Celtic Diary Saturday November 7: Du vil være ute av her før meg

Thats what Ronny Deila should be saying to his players today.

Look it up.

I had to.

There’s a clue in the picture though.

Opinion is divided amongst the Celtic support as to whether or not the club should continue with the current manager. More seem to want him gone than want him to stay.

If Deila wants to swing the support back onto his side he needs to do a number of things, and do them quickly.

First, though, he needs to let the players know that they may want to cost him his job, but they will be gone before he is.

He will know where the problems lie, and he will know who-or what -is causing them.

If he doesn’t, then it is a problem and he should be asked to leave.

But I’d wager he does, and he needs to take firm, decisive action, and because questions are being asked about his own future, he needs players around him he can trust to perform.

And if there is a bad apple in the barrel, then it must be discarded to prevent it from spoiling the others.

That could mean an unfamiliar line up, but it would also bring with it an unfamiliar attitude.

A will to play for the jersey.

We saw an example of it in young Keiran Tierney.

That attitude is also infectious, especially when it’s in a match.

In fact, it wins you matches.

If, as i suspect, Ronny does have a long term plan, then this weekend is the time to start moving it ahead of schedule.

You can tell the Norwegian is hurting from his reactions in the press. Not Mowbrayesque, as some have said, but not far from it.

Though it appear he saves his , er, louder, moments for the dressing room;

“I was angry and very disappointed. It’s a lack of determination.

“That is something that Scotland is known for and what KT (Tierney) showed on the pitch, that’s real Scottish mentality. When you go back 20 years and think of those players – they are f*****g like this [punches hand]. That’s what we need.

“You are not a football player if you can’t defend. It’s as simple as that.

“Not everyone can be tight all the time but you have to find your way to defend a goal.

“We need more with the attitude KT had because that was brilliant. That’s exactly what I told them in the dressing room. How an 18-year-old boy had shown the desire we need.

“That was at the bottom of it. That’s something we need more of. We need some character, leadership and determination.

“There were 10 men in the box at the second goal, so it’s not about that. I don’t see teams cutting through us to make clear chances. I don’t see that.

“We need more physique there. We need more determination in the box at set-plays

We need more determination full stop.

There’s no heart in the team. There is no-one willing to make the jump from “someone needs to do something ” to “I am someone “

Until Ronny has a core of six or seven players willing to go that final round for him, the round that separates winners from losers, then he will struggle.

But right now, he , and the players who still give a toss, need support.

Starting tomorrow.

Right, how to lighten the mood…..?????

As is usual in the diary, when things are depressing  I always find it comforting to laugh at those less fortunate than our good selves.

I’ve not commented much on the big tax case result. Rangers won 2-1 when the verdicts were counted up, but it seems the late away goal counts for much more than double.

They were found guilty, and as a result, we now have confirmation of what we knew all along. They cheated.

but they had help from the SFA, and perhaps all this talk of title stripping is simply playing the ball, and not the man.

Pressure first of all needs to be on the SFA. They sanctioned and supported all of this, and even tried their damndest to get them off the hook when the scandal came to light.

When the fourth round of the cup is upon us, supporters of all clubs must boycott all of the games.

If they haven’t all quit before the threat is carried out, they will after, when the eyes of the sporting world are on them.

As opposed to what they see themselves, posted by the Celtic Network on twitter

See ?

I bet you feel better already.

My mates wee boy feels good as well. He saw Santa Claus beating up a Second Rangers fan outside a shop yesterday, and was amazed as he only posted the letter that same morning.

Though I came home early last night, as the barman wouldn’t give me another drink. too Drunk, he explained.

I’m going back in today when he’s sober. And show him it was , in fact, a beer i was looking for, and not a young Irish lass…

Speaking of drunks, and i think he must have a fondness for the vino sometimes, given his ramblings. Radio Clyde’s Voice Of Alzheimers Hugh Keevins has more or less guaranteed that Ronny deila will probably win a European trophy, several trebles and probably the boat race, Wimbledon and the Open golf as well;

He told Scotzine magazine , in a podcast;

18 months on from appointment of Ronny Deila as Celtic manager, we now see the folly of that decision, says Keevins

If Ronny was looking for an endorsement, then that from the man who once criticised Dr. jo Venglos for not signing a proven scottish talent like John Spencer, instead of the unknown Lubomir Moravcik, must make him feel better.

