Celtic Diary Tuesday January 6: It Just Doesn’t Feel Right

Celtic got back to winning ways last night with a 2-0 win over “Kickers ” Kilmarnock, and proved yet again that you don’t actually have to watch a game to be able to report on it. Which is useful for the media.

We even did it without Scott Brown, according to the pre match team sheets, though i’m sure i spotted him out there once or twice.

Loads of possession, plenty of corners, a few glancing off the woodwork but only a couple of goals to show for it. Sometimes it was down to great goalkeeping-one or two saves by Killie keeper Craig Samsun were outstanding-sometimes it was down to desperate and heroic defending, and sometimes it was down to the simple tactic of just kicking the player in possession. The latter tactic clearly  the preferred option when it took just thirty seconds for Lee Ashcroft to make his mark on Kris Commons.

Yet it was a much more cohesive and enthuiastic performance than of late. Everyone did their job well, players helped each other out, and the unforced errors were pretty much kept to a minimum. Liam Henderson provided strength and vision in the middle, which must have made Ronny sit up and notice, because he actually showed more of what we’ve been missing than the much heralded Kris Commons, who proved that he can miss at least as many chances as all the other strikers put together. The difference with Commons , though, is that he actually makes his own chances, often out of nothing.

Where those two are concerned, you could flip a coin to decide who was man of the match. both were excellent, and both deserve a run in the side based on what we saw last night. Others who did well included Efe Ambrose, who apart from one slip in the first half, covered his man quite well, and kept it simple. Adam Matthews , too, bounced back from recent criticism to have a splendid game on the right flank, combining well with whoever happened to be in front of him, largely because the midfield was a lot more flexible than usual. Bitton covered and the other three went a wandering.

Which left a little extra space for Commons, and meant that all Scepovic really had to do was hang around for opportunities to arise. The Serb got the second goal, poking an ambrose header through a wall of Kilmarnock defenders on the line, and it secured a win that still looked a little uncertain until that point, as the hoops failed to add to Emilio Izaguerres first half volley.

Ronny Deila was happy after the game. He did his now customary fist pumping to the crowd at full time, which will become more enthusiastic when the trophies start getting handed out. He certainly cares, even if sometimes it looks like he doesn’t, and the travelling support appreciate it, and lets be honest, when you’ve gone to Ayrshire on a freezing cold Monday night in January, its nice to see that you’re not the only one who actually gives a toss.

The manager told the media;

It was a good performance, particularly in the first half, and we scored two good goals. It was a very good answer from the players.

‘I believe in them and this performance shows what is in the group. It was the right response after the Ross County game when we had domination but didn’t create enough chances.

‘Today we had a better tempo and created the chances we needed to win the game.’

He took time out to praise Kris commons for his contribution;

‘Especially in the first half, Kris was very good – as was the team.  He worked very hard. There were good reactions when we lost the ball and he created a lot of our chances.

‘He did a lot of things well and that’s what I wanted to see.

‘Ninety minutes like that is what we want from Kris. If he does that, he is a very important player for us.

So, is he going to keep him ?

‘The contract situation with Kris is the same as with Guidetti and all the others. We are talking together and we will see if we can get agreement.

‘I don’t think it is so much closer with Guidetti. We will see. He is going forward with everything but the final message is still some days away.

‘He had a good attitude when he came on the pitch tonight. We know what he can do and he is an important player for the team.

‘It is just a little break for him. We know we are going to get John back on the best level again.’

Ready for his next club ? Something not right about this anymore. Guidetti might be a wee bit tired, he might even be a little overwhelmed at his elevation from Manchester City reserve-very much a reserve-to first choice striker at one of the worlds best supported clubs.

However, now that the other teams have played against him, they appear to have got the hang of him, and he needs to prove he can go up a level.

Incidentally, that was one of the reasons that Henrik Larsson stood out from other forwards. In a league where teams played each other so often, he still managed to remain a consistent goalscorer, which whatever opinion you hold of Scottish football, is still a remarkable achievement, comparable with anything anyone else as done, if only for managing to keep motivated.

