Celtic Diary Monday January 5: Crisis ? What Crisis ?

Maybe its an overstatement.

Maybe the alarm bells are going off to soon.

Aberdeens win over Motherwell yesterday put them four points clear at the top of the league. Then , behind them, just one point separates four teams.

Nip and tuck it is, then, and if Celtic fail to beat Kilmarnock at Rugby Park tonight, the team will be heading off to the Canary Islands leaving everyone else a chance to rack up a bit of a gap.

Nip and tuck. as in if we don’t nip this little wobble in the bud, then we could be well and truly tucked.

Craig Gordon says he’s not worried, due to the quality Celtic have in the dressing room.

Ralph Malph says he’s worried because that quality isn’t transferring itself to the pitch.

Tonights game will be played on Kilmarnocks artificial pitch, and there was a wee bit of a row when the Ayrshire club refused to allow the hoops to train on it ahead of the game. You can’t blame them, they will look for every possible advantage they can get in the match, but the fuss Celtic kicked up made one or two of us feel that Ronny was getting his excuses in early, even though the manager moved swiftly to put those fears to rest.

: “I have a lot of experience of artificial pitches, so for me it is just normal. I understand it’s different for the players because they have not played on it so much.

“But it is much better to play on a good artificial pitch than on a bumpy, natural grass pitch. The tempo of the game will be higher and the ball is going to move quickly. But it’s important that it is a top-quality artificial pitch.”

There are rumours though , that the surface wasn’t actually ready so the Celts couldn’t have trained on it anyway,

but we hear that a former Kilmarnock employee is has a bit of time on his hands just now, and he has a keen interest in gardening, so everything should be done in time for kick off. He’s just getting a list of what he needs together and then he will be down there this afternoon.

Kilmarnock keeper Craig Samaon explained his clubs decision;

“I can understand Celtic’s logic and them wanting to try our surface out but I can understand why we have said no.

“We wouldn’t phone up a club like St Mirren and ask them if we could come and train on their pitch before we play on it.

“And Celtic aren’t going to phone another club who have a grass pitch and ask to try that out either.”

Sorry, try that again;

Maybe its me, but that didn’t make any sense even a second time around.

After reading that, the club itself tried to clarify things;

“There is no current rule which states that any club should grant another club access to their stadium prior to games and maybe that’s something for the SPFL to look at.

“No other side have asked for or been granted access to our pitch and it’s only fair on other clubs that we refused Celtic’s request.”

So there.

Remember the Ajax centre half we mentioned last week ? The one where I forgot his name, so technically I suppose we didn’t mention him ? That was Stefano Denswil, or, as it has turned out, Stefano Denswon’t. He’s joined Club Brugge instead, and that means we will be looking elsewhere.

 Anywhere else will do, because otherwise we will be stuck with the off form Efe Ambrose, who co-incidentally, is another one not concerned by the recent run of poor results;

“Aberdeen are at the top and they deserve it, they are a great team and have been playing well,” said Ambrose.

“We respect them and we look for the challenge from them. Not just them, Dundee United, so we need to step up.

“The best of Celtic is going to come because we know there are teams behind us trying to take the title from us.

“What we need to do is win every game from now until the end of the season and I believe we have the ability and the squad that can do that.

“But it is easier said than done. People think it is easy for Celtic for win the league but it isn’t. Every team wants to beat Celtic so that makes it difficult. It puts pressure on us. We have not been at our best, but that is football. I think it will change this year. Against Kilmarnock it is going to be a different Celtic team.”

Efe himself has been struggling in training, and during a cross country run he had to be helped to the finish line by a team mate.

Anyway, we hear that both Leicester and QPR are keen on him, with a loan move a possibility.

All of which leaves us a little short in defence. Although some would argue that ambrose being away makes no difference to the overall quality, it does to the quantity. On a recent tour of Celtic Park, a fan enquired as to what the bricked up hole in Peter Lawwells office was, and was peturbed to hear that it was , in fact, the transfer window.

Deila himself is on record as sayinng he doesn’t expect too many signings this month, and his priority is to keep players.

Kris Commons, who is amongst those believed to be looking for a way out, is apparently hanging on. The Twitterati claim its because he doesn’t want to sign a permanent deal elsewhere only to see a new manager take over at Celtic before the end of the season.

 Surely nonsense….

Which brings us to the other big news today !

Lets start at the beginning;

Embedded image permalink

Anyhoo, that club died, another similarly named one took its place, and it appears they , too, are teetering on the edge of the abyss.

Second Rangers have taken out a loan of £500,000 , secured against the money they are due from the sale of wonderkid Lewis MacLoed to Brentford.