Or smile at this, from Darren O’Dea, showing that not all former players don’t care about title stripping….

Do deliver on Saturdays? Still waiting on a package from the

Bring him home!

Actually, that might not be a bad idea…..

Feeling better yet ?

How about this, on this day in 2012 ?

This is from a former secretary of The West London CSC which I think is a great take on the current situation at Celtic Park.

Once again, I feel that pen has to be put to paper to highlight the failings at Celtic Park. sure we have players who are not up to scratch, the coaching staff seem below par and there does not seem to be a lot of fight on the field. The blame, however, lies for me fairly and squarely on the shoulders of the Board.
When TFOD went bust, instead of attacking, this Board went on the defensive. When there was an opportunity to build and expand with no pressure, this Board decided to maintain and repair only. If even that. The club has not even stood still, it has gone backwards.
The Board has appeared to have forced out a good manager to bring in and adequate (and probably cheaper) one. The transfer policy has been to sell our best player every season, and hope to find someone of similar potential. When we spent any sort of money, it has been a disaster, generally speaking. Boerritger, Ambrose, Boyata are prime examples of this. Griffiths is a pleasant exception, although he is not top quality.
Look at who has gone recently: Forster, Wanyama, Ledley, Hooper, Virgil. We have made signings of lesser quality and there players who come and are never seen. Why did we buy young Janko, a full back, and then play Blackett out of position? why does Rogic not play?
I am losing the thread here. The point is that we are losing quality and not really attempting to replace it. We should have been building a powerful squad not only to smash Sevco, if and when they survive and reach the top tier, but to retain our standing and prestige in Europe. Group stages in the CL will recover the outlay on 1 or 2 good players, or the retention of 1 or 2 good players. Imagine this team:
Forster (Gordon), Lustig (Matthews(), v Dijk, Simunovic, Ledley; Wanyama, Brown; Mackay-Steven, Johansen, Armstrong; Hooper.
Subs: Boyata, Biton, Griffiths, Rogic, Christie.
While I applaud the signing of some younger players, the strategy is negative and does not reflect what the fans of the great club deserve.
I could go on for hours. As a fellow Tim pointed out, not so long ago we were beating Barcelona.
So the message to the Board must be: forget forever balancing the books, forget the attempts to join the Establishment with your Lords and tory MPs, etc. GO BACK TO BEING CELTIC FOOTBALL CLUB. something we can and always will admire and love!!

We have the answer to all of this between us.
It’s simple buy them out and run it how WE SEE FIT.
It only takes a small amount of outlay from a great many people to combine their resources and become something massive.
There are a great many of us out there.
It can be done.

Tell me now Charlie , name the chairman and chief executive of this new regime. What experience do they have of running a big club? What will there Political Beliefs be . Will they be real Celtic men ? More to the point what will there ambition for the club be . Fan shareholders and proper representation on the board I have no problem with but I would not want some of the nutters who post on this site anywhere near the boardroom at Celtic . Leave Fan ownership to the great unwashed on the South side and push for proper boardroom representation for the fans with regular open reporting of what goes on at that level so that we can see exactly what is behind the decision making processes. We need to know if the manager is working with one hand tied behind his back but we won’t know that without more clarity from the boardroom.

Everything transparent, fans informed of decisions before they happen.

Make the Football Affordable
With the net and communications the way they are now it can be achieved with more numbers than ever.
Money that’s what it takes and a will to see it through.
There are a great many of us out here as one we can achieve so much more.
We did this you need not worry about anything coming from the a Dark Place they simply could not live with a Supporter owned and backed Celtic.
They don’t have the numbers that we have.

It’s all about opinions but those two’s Celtic time has seen them play in different systems and with different quality of team mate.

Do you think Hooper could play in the current team and have the same success as Griffiths because I don’t.

I do however believe Griffiths could play in the team Hooper was in, with at least the same success.

