Celtic Diary Saturday October 24: We Are Celtic Supporters ! Aren’t We ?

Yesterdays diary was fairly short, but the replies were , well, lengthy. A number of them went astray, but they are all back where they should be now.

As ever, the quality of most of them was high. If you haven’t read through them, get a coffee and do it.

( Unless your name is monti, and if it is , check your emails.)

Why should you read the replies ?

Because they are indicative of how the support feels this morning.

Some want Deila out. Some want Deila in.

And some want him to shake it all about.

I’ll go with the latter option.

Not based on the picture , I feel I must stress.

Thursday , by general consensus , showed that maybe one or two players can be accused of not playing for the jersey ( I counted ten at least- Ed )

Of those who started, only Stuart Armstrong and Deydrick Boyata were Deila’s own signings.

Maybe he is aware of the lack of passion within the players, on the park at least, shouting at the coaches when you’ve been pulled off

oooh

doesn’t count.

Incidentally, Commons has apologised for his outburst;

Embedded image permalink

It takes a man to do this. Well done, Kris, now can we move on. The video of his rant shows him saying ” They’ve had enough ”  Then he points to the fans and says “Listen ”

Without knowing what was said before, and what was said to him, its important not to take that out of context, but what should be noted is the body language of John Collins, who apears to be completely aloof.

Which, I fear, may be the problem. Maybe not the whole problem, but certainly a key factor.

Anyhow, I’m rambling again.

Of the eleven who started against Molde, only two were Deila signings.

Ryan Christie and Scott Allen.

Add to that James Forrest, Liam Henderson, Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay Steven.

And chuck in Leigh Griffiths , Tom Rogic , Keiran Tierney, Ade Nesbitt as well.

And Nadir Ciftci, Saidy Janko and  Darnell Fisher

We’re around eighteen months into Deila’s tenure. About half the time it should reallistically take to build your own team, hopefully a team who won’t spend their long nights staring wistfully south hoping to jump on the gravy train down there full of mediocre mercenaries who have already got everything they wanted, except for medals.

And be honest, thats not why they came into the game anyway,

As a supporter, I want players who grow into the jersey.

Players who want to sit their grandchildren on their knees and tell of great victories, and not of great cars or big houses.

An example ? Okay.

Bertie Auld.

As his wife once told a fan, whom Bertie was showing his European winners badge to;

“See when he dies , I’m selling that fucking medal” ( I’m paraphrasing, but you get the point. )

So do you.

Ronny must be given the time to try to create another Bertie. Or a Billy. Or a Jinky.

Further thoughts on this come from Tictactic;

After all, this split in the support has the mainstream media doing something else that begins with M

The MSM, pictured here before their christmas do last year;

They want him out, which is enough of a reason itself for us to want him in.

By the way, maybe we should get this guy in if we want passion on the park…

Right, on to a new section of the diary.

You know when you are watching a game on the telly, and they tell you about other games to come ?

Keep an eye out for the next Rumour mill, currently in its third draft and with a QC.

It’s explosive, it’s dynamite, and it might just contain the story that makes us all go “Aahh, so thats whats up. ”

Follow us on twitter for more details. @etims,net

I don’t have any input to the twitter account, which is why sometimes the account differs in content from the diary or other articles.

I have my own account, which usually makes even less sense than the diary @Richiestoke

Something else is also in the pipeline, well, to the extent that it’s being discussed at Celtic.

Maybe the club is about to remember it’s roots after all, and take bold steps towards filling the ground again. I’ll keep you informed on that one, but if it happens, then Celtic will truly be more than a club.

Heres a clue… this is a graph of what someone thinks are the average ticket prices throughout Europe.

Away from all that, mind when i was up in Dunoon the other week ? I chapped the door of the house i grew up in, and asked if i might have a look around, for old times sake.

I was told no, and advised to fuck off,  which leads me to think my parents could do with learning some manners.

Oh, almost forgot.

We’ve signed carlton cole.

