Ode to Craig Gordon

Craig Gordon by The Holy Poet

A young man called John Thomson, our prince was truly blessed

And between the Celtic goalposts, he proved he was the best

They tell me that young Johnny still guards them every game

As he eyes up every goalie who dare challenge this acclaim.

The pretenders, and we’ve had many, would walk that holy line

To be adored and loved by Celtic’s fans for a hero’s hard to find

Then along came Scotland’s keeper, is he the best that we could get?

Another “free”, that’s Celtic’s way, but this time to guard our net!

His heroics earned him plaudits, high praise that was deserved

A professional, a gentleman, no matter who he served

But injuries plagued the goalie and put paid to his career

They assumed the worst and pitied now, the one they once revered.

Two years away from football, two years out the game

Some say he is a “has been” as they doubted and defamed

The man who played for Scotland, the first picked for his team

But these doubts were not Craig Gordon’s, he continued with his dream.

A strong will never gives up, what he had was self-belief

The belief that he would make it and for us that spelt relief

Commanding all he surveys, alert in body, mind

Now he’s Celtic’s first choice ‘keeper walking young John Thomson’s line.

He blocks and parries, twists and turns, leaps for every ball

A defence that was in disarray now obeys his every call

Commanding every movement with every step controlled

And always quick to distribute and is fearless in our goal.

Defending, guarding, with all his might, our number twenty six

Commitment, passion flows through veins between our hallowed sticks

He left these shores for England for a Scottish record transfer fee

Now he’s back for club and country proving treasures can be free.

The man who came for nothing whom some of you chastised

Now walks that line where greats have walked, here in Paradise

And is that young Johnny smiling? Our Prince who will not rest!

Because, If it is, he’s telling us, Craig Gordon’s passed the test!

The Holy Poet.

FFS guys . Geez a break .get off RD’s back.

Hamilton are no mugs as their league position proves they’re a good team.

How arrogant are we to expect that the league’s a skoosh case , and we’re expect to walk it.

Just for once why don’t you blame the fecking players who couldn’t have scored in a brothel on sunday.

Ronny Delia played his best team and made decent substitutions .

If you had any grey matter between the ears , then you would realise games such as sunday’s happen now and again.

The positive aspect to be drawn from the game , was tha number of excellent scoring chances created.

A lot of you cry for RD’s head on a platter, that would be bloody stupid as it will set us back to July.

I do respect everyone right to express opinions but ffs try and make it constructive.

The league’s won over 9 months not 9 fecking weeks.

So true Celtic fans , lets be patient for now.

If no improvement to the team is evident towards the end of season , then by all means , let’s look at the alternatives , however let’s give everyone at Celtic our support.

Happen now and again?? Its happening every week. With the players we have, yes, the league should be a skoosh case> Like it was last year. Yir man is clueless on setting up a team to win at this level

Sorry Macca but you are talking sheidt pal.
Go look at the stats from every League Game this Season we have CREATED on Average more than 15 chances per game.
Most of which have been squandered by the player finishing them.
Injuries to Key players:
Lustig Mathews Brown Mulgrew
Poor individual errors in defence
Poor early individual form by some namely
Izzy Efe Johansen and Commons
Slow uptake of a quicker and more demanding approach by a few have contributed to a slow start to the Season.

If it was down to Deilas Tactics or methods we simply would not be creating as many chances or controlling as much possession as we have been.
Hamilton are not top of the League by chance yet they came to Celtic Park had 40% Possession and 5 efforts at goal in 90 minutes.
We effectively had our wallet knicked by a pickpocket.
No different from Morton last Season.

Except that is Morton were not at the top of The SPFLat the time more mid table in the Division below.
Give it time for the pieces to fall into place, the injured to return and the strikers to start hitting the net with the consistency we know they have in them.

I’m sorry but if there’s no improvement in the team towards the end of the season then that means the league’s blown by then, I cannot honestly see any improvement in this CELTIC team under Ronny, his obsession with diet and extreme fitness is distracting away from the fact that his system is failing miserably, apart from the Dundee United game we have been poor in almost every game relying heavily on Craig Gordon to save even more embarrassment, especially in Europe, every body is rightly entitled to their opinions but as long as Ronny keeps to this lone striker system along with his obsession with wingers, wingbacks, getting the ball out to the wings at every opportunity while totally exposing the central midfield and centre halfs then get ready for more results like yesterday’s.. A stubborn manager can be a blinkered liability, and unfortunately i think that’s what we have..HAIL HAIL, KTF

Hamilton are no mugs, that said they are Hamilton and given a comparison with us, our players and resources, they should not win games at Celtic Park. RD and his team remind me of David Moyes last year. He never quite understood the club, the size, the expectations ( week to week ) the complexity and ultimately his system didn’t work. This cost Man Utd a lot of money not to mention pride. They are fortunate enough to spend 200M to fix it. While I acknowledge players are at fault here too, the drum beat is set by the management and something is amiss. Lets hope RD and team get it fixed quickly.