Imagine this team: Forster (Gordon), Lustig (Matthews(), v Dijk, Simunovic, Ledley; Wanyama, Brown; Mackay-Steven, Johansen, Armstrong; Hooper.
Great team, would have been lovely to keep them, but does anyone actually think Forster, Virgil, Wanyama or Hooper would have stayed? Hooper and Forster left to further international ambitions, Virgil and Wanyama wanted to leave the summer before they did, so that was inevitable. Only maybe Ledley wanted to stay though couldn’t agree a new contract and we were offered silly money for a guy who could have agreed a Bosman!
I am as frustrated about the strategy as anyone, but it’s not like we have much choice – we attract unknowns on the basis that they will eventually (if they do well) get a move to the English Leagues – we’re a stepping stone, much like everyone but Barcelona and Real Madrid are. Players won’t stay with us like Sutton, Larsson, etc – the rewards down south are too great, and we can’t compete with those clubs for more established players.
That said, we have spent money on some real s***e and our scouting needs to be sharper. Or, as I have suggested before, change the balance of the strategy back to how it was in Lennons early time ie mostly british based with a few overseas. Gradually we’ve moved away from British players or focused on SPL players instead (which is similar to WGS period – scouting Naka, Boruc, etc before most players end up coming from Hibs)!

Ok Mr Poet, I have this to say…. It is more likely that Scottish players will stay in Scotland. So let’s do it with home grown players. What did Neil Lennon deliver? A bunch of pricey flops a few players that could not wait to get to England and some very nice results for 2 years. I would prefer to be patient and get a team of Scots/Irish who are happy in Scotland and have played together for 3 years. As long as our nation’s coefficient doesn’t drop too dramatically.

Reply to  Andy

Andy, I agree. Ronny is bringing in home grown players which is good. But we are in flux, we need our foreign contingent to deliver the goods too. I hope that in the future most of our team are Scottish. That’s not being racist or anything, I couldn’t care less whatever our players are (except girls, there I draw a line)as long as they bust a gut, (or chest?)

I’m not opposed to Nir Bitton because he is a smart man and not whining to get to England. I am happy for a player from anywhere as long as they give 100% and aren’t looking for the exit door every transfer window. I’d even put up with an American. (Andy is half American)

The team are going backwards under Ronnie. I n all my years watching Celtic I have never witnessed so inept performances as the two against Molde. These guys are from the 2nd-3rd tier of European football yet they beat us comfortably home and away(5-2). Without so much as a wimper of a fight. No pride, no spirit and no backbone, with the single exception of an 18 year old. That sums up the whole affair. The team had something to prove after the first game and we got the answer on Thursday night, ALL OF ABOVE. HH

I think we’ve had our expectations raised by one excellent champions league campaign that resulted in the fantastic memory above… Remember how we were pumped silly the next year? And in the two years before that glorious group stage, Lenny at first failed to even make the Europa league, and then failed to get out of the group the next year! I say give him another year. A coach with more experience needs to be brought to in to tear the defence a new one, then tell them how to actually defend under our system.

That need not happen Gerry we can go about this issue (and it is an issue)an entirely different way.
If everyone of us unite and put x into a fund we can buy them all out, control the Club and it’s destiny as we all want and see fit.
We could employ intelligent people who are good with finances to run it without a Bonus culture and then as a result perhaps return the Club to it’s original goal and ethos.
This may sound far fetched but it is achievable and given the huge numbers we have around the World the cost could be minimal.
The choice at the end of the day is simple..

From Downsizing the club to the cost of matchday tickets, in relation to the standard and quality we are being asked to watch.