With negotiations to keep Kris Commons and John Guidetti taking up a lot of time and efort, there doesn’t seem to be much room for bringing anyone else in, although Celtic are keeping tabs on Stephen Hendrie, a left back currently at Hamilton, as well as Chris Humphrey, formerly of Motherwell , now almost out of contract at Preston.

Wow, bet you need to sit down after reading that.

Hendrie, to be fair, would be worth buying and then loaning back to Hamilton to help him improve. It wouldn’t do him any good to join our development squad. Far better for him to continue where he is, just let us get first dibs.

Derry City forward Michael Duffy is back for another trial. He arrived yesterday, and looked delighted to be here.

And he’s forgotten to put a shirt on.

More gossip. We certainly won’t be signing Ched Evans, we hear we’ve  officially told him no, but no doubt he thinks that means maybe.

Still, theres one contract we’ve renewed.

The 60,000 capacity stadium Celtic Park, home to Celtic Football Club, has renewed the catering contract with Centerplate.

The caterer Centerplate has managed the public concourse at the stadium for the past decade and will now refurbish the 40-plus kiosks for the remainder of the season as part of it long-term contract extension.

The custom branded retail outlets trialled on the West Stand concourse in the 2013-2014 season drove per capita sales increases of more than 60%, which has been a contributing factor to Centerplate retaining the contract.

Robin Buchanan, Celtic FC’s stadium general manager, said: “Expanding and enhancing the range and quality of the food on offer and Centerplate’s investment in developing the catering facilities on the public concourses throughout the stadium this summer means that fans had a fresh new look to start what we anticipate will be another successful season.”

Adrian Dishington, chief operating officer of Centerplate’s UK division, said: “It’s always rewarding to renew and extend contracts with existing clients as it pays tribute to the commitment, effort and commercial success the Centerplate teams have achieved at these venues.”

When will they get it ?

Pies, hot and edible.

Burgers, affordable and edible.

Chips , more than a dozen.

Drinks-hot, but not to the point of reproducing the feeling that you’ve just stubbed a fag out on your tongue.

It doesn’t matter how pretty the stall is, or whether you attach the word Celtic to it, we’d just like something to eat, something to drink, and not have to sell the car to pay for it.

Hoops Gourmet Pie Bar Celtic Fish Bar Centerplate Celtic FC Celtic Park images

What on earth is a Celtic Fish ?  Lets ask google….

I’ll give it a miss, if you don’t mind.

Sunderland have reportedly either made a bid or are going to make a bid of 8m euros for Virgil van Dijk.

Sunderland.

 Lovely place.

Its also the only place in England where its deemed better to actually jump in front of the train rather than get on it and try to get out of there.

 So, returning to the football.

Thats the team away out to Gran Canaria now, and the next match isn’t until the 17th of January, when the hoops face Hamilton, who will probably be ahead of Deilas men in the league by then.

Is it a good time to be taking a break, just as the horses begin to jockey for position for the run in ?

Will the club lose whatever momentum is being built up, and more importantly, will Aberdeen continue to keep going ?

Interestingly, as was pointed out in the Diary replies yesterday, the Dons are ahead of Celtic, despite two wins in the two matches for the Hoops, and therefore they cannot be counted on to falter against the lesser clubs.

 Whereas we have….

Our regular drunk has had his ear to the ground at Lennoxtown-largely because he can’t get up- and has overheard a couple of interesting snippets.

Look away now if you are John Collins.

The assistant boss is not a popular man amongst the players. So much so that a few of them are actually dreading spending so much time in his company over in the Canaries. He’s seen as back-stabbing, sleekit, and not at all one of the bhoys.

In fact, he’s causing a major problem amongst a squad already unhappy with training at substandard facilities when theres a league to be won…..

Something will have to give, and we wonder whether or not it will be Collins, who hasn’t brought a lot to the table since he joined the club.

