Celtic Diary Wednesday March 4: Guidetti Going? Gordon Staying.

a few weeks ago, an Archbishop -I think-claimed that Yoga was the work of satanists, so I figured that was just the job for me. I’ve no aspirations to ascend to heaven, as I wouldn’t know anyone when I get there, so I decided i’d best get to know the people I will be spending eternity with, although its only two nights a week at the moment.

Its strange how they get you, though.

After a couple of hours of torturous exercise, the stretches were okay, but trying not to stare at ladies bottoms was tricky, you get a fifteen minute lie down, where the instructor sends out relaxing vibes…

Try to imagine something red, the colour red…..

Image result for red sunset

now think of green, something pleasant….

Image result for fields and trees

Now I want you to think of something orange

Image result for orange walk

Thats how they get you. The Archbishop was right.

( He’s rambling again-Ed )

Look, its a diary, not Newsround.

John Guidetti has been talking to the dutch media, and they asked him about a possible return to Feyenoord. The Swedish carthorse replied;

 “Nothing better than that.

“I want to go back to Feyenoord, and perhaps as soon as possible.”

Fair enough, if you’re not happy John. Just fill in this form, and let me know the cost.

 We’re here to help.

The story about Craig Gordon and a possible move to Chelsea, however accurate it was, has provoked a reaction from Ronny Deila.

Send dem til å knulle Off .

Although this was somewhat watered down by the press. For obvious reasons.

“I can’t sell him I don’t want to.”

“I want him here for the rest of his career. Hopefully, that can happen.

“I think he’s a great goalkeeper, and he’s a man we want to keep at the club.

“We will do everything to keep him here.

“I understand why other clubs are looking at him because he’s had a fantastic season.

“Myself and Peter Lawwell have already talked about this.

“It’s also about what Craig wants and, hopefully, he wants to stay here and be with Celtic.”

The word is that Gordon is happy at Celtic. He is very touched by the support he has had since the club gave him a chance to get his career back on track, and again its an indication of this new breed of signing that may not have been Celtic minded when they joined, but have come to appreciate what they have here.

 Deila moved on to give us a quick rundown on how the squad is shaping up for tonights game against St. Johnstone at Celtic Park;

“Izaguirre is out, even though he wants to play. We don’t take any chances with him.

“If he gets injured again, they may need to operate, and we don’t want that.

“Kris Commons won’t make this game, either, but he should be okay for Sunday. It’s just a nerve injury.

“Stuart Armstrong will be okay for this game. It was cramp on Sunday. It was a sign he’s not strong enough yet.”

Not reading too much into that, but how come he’s not on first name terms with Izzy ? Or last name terms, even. The Hondurans full name is Emilio Arturo Izaguirre Giron.

Everydays a schoolday.

Notice how he states that Armstrong isn’t strong enough yet, which again points to the high standards of fitness demanded at the club these days.

But this press conference remark shows how seriously he takes the condition of the players, when he was asked how they will prepare for tonights game;

What we have worked on is lying on the couch more! The players were very tired after the game and Aberdeen were fresh.”

Ronny is sounding more and more relaxed with his role as the season progresses, and theres no doubt he’s had to be strong to get things the way he wants them. But its worked, and everyone deserves credit for that.

He continued, paying his usual bland respects to tonights opponents;

“They have very good spirit in the team and they’re hard working.

”They’re very clear in their play and will be hard to beat.”

Actually, we need to be careful tonight.

With the adrenaline from the Inter and Aberdeen games gone, and the two cup mathces ahead, this game may not have the appeal to the players it should have. Thats not blaming anyone. Six points clear at worst tomorrow, so there may be a temptation to take the foot off the pedal.

In fact, it could be argued that in pre-Ronny days, it wouldn’t be a case of taking the foot off the gas, but some players might not have even got into the car.

Publicly, at least, Ronny and the players are as focused for tonight as they have been for any other game;

There is still so much to fight for. We are working here on the culture to be 100 per cent focused every day.

“There wasn’t even a hint of a celebration among the players after the Aberdeen game – the manager was celebrating more than them.

“They were very tired. The amount of metres and sprints they did was unbelievable given they played three days before.

“I am really looking forward to the St Johnstone game now and expect a good performance.”

Should be interesting to see how Celtic approach this game, because St. johnstone are a difficult side to beat, and will be bouyed by their recent win over Celtics next three opponents, Dundee Utd.

If February was interesting, March promises to be enjoyable. Two more-possibly even three-steps could be taken towards that treble, and that would leave only a couple more.

