A second young player has turned down the chance to stay at Celtic and force his way into the team, and will now move on.
Daniel Kelly joins Rocco Vata on the Why didn’t We Give Them A Chance ? list, or as it’s also known the You’re Not Ready Yet list.
According to manager Brendan Rodgers, Kelly was told a few months ago
‘listen, if we can’t tidy this up by the summer, then it’s very hard to be with the team in pre-season’.
When Riley McGee turned down Celtic for Middlesborough a few years ago, Ange Postecoglou just left it at that and went for Matt O’Riley,
Rodgers is doing the same here. Kelly, like Vata, doesn;t fancy his chances of breaking through, and the money elsewhere that has no doubt been dangled in front of him has perhaps skewed his own opinion of his worth.
Good luck to both of them.
Matt O’Riley, on the other hand, has been the subject of a £15m bid from Atalanta, and Celtic have rejected it out of hand. What isn;t being mentioned in the media is that the club’s reply was that he wasn’t for sale.
O’Riley, on instagram, didn’t seem to be someone who is even distracted by the transfer talk…
Money, big money, will come to O’Riley one day. It doesn’t have to be one day soon…
The word on the street from our pish stained mole is that a goalkeeper deal is pretty much done, and that goalkeeper is the lad Kelleher from Liverpool.
In fairness to our soaked soothsayer, for a player who wants to move from Merseyside, there has been little other speculation about his destiny.
He did also mention that Brendan Rodgers is here for the long haul, something to do with his new house apparently, which hints at him being allowed to build the team he wants in the way he wants, which is why he came back in the first place, so perhaps there is a little more stability behind the scenes than at first thought.
By stability I mean the manager is getting what he wants…but we will see.
When Rocco Vata turned Celtic down, Rodgers told him that he would be one of three strikers at the club, so reading between the lines, as we only have one at the moment, given that Rodgers doesn’t seem to like Oh, then that suggests two more incoming.
If, as expected, one of those is Adam Idah, then that still leaves room for one other, but it is hard to see why a top class forward would want to come as third choice.
So Lawrence Shankland would fit the bill perfectly, as it would both weaken Hearts and annoy “rangers ” at the same time.
Sometimes buying a player isn’t about what he can do for you, it’s about stopping him doing it for someone else..
The 6-4 friendly win over Queen’s Park was certainly a way of dusting off the cobwebs, and not too much should be read into it, in fact, with the American tour just a few days away, not much should be read into any of these games, but what might be important is having a few new faces on the plane.
If , as we hear, a couple of deals are nearly done, then an announcement could, and maybe should, be made today, as we normally like to do that sort of thing on a Friday.
Maybe even wearing the new away kit…..
Elsewhere, and Phillipe Clement, the temporary manager at Ibrox …or wherever they end up playing…has given us an insight into his coaching methods by wearing a microphine during a training session….
In the months to come it’ll be something to remember him by.
His club continue to stumble from one problem to another. It looks like they’re about to strike a deal to play their home games at Hampden for the foreseeable future…if, indeed, they have a foreseeable future, which is a little bit odd when you consider it’s only a bit of steel they need , and they don’t seem to be looking for it anywhere else.
They don’t know when it’s coming…which is odd because I’d have thought that would have been the first question when the supplier said it would be late.
And let’s be honest, if something is going to be a month late, you’d probably nip to the co op to see if they sell it…
This leads to the conclusion, after sifting through the available evidence, and carefully weighing it all up, that someone is not being entirely truthful.
Maybe our media could find the guy they sacked…maybe they could ask him to put forward his case, and throw a little bit of light on what happened…
If he exists, that is.
At least they’re keeping their fans in the loop…or a noose, depending on how you look at it.
Cup games ? The knockout stages of the League Cup begin in August, and are once a month until the final in December. They’re not being overly optimistic about the ground being ready anytime soon, are they ?
These two pictures were taken weeks apart….one on the 21st of June, the other the 8th of July
The progress report reads;
” Moved crane along a bit ”
Fortunately, their support can look forward to our intrepid investigative mainstream reporters rooting around the place to get to the truth.
Although, one does understand that any digging of dirt around Ibrox may cause the place to fall down, so they’ll have to be careful.
Mind you, it’s not all bad news for the bears….
At WWE Clash at the Castle, WWE faced backlash after releasing merchandise that was very clearly inspired/based up on the home kit of the Glasgow Rangers, formerly Rangers, football team.
The design was later pulled, however, during a recent Rangers fan advisory board meeting the topic of WWE came up and Rangers are more than open to working with the sports entertainment giants.
Speaking on the matter, the Rangers Business Growth Director, Natalie Nairn, revealed that the club are in talks with the WWE.
CH mentioned the WWE ‘Clash at the Castle’ top being dropped due to its resemblance to the Rangers strip and asked if there was any chance of expanding the link with WWE.
NN advised that this is scope to look at a collaboration and are in contact with WWE.”
We await the media announcement

That’s all good and well, but what IF the crane moves ?
It does move, as in pix above, and it can go all the way to the other side and block out the Onion Bears, which is a win-win.

I’m so embarrassed. I clicked that link to Clement, my wife came in from hanging out the washing and I had to rapidly switch to a porn site in case she saw me looking at rangers news and thought I’d gone weird on her. Think I got away with it but hope she doesn’t look at my browser history
My wife was the opposite to be fair, much to my own great embarrassment, but we’re both quite happy with the arrangement now.