His job is to act as intermediary, to be a big brother or father to players, not to get on their nerves. Unless its deliberate, an attempt to force one or two out. In his post match interview last night Kris Commons looked uncomfortsable with questions about his contract offer, saying “he needs to pay the rent” -an ill advised quip from a millionaire footballer.

One who, incidentally, isn’t on the plane this morning…

Like i said, it doesn’t feel right.

Something else that obviously didn’t feel right was the bif for Second Rangers from another american business man. A man , apparently, with a vision.

Sky sports explains;

Aye, okay.

Anyway, the Eadales have rejected it, as you would with any first offer.

Meanwhile, the share price will go up, and someone will make a few bob. Unless you can figure out why a club that has admitted it is skint, and needs a huge injection of cash would say to a potential buyer that he can get together with others and possibly lend them some….

It was Bobo Balde and Rab Douglas celebrating a 1-0 over Boavista in portugal, a result that led to the biggest airlift in peacetime aviation history as every man and his pal headed to Seville.

Continuing with a happy, celebratory theme, who is this, and whats he celebrating ?

Oh Hampden in the sun 🙂

Feeling good after last night. Commons still able to make a difference at SPFL level plus the added bonus of fielding 3-4 of our home grown who do not look out of place.

I thought Van Dijk strolled through last nights game and had Magennis well and truly in his back pocket.if indeed his shorts actually have a back pocket?
Henderson and Commons both did well and hopefully will get some game time out in the Sunshine.
Several things not so good though one which we are all aware of the other has slipped under the Radar for most.

1 Ambrose again giving away needless possession must be on his last warning at Celtic he’s fucking mince.
2 Nir Bitton is a complete wimp in a Celtic Jersey going in for anything remotely 50/50.

I would be looking to shift both on and replace ASAP.

The System against created more than enough chances to win it comfortably thankfully Izaldinho Celtics new prolific Striker was on hand to show Commons 8 shots how to finish off a move with a touch so good Zlatan choked on his Pibkled Hearing watching the game I gather.
Commons did have 8 good chances Scepovic on the other hand had one wee poach from 2 yards one finshed the game as a competition whilst the other ended up throwing himself into the net in the end.

Is that praise for Kris grudged,Charlie ?
He ran the show.Henderson and Kris were the catalysts for everything that was good about Celtic.Out the 2,I would have Kris in my team,
before the cumbersome Scepovic.I fear we have another dud striker,on our hands, with him.

Not at all he showed a hunger that’ been absent in nearly every game this Season he’s played so far.
I just hope that continues.
Sick of hearing th bs about Commons not playing is affecting the goals ratio..well he did last night and should have contributed to the goals ratio but failed to.
Both played in the same system as we have been playing all season the creating part has never been the issue it’s the finishing part that has.
They both played well but I am sure Commons would be the first to admit he could have had 4 or 5 last night had the accuracy been better.

Scepovic has done nothing of note to suggest he will be anything more than a bench filler up till now.
He looks well short on confidence to me.

I’ll tell you why he’s short of confidence, his manager only plays with one striker, the one being Guidetti.
I would like to see Griffiths and Scepovic or Guidetti with either in a front two over 7 games.

Thought we played well last night, some players seemed to enjoy playing on that surface and the passing was much better. If that was the minimum on offer every week we’d be a lot happier I’m sure, sadly its not. Don’t know what momentum we’ve built up winning one game in three so perhaps the break comes at a good time where they’re confident after a good performance and can train in good conditions, work on a few things, and let some wee knocks die down for those who need wee rest.
On the Commons thing if anyone else (especially Scepovic) had eight shots on goal and missed every one they’d be getting pelters. I thought he was very bright and created a lot but we don’t get points for hitting the woodwork, and he lashed over from seven yards out! Oh, his weaker foot, excuses that are made for some players. Watch the guy who’s playing now, not the guy we loved last year. Certainly deserves to keep his place but don’t tell me his contribution was amazing; he contributed well along with Henderson and Johansen, but the ball has to go into the net.