And then , with that out of the way, theres the UCL qualifiers to get ready for.

Although Deila has already started;

“We have increased the high intensity running by 30 to 40 per cent since summer, which is a lot.

“We want to be direct, create, penetrate, be a high pressing team, so you have to run and you have to run quickly and you see that in the stats and in how we perform.

“Rodrigo Palacio, the Inter striker, ran for 1250 metres against us at Celtic Park at high intensity. That’s an incredible number. But on Sunday, Gary Mackay-Steven ran 1300m against Aberdeen.

“We now compare to the better Champions League teams in terms of our figures and we have to find benchmarks. Where are we good? Where can we be better? That way we can be as prepared as possible if we get to the Champions League.

Now, you might argue that running around a lot, albeit a lot quicker and for longer, isn’t going to win games, but thats only a part of it;

“In my experience, teams that say: ‘We are going to train twice as much as before and be really fit’ are almost always relegated because you lose focus on the important things.

“For me, it’s what you do in training. We don’t train more than before but hopefully we train better and we give more in that hour-and-a-half every day.

“You must always add things to your game. If someone asks which manager I want to be like. I want to be me but I can add something from him, him and him to make the best of the person I am.

“It’s the same for the team. We have a style of play but can get things from other teams to find the benchmarks but you must know the references of what it means to be fit.

“It’s easy to say that to the other players. If a player asks me why he is not playing, I can show him the numbers. If he is running 600m and a guy in the team is running 1200m, what does he think of that?

“I only wish I learned this earlier in my career as a player. I was always strong but I was too heavy. My body was 92 kilos but I got down to 85.7 kilos and suddenly I was sharper and quicker around the pitch. I ate too many carbohydrates before.”

All is well at Celtic, and its actually difficult to remember a time when Tims in general were as contented.

However, if we think we’re happy, have a look across the river, and it seems the hordes of Satan are even happier.

Thats because some chaps who were on the board when the original club went down are apparently about to take over at the new club and work their magic again. For some reason, their fans, the media and the authorities are rather pleased about this.

Word is that Mike Ashley may now give up his Ibrox franchise and hand it over without a fight, and go back to concentrating on Newcastle, where the media are a cut above the quality of their Scottish equivalent.

Embedded image permalink

The way should be clear for Dave King and his merry men to take over. Just as soon as the remaining directors have borrowed enough money from Ashley to pay themselves and the players this month.

Then Ashley will demand his money back, forcing them into liquidation.

Then they’ll set up another club, debt free, and the whole shennanigans will start over.

Surely that wasn’t the plan all along, after all, Mr. King is an honourable man….

Although company Law prohibits a director serving in a similarly named company within five years after liquidation of the original, there is an exception which says its alright if the second entity has been around for over a year.

BDO, the liquidators of Rangers, will be looking at events closely, as no matter how you dress this up, its fraud, and its fraud on a massive level.

The PAYE is also due on the 19th of this month.

No wonder the board are all buggering off.

The press continue to champion King, just like they heralded Whyte, Green, Ashley and all the other behind the scenes investors. Its only two years since they raised millions via a share issue, and no-one seems to be asking where that went.

Chris Graham seems certain all will be well;

Embedded image permalink

Well, almost certain;

Embedded image permalink

The incoming custodians  are asking -not directly as yet-for the beleagured support to invest again, via another share issue.

Surely the fans  won’t be that stupid ?  Again ?

Well, it depends how they are asked, I suppose.

An Opportunity To Invest In Your Club!

We , the new owners of Rangers,  are offering you the chance to be a part of the resurgence of the worlds most successful club.

You, the heart and soul of the club, who has been steadfast and loyal throughout these dark days, can now make sure that those days never return.

Invest in Rangers! Invest in our future together !

We have reached the end of the tunnel, and together we must stop Celtic from winning  ten in a row, and restore  our mighty institution back to where it belongs, at the summit of European football.

 But you must act now.

Without fear or hesitation

 Rangers needs You!

NB, supporters are requested to bring cash only, and leave it in a bag, with your name and number on it, under the marble staircase,as no-one is daft enough to give us a bank account.

We’ll get back to you. Promise. Fingers crossed.

And we’ll do an orange away top as well.

The best thing that can happen for Deila is we secure the treble.
Then no one can question his approach.
Media, fans or former players no one.
Sure some will decry “ah but there was no real opposition without Rangers”.

Bullshit winning trebles is never easy we have failed with absolute shite Rangers teams in our midst.

