Celtic Diary Tuesday June 2: Boyata Signs Four Year Deal

First monday of the month meant that the Lennon CSc held it’s meeting last night, and as only two of us turned up, we selflessly had to drink everyone else’s beer, which in turn is why the Diary is a little late this morning.

Other news first, and it appears that Bilel Moshni, the Second Rangers player who lashed out out motherwell’s Lee Erwin has already found another club.

However , the rules prevent him from talking about it.

Speaking of offensive behaviour, there’s been a statement from the club, not about those events, but about the Offensive Behaviour Bill;

CELTIC has opposed the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012 from the outset as evidenced by our submission to the Justice Committee in 2011.

We believe that the Act has the potential to discriminate against football supporters.

Celtic continues to oppose the Act and, as a contribution to the Scottish Government’s review of the Act, met recently with the Scottish Government to explain our position.

We proposed that at a minimum certain offences under the Act should be repealed.  Celtic also recently met with Fans Against Criminalisation to discuss how to take this issue forward.

We wait with interest the findings of the forthcoming review and trust that it will be the full, transparent and in-depth review that football fans expect.

Living in the south, I’m not ebtirely sure about how this bill works. Legally, one section of society cannot be subject to a law that doesn’t affect another section of society. By definition, the law is discriminatory.

So if there is a campaign, join it.

Oh, look.

Anyone who has bought a new strip may be interested in a reply from the club about the quality.

Returns are at normal levels, we track daily and are running at below 1%. If we were c. 3% or more that would be alarming.

It may be that the examples we have seen were isolated instances, but if you do have a problem with the new kit, email JPTaylor@celticfc.co.uk and he’ll pass on the complaint to the right people, wrapped around a brick.

He didn’t say that, but it just woke you up, didn’t it ?

Dedryck Boyata has signed a four year deal, and Michael O’Halloran, of St. Johnstone, tried desperately to remember the man he played alongside at Bolton.

“Dedryck is a quality player. Celtic have done well to sign a defender of his calibre. I played with him at Bolton for a spell in 2011.

“Let’s just say he is a big, athletic powerful type of player and is great in the air.

“His sheer physical presence and strength will be there for all to see. He cuts an imposing figure at the back and every Premiership forward will find out soon enough for themselves the hard way.

“I can see why Celtic have gone for a player like him. He’ll be viewed as a direct replacement for Jason Denayer and can slot into that defensive role perfectly.

“Boyata is also strong, quick and fit so there are many similarities between the two players.”

He doesn’t remember him, does he ?

“Dedryck has a lot of experience and he will be a good fit for Celtic. He is a great trainer and will settle in well with the Celtic lads.

“He is a quiet kind of guy off the park but has a good nature. He was a good player to have around in the Bolton dressing room and he is an all-round good guy.”

Nope. not at all.

Elsewhere, and Bilel Moshni nearly never joined the club at Ibrox , you know.

SOUTHEND United’s Bilel Mohsni could be heading for another bust-up — but this time there will be no red card.

For the fiery Frenchman, who has been sent off five times in 73 games for Blues, is being lined up to take part in Ultimate Warrior Challenge’s next fight night at Garon Park in June.

And the 25-year-old is keen to step into the cage in Southend.

“If they ask me to fight then I will because I’m a good fighter and it’s something I enjoy,” said Mohsni.

“It was good when I went to train there a couple of seasons ago and I went to watch the fight night they had last weekend.

“It was very enjoyable and, depending on what’s happening with my football, I would like to be in the cage the next time they put an event on.”

Mosnhi, among a number of players released from Ibrox yesterday, has now left the country and will never play in Britain again, according to Stuart McCall, his mentor and manager, who himself will discuss his future at the club this week.

We hear he is considering an offer to join the cast of a remake of a Scottish tv comedy,

where he could meet up with a former Rangers colleague also trying his arm at a new career.

Come to think of it, in the Rab C Nesbiit programme, the Glasgow scruff had another son called “Gash “, the punchline to which kind of writes itself,

with McCalls men now consigned to another year on their journey, the press have started their Armageddon nonsense again, and this will no doubt snowball.

Football finance expert ?

Really ?

Whats hurting the fourth estate, and the Ibrox club,  is the realisation that not only does top flight  Scottish football not need them, they actually need Scottish top flight  football.

You doing anything this weekend ?

If I was you, and I lived in Glasgow, it might be a good idea to rent a dvd, or get that room painted.

Why is this getting a mention, I hear you ask..?

Have a quick glance at who is on the main stage at 14,30, an event I’ll miss as my clock only goes up to twelve.

We really weren’t paranoid enough, were we ?

What punishment did the club mentioned receive for operating a discriminatory employment policy for all those years ?

And why ?

This is a very good start to the Summer.
Well done all concerened always good to get your business done early in the window gives them time to settle before the big push in Europe.
This guy might prompt Virgil to stay put for another year I fancy.
Two big Bhoys at the heart of the defence now.

Delighted with the signing of Dedryck Boyata, I hope we Cam keep Virgil but at least we haven’t dragged this need for replacement defenders out.
We need to get all our top targets in early before these qualifiers.
Ronny Deila has completely turned me around and I look forward to the seasons to come.
Looking around the squad now we are looking strong, Lustig coming back will be a big plus, Boyata and Lustig as a centre back pairing?