Ross County player wants to go 1-0 up & then see Celtic fans get on the back of their own players. Everyone outside The Celtic Family would love this! I admit I’m naturally an eternal optimist, I believe in being faithful through & through (this is not blind faith), we sing “…win, lose or draw….”, remember, having the reputation of being TBFITW was one that was hard earned – 30 / 40 years ago (when 25k at Paradise was a really good attendance) we used to sing louder in defeat than in victory (just like the Bhoys & Ghirls of today who travel to Europe……incl ma wee Bhoy). 5-1 defeat at Ibrox…fellow founding member of Rogan&Roche (Soton) CSC, Big Kev, and me were literally last men standing with scarves held aloft. Why? Because we ARE ‘more than a football club’. Our group of Tim’s never left before the final whistle.
Fractions are appearing, we all have opinions, we can’t all get to games….but every part of The Celtic Family must stick together and get behind the present incumbents at The Famous Glasgow Celtic. Victory always gives more pleasure after experiencing the bad times….Ralph, do you remember the auld Bhoys on the R&R bus telling us youngsters that we didn’t know how lucky we were as they talked about the 40’s & 50’s?! Keep The Faith everyone, the away support always do….and I know they will be exemplary during the minutes silence tomorrow. Felt compelled to put down some words after seeing ‘booing’ & ‘Celtic fans’ in same media sentence during the week…..& because I nearly turned off PC stream before final whistle of recent Europa League games! You see that ‘I am someone’ type of player – he has been discounted from being bought by the board.

Generally speaking, leaders of men tend to be pushing into their late 20’s, are experienced and as such command a healthy transfer fee and top wages.

The kind of Chris Sutton and John Hartson type players are not what the board have phrased as ‘intellectual purchases’.

Our board look at the transfer fee, signing on fee and wages and will not authorise a purchase unless they have been convinced the pay back will exceed the initial cost.

That is pure and simple wrong.

You can’t put a price tag on what leaders do in a dressing room and on the pitch.

Danny P,
I agree with you, Martin O’Neill bought a few leaders in his time, Sutton, Lennon, Hartson types.
All cost a lot of money, but did it work? Yes.
Was it successful? Yes.

Are you all as fed up as me with ex Celtic players now paid as pundits saying that Oldco “won it on the pitch”? This is like saying Lance Armstrong won it on the bike. Or Ben Johnson won it on the track. Now I hear Ladbrokes are making noises about allowing a proven set of cheats to keep the spoils of their cheating. This is astonishing as is the lack of comment from officials at the SFA and UEFA. Both organizations impose sanctions for banners and flares at games, surely sytematic cheating over multiple years proven in court would be something worth punishing? Make no mistake sporting integrity will demand that Oldco honors are nullified and the runners up who played by the rules awarded the good medial a or the yellow jersey. So ex Celtic players please shut the fuck up.

I’m assuming Moonbeams and the people who benefited from tax free EBTs will either pay back the loans or get a healthy tax bill from HMRC or get fined or jailed for tax avoidance. That would include Dave King and Paul Murray oh and Campbell Ogilvie. Thank all the football Gods that we didn’t go down the EBT road. One very sound Board decision at the time.

The loans are due from the estate of the recipients when they die. Not that it matters as they are to be repaid to the Murray Group who are also in liquidation.
The tax payable is due form the employer, Cheats FC (IL), not the individual.
Having said that, as the Scheme was illegal HMRC can go after imdividual directors and their assets. Mr King and the other blazer chasers should be getting a little twitchy.

The answer I believe is in OUR HANDS Drewster.
I don’t know the exact figures of how many Tims follow Celtic Worrldwide I have heard and read around 9 million estimated by the Club.
Now if the actual figure is above half that say 5 million then there is one simple solution.
We all agree to buy out the existing Shareholders.
5 million of us buy £20 worth of shares each that’s £100m in shares.
Celtic Market Cap (Companys Total Worth in Shares) currently stands at £67.92m according to the Stock Exchange
We could buy the lot clear the Co-op(£14m) and still have £16m to spend on Transfers straight off the bat.
Debt Free Completely owned and a Team reinforced for Europe.

This is doable btw we have the numbers.

The players you mentioned there, if you look at what has replaced those players, we may be getting closer to the answer.
The quality is not like for like.