As proven so many times in the past and present any team can win a Cup Tie.
Inverness Caley Clyde Morton to name a few recent ones involving us.
Much better Celtic sides have failed to win them.
No for me if we pull this off I think he can be vindicated for the early problems both at home and abroad.
Change takes time and is seldom straightforward.
If we secure 3 wins in our next 3 games I think the players will get a massive injection of belief it can be done we could well be on the cusp of something very special under Ronny.

We can do this.

Justice was served on Rangers, they were liquidated!
All this shite we’ve had to endure since has been shocking, predictable and wholly unacceptable to any fair minded fan of Scottish football.
The complicit and corrupt SFA has overseen the worst case of fraud and blatant flouting of the rules in Scottish/British football.

What has happened here is a rancid sectarian football club has managed to wipe away 140m of debt and attempt to convey the myth that they are the same club!
It’s astonishing what the authorities have allowed them to get away with, even nimmo smith’s ” no sporting advantage was gained ” pish is incredible, by buying and paying players they couldn’t afford was all about sporting advantage ya prick.

Now all we are going to hear about is them becoming ” the top team in Scotland again ” shite.
They shouldn’t have been allowed to get a licence to play league football until every creditor had been paid every penny.
In the juniors for 3 years to gain the accounts required.
Secret agreements and the authorities wanted to keep them in the SPL or first at worst.

When the clubs said no to newco, they should have insisted on them starting in the junior leagues.

Hopefully Henderson gets a start tonight for Armstrong as Ronnie freshens things up after a difficult couple of games and a harder one on Sunday looming. Maybe even give Guidetti a start so Griffiths is fresh as well, with the likes of Stokes/Forrest coming on for Johansen et al if we get a lead.
How long until the lost in translation defence comes out for Guidetti, still he is our player for now so lets use him if he can do a job; Sunday must have embarassed him and he’ll want to put it right.

Don’t think it’s Batumi, we played them in 95 and Jorge Cadete who is at the back of the photo didn’t sign until 96. No idea who it is we’re playing although Kosice might be a good shout.

Regarding Guidetti and Feyenoord, it is no different to an ex-Celt saying he’d love to come back to Celtic Park. He had a happy time at Feyenoord and if anything you have to admire his honesty. I have been watching him closely and he cares about the games he plays in and rarely see him stood around with his hands on his hips, disinterested. He is a passionate bloke who wears his heart on his sleeve and if anything that should appeal to most Celtic Fans. At least he wasn’t like a few players we could mentioned who turned up and said immediately how much they’d like to play in the English Premiership. For Guidetti to say he’d rather be in Holland than the riches of the Premiership shows he’s more interested in being happy than having money… where’s the sin in that?

Monti

Reply to  HoudiniBhoy

He could have shown professionalism and say he won’t discuss his future until the end of the season?
While he’s playing with us he shouldn’t be talking about other clubs, at best it’s unprofessional.

Just for the record, I don’t want him to stay at Celtic and would be underwhelmed if he did sign.
I don’t think he’s all that special.

Away draw at Kosice. Some very dodgy refereeing in that game too; I mean, imagine sending off Simon Donnelly that known axe-man.

Agree with Monti re Guidetti and would add even when he was scoring goals I wasn’t convinced. His fitness is a big issue for me and indeed he has not made any inroads even with Ronnys strict regime.
In the diary Ralph has called him the Swedish Carthorse which describes him perfectly, although the guy has ability he’ll always struggle which is a shame. The rest of the players have responded as seen with Matthews Biton Griffiths for example so I’m afraid it’s bon voyage from me !!!

Reply to Charlie from the other day:

We are a CL team, too many look across the border and think that we need those huge sums to compete. The big leagues get the big money but year in year out we are round about top 20, financially, in Europe (due to the fans, not the TV money the SPFL/sky shortchange us with). I don’t believe its too much to ask for us to reach the last 32 in the CL.

I don’t think the Europa is beneath us but there is a huge gulf in quality between Barca/AC/ Ajax and Salzburg/Zagreb/Giurgiu and our performance was well below par, 8 points is borderline to qualify and out of 20 groups, only Dnipro and Basel made it out the group stage with less points while three teams got more points and didn’t qualify. What should have been our easiest European group stage in history, turned into a struggle. It’s good that we are chasing a treble but I would not trade Seville for a trip to Hampden.

Charlie Saiz

Fair play Doc that’s how you see it.
A treble is a rare beast at Celtic to pass one up on a European pipe dream is ambitious to say the least.
Seville was great a real achievement but the bottom line is we won fuck all that Season.

But plaudits.
We win a treble those are plaudits with something to show.

