Yuki Kobayashi, the Japanese defender, has joined Portomense of Portugal on a four year deal. They probably paid for him, but no one seems to know how much.
What does stand out about this move, and the others, such as Oh, Seigrist, McCarthy et al, is that the media were completely unaware of what was going on.
Whereas they seem to be fully aware of the projected moves and costs of those who haven’t left yet.
Atalanta had several well publicised bids for Matt O’Riley, and for whatever reasons, they didn;t land the player. but their failures should have indicated to Brighton that they would have to offer more, which they haven’t yet. Or he’d have been gone, if he wanted to, equally quickly and without all the speculation.
To a lesser extent, that also applies with others who have been mentioned as the subject of interest, such as Hatate (Leicester ) Kyogo (Manchester City ) …though one suspects a lot of that is his new agent planting a story….especially as Celtic just spent a lot of money on his back up, and his dodgy shoulder might mean the agent wants a big move for him before his arm falls off….and Carter Vickers (Unknown).
That’s four key players, and to lose all of them would plunge Celtic back to where they were before Ange Postecoglou took over.
Even our board aren’t that stupid.
Alright, even our board can’t be that stupid.
What we have is a plethora of stories, quite possibly because Celtic are the only club with any players who might even remotely interest other clubs.
Which means the usual rumour mill is centered around one area.
Let’s be honest, even the most gullible mainstream media isn’t going to believe there’s legitimate interest in James Tavernier or Todd Cantwell, and even the jewel in the Ibrox crown, Jack Butland isn’t going to match his Ibrox wage anywhere else.
Truth is, the Glasgow sides have the biggest support, and therefore the biggest readership, so stories about them will be written, and whether or not there’s anything in them is irrelevant.
Celtic possibly losing key players gets both sets of supporters interested, so everyone;s a winner in those circles.
We may yet lose an O’Riley, or any of the others, but it’s worth remembering Brendan Rodgers has said that he wants to add to the squad, not decimate it.
And with interest in a couple or three others, that seems to be his plan.
Let’s see how quickly Mikey Johnston is sold…..now that Burnley has registered an interest. The players Rodgers wants out seem to go fairly quickly , the ones he wants to keep ?
So far, he’s kept them.
The new third kit is now officially on sale.
Supposedly a tribute to fans, the squiggly bits are scarves and tifos…yeah I know…the designers have clearly overlooked the fact that the purpose of a football shirt should be to enable team mates to find you easily when they need to pass to you.
Real Madrid’s all white may be basic, but results suggest it works.
The hoops are equally iconic, and immediately noticeable in a crowd. If you don’t believe me, take the kids out to a busy event and if they are wearing the hoops I guarantee you’ll not lose them.
God knows, I fucking tried.
Wearing dark shirts makes it difficult to pick out a winger with a long pass. Gary Caldwell the exception of yesteryear, because he didn’t so much as pass, but hoof it in the hope someone might be somewhere near where it lands.
Fair enough, three new contractually obliged strips a year will present difficulties for the design team, but stick with combinations of green and white.
Or, of course, don’t have three new strips a year.
Even the players don’t like the third one, as we can see here as they show their relief at not being chosen to model it
Champions League packages are rumoured to be £200 for the four games Celtic will play at Celtic Park. It’s going to be difficult to shift them at that price, which works out at approximately £200 a point.
The fear of the board is that the team may have a few meaningless games should things not go to plan, and if they do a pay as you go system, even for season book holders only, sometime around Halloween supporters will have given up.
Getting the packages sold may prove tricky, so expect some sort of gimmick to help push the numbers.
Of course, they could spend some of their, er, cash reserves on quality additions to the squad to enable a realistic chance of qualification for the knock out stages , but that’s perhaps a little pie in the sky given their track record.
Well, not quite pie in the sky. Maybe more pie hurtling past the fecking moon.
It’s not often we get something wrong in the Diary
but yesterday the mention of a share issue at Ibrox appears to be wrong.
I’m devastated to have been caught out by a prankster and can assure you it won’t happen again until the next time.
By the way, does anyone know how I can get my quid back ? I bought two million shares in that place.
Yesterday, we had this….

Right Mick. By my reconning, it’s time to get ma laddies big book of last minute loans out the cupboard

Freudian slip ?????
I don’t think so,well mibbe l do.
No I reckon “reconning” us is just about right.
So that’s agreed. At 11:30pm on the 30th, we’ll issue the statement “the constraints of this league make this a difficult transfer window to operate in. Our bank balance is huge”
Oh Mick that reminds me , we’ve been offered cantwell
A combination of platinum titanium and diamonds, and every tick of the second hand is one closer to me getting my bonus. Lovely jubbly.
Operation bluff rodgers nearly complete. Keep up the good work Nicholson!

Dust off the “We tried…………. difficult to get players in (fill in month)…………. just couldn’t get the deals over the line…………. no one wanted our money” statement and get it out to our favourite scribes.

Rolex Daytona or a left back?
Yeah it’s a rolex, Dermo gave me it for not spending a curdy on players. I’m sure you will get yours very soon, just don’t answer the phone to Brendan and take a holiday until the transfer windows closed.
“Look Mike, every transfer window I (I mean you) have controlled. If you look at this watch, its as if time stands still.”

