have been shit results yet in on the Domestic front Deila still managed to get them playing and winning.
Some of us never expected it to be easy.
I don’t give two fucks what you or anyone else thinks to all that Monti that’s just how I see it.
Deila always needed time he still does I for one will afford him it.

Delbhoy

People can say all day about Europe and were not competing because of down sizing, no competition , a new defence , missing Virgil, blah blah blah it doesn’t matter , the teams that have pumped us in Europe over the last couple of years eg malmo and legia to name but two are man for man worse teams than ourselves but have beaten us easily because of a complete lack of organisation from us and because they have savvy managers who can set up a team properly. Look at the malmo manager when we were on top in the first half of that game, he made a few adjustments and we were screwed. Instead of realising this and changing Ronny and jc sat on their hands clueless and before we knew it we were beat.

Charlie Saiz Monti et al, there is a concerted attack from outside Celtic to get rid of Ronny D. The MSM are running stories consistently on Europe, Davy Moyes and whatever to deflect from the real story which is Sevco . We as Celtic Fans need to unite against this treatment of our Manager. At this time it matters not what our own views on him may be we need to unite behind him to fend off this blatant attack on Celtic it is not just about our Manager. Read the article in Celtic News Now on the insidious attempts by Sevco to get their man onto The SFA board.. This is what we should be concentrating on not Ronnie OUT.

Andy

I keep seeing the same comments, here goes: Yes our defenders are making school boy errors. Not keeping an eye on the ball when they should. Not following their man etc., but the MSM have them so nervous I honestly am not suprised. Complaining about our performances against Molde a team who gave Ajax a run for their money and who beat Fernebache is pointless they play less games a season, just finished their season that starts in April and have had over 2 years to gel. Furthermore that baby faced assassin learned how to play mind-games from the best. Ronny Deila laid all his cards out in the recent talk with Chris Sutton. We do not have money to buy the finished article and therefore we will see players struggle on the odd occasion (especially presumably when the whole country has told them if they screw up the manager they love who believes in them could get fired). As for the tactics I do not believe that Ronny has struck the right balance that will allow Celtic to develop world class attacking players (worth more money) and winning matches in Europe. As far as I’m concerned do whatever is necessary to get to the Group Stages of the Champions League (I couldn’t give a flock what it looks like) and do the same to get 6 points in the group stages. Then sure go out and attack any team you want “The Celtic Way.” At least that way we won’t have to sell our best player every season. (Be under no illusion though the reason we are so concerned on creating attacking footballers is because they are worth more money). Our domestic league is hardly cutting it as our water, forget about any other sustenance butter in otherwise. So it’s Champions League or selling our best player, anyone who argues about this is not of earth. We have bought 2 defenders who are not the finished article and quite frankly I don’t even know the ability of one of them to understand a Belgian with a Manchester twang or a Honduran that sounds slightly Weenie. Give the lads a break. I have given them until March to stop making silly mistakes (except Efe who should be kept to show the under 20s how not to defend). Umm. If I think of anything else I will let you know, but please chill with putting all this pressure on these “unfinished footballers.”