I take it Cole was signed by Lawwell as a doorman/bouncer or is the clueless one going to use him as his plan Z ?

Charlie Saiz,
I like a player who has something to prove, like big Sutton when we signed him from Chelsea.
Cole will give us something to aim at for a change, but the question is, will Ronny play him with Griffiths alongside him, or keep him on the bench?
Feel a bit for Ciftci though….

Competition for places is a healthier position to be in than pinning all your hopes on one man Monti.
Cole might just give Ciftci a wee extra surge?
Time will tell like you I will always afford a new guy that time.
Clean slate Carlton show us your best sir.

Its saturday and im still disgusted with that result and performance, the managment team are still a joke, they are still a prile of fannies when it comes to perfecting a system that is effective in europe,we are still streets ahead in scotland but even then its not down to tactical genius its more down to the opposition being pish, something better get done quick or after xmas we will be seeing a very empty celtic park, the rank and file fans deserve better than this shit we are getting dished up,even over in the dark side they are laughing and they are deid FFS. COYBIG.

Ralph; Fair do’s on your comment today, very constructive after the despair and frustration of Thursday nights defeat, I wont dignify it by calling it a performance, though the appalling conditions had to be a factor, I know, it was the same conditions for the Molde players but Celtic were all over them in the 1st 10 minutes and then after the goal went in they were really up for it and feeling that they could get another result like Fenebace.Only the players can answer/explain such a collapse and the only way they can atone for it is by beating Molde at Celtic Park on the 5/11/2015, then also beating Ajax at C.P. not easy but should be possible for a team that wants to show the fans what they are capable of and that is prepared to play for a manager who was given a mountain to climb when Lennon f****d off in a huff(btw I was one of his biggest fans right from the start of his playing days even though he should have got shut of that useless t**t Samaras years before he left, 18 months satisfactory performance in 7 years at Celtic Park; and Lenny could never make a substitution before the 89th minute)
Sorry if this may seem a longwinded rant, but while I feel all the anger and frustration at Thursdays performance that the Ronnie Out brigade feel, the reality is that imho Lawell will keep him until the end of the season(and anybody who thinks the board will get shut of P.L. must believe in Fairy’s)It is my firm belief that we must stick with Ronnie at least until the end of the season, he is no Mowbray.
For Ronny’s own sake he must make sure that Commons never kicks a ball for Celtic again(again, I was one of his biggest fans until he started working against Ronny a la Billy Bremner and Brian Clough at Leeds United)yes, he got the goal but until then and after he scored he was completely anonymous which has been his consistent performance since Lennon left, rubbish, apart from an odd goal, let him take Stokes, Ambrose plus Mulgrew(although I think Charlie will stay )off to Bolton with Lennon if Bolton can afford even one of them and presuming Lennon is going to survive at Bolton.
Rumours are starting to circulate about a split in the dressing room and seeming to blame Stephan Johannson for it, but imho it is this Commons/Stokes clique that will destroy Ronny so therefore he should nip it in the bud before it destroys him; there are enough good youngsters to replace these ageing prima donna’s. Hail. Hail. G.B.R.D.

I have, by and large, stuck by RD when sometimes it would’ve been easier to criticize, especially when one bad performance follows another, but I still think the guy could do a job. I think his and the squads main problem is Collins, wherever he’s gone he causes strife, if he was made of chocolate he’d eat himself, even when he played for the hoops he never had me on the edge of my seat when all around were calling him world class, when he left it was under a cloud if I recall, as I said, since his coaching career started he doesn’t fit in wherever he goes, get fuckin shot of him and I guarantee you’d find a happier camp.

Don’t try my patience further even entertaining John Hughes. I know feelings were running high but ffs.