Deila still thinks there is a chance of Mitchell Dijks arriving so that would be good if it happens.
Time to get rid of the deadwood, Zaluska, Boerrigter, Pukki,Stokes, Balde and Ambrose.

Dear Peter Lawwell, Can we get a major striker please?
Pretty please?

Sevco?
Get it right fucking up YEEEEEEEEZ!

Like all new arrivals at the club I’ll wait and see how he settles in our team and what he contributes to our push for silverware and European participation. In the meantime all I can wish for him is every success and he hope he enjoys wearing the sacred Hoops!!

Are the “423 Lambegs” really that bad that they have to be preceeded by LOL ?
Er, ‘Well,(6-1) we’ve been laughing out loud at their favourite football team for years and now at their Tribute Act since 2012 and still got plenty of laughs to come, so, although I think it’s a really inane term and don’t use it, I’ll make an exception here and end with, er, ‘Well,(6-1) LOL.
HH
And thanks for all the daily laughs you bring to us, Ralph, as well as all the worthwhile Celtic news. Keep it up, Pal, you’re one in a million.

Doesn’t matter what happens now with sevco, whether they come up (notice I didn’t say “back up”), whether GASL puts money in to them or not, whether they get Jurgen Klopp as manager or any even more unlikely scenario.

They are fucked now and forever more.

I’m glad it happened in my lifetime

Their punishment was 1967 and we all know what happened then and who won all the trophies.
Welcome to our new addition to the squad, I wish him every success and well done to the management team for doing the business early, keep up the good work, maybe a good striker next.
Another great Diary, keep up the good work my day would not be the same without my daily dose of the Diary. Ralph you are correct we are no paranoid enough. HH

With Boyata in and Ambrose Mulgrew,Lustig andpossibly Wilson coming in I think we have plenty cover now at CB.
If we can secure a decent LB and a quality finisher then I think we can be fairly optimistic in Europe this year.
Out’s for me would be:
Zaluska
McGeough
Rogic
Wakaso
Tonev
Boerrigter
Balde
Pukki
Guidetti
In’s
Cierzniak (Free)
Dijks
Finnbogason

Ralph

I read today’s Diary and immediately threw my bag of pills right out the window (hope the drug squad were not hanging around). I knew I had found a much better cure.
“with McCalls men now consigned to another year on their journey, the press have started their Armageddon nonsense again, and this will no doubt snowball.” + article by the “expert”.

Reading on, I rose from my bed and walked and not a bearded Nazarene in sight. I have The Diary on repeat prescription now and it looks like this could add several years onto my life. It certainly has produced a miracle cure today. Now before any readers look to commit hara kiri at my revival (ain’t I a stickler for exactitude), it will not include mental or intellectual restoration. However, while I have some semblance of sanity, I would like to congratulate the club on two fronts. First, well done for moving quickly and professionally to secure a potential replacement for Jason Denayer – though, like Gerry, I am very much a “wait and see” man when it comes to new or promoted players. Secondly, for continuing to oppose the ridiculous “behaviour” bill which for me is a truly annoying black mark on the CV of the SNP.

So, Ralph, thank you for another gem among gems. They have been a delight since the Deila depression lifted way back. If you had only listened to an old fart on day one you could have avoided all the trauma you went through and enjoyed the transformations as well as the outcomes. Never mind, it has been a joy to have you back in the land of faith and hope. One thing I will give you, during it all your love never waned. Thank you for another season of diligent delving, intellectual insight, rational reporting, rumour rumblings, astute argument, quirky quizzes, comical caricature, pictorial perniciousness – even permissiveness on occasion – and hilarious humour including blue-belly banter, jokes, jibes and jelly with the ice cream. It has been a time of transition and triumph, a season to savour with another fear-free future to look forward to. For me the sign of truly great journalism is when the writer can hold the reader’s attention even when there is nothing to read – unlike the SMSM that can write nothing when there is plenty out there. The Diary does this day in and day out during the close season when the very reason for its being is not there, Celtic playing football, yet our attention is gripped and our enjoyment fulfilled each and every day. Thank you!

Here’s to tomorrow and being back on my feet again. My rear end is killing me typing this in bed. I guess that’s what happens when everything you have to say is in the wind that comes out the wrong end 🙂

Had to check it wasn’t the first of April, Ralph. Orangefest in a city which tries to portray itself as welcoming to everyone. I find it a totally bizarre event to be staged anywhere and I’m sure many people will be giving Glasgow a miss. This can only be bad news for the reputation of the city, anyway you would think so.Shame on the council for agreeing to this crazy event to take place.
Back to the good guys and the progress we are hopefully making. In a ridiculously short close season and with some players taking part in international matches it is to be hoped that the squad is ready for the challenges ahead in the cl qualifiers. I’m sure guys like Armstrong and Mackay-Stevens are champing at the bit and the squad is better prepared this time. It’s good to see the forward planning coming from Ronny Deila and we will take our place in the group stages. It’s going to be an interesting summer if we get one.

@mattgallscot,
I saw that video last night and I’m still laughing every time I think about it. i’ve just realized what one of the main differences is between us and the Orcs, they don’t have a sense of humour. i mean surely they can see the funny side of the last 3 years…no? Oh well ho hum. H.H.