Monti

I thought we were powder puff at times in the first half but always in control of the game, if you put Lustig in that team instead of Ambrose and play with two strikers who score regularly, the’re wouldn’t be a problem.
Commons should play from the start every game! HH!

As for last night…
Totally agree that Virgil was a class act…Ambrose is a CB tribute act.
Annoyed with Commons’though…showed us what a very good player he is…but long overdue. His recent contributions have been shoite…as for “needing to pay the rent?”..Oh dear.
Henderson was excellent..Brown was average..Biton flatters to deceive..Johansen was terrific.
Final ball is still poor at times…
But overall we played a lot of lovely football …shame about the end product.

I said right at the beginning that I was not in favour of employing Collins.
He is a self-centred individual with an extremely disruptive personality. I would never trust him.
Ronny does NOT, I repeat does NOT, need him as he has the perfectly capable John Kennedy by his side, as well as others, with great experience, who would guide Ronny more appropriately in the nuances of Scottish football and team selection.
Years ago, when Collins was a player and Celtic trained at our school sports ground, I had first hand experience of his antics as a ‘big head’.
He is not a nice human being and I would dearly like to see severance of his contract with us. I cannot see what, if anything, he brings to the club.

Brian, I don’t know Evans and have only heard of him due to the publicity around his case, but I believe Ralph has a legitimate point around why this Welsh guy is being singled out when the very same campaigner doesn’t have any issue with, convicted sex offenders, the likes of Mike Tyson or Phil Taylor who have earned millions in this country, without protest.

The, apparent, WPC behind the Evans petitions, for some reason, doesn’t have an issue with convicted child killers playing the game.

Celtic have enough problems in the League without hun propaganda adding to it. Justiciars were done away with for a reason.

It was ok last night, for a cold Monday night in Ayrshire. A few things I observed:

1. Biton is a neat player but lacks a bit of steel.
2. Jordan Henderson is a far better player and contributor than Callum McGregor, who seems incapable of the simplest of passes.
3. Commons was influential and played well.

I dont get the continual innuendo surrounding John Collins. He is a clever and articulate guy and in my experience very personnable. If players are on the gossip wagon then they are no good to Celtic, the equivalent of internet hardmen hiding behind being annonymous. Hunt them before they become the next Craig Burley.

I thought that biton had a good game as did all in a celtic jersey. Controlled the match frim start to finish, i’d like to have seen a few more goals. I also thought that kris commons looked fitter than i have seen him and that he worked hard throughout the 90 minutes – hes not normally a guy that puts in a shift fir the full game.

Problem is Holy in a system where you are pressing teams running about alot is a major part of it.
Either he does or he fucks off that simple really.

As for heidless chicken Johansen I remember all to well Brown getting the same shite levelled at him for nigh on 3 years?

It’s called grafting and in my opinion it should be a basic requirement of every player who pulls on the Hoops.

This is why I would like to see Armstrong at Celtic he’s another heidless chicken who put’s a proper shift in.

Charlie,
I do like Johansen, but he lacks composure.
How many one on one’s has he had and missed ? Playing with one central striker,
he has to score more goals. Not all players
need to run at 100 mph. This is where Kris’s composure comes to the fore.

I agree but we have to remember at 23 he’s still Developing as a Footballer most Midfielder’s don’t hit their prime till their late 20’s normally.
His passing can be every bit as good as Commons though at times several times in recent games he’s supplied real quality into the box.

Mick67

Re-Commons, two things caught my eye.

The first was after he’d taken the stamp on his ankle, that’s what it looked like to me, by the time he was assisted around to the Celtic tech area, he stopped for a mo bending over rubbing his ankle as Ronny passed parallel at about 4yrd, Ronny said something very briefly, making absolutely no atempt to walk over to Kris, keeping his shoulders square to the player speaking overhis right shoulder (from 4yrd away), kris replied curtly and returned his attention to his ankle, Ronny strolled on.