The trouble is our new defence which keeps changing and it’s not like teams are cutting us open, it’s just that we are giving goals away which is killing us in Europe.
If we sort the defence then we will be ok.
What I do not like seeing and I am seeing alot now in our own supporters is a supremacy mentality and the over reaction when things don’t go our way is not the Celtic way IMHO.
Win, lose or draw……I may be old fashioned but I still believe that mentality is what sets us apart from the rest.
Remember the Huns during the 90’s….god I hope we don’t become the thing we hate.
Now I’m not accusing anyone of anything but lets not turn into a lynch mob….angry and aggressive…..wanting blood….because of some bad results.
No need to panic and there is no crisis either.
Lets remember what it means to be a Celtic supporter….we have heart and soul but humble too…….we want to win but we shouldn’t demand it especially in Europe.
I know most of you will think I am talking alot of shite but it is how I feel and what I believe and when you look at the big picture and see what we are trying to achieve, which is develop our youth and create world class players like we used to do…..and this will take time but for me Ronny is still the man to do it.
I will be taking my youngest daughter to her first game tomorrow so I am hoping for a good game and a positive reaction from our fans to the team and manager.
Hail hail

You aren’t talking shite at all, you are a Celtic supporter and your input is always welcomed.
I do disagree with you where Deila is concerned though, I think the side is directionless and it is extremely concerning the results in Europe under Deila.
can I ask you what positives are to be found with Deila at the helm?
Is it not his job to build a side while at the same time getting results?
The Celtic we all witnessed on Thursday was a disgrace! HH!

To late Ewan there are a rising number who think exactly like they did..success can breed it’s own problems.
Whilst the performance and outburst during by Commons were a disgrace to the Jersey some of vitriol towards the Coaching staff has been no better imo.
There are no guarantees in Football,Celtic teams have had bad starts to Seasons before and no doubt worse in the future that’s life time some acknowledged this and took the rough with the smooth.
Fuck me top of the League in 4 Competitions still and only 50% of the Europa games played with 1 from 3 lost and we have tubes screaming for the Managers head?
Some have become so like those they claim to despise they don’t even realise it.

Rehabbing first things first I hope your wee classier has a great first game and gets hooked for life!
Now as to a supremacist mentality I am not really seeing that but I do think that we are entitled to expect a level of. Professionalism and expertise commensurate with the money being spent on players coaches and management, I, like you have witnessed many defeats that have still made me proud to be a Celtic fan with passion, commitment and skill evident even in defeat. Under Ronnie there have been too many times that has not been the case and I for one don’t think that hearing “we just didn’t turn up is acceptable coming from anyone connected to our club. Ronnie had to bear the bulk of the responsibility for that inn my view,

No Monti if I am honest you never entered my mind.
However since you asked I shall explain my thinking..
Lustig and Izzy were shockingly poor at Molde moreso than the Central Paiing I thought who were left so exposed by them and the 2 B’s in front.
Simunovic if fit has to start playing and I felt Janko and Tierney deserve a start.
This led me to thinking out of the 2 Ambrose has the experience over Boyata so I put him in.

Sorry to be late to the debate, but looking at the management team at present should prevent future catastrophes like Thursday occurring again.

IMHO:

Lawell & Co: They are there to balance the books amongst other issues. I believe that keeping us afloat, considering we are emerging from the biggest slump in world economies in our life time, is thee most important factor in football. I just look across the city to justify my statement.

RD, JC & JK. What bothers me with these guys are performances like Thursday night. It is possible for two or three players to have an off night, it happens in football and at Celtic like every other team, however when you have nine or ten players apparently having an off night or not turning up, then you have a problem with management.

Players: On Thursday night, IMHO, we played too high a line that left our defense exposed. This is a question of instruction not ability or commitment. Possibly the players don’t understand what they are meant to be doing, but I would suggest that it is more a case of playing patterns and shapes, and forgetting that there is an opposing team who really want to win. Again IMHO, I think that Common’s rant is proof of this, “they (the fans) have had enough, listen”. this translates to your tactics are shite and don’t work. If you are at work and your manager changes how you and your mates do things, this will lead to conflicts and arguments, footballers are no different.

The time to prevent future disasters is now, we have little or no competition domestically, we should sort out the management team or replace them.
