Celtic Diary Tuesday January 14

Apologies for no Dairy appearing for the last few days, especially at such a crucial time in the season. I took a trip back to the nineteen seventies with a visit to my old hometown on the west coast ( Scotland, not California, but it sounds more glamourous ) where I bumped into a lot of people who I hadn’t seen for many , many years.

I guess we all have to do it from time to time.

Problem was though, in order to access the Etims site you need a password, a retina scan and at least three witnesses of good standing to watch you log in. And I had forgotten my password. Which meant I couldn’t do a diary whilst I was away.

There was a little bit of good news while I was away, my son won a speliing competition at school, and the prize is a week in Center Parcs. Though he was disappointed when he found out the pictures he stole -all priced at over £100, 000 -turned out to be from an estate agents.

So, what else has been happening ? Has Jordan Rhodes signed yet ?

No, but Stefan Johanssen from Stromgodset should put pen to paper today. The Norwegian is in glasgow and looking forward to joining Celtic;

“Celtic is a very big club. They are leading the Scottish Premiership, so the Champions League is a big attraction.

“I’m a passing player and Celtic try to play that way. ”

A passing player?  We were kind of hoping Celtic  might sign someone who wants to stay.

Former Celt Vidar Riseth rates him highly, and is hoping to be proved right so that Celtic fans can remember him for something other than this;

Bairds Press Conference, 2000

Things used to be bad….maybe we should bear that in mind sometimes.

After all, we are still at the top of the league, the club is in rude financial health-I always wanted to use that phrase-and theres more to look forward to than probably we realise.

The European exit has left a genearal feeling of malaise amongst the support, and probably even the players and management. so , we need to pick ourselves up and move on.

Motherwell visit Celtic Park on saturday, and they have recovered from a shocking start to the season and it won’t be an easy game.

Aberdeen visit us in the Cup in a few weeks, and frankly that could turn out to be game of the season. Incidentally, according to the official website Season Ticket holders can purchase tickets for the match now at a reduced rate of £15 for adults, and just £5 for concessions.

This exclusive window is only available to Season Ticket holders until Wednesday of this week, before tickets go on general sale on Thursday, January 16, at 9.30am at £20 for adults, and £10 for concessions.

Tickets will be available to purchase ONLINE, by calling 0871 226 1888* (Option1|Option 1) or by visiting the Ticket Office. Booking fees apply online and via booking line.

Please note that Season Tickets can still purchase tickets at the reduced rate after Wednesday, however these can only then be purchased at the Ticket Office or on the enquiry line on 0871 226 1888 (Option 1|Option 2)

And there is proof that I can finally understand the copy and paste function on this laptop.

Oh, and Jordan Rhodes could be along anytime soon.

Oh, maybe not.

But then again, perhaps it is time to give Teemu Pukki and Amido Balde a run in the team together. Both scored in the recent tour, and the goal from Balde was top drawer.

He also put away a penalty in the shoot out against Galatasaray that had the keeper applauding him;

balde penalty

Actually, we’ve seen this film before. We had Tony Watt coming through, so no new striker came in,. and Watt was soon on his way out.

Keith Jackson, who usually can be relied on to give an accurate assessment reckons there are three £6m strikers under consideration…. which means Balde and Pukki it is, then.

Johanssen is highly spoke of as a midfielder, which means that Tom Rogic, who never really got a chance, should take up a loan at least somewhere, and just a quick reminder, Beram Kayal is still on the books.

The Stoke Sentinel, which is my local paper has a denial from Port Vale manager Mickey Adams over Celtics interest in keeper Sam Johnson;

“Celtic came to a few of our games last season. I met their scout and he was talking about our other players, but not Sam.

“Looking at the scout list recently, he has not been at our games so I think this is just a flyer. That’s his agent doing well for him.”

Er, he met someone who told him he was a scout…..Happens a lot down here.

Bobby Collins, member of the team that beat Rangers 7-1 in 1957, has passed away at the age of 82. He was known as the Wee Barra, and remembered by those who saw him as one of the finest midfielders to wear the hoops.

He left Celtic to go on to Everton, and finished up at Leeds Utd, where he played a major part in their revival that led to the Yorkshire clubs dominance of English football in the late sixties and early seventies.

Rest in Peace.

Bobby Collins was only a wee fellow, and here he is with another player, not a Celt, being given a wee pick up. Who is the other player ?

Ralph,

I am not Stoke(ist),but no excuse for having no diaries.
We expect PL to come out with excuses,when we don’t sign a
striker,but expected better from you Ralph. ( joke )

A midfielder with vision is a start.
A quality striker, to light up ( as we.have no GB ) Celtic Park is a must.
Luuk de Jong,at Borrusia M( can’ spell second part ) would be a
sensation at CP.2 years ago he destroyed us,while playing for Ajax.

Talking about GB( expect PC brigade vitriol posts soon ),Police
Scotland have arrested BOYS aged 14-16 for fir park disorder.

Have the Green Brigade,now got a case to review their ban ?
I hope so.Even the PC’ers must have done something bad, in
their youth.

Indeed. I must complain about the lack of dairies. Where else can I start the day with a cheesy grin and milk the same joke time after time.

Ralph

Nice to have the diary back and to have my original comment traditionally rejection.

Prayers and sympathy to the Collins family.
May the Wee Barra rest in peace.