Later in the game when Kris got his yellow it was patently obvious it was a revenge tackle for an earlier incident and he basically wasn’t giving two ‘F’s about the consequences. I’ve seldom if ever seen Kris put in such a deliberate in yer face hatchet job like that and if you spot the look he gives the ref after receiving the yellow, he made it crystal clear he didn’t make any difference to him if it was a red.

Maybe I’m talking/typing shoit, hopefully, but he looked like a guy who didn’t expect to be playing in Scotland very much longer.

As you say, Ralph, somethin’ ain’t right.

It feels wierd being off on a Tuesday due to football, performance was okay looked like three up front, little impact in the wide areas but Izzy and Matthews picked up the gauntlet out wide but I still feel we would be a lot better with two up front, I like my goalscorers to do the scoring and the midfield to move the ball. Commons and Henderson played well last night but I still think that there is too much expectation on them due to the formation (box to box, top passing, running and scoring).

Last Season we Scored 47 goals in all domestic games playing 2 up front.
This Season we scored 47 goals in all domestic games playing 1 up.

The main reason being of course this Season we have missed alot of chances.

Like 167 corners producing 6 goals for example.

Sorry, Mr Saiz, but I genuinely believe that two up front, minimum, should be played by Celtic, this foreign waltenaccio/WW variant seems like asking the team too pley with one hand behind the back or with handcuffs on.

My example regarding this style/formation will be, as previously, Germany at the World Cup. One striker every game, except one, and only played two up front (by bringing Klose on to partner Muller) when they needed a goal. They started one game with two up front, the destruction of Brazil.

Charlie Saiz

How so?
Playing 4-2-3-1 means yo effectively play with 6 defensive minded players and 4 Attack minded players.
It’s a System being deployed by many of the Top Coaches around Europe and one that we can use on the Domestic front and the European front without having to alter anything.

On Average we have created 17 chances per game in the 22 games so far in Scotland this Season.

You Don’t have to be Craig Brown to know that this should be plenty to win all our games.

Comfortably.

Last night was similar to many other from the team this year – schizophrenic. Some lovely moves going forward, looked genuinely good on the counter on the few occasions Killie tried to attack, but our defence reminds me of the Tommy Burns era – when it was basically 9 going forward, Alan Stubbs & the keeper.

Now its big Virgil – who was excellent, and Gordon, with Matthews and Izzie playing as wingers and Efe being Efe, usually okay, but a howler always up his sleeve. That a team as poor as Killie still managed to make some chances is a worry, we can’t really expect anything from either game with Inter unless the defence is more coordinated / disciplined and the team retain the ball much better – so many sloppy passes into dangerous areas, poor control ceding the ball, so may simple mis-communications – like when Brown and Matthews left the ball to one another and the Killie lad strolled in for a shot. I m not going to be a Ronnie hater, but there are still things about this team that don’t convince, there is a reason we are second in the league, 9 points worse off than last year – I d like to know how many more goals we’ve conceded compared to last year. Inter will have watched that and thought – “right stay close to the central mid field area, they’ll mis-control the ball often enough and give chances to run right at the centre of the defence.”

On the positive I thought Henderson was excellent, has good technique, gets his head up and uses the ball well, Scepovic got a good poachers goal, Commons was always involved, I m not a huge fan but at present he is as good as we have, and big Virgil is the real deal.

Last rant – where are all our players disappearing to? When was Wakaso last spotted? Or Denayer? Or Forrest? Or Boerigiter? They seem to go out of the team with “knocks” and not reappear again. Bizarre.

BJF

Enjoyed the performance last night,Mattews doing much more, obviously Lustrig is nearly ready t o return.

Henderson was the pick of the bunch, couldn’t use Forrest on that kind of pitch with his type of injury record but Commons was more effective than his recent cameos, maybe hoping for a move, i hope not.