Although it would be disappointing to lose another prospect (and that’s all he is), given the track record of his predecessors how long before Kelly The Boy From Killie?
I would be pleasantly surprised if we ended up with Kelleher, as he didn’t look out of place in the rarified atmosphere at Liverpool. There was also talk of £10-15m and EPL clubs interest, so they were either BS or perhaps just a loan, which simply kicks the can down the road to next season.
“The 6-4 friendly win over Queen’s Park was certainly a way of dusting off the cobwebs, and not too much should be read into it”
Au contraire, this is horrific and even our 2nd, 3rd and 4th choice defenders shouldn’t be beaten up this badly.
Still, I’m sure, it’ll all be alright in the upcoming Vanity Games, when we pretend to be amongst the best teams in the World. 😉
Yeah can’t bring myself to attempt a caption comment here. Was going to draft Ricky Gervais into it. But nah.
No way Kelleher will be at Celtic…
So it looks very much like Kasper Schmeichel will be the man to take over the Celtic nº 1 jersey for this upcoming season. Although many will understandably criticise this as a desperate stop-gap measure to fill a gaping void and one that’s lacking in imagination and ambition, reeking of the board’s renowned biscuit-tin mentality etc etc.,I’d like to try to put a slightly more positive spin on this.
The big Dane has still been competing at a high level, kept himself in top condition and would prove to be a notch above big Joe in certain technical aspects of play such as dealing with cross balls, commanding the area and ball distribution. He also has leadership qualities though not to the same extent as big Joe, who was very special in that sense. I think a safe and experienced pair of hands is required but I do believe that with Siegrist on his way out, we’ll be moving for a second new goalie, hopefully a hot prospect in his early to mid 20s from an Eastern European league (where goalkeeping standards are high) that can be acquired at an affordable price who can shove Bain down the pecking order and compete to become 1st choice throughout the season ahead with a view to making the jersey his own for the following one. Wishful thinking I know, but it’ll be interesting to see how this pans out.
I reckon Paulo Bernardo will be the next one to come in but won’t be in time to catch the plane to D.C.
I’m in the “criticise this as a desperate stop-gap measure to fill a gaping void” camp.
How long has it been since the club have known that Hart was levaving? Publicly its been since February but, I assume, the club would have known, at least, a month or 2 before that.
Its so typically Celtic to, seemingly, leave it until the summer to start looking rather than to be proactive.
I was not over-enthused when Hart joined but there were extenuating circumstances to go for a veteran keeper due to the state of the club at the time.
I take the points about Schmeichel being superior to Hart in a number of key areas but its only a 1 year deal and we know when we’ll start looking for his successor.
Hopefully that’s only 1 year to see how it goes and, if it goes well, that’ll be extended year on year.
He’s the same age as Hart, who despite his increased form towards the end of the season, was in notable decline from the high of his 1st and 2nd seasons.
I agree with your sentiments regarding a new 2nd keeper but can’t see it happening, as we’re still stuck at signing long term projects as backups.
TBF It’s a tough sell to sign highly rated players to be 2nd fiddle in Scottish Football.
Hope you’re keeping well Cha. As usual, you make very valid points and, given our transfer history and the state of the market, it’s impossible not to be very sceptical about our possibilities of bringing in the right personnel during this window. It’s pretty shocking not to have moved in on a new keeper much sooner given the Joe Hart circumstances and only an out and out calamity such as Ronnie D’s side losing a cup semi to second division Sevco or the covid season (which led to a complete rebuild brilliantly orchestrated by Ange) seems to bring about a summer window that really transforms the team for the better. A sad state of affairs.
Today’s news is that Oh will be flying out to Genk for a medical and that Idah has not been included in the Norwich squad for their next friendly without there being any reports of him being injured. At least that sounds quite encouraging.
Don’t know if I can be arst staying up far into the middle of the night to see the first two friendlies in the US but the Chelsea game in Indiana starts a lot earlier so that could be a good one for the pub. The boost in opposition quality should benefit the players.
Hope you’re well Cha. You make very valid points here. My longer reply didn’t get through the barbed wire but will hopefully pop up soon.
On your very last point, in top tier footballing terms, guys playing in countries such as Romania, Serbia, Poland etc are on peanut wages so a big club like Celtic that is offering champions league football among other things could have a lot of leverage in tempting young talents to make such a move at least as ‘their next stepping stone’. Obviously the very top ones playing over there will be receiving offers from the richer leagues. In the case of a possible 2nd goalkeeper signing, some guarantee of first team action should be given, whether that be in the form of both domestic cup competitions or a minimum quota of league appearances. He would have the added benefit of learning directly from a quality pro like Schmeichel. On second thoughts though, you’re probably right in saying that such a move is unlikely to happen knowing how our board operate.
I agree with you about talent in ‘lesser’ leagues but always feel that our board have a Can’t Do attitude when it comes to doing something different and better.
According to Phil Mac Giolla Bháin there’s a half-decent 31yo keeper in Glasgow, who might fit the backup keeper role.
“Jack Butland submitting a transfer request with a modest release clause in his contract”
I’m well and hope you are to.

My wife is an occasional wheelchair sufferer so the joke may be a little insensitive for some but I don’t mind, if that helps.
The problem is always the balance between the rich and the poor, or in this case, the helpless in the wheelchair and what those able bodied are capable of around her.
Often this creates an unexpected dilemma for both parties, with both equally accommodating provided there is communication and understanding in our mutual search for peace and tranquility, though it has to be said that not everyone can achieve this due to our misnomer of an education system and our inbred feelings about pleasure and guilt.
Testing testing
Even if we sign Kasper, Bernardo and Adam we have not improved the squad!
Schmeichel should be an upgrade on latter day Hart but we’ve not really improved the team since Ange’s 1st season.