We persevered with Mowbray who took us to a new level of embarrassment and fired him when it was too late to salvage anything so we cannot make same mistake again. Sevco probably be back next season and we MUST be ready for them. Ronny is too inexperienced for club of Celtic’s size.

I’ve watched Hamilton at home twice recently…
They beat Ross County easily..although County were dreadful…
And I watched them draw 0-0 with Kilmarnock…both teams being poor and devoid of ideas on the day…although Killie for me just shaded it.
Why do I mention it..?
Wel I just wonder if anyone from Celtic watched them.
What was apparent in both games was their shape and their style of play..Very well organised..and hard working..and fit.
I knew we would have a hard time against them..although we should have won…but credit to them..they stuck to their task and done the business.
As for RD…His style of play is not for me…
Far too open..too many passes..( a lot of them buck passes and a lot of them shoite passes )….and a defence like a sieve.
We get picked off far too easily on the counter.
As for our final ball…It’s the worst I’ve ever seen.
If this keeps up he won’t last..I want him to be very successful..but I don’t think he’ll have enough time…
Hope I’m wrong.

What a bunch of wihingers the current Celtic support has become.
At the moment it is RD in the summer it was PL and DD.
Attendances are falling and they blame everything and everyone but themselves .it will be better for the club when the core support drops to 25000 for then you will have the hard core Celtic Fans the real Celtic Fans who will back the club through thick and thin, the glory hunting psychoanalysts will have gone only to come back when things turn and Celtic are again winning week in week out.

The Daily Ranger was full of them today they profess to love the club but are straight on to this rag filling there pages with anti Celtic piffle.. The living wageites , Celtic are primarily a business the Living wage is something Governments should handle or be ashamed they don’t. It is time the Fans did what fans are supposed to do and support the club . RD may not be the answer but trying to change the way the footballing side operates is maybe something that should be persisted with as we have not been all that successful in Eurean Competition for years this might just get us playing like a prer European Side and not a wee Scottish Club

Hello Dan,

I assume that you are trying to be controversial here? We have only ourselves to blame as fans? We’d be better off with 25,000 per week turning up who are real? Not sure what that means – other Celtic fans are not real? There were dark days when the attendances were numbering in the 9000 real fans. That nearly wiped us off the football map. I’d like to see us winning in Scotland and in Europe to do that we need 60,000 real fans in every week. To do that we need the best management we can afford and the best players we can afford winning week in week out and giving a good account in Europe where the clubs who win nearly all of the time can afford 80M for one player. Supporting the club presence and money for tickets entitle us to a opinion. Here of all places we can have a decent argument among friends?

Hi BB
I am just tired of reading and hearing Celtic people in the MSM and SSB and BBC and Sky having a go when we do not need to give any of these organizations a reason they can make I it up themselves but there is just something that does not sit well with me when the ordinary Celtic fans open up in the media to have a go.at the Club.

Dan I agree no need for us to fuel a media machine that is to say the very least unfriendly to all things Celtic

An Ode to Rangers (circa 1872-2012)…
To the tune of Athenrye

“Fuck Off And Die”

By a lonely Bar-L Wall
I Heard a Young Man Callin
Davy You Have Gambled It Away
For He Stole Old Lizzies Coin
Whilst They Sung About The Boyne
Now Wee Hectors Gone and Taken It Away

Tatty Bye You’ll Hear The Celtic Cry
Rangers Are Gone and Now We’re On a High
With Paddy On The Wing His Fenian Army Sing
Jelly and Ice Cream The Day The Rangers Die

By a Lonely Copeland Road
We Saw a Large Man Callin
“Big Hoose Staying Open ” Wait and See
Because “That’s The Bottom Line”
He’s Half Jaked On BuckFast Wine
A Result of Years of Shame No Dignity

Tatty Bye You’ll Hear The Celtic Cry
Rangers Are Gone and Now We’re On a High
With Paddy On The Wing His Fenian Army Did Sing
Jelly and Ice Cream The Day The Rangers Die

By a Lonely Ibrox Wall
We Saw The Last Bear Bawlin’
“Hullo Hullo ..No Surrender” Was The Cry
For He’d Wished and Hoped and Prayed
That His Club It Might Be Saved
Now He’s Realised That Rangers Simply Died

Tatty Bye You’ll Hear The Celtic Cry
Rangers Are Gone and Now We’re On a High
With Paddy On The Wing His Fenian Army Did Sing
Jelly and Ice Cream The Day The Rangers Died