What do we do about EFY? Maybe if he could be the first central defender to challenge for any high balls and Virgil covers him, if it is just Efe,the ball, the opponent and the keeper, then Gordon is outnumbered, there will be two guys trying to score past him!

The break might be very useful,it is not as if it will disrupt an impressive rhythm.

Sorry, wrong website – I was looking for etims website about Celtic not the Sunday Sport?

What fuckin despair sometimes. The Evans and Taylor things are the same aren’t they? Plus, how would one somehow make the other okay? This is CELTIC we’re talking about here, do people really think Evans is the type of player and situation we should be discussing about bringing to our club? I guess it’s a wind up and I’ve just bitten. At least I hope so.

Last night’s match was the most I’ve enjoyed in ages. Not because ‘our stats were good either’ i felt we actually looked more like a fitba team than we have in a while. Recently we’ve had plenty possession, we have not ‘bossed’ games (as a team that is). I also liked how we changed the tempo at times more, rather than constant 100mph stuff. A lot more guile too (Commons + Commons’ presence definitely helped).
Still room for improvement but a step towards a more mature performance that we’ve been lacking since Ronnie Johnny n John took over.

matthews 7 played more as a winger ran all night
vvd 8 total control without braking sweat
efe 7 defended well against their version of mcculloch
izzy 7 scored a great goal
commons 8 why has he been left out most of the season says it all about our rubbish manager
henderson 8 another who should have been playing more this season
biton 6 not his best game but controlled the midfield in front of the defence
brown 6 ran about a lot but can,t pass
Johannsen 5 usual rubbish, bring back ledley
Scepovic 6 scored a goal needs more playing time, and a striking partner

PS – it looked like 4-4-1-1 last night, with full backs pushing up it was often 2-1-5-1-1 ! 😀
Quite often Bitton and Brown dropped off in between the Centre Halfs when we were in possession, which helped when we lost the ball as we seemed to re-shape tighter helping prevent the counter attacks we’ve been so open to recently.

Poor finishing nothing to do with build up play or creating of chances.
I have the stats for every game just ask if you need proof.

Have you ever thought, that maybe poor finishing,is down to not having a striker to finish, and relying on midfielders like Johansen ?
Chances are missed every season FFS!
So,that argument,does not wash with me,Stato!

If he played 4-4-2 with one defensive midfielder and one attacking midfielder beside him and deploying two strikers 🙂
We will see improvement and consistency of results!
It’s an easy game….

I think it’s closer to the point that we should be able to look at the circumstances and ADAPT! Sometimes CS’s favourite formation will work, sometimes 442, others 442 with midfield diamond, etc etc. We’re faaaar too one dimensional in so many areas of thr side.

I am ever the optimist and would rather believe Ronnie got his selection nearly right last night as well as being tactically astute than just pure luck. There would seem to be some divisions of opinion when it comes to team selections and tactics so for once I am prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt. The game itself was reminiscent of those Big Jock regularly spoke about. We were playing more than 11 men and having to dodge more than our fare share of bullets. But the Big Man always prepared to beat much more than the opposing team and last night Ronnie may have done the same. Not that I am saying he is quite a Stein just yet 🙂

Given man’s propensity for conspiracies, I am in no way surprised at the various “stories” about players coming in and those going out. Nor does it help when our own supporters read into things what is simply not there. Having said that, there are certainly shades of the Argentinian disappeared when it comes to some of our players. There are those who have climbed on the treatment table and seem to have been sucked into some injury void. Maybe Wee Jamsie is desperate for company. Then there are those loaned out to clubs that seem to excel at anonymity. If they all return we will have a pool bigger than the Mediterranean.

Speaking of which, there is a club or a company that should have disappeared into a void as well as anonymity. It has that many straws to clutch onto, it could have put a thatch roof on it’s dilapidated stadium. Never mind, they are a credit to thousands. But beware, animals are at their most dangerous when they feel trapped.

