Celtic Diary Tuesday June 13: The Final Meltdown ?

Over the last couple of days, our own intrepid but pish soaked investigative team have had their ears to the ground. Which is completely pointless, especially if they’re trying to hear anything.

But the rumblings they have picked up seem to suggest that not only are the support split over the possible, indeed probably impending, return of Brendan Rodgers, but the board and the club itself are at loggerheads.

And that’s not Loggerheads, the quaint English village near Market Drayton.

As it stands, at least we believe, Rodgers is having a meeting with Dermot Desmond, who will be 73 in August, and is behaving exactly like any other septagenarian  with little else to get him excited.

Almost to the point of obsession, he wants Rodgers to be the next manager.

Michael Nicholson ants his pal in as well, and you’d think those two, the CEO and the largest shareholder would get their way, and they probably will.

But Peter Lawwell has put a fair chunk of his life into the club, whether you like it or not, and is largely responsible for the current financial status of the club.

Whether you like it or not.

And frankly, he doesn’t want to see the bank balance crashed by someone who isn;t very good when it comes to picking players.

In context, the board would have been happy to trust Postecoglou when it comes to buying players, but they’re not so keen on Rodgers having the same leeway.

Which is why Lawwell wants Maresco, but won’t get his way.

Unless he manages to raise enough collateral to buy Desmond out.

There is little or no evidence to support this theory that Lawwell is out and about, or was out and about,  trying to raise, say middle eastern investment….

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell is in the Middle East but is it for another international club tie-up? - Daily Record

That was in 2016 during a visit to Saudi club Al Wasl.

After the Dubai training camp debacle, contact seemed to have been lost with the middle east, but with Celtic, via Lawwell and son, pretty much hitched to the city group horse and it’s own financial backers, this story hasn’t gone away.

So, if any of this is true, which would be a notable first for this particular site, then whilst Rodgers and Desmond may not be everyone’s first choice, certainly not mine, it’s a far better choice than selling our souls for Arab gold.

Mind you, we can;t help wondering if the bit we heard about Rodgers being interviewed at Leeds for their managerial post is true.

Most fans accept he’ll be away at some point during his next tenure, should that happen, but for fucks sake at least get the job before you jump ship.

The uncertainty is making us all a bit miserable, I’ve even returned to my addiction to soft cheese, which my wife finds hilarious, the laughing cow.

So let’s try to cheer ourselves up.

We’ll start with this, from Kyogo Fuhruhashi…

Image

It’s perhaps a blessing that three of our Japanese stars are with their national squad, away from all the tittle tattle.

Although there may be a concern that the loan to permanent deal for Tokami Iwata hasn;t been announced yet. His loan expired on June 9 and there has been no news on him staying.

And Ange Postecoglou is finding out that being Tottenham manager just means you get to talk to the press. Already it appears he hasn’t quite got the say in football matters that he maybe expected.

Man Utd told to ‘honour’ Harry Maguire agreement amid Tottenham transfer interest

Harry Maguire has been tipped to join Tottenham in the summer transfer window, with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag understood to be open to selling the Red Devils captain

Ange “We Never Stop ” Postecoglou is going to spend £40m on Harry Maguire ?

Boy , did we dodge a bullet .

And we are led to believe that this story has legs, as Maguire’s agent was spotted taking the player to a meeting with Spurs supremo Daniel Levy.

Remember , if things don’t look so rosy at home, pop out for a bit and have a hearty chuckle at those less fortunate than ourselves.

Such as our wonderful and impartial sports media, who are running a selection of articles where ex Celts and “rangers ” players are warning us against hiring Rodgers, which in itself suggests they either know something or think they know something.

And whilst we should be aiming a little higher than hiring someone purely to annoy those basket cases, it is quite amusing.

Charlie Nicholas, who “writes ” for the Express, said;

“I wouldn’t take Brendan Rodgers back as Celtic manager.

“You just have to look at the bridges that were broken when he quit Parkhead mid-season for Leicester City in 2019.

“And with Peter Lawwell being back in the building too, I don’t think it fits. In terms of style, Rodgers would be a clever appointment but I just don’t see how that relationship can ever be mended.”

You can see he’s given it some thought, and one can only wonder what is going through his mind.