Monti, jimthetim, good afternoon bhoys!! Peace brothers, this is the calm AFTER the storm. This is “the bad moment” that every club goes through at some time in their history…look at Milan for example, they’re absolutely unrecognisable, gone are the Maldinis and Baresis. That doesn’t mean that we have to be content with the way things are going with our team..in fact the anger (but not insults) that Monti and many others are voicing might in itself force the club/management/players to get the finger out. They must be aware of the vocal backlash that is coming from the supporters. This is one of the advantages of today’s social media, you can get your voice out there IMMEDIATELy, nae envelope and stamp needed. Now, unless our Board are totally stupid to a sevco degree they’re gonna make some changes to our club’s policy (and I don’t mean sacking Ronny), maybe change the management assistants, scouting staff and free up some funds to get some proven players (defenders top of that list).
If they ignore the shit storm that’s brewing and growing stronger with every no-heart performance then they risk their own comfortable seats up top. Celtic fans are patient, but even patience has a limit and the one thing that we all seem to agree on, the common ground if you like, is that things must change, things must BE changed.
The big defect in the current policy of buy in, develop, then sell on at a profit is that the players being bought in know that it’s a perfect stepping stone for them to the EPL..they don’t give a monkey’s fart for Celtic’s history, traditions or faithful fans..they just want a shop window so their agent can get them the move to the promised land of megabucks. That kind of player is never gonna bust a gut during a match..he’ll do the minimum he feels to achieve his ambition…but he won’t run towards a brick wall let alone through it.
The solution is the bringing through of young boys like Tierney and creating a backbone, a nucleus of a team of guys who know, feel and live Celtic on the park. I believe Ronny knows that and is trying to do it…but it can’t be done too quickly..if you put 5 young boys in there and the team gets humped regularly 7 or 8-0, you can irreparably damage the confidence of those young players. The only way is to ease them in and gradually replace the mercenary driftwood that we currently buying and paying wages to.
That’s why I back Ronny and why I think this will all come right. Maybe these defeats will actually strengthen his clout and give him the opportunity to wield a big stick in the dressing room and let certain players know they are not good enough for our club.
Anyway, as I said at the beginning of this post, we are all hurting but we are united, we are all Celtic.
See that Monti? Not a fucking sweary word in sight!! lol

Martin O’Neill brought in ready made players proven in their Careers.
He spent close to £30m building his squad.
Sutton £6m
Hartson £6m
Lennon £5.75m
Valgaeran £3.7m
Thompson £2.75m

A squad that already contained Larsson Mjalby Stubbs Lambert and Moravcik

We won’t be seeing these days again for a long time not with this Board.
Can you imagine what the above players would cost us now in the current market?

Devoy45

By the way, all the mention of Moyes, Lambert, WGS to replace Ronny if and when. Why not a manager we could afford who would consider Celtic a step up and has a proven pedigree with the fans? One who would probably never be criticised on this website or anywhere else: Henrik Larsson, King of Kings? He has succeeded in Europe.
Ross County tomorrow. I think we need to freshen things up and send a message to our many under-performers.
Bailly
Janko/Boyata/Ambrose/Tierney
Bitton/Allan
Forrest/Rogic/Commons
Griffiths
Trouble is, we have nobody reliable at central defense.
subs: Armstrong/Mackay-Steven/Fasan/Izzy/Ciftci/McGregor/Nesbit. Assuming Simunovic, Brown and Mulgrew not fit. I think Mulgrew with Boyata would be our best available defense.
Hearts and Aberdeen winning today will give us just a 3 point lead over the Jambos. 2-0 to the bhoys. C’mon Celtic

Good afternoon Charlie. Yep, “those were the days of our lives” right enough. But we really, really need to get at the very least two quality, proven defenders in to plug the bleeding of goals. That’s assuming that Simunovic is not a crock and that young Tierney continues with the great quality that he has already shown.
That at least would give us a base to build on and maybe spread some confidence through the other players while we gradually introduce the new young home grown talent.
As it stands we’re stuck in Groundhog Day, just repeating the same disaster again and again.
For me sacking Ronny and putting in another guy would put us even further back, then what would the solution be….sack that guy and the next guy? Meanwhile the Board sit in their ivory VIP seats untouched?
I honestly believe Ronny will succeed given some more time.

So do I but harking back to the days (the only time in our entire history) when we bought in for big money does no one any good.
It was a one off and we spent 10 years paying it off.
I would drop Lustig into the RCB slot and bring Fisher back to back Janko up.
Less running for him and who knows this might keep him fitter for longer?
1 CB and 1 quality target man and we won’t be too far off.