At least Sunderland is looking up these days 🙂 Sure that is not Newcastle?

In other words, it gave me hope that we could give a good team a game without having to rely on our goalie and our opponents profligacy.

That’s what we have relied on all season, nothing is going to change unless key areas are strengthened!

Is Danny the legend back working full time with the squad? Maybe he’s been the difference.

Would it suprise people to know on here that up to the 31st Dec last Season we had scored 47 goals and conceded 13
Where as this Season up to the 31st December we had scored 47 goals and conceded 12?

Strange but true 😉

A rather flawed argument,Charlie, our resident stato. We are now looking at half season’s ?
Next it will be shy’s.
The fact is,we ended up last season with 102 league goals. Can you confidently say,we will get near that total, with ONE central striker ?
Our 2 striker’s up to the half-way mark, were Stokes and Pukki, they did not play well together,or score goals.
However, when Griffiths came in January,he formed a scoring partnership with Stokes.Along with, the man you love to hate,Commons, the total was an excellent 102 goals.
I would say this answers your assertions, re systems, being equal,in goal productivity!

Forgive me for being pedantic but we have only played half a season under Deila it’s all I have to go off at the moment.

Up till now the goal productivity has been equal bearing in mind how many chances have been passed up by all and sundry (including 8 last night by Ronaldinhommons).
I am more shocked about th amount we have conceded considering how well the defence played last Season?

Incidently the reason we played an extra game this Season before December 31st was of course we got pumped out the Cup by the mighty Morton.

One major aspect that seems to be escaping all you 2 up front merchants is Deila only took control of this side 7 months ago Lenny had built his sides over the past 3 years.

The guy needs patience and time ,time not only to implement and cement his ideas but also time to build the squad he needs to deliver it best he can.

It would appear there are some among us not prepared to give him that time.

Commons is a good attacking option but he’s a poor allround Midfielder time some of you realised this he’s lazy and unwilling to do track back.

Hence why he’s been dropped this season in favour of a player who gives alot more.

we are moving forward yes we have a few areas to improve on, the stats from craig brown regards corners throw ins passes are all wonderful however points and goals mean prizes in league and cups

some players not good enough.. but getting pass marks. Efe sorry will need to go, big Steph sell him on to not suitable for Ronny master plan ..Commons sign or leave we had better in past and will have better in future..

I agree with you, Efe is a shambles, nice man bit a shambles.
Having said that, have we EVER had a good defence?

We had a good defence last Season Forster broke the Clean sheet record if you remember.
You don’t do that with a shite defence.

CS, Desi – do you actually go to / watch the games? Why bother as you only ever seem concerned with the stats / outcomes – yes they are important but only as part of a bigger picture…. does it not matter that the team is weak and watching them has a 90% chance of making your eyes bleed? We want a strong Celtic that has a chance in amongst the big boys Winning is no.1 priority but we struggle under Deila’s guidance against SPFL fodder. Look at what’s on the pitch as well as the print out of the stats.
Just about every professional manager, coach, player who has cared to look sees nothing to fear from us, we’re not a strong, capable, clever, well set up side. Name ONE credible professional that thinks otherwise? THAT is the reality I’m afraid.

Valgharen, Myailby, Balde or Stubbs and Rieper were good defensive units!

Celtic completely controlled the game last night. Never at anytime did I think we weren’t going to win.
Killie had 10 men behind the ball all night, sometimes all in their own area. Maybe this is one of the reasons we never scored more goals. Ross County did the same a couple of weeks ago and managed to steal a point.
This is the problem we now face -teams just putting 10 men behind the ball ad hoping to get a break at some point during the game. Wouldn’t matter if we had 2 strikers & Commons in midfield, we will still struggle against these kind of tactics.
I can’t believe some of the comments on here from supporters – moaning for the sake of moaning as someone else has already said.

re Commons 8 chances, by my reckoning only one was clear cut & missed albeit from 7 yards, the rest were good saves or good efforts from range