Celtic Diary Friday April 13: Celts Play Down Semi Final – ETims

Chunky funster Ally McCoist praised Rodgers, but then added, almost in a way that mirrored Mark Antony’s speech in Julius Caesar   (Shakespeare, for any barbarians from over the river who have stumbled onto this page by mistake ) by concluding that some fans won’t like it.  a sort of Brendan is an honourable man, but the fans know he’s a lady’s front bottom.

“He’d be brilliant. I think Brendan is a great coach. The only thing I would say is there is a good section of the Celtic support who weren’t happy when he left and they think the manner he left in wasn’t acceptable.

Still, at least his team might get that fellow from Bordeaux they want, as him club didn’t get promoted so he’s available for free.

Seeing as how they won’t get Marek Tillman from Bayern because those pesky Germans want the £5m they agreed on when they agreed on it, there will be more spin about the endless line of diddies they are bringing in to replace the likes of Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos, and the money they have to spend is almost exactly what they reigned in for the two, there will be a lot of creative writing about their new “stars “.

By the way, the story about Bayern demanding more for Tillman because of his performances in a “rangers ” shirt are, of cause, completely men’s dangly bits.  the fee was agreed before he pulled on that shirt, and the simple fact is he’s out of their price range.

Largely because there is a price.

Anyway, back to our impending civil war, and Scott Brown is ready to enter the fray.

He’ll be the new manager and the first thing on his list is to bang together the heads of the protagonists , tell them to behave themselves and then lead the players down London Road with a few cans and a few choruses of “On The One Road”

And I have the audacity to say Charlie Nicholas has a head full of bunny rabbits.

Pretty good Diary but: “But Peter Lawwell has put a fair chunk of his life into the club, whether you like it or not, and is largely responsible for the current financial status of the club.”
1) You’re inferring a financial glutton was somehow really a philanthropist with Celtic at heart. My arse.
2) He was involved in Brendan’s departure, “whether you like it or not”!
3) Lawwell’s parsimonious approach (like most bean-counters) actually cost us a fortune in lost CL revenue.
I can’t believe you’re coming out in his corner.
Brendan has proven talent but, like most humans, he has his frailties too but he’s STILL learning and look what he brought us last time.
Maresca didn’t do too well at Parma and maybe assistant is his best role.
Knutsen from Bodo Glimt at this point would be my 2nd choice, 2nd to Brendan.
Remember for ALL managers, it’s just a job, strictly business. Loyalty is mostly with us supporters and OUR club, the wonderful Glasgow Celtic.
Hail! Hail!

Agreed, this so called ‘Diary’ has been nothing but a Lawwell Love-A-Thon all week.

How Ralph can even attempt to rewrite the true story by denying the reality of what Lawwell has done to the club in using it as his personal Bonus Grabber is just beyond belief.

I’m amused by the amazing spending power of “the rangers” who are, according to the press, throwing money around at deals all over the world. I think if you added up what the press were saying they were offering for various players, then add wages AND TAX etc would be over 15 million. Moonbeams! A few free transfers will be their best efforts and maybe one signing to sell season tickets.

If I was being uncharitable, I would say the fat, lazy, greedy cunt has taken out far bigger chunks.

As I’m not then I won’t.

Brendan returning looks a done deal right now. Can he repair the biggest black mark on his career and win the Green Brigade back round? If the leagues keep on coming and improvements in Europe and a few hun skelpings, it may still be not enough for some. I feel it will work out, but for how long? He will have learnt not to quit halfway surely. Celtic glory over-rides all things and he is certainly better than Beale. COYBIG!

somPeter Lawwell has a better eye for a player than Brendan Rodgers?!

The guy who bought over 40 duds with his Moneyball scheme that failed miserably?

And this on top of trashing BR the other day without mentioning Lawwell’s part in the whole affair once?

Guess who’s been slipping Ralph tenners under the table?

Or did Paul Brennan do it for him?

On top of that, Brendan Rodgers was the first manager and only individual to take the Annual Turnover above 100 million quid!

And you’re crediting Lawwell for this when it was Rodgers himself?

Do you think we’re all idiots just because some of your readers are?

So that you, Paul Brennan, James Forrest and Phil McGiggly Juice all taking Lawwell’s side on this debacle.

Now what are the fvckin odds on that, that every Celtic blogger has Lawwell’s hand up their arses?

I had you lot pegged years ago.