Stanley?
That’s another fine mess.
Good diary Ralph. I was impressed when we brought in Nawrocki and Lagerbielke. Perhaps because of injury they never convinced. Kobi clearly never progressed despite being impressive initially. Good the club splashed the cash at the time. Same with Mikey, great flair and skill but… and the ‘ but’ is the key. Brendan is clearing the decks, I expect 2 midfielders if Matt goes, an experienced defender and another striker. A back up to Greg Taylor has been vital for 18 months, very poor this has not been addressed.

In 5 minutes I’ll send another note to my many plants on CQN to remind everyone that we have never had it so good. Looking like £150m in the bank, maybe next season we should cancel season books and just sell (very) low interest deposits to our customers
The point on wearing the very recognisable green and white Hoops takes me back 40+ years….we went to our first Oktoberfest (Munchen) and quickly realised something: whilst in the HB (brewer) tent (with circa 7k others) one enjoyed the great German beer (steins), where loo trips did occur! Now, these were outside the tent and whatever way you exited you NEVER came back the same way! Trying to get your bearings and finding yir mates whilst sober was an accomplishment so after quite a few steins and some schnapps thrown in……!!!! The day we wore The Hoops everything changed, where you spotted the location of yir mates in a split second! Wearing The Hoops also meant that we met some new friends from all over the world, folk just wanted to talk to you about ra Cellic! We are indeed a global club. Hail hail.
“Ye like this watch Mick? Cracker innit? Got it as part of the 5-way agreement.”
Just hang in there Mikey boy, nearly there. A few more days and we’re golden. See this Brietlng, I got this the last transfer window I managed. If you follow my instructions I’ll get another one this year.
Look it shows the temperature of the heated drive way as well.
Ralph seems to be a bit of a cnut 😉 outlier re O’Riley.
Most other intelligent fan sites, seems to reckon it’s a question of when and not if he goes.
It also seems that Brighton have offered substantially more than Atlanta’s €21m and over Tierney’s £25m.
It would be great to keep him but my big fear, is that he goes right at the end of the window, with no time to find a replacement.
Would you trust this Celtic board to sell and buy in just over a week given their notorious glacier pace?
“I reckon I’ve a good 10 years here yet but you’ll be ok now I’ve shown Mark the ropes..
Now go and put the kettle on.’
“10 more days and we’ll have doubled our money.”
Don’t players only go to Portomenses for a brief period?
Or to plug a gap?
Clever…you should join that outfit for smarties, I think it’s called Menses or sumfin like that. You can subscribe and pay Monthlies. Then again it might Cramp your style. Even so it’s might just be a case of ‘horses for Courses’ unless I’ve just put a Curse on it.
No need to bleed it dry, smartiepants.

“That’s full time and I still can’t see the “rangers” coming”
A very good presser from Brendan, one of his best yet. He clearly pinpoints where we’re at re transfers at this particular moment in time as well as providing his own take as to why youngsters are finding success so hard to come by, not only at Celtic but also in Scotland as a whole. Well worth a listen.
Like most, I’m far from happy with the current state of play in the window but prefer to reserve judgement once it closes. I want a new LB and LCB to be be prioritized but I would not like them to be mere back-ups to Taylor and Scales. If and when these new recruits come in, it shouldn’t take us very long to see whether they turn out to be understudies, decent players competing for the positions in question or upgrades. In other words, the level of ambition re European progress becomes pretty evident in a short space of time using the following guage: an improved player in the position shows a serious statement of intent, someone providing competition may have some sort of merit but also typifies a lack of real ambition, while signing yet another benchwarmer would point to having practically no ambition at all for Europe. A simple but pretty effective yardstick for perceiving future signings. Nobody’s saying it’s easy to get the recruitment spot on every time but we’ve had plenty of time and very sizeable funds to put this right. Both have been problem positions for us for far too long.
Looking forward to facing St Mirren on Sunday. Even though the Buddies have lost 3 out of their last 4 games, they are unbeaten at home so far this season and could be a tough nut to crack in this fixture. They have probably been suffering from some Euro fatigue and additionally have quite a nasty injury pile-up, although team captain Mark O’Hara could be making a comeback to provide some extra power for their engine room. Big French centre forward Mikael Mandron (their top scorer in all comps last year) along with Northern Irish goalscoring midfielder Oisyn Smyth are two to watch out for. Elvis (Bwomono) hasn’t left the building yet but will probably find himself on the bench as Alex Gogic, Marcus Fraser and Alex Iacovitti make up a pretty solid back three with the powerful Richard Taylor also available for further strengthening if required.
We managed to beat them five times out of five last season but the Saints never normally make it easy for visiting teams on that tight little pitch and we can expect a very physical game. If we can reproduce current form though, we should be fine. I expect to see few (if any) changes to our starting line-up but it’s nice to know that Kyogo will be available again.

Ralph, given the all too familiar predicament we all find ourselves in as we approach the end of the transfer window, and the intense frustration felt during it, is it finally time for Celtic bloggers, supporters and like-minded shareholders to make a really strong attempt at unification with the intention of clearing out the residents of the PLC board? And ensuring nothing like them replaces them?
Is it also time to push for independent regulation of Scottish football with supporter led oversight?
(Doncaster’s statement on this was predictably negative as he no doubt sees it as a threat to him, absolutely what it should be as he’s clearly taking money under false pretences!
Though Res 12 seems to be finished for good, it doesn’t mean the 5-Way is, has been or will be. It’s still the same old con it always was and I feel it’s actionable and I’m STILL working towards that end but I need help with it and I’m currently seeking that.
There may be trouble ahead…….and, if so, I dearly hope it’s for those whom deserve it and we all know who THEY are.