Another insolvency event  is rumoured, in fact one or two sources claim its why Neil Doncaster felt secure enough to refer to them as the same club last week, although that might be crediting him with a little more intelligence than we have previously seen evidence of.

Some questions need to be asked, but to be honest theres no-one suitable to ask them, and there isn’t really anyone suitable to answer them either, a situation which needs to addressed sooner rather than later.

I’ll float one up there though…

Are the club trading while insolvent, and if not, could we see a bit of proof ? After all, supporters will be buying tickets, booking flights, hiring buses and reserving hotel rooms for the February clash between Celtic and Second Rangers.

We could do with knowing if they’ll be around for the game.

Anton Rogan, the legendary left back featured in Saturdays Diary, bringing back memories and old jokes-remember the one which claimed Polish defender Dariusz Wdodczyks first words of English were “Fucks sake, Anton “

You know what, though. Rogan was a favourite of mine, and we need more of his kind. just not maybe in defence. One mazy run down the flank against the now defunct Rangers had me on my feet cheering, as it was obvious that the player was having the time of his life, even though the move went nowhere..

Now, why are these two so happy ?

Note-it has nothing to do with battering  Barcelona players in the tunnel.

Oh, and by the way, apparently another American businessman is about to put in a bid to take over the cash strapped Ibrox club mentioned earlier.

We have exclusive pictures of the reaction from Ibrox…

Something else made me laugh the other day. Remember the old Carry On films, where the characters had names that suited their jobs, such as WC boggs , who owned a toilet factory ?

Anyone think of a job for this guy ?

Courtesy of the BBC SCOTLAND website:

“Rangers’ latest crisis loan was taken to avoid being wound up by HM Revenue and Customs, BBC Scotland has learned.
It is understood the Scottish Championship club received a seven-day notice letter at the end of December for the payment of national insurance.”

It’s just like the old days of 2012 – expect Doncaster/Regan/ Ogilvie to attempt to get Nimmo-smith out of retirement shortly to whitewash things again??

Mornin’ all…(Dixon of Dock Green eat yer heart out)..
Need to ask…
Should our fearless and impartial SFA not be inviting Sevco to explain their current financial meltdown?
I thought one of their main tasks was to ensure that Clubs were able to continue trading in order to meet fixtures.
This mob are teetering on the brink again…but not a word from our leaders.
You’d think the SFA were helping them out here.

Squeaky bum time for Ronny? It’s unthinkable to think,he is going to arse this league up.Watched the Dons yesterday, they are playing well. They have a settled team, good shape,2 strikers working hard, and a defence that is giving nothing away.
Can we say the same about Ronny’s team? NO.Even Charlie Saiz would agree.Ronny and his players,
have got to stand up,for the battle which ensues for this league.
He say’s his players are fighters? Well, let’s see it,starting tonight at Killie.
The next 2 months, will be a test for Ronnie,to see if he has got what it takes,to show he deserves to be our Manager!

PS Well done Gary Anderson, anybody else think he looks like Sandy(fraudster) Easdale?

Prior to tonight’s game at Rugby Park, I am slightly (!) perturbed at the strength of Aberdeen’s challenge. We have beaten them home and away thjis season but they are still in front of us.

Speaking of Kilmarnock, how many posters can name the four Celtic players who have managed Kilmarnock?

Jimmy McGrory, Malky McDonald, one of my fathers favourite players Willie Fernie and my favourite Celt Tommy Burns.

The meeja aren’t even trying to hide their desperstion that anyone other than Celtic should win the title.

After yesterday’s win for the sheep the Sportsound commentator triumphanyly announced……

” let’s see how Deila & Co react to that” Shockingly partisan and not even a hint of embarrassment about it; he couldn’t even bring himself to call Celtic by name.

These people are paid by us to be professional knowledgeable and impartial but fail on all counts.

I would complain to the BBC but it would as usual be swept under their rather accommodating rug.

Yes,Honest Hoops,
We were saying the same in January 2009,when we were 7 points ahead of the defunct club.WGS was going for 4 in a row,and we thought it was in the bag.At the end of the transfer window, then,
we were only 2 points ahead.Lawwell failed to get Fletcher in,and we paid a heavy price, when we lost the league.
Yes,the Dons don’t have experience, but they are a free spirit, and we really have to take their challenge seriously.
Will Lawwell fork out for a striker? I doubt it.
When Hamilton and Dundee United, have scored more league goals than us,then we have a serious problem in this department.
Maybe Desmond, will give us a late Christmas prezzie,in the shape of Jermaine Defoe for 5 months?