Europe is the gravy for me personally , a chance to pit ourselves against some real quality and a chance to dream for a few months.
We are a good bit off winning anything in Europe O’Neil spent a fortune building the last side that did.

That’s not a coincidence btw spending money on genuine quality does improve your chances.
About time perhaps we did and gambled a wee bit.
One thing is for sure though the new approach lends itself for us to compete both home and abroad without having to alter the approach.
Hopefully this approach is more successful than the last because I think we underperformed on the Domestic front under Lenny whilst putting a good show on over the piece in Europe.

Doc

Reply to  Charlie Saiz

Seville was the second best time I have had with Celtic (stopping 10 in a row was the best) and while we didn’t win anything it will be with me forever. Europe has to be the yardstick we measure with, when winning the SPFL gets roughly the same money as a CL group game, it’s clear that we have to achieve in Europe, rather than just make up the numbers, to further the club. While we don’t have the cash to compete teams from the big 5 leagues, we should be able to match, at least, teams from Holland, Portugal, Greece, Turkey et al. I’m not saying that we have to win the CL but those at the club must have ambitions that go beyond a domestic treble.

I don’t want us spending like a Brewters Millions/Champions League scenario as we are a club thats well off financialy, every other club in the country, and most European teams, would love to be in the financial situation we are in. We could do with spending a bit more, on occasion, to support the manager and freshen up the squad.

We weren’t at the races in the second half and felt a bit flat and lifeless, a bit like when we dropped points at the start of the season. Did take some goal to beat us though. Was a bit gutted after the game but thinking about Seville, while typing this, has cheered me up.

I think the changes were forced changes myself Honest.
When you are playing so many games in such a short space of time then some players are going to feel the pace more than others.
Particularly if you are playing a system that demands greater input to play it like the one we are now deploying.
Griffiths looked knackered.
Mackay Stevens looked tired when he came off and having to drop Johansen deep due to resting Bitton caused the pressing aspect to suffer at the front.
Stokes looks a shadow of himself and I don’t think Matthews going off helped matters either.
WakaSso is never a LB from that showing in my opinion.
He made Efe look like Paolo Maldini before he switched to the RB slot.

Well, that’s us brought down to earth with a bump. We started bright and then slipped and slid all over the place. Fair play to St Johnstone, their goal was a belter and they played some nice stuff (when they weren’t chopping and blocking).
I’m sure tomorrow, when my disappointment and depression have dissipated, I’ll see that this wee reminder that talking publicly about a treble just sets us up for a fall on our face…better to be a quiet wee Ninja assassin than a screaming axe murderer!! Hail hail.

If we were to lose any of the next 4 games after Aberdeen it would be tonights I would have chosen.
We miss fired all night, it took a quality solitary strike to win it and to be fair to the team they have put a fair bit of energy into the last 10 games or so so a bad result was probably due at some point.

4 days rest and we go again hopefully with a bit more spring in the step and a good bit more quality on show than tonight.

Incidentally our pitch looked a mess to me tonight.

Charlie, I’ve eaten so much humble pie in the last month I’m sick of it. I have plenty to go around though for all the “Treble Talkers” on this forum. Let’s just shut up now and take this one at a time. Last night was more Mowbray than Big Jock. We’ve had far more than a treble of shite performances at Celtic Park this season and this was one of them. Pathetic. And to Saint Johnstone—at home!

Charlie Saiz

Reply to  Devoy45

So is the treble now off because of one poor performance in 10?
Apparently not.
The treble will not be won or lost due to people discussing it on the Internet or Papers will it?
No it will be won or lost due to what happens on the field of play.
They are as rare at Celtic Park as a Board Member who wants to spend money on proven quality Devoy.
I take nothing for granted when it comes to Celtic I have said it many, many times as a Lifelong fan any cunt can win a game of Football.
Celtic have no divine right to win anything.

No team does.

However that aside perhaps last night was a timely reminder to some of our players that slacking off or lowering the standards now set in the past few weeks will not help in regards to winning anything.
It’s their drive, performance and attitude that have put them in a position to win a treble in March.

All teams experience ups and downs that’s Football that’s what drives us all from despair to ecstasy from one week to the next.

By the way best Celtic side in history blew plenty trebles with below par performances and under our Greatest Manager so don’t be so down on this side bud.
We could have as easily won that game last night as lost it.
Griffiths Armstrong Bitton Ambrose Johansen all had chances to score.
We lost by a solitary well hit strike.

Shite happens.

We are still on for a treble and until that becomes not the case then I for one will remain excited about it still being very much a possibility.

I’m a glass half full person.