AntonDeclan, yep! When all around you lose their heads that’s the time to think calmly. Rome wasn’t built in a day. It’s easy to talk about patience, but much much harder to put it into practice.
If certain players (we know who they are) had even 10% of the passion that the fans feel for the club, we wouldn’t be suffering this. HH

having read all of the above, thank God we are not in Sevco,s position.
There has been a lot wrong this season even during the Qarabag game at Parkhead problems showed, only a last mnute Boyata goal got us through that round.
WSe require a defensive coach, Mjallby would be ideal, J.C. and JPK do not seem to bing much to the pasrty.
Delilah should sort out he team, he should play two forwards. stop the full backs from bombing forward. Our problem is the lack of a cohesive defence, We should bring in someone that can lead the dressing room, Broony seems to lack that need.
Even in the bad old days we supported the team, we should allow Delilah till the New Year, or the seasons end before choppiong him

You know Alec Ferguson came from a small club (Aberdeen), and had won the title with them but that stood for nothing when he went to Man U…..his first 4 seasons he won nothing….their fans screaming for him to be sacked…..football fans are fickle and extremely impatient, but it wasn’t long before the likes of Beckham, Butt, Giggs, the Neville brothers, Scholes and many more came through the ranks to become world beaters and it didn’t cost Man U a penny……..think about it……what could be round the corner for us. ? Just look at KT and other players improving leaps and bounds….
As we all saw again on Thursday was that we are a long way short still but I think it was a lack of experience that cost us, also our defence has to be sorted but potentially, we have some great young players who are only going to get better and all these experiences in Europe will teach them alot.
We, as the best fans in the world supporting the greatest club in the world, must be patient and let this team grow and develop……i know we have doubts and want improvement straight away but give it time, give Ronny time…..he could become a great for us the same way Ferguson became a legend for Man U

I remember being raging after the first game in Norway and waited for revenge for two weeks and actually believed we would get it.
When a carbon copy was served up on Thursday a strange calm came over me at full time.
I remembered when I was in my early teens in the early nineties, and talk of mark gegryse(?, exactly), coming to parkhead was exciting. I never learned more in maths class than looking at the league table back then and working out how we were gonny leap frog Motherwell, Aberdeen for a decent finish. 1998 was like my Lisbon, still will never understand jock brown element lol, and the naughties brought some real pride, got to watch a Celtic legend in MY time in king henke.
In recent times, Neil Francis Lennons time as manager meant more than results on the park to me. Here was a man who had bore more hatred than any of us at the hands of them, and never shirked like a lot of the people at the club today, he truly embodied what it was to be a Celtic man imo and will forever be a legend for that fact alone.
Today, as it stands, we are with another manager, another system, and I feel that the current misgivings of our club in Europe can subside, as I see a set-up where we possibly could see a young Celtic minded team come through.
For all the deadwood that are gone, boerigter, balde, the young Scottish prospects are being put out to loan and kept in touch with the club, Henderson, Findlay, Christie.
I feel like we have fell into the trap of expecting instant karma as john Lennon once coined, some people seem to forget that Hooper, ledley ect CHOSE to leave our club, and I honestly feel that if we give this man 2 more seasons and stop judging what he’s trying to build against what the hun and the daily ranger keep quoting, we will be into something we haven’t had in decades, a team of our own.

Tony mac , I am totally in agreement with you, I just wish more of our support could have the patience to give Ronny the time he needs……lets not forget he has come in after we have sold so many top players which haven’t been replaced……Ronny will develop our youth and in time create a team that we are all proud of.

Yet, whenever anyone puts up a case for wanting rid of Deila, you pounce and tell the blog that they are wrong and we are all living in a fantasy world….

Then that gets me nostalgic and I listen to sad songs.

All…. In many organizations of this world (including governments) there is this thing know as checks and balances. It is my opinion that we as fans should hold the board accountable. The board holds the manager accountable, the manager holds the players accountable. It is not a fans job to harass a player out buying Tomatoes. It is our job to create banners, write letters, refuse to buy pies etc.
