Celtic Diary Monday June 3

Season books for next year went on general sale this morning, with thousands expected to take up the new cut price deal on offer, and the club insist that we should be quick in order not to miss out.

It’ll be interesting to see if cutting the price makes a difference to sales, especially as its not too hard to pick and choose games as the season goes along, but whatever happens, its a great gesture by the club, and shows that they are listening.

The champions have yet to confirm the game against Liverpool in Dublin on August 10, but tickets are already on sale, so you have to hope they will show up. Incidentally, for anyone in the Irish capital, Neil Lennon will be in the Celtic store in the Jervis Centre 4-5pm with the two trophies captured last season.

My son is over there just now, so I am going to ask him for pictures. If he can drag himself out of the bar long enough.

Congratulations to Bayern Munich, who joined the list of Europes elite-those to have won the big treble of League, Cup and European Cup. The German side made the grade after they beat Stuttgart in their Cup , and take their place alongside Celtic, who did it first, Ajax, PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United and Barcelona.

Celtic, who did it first. Always a good sentence to type.

Scotland are in Croatia on Friday, and Scott Brown won’t be there. Brown has decided to withdraw from the squad, as has team mate James Forrest.

Gordon Strachan spoke of Brown, and it was kind of worrying what he said.

” He has to call it a day for a while. I think I’ll leave it to Celtic to tell you how long its going to be because it is not my right to tell you. I spoke to Broony for a long time this week but it had nothing to do with football, I just spoke to Broony for a long time. I think it is up to Celtic to tell you exactly what is going on. Its only fair. It is a huge disappointment to lose him. Last weekend, every time Hibs had a move he would stop it. I don’t think he is a natural sitter, but he can do it through sheer energy. ”

Celtic will tell us ?

The whole thing is a little bit worrying. But, we can only wait and see. As usual, specualtion is rife, with some saying he will miss the start of the season, and others saying he’s meeting up with Kris Commons in Las Vegas.

Commons is still getting grief of journalists for his trip-even being labelled a hypocrite in some quarters, having not taken his wife and kids with him, after moaning about how little time he spent with them.

Can’t they just accept he doesn’t want to play for Scotland, and thats that?

Belgian coach Jean Marie Abeels , who once reccomended Victor Wanyama to Germinal Beerschot, says the big midfielders dad wants him to go to Arsenal, which is where Vic wants to go. but not yet. Abeels has an academy, and is after £18,000 development fee from Celtic.

Stoke City also want Wanyama, and that bid is being taken seriously by Celtic, according to the Herald, who are desperate that he goes somewhere.

£10m ? £12m ? Frankly, who cares? Really, if he wants to go, he will go. all we can hope is that that whoever takes his place is good enough.

I am sick of hearing that Wanyama will move for money alone, as though that is the only thing he will be thinking of. Sick also of hearing that the club should cash in now, in case he isn’t as good next year.

If he wants to stay, he will. Perhaps he likes it here.

The Scotsman has dismissed reports that Celtic are interested in the two Newcastle players who were on loan at St. Mirren, but with Lennon at the French Cup Final at the weekend, two new faces have popped onto the radar. Yannick Sagbo and Brice Dja Djedje are the names mentioned, but then again, it was in the Record and the Express.

Call me a cynic, but it looks like yet again the MSM haven’t got a clue who is on the list.

Daryl Murphy will move permanently to Ipswich when his deal expires. The forgotten striker will stay in East Anglia, much to the relief of everyone at Celtic, and Thomas Rogne has confirmed he will consider his options.

Craig Bellamy has spoken in “searingly honest” terms of his short spell at Celtic. He described the standard of football as below the English championship, and didn’t seem impressed with his time at the club who were in a European final just eighteen months prior to his joining.

Its better just to forget some players.

Gordon Smith, former SFa man, former Rangers man, and radio personality, has blamed the fact that he lost his job at Rangers for his current financial breakdown. No-one likes to see anyone lose their home, and Gordon may need some advice.

Perhaps he could sell his house for a couple of quid to a pal, declare himself a new entity, and buy it back for next to nothing. All his other debts would then belong to the Old Gordon, and he, as the new Gordon, could just carry on as though nothing happened.

Speaking of new entities, the chaos at Ibrox should now come to an end. Gordon Waddell, in the Sunday Mail thinks so, anyway. Walter Smith is just the man for the job, crowed the Falkirk fan “because he has no experience ”

Putting a man in a job  where he has no experience or ability is the way forward, said the hack, pausing only to remove his head from Walters bottom, ( and its place was immediately taken by another subservient press member.)

Still, that should shift a few season books. Telling the masses they are sorted now and have a new leader is an annual event over there. Surely they won’t be as stupid as to fall for it all over again?

Anyway, they have a few new signings in. You know, I watched that Jon Daley a couple of times last year, and you have to marvel at the raw energy, immense talent and pure creativity that his agent must have.

Nearly everyone recognised Lubomir Moravcik, the guy mistakenly signed, according to Hugh Keevins and James Traynor, when we could have got John Spencer. Indeed, Traynor even commented that Moravcik could be a major embarrassment to Celtic and then manager Jo Venglos.

Someone wants to sign for Celtic, and has even brought his own shirt.

Blast from the past, now. Name this guy.