Who the feck is kidding who here?
When will the member clubs do someting about this…??
and I quote….

” It was claimed the club had been served with a seven day notice by the authorities over the default and that, had it not been cleared by midday today, then legal proceedings would have begun.

The SPFL were unaware of the situation despite having an early warning system in place with HMRC which notifies them of any potential tax disputes involving any member club.

But after learning of this morning’s reports Doncaster and Blair – who docked Livingston five points for breaking the same rules earlier this season – moved swiftly to discover if Rangers were next in line for a punishment.

Doncaster confirmed to Record Sport: “On the basis of the information we have received we are satisfied there has been no breach of rule E20.”

These fuckers are going to kill the game stone dead and if they don’t or wont believe it I think it is time for the rest of Scottish football to organise a movement against these scumbags and remove them from their positions.

Ralph

Enjoyed the diary as usual especially the Efe photo. Do you have that soldier’s number? I could see me being a regular at the games if I had him around :).

I did appreciate one of your sentences in particular,
“Craig Gordon says he’s not worried, due to the quality Celtic have in the dressing room.

Ralph Malph says he’s worried because that quality isn’t transferring itself to the pitch.”

Oh, that’s two! See what happens when you only expect one up front.

However, it does highlight one of my contentions viz. that the current “crisis”, or should that be “Armageddon”, is as much the fault of the players as it is of management. Having said that, I have to confess that Mr. Deila has been the cause of much of my heart problems of late and I am slowly and reluctantly coming to the conclusion that I may join the queue for a transplant – provided a certain CEO has the money to pay for it. However, I am not willing to enter the Private Fraser mode of support and claim we are doomed, doomed, I say. Two games in hand and 30 still to go and yet some are writing us off. Probably the same ones who said the league was in the bag in August last year. Hope springs eternal just as easily as James Forrest slides onto the treatment table and the media jump on the bandwaggon.

As for the Bare (no, not a mistake. It is bare) Army and the Armageddon warriors, I ask the question why are the MEMBERS of the league not taking action. After all, they hold the power, don’t they? And why is Celtic keeping mum on all of this fiasco? It is not an argument to say the club does does not have a special interest. It most certainly does, not least because it is booked to play against an entity that is neither defined nor managed in accordance with the rules of the organisation of which Celtic is a leading member. Or is it relying on the answer it gave me to the question of playing a team with the name Rangers in the semi final viz. that the club have to follow the dictates of the SPFL and SFA. Somebody should have told wee Fergus that, eh!

Hi, I am getting as depressed as Monti with a hangover and that is definitely not a good sign, though I would not go as far as comparing him to the headless one. Cheer up bud. Think back to the days of conflict with your old mate Cam and remember just how well off we are. Mind you, it would not be me who would curb your “enthusiasm”.

In any other league there would be an enquiry regarding breaches of good business practices, also if a club is operating on a basis of insolvency. All we get from the laptop loyal is that people are buying shares and things are looking on the up. If this is the up God help the downs,. Back to the important issue Celric must bring in a quality defender, hang on to Van Dijk and keep Commons. The Celric board have let things slip to far and should consider where the go from here. Not for a wee sale on a digestive biscuit!

Aberdeen fans had a sack Doncaster banner at Fir Park yesterday – the fans of every team must all be thinking the same as us – we managed to get a movement going when Doncaster & co tried to keep rangers /sevco in the SPL, may be time to get organised again to get rid of Doncaster, Ogilvie (how has he managed to stay in a job with his history) & Reagan.

Good Luck to the Hoops tonight I am confident of a win, three points will do.
Isn’t it funny all the machinations of the dead club with the new billionaire from USA ready to come in and save them.
The reason I say this is because I have just read an input from the BBC which has him all but ensconced in the blue room above the marble staircase as the new saviour, they even compare the situation with Liverpool when Mr Henry took over with no experience what so ever of football but hell look at the success implying fully that this could be replicated at the bigotdome, you can almost feel the desperation for the need of a saviour with loads of money, this is the legacy that murray and a compliant press has left behind.
Anyway on to more positive things, heads up belief in CELTIC.
Look the part, feel the part, be the part. C’mon the HOOPS

A win and a relatively easy win is good. Isn’t it amazing the latitude that SPFL/SFA are showing the latest incarnation of the Rangers or Rangers international or whatever they call themselves these days. I wonder when Moonbeams will get tagged with being the one who actually brought down this dispicable, obnoxious and odious institution? If EBTs were illegal then the ability to spend more money on players than other surely delivered an illegal advantage. So therefore should the discussion to strip all honors won during that period be rescinded and given to the teams who played within the rules?
