Celtic Diary Wednesday May 19: The Final Straw

In the early hours of this morning, the home of Peter Lawwell was the subject of an attack.

Somone threw a petrol bomb or similar device at one of his cars, causing serious damage to the property.

Fortunately, no one was hurt.

I’m not going to speculate on who might have done it. Thats for others to do when they find cctv images.

I’m not going to suggest what punishment they should receive, again, thats for others.

A few years ago, Lawwell told me that he worried about the staff at Celtic Park who opened the mail during the period when bullets and bombs were making headlines.

Lawwell, for all his faults, lives and breathes Celtic, and although we may differ in our opinions about how things are done, whatever he did he always did it in what he thought were the best interests of the club.

And there was always the risk that someone, somewhere would take it personally and do something like what happened this morning.

It happened to Neil Lennon, it has happened to countless supporters, and now its happened to the CEO.

We can no longer be associated with “rangers ” and their brand, and we can no longer be involved in a sporting environment that tolerates them.

The way I see it, its time for Celtic to withdraw from this poisonous environment.

It’s simply not worth it.

If that means joining the lower reaches of the English league, so be it.

Or anywhere else for that matter.

Enough is enough, its simply not worth it any more.

Our revenge, too, can be the laughter of our children.

Leave them all to rot in their own mess.

I do not agree with Lawwell or Banksie and wish to high above they would call it a day, but yes, this is far too crazy to even contemplate. Football is a sport, no more, no less and ridiculous comments stating otherwise, Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it’s much more serious than that, Shankly, are funny in normal circumstances but in reality are not. And setting off bombs and sending mail intending to maim or kill are simply horrendous. We all have loved ones who would suffer also. Please just stop, this is the work of monsters. HH!

Unfortunately I think it’s likely to be a so called Celtic fan who is sickened by where we are at.
That will be a gift to Scottish media and politicians. It will not be that we are associated with “rangers”. The message will be that we are worse than them. We will be told police efforts need to concentrate on this heinous crime so the events of the weekend can fade into the background.

Point taken. Life is more important, but has Howe seen this and does it effect his decision as to coming to Glasgow, especially if he has a family, would you really wish to expose your loved ones to this? HH!

Why would it be a Celtic fan ? Was it Celtic fans who assaulted NFL and sent bullets / made death threats. No.

Our season was finished weeks if not months ago – has your so called Celtic fan just realised this ?

The timing of this is very interesting.

Do you really think Celtic leaving Scotland to play elsewhere would stop this?
The The Rangers would be masters of all they survey in Scotland, their fans would become even more supremacist, more aggressive.
This has to be cured within Scotland.

As yet there is not enough evidence to speculate who might have been behind this.

I would merely pose the question, who benefits? ( Cui bono )

Suddenly we’re not talking about the huns’ racist/sectarian/thuggish behaviour anymore.

Thank God,Peter and his family are physically unhurt.I posted a while back that the reason that our CEO couldn’t be seen to be the guy fighting the cause of Res 12 was because he lived in Glasgow and would be targeted. Still, the Res 12 crew bleated on about Peter and the board not stepping up. You maybe now understand why he was reluctant? As I stated the other day, the peepul can’t wait to finish Celtic off and their reach is a long one. Davie Hay was correct years ago, we should leave the midden, WE are so much better….

Mike.

Crazy Peepul, or is it? There’s a lot of hate around, nearly all of it associated with the club from Govan, we have all witnessed it this week. No-one deserves this disgusting, dangerous treatment, putting families lives at risk. The irony is that for me, with his 5Way Agreement signature and his treatment regarding Resolution 11-12, he has probably been one of the biggest “Same Club” advocates in promoting the “Old Firm” brand, something that disgusts me to my core. Being tangled up with them is inits self sickening, so yes I fully agree tell them to GTF. Meanwhile Ian Maxwell is still hiding in his Hampden bunker, the 5Way author Neil Doncaster is both deaf and dumb as “Strict Liability” moves ever closer. The new Celtic manager whoever he is, with his team and the DoF should join Dominic McKay in living in the Edinburgh area.

Shocking act of vandalism by a couple of morons. That his daughter and a baby of four months were in the property makes their actions attempted murder. The issue here is that there are clowns involved in the so called Old Firm brand that think it is about the darkside on the south side. I agree that the club is bigger than this and should look for an escape avenue, we may lose some supporters but it is about Celtic Football Club. The media that have been desperately using deflectors. Raising sectarianism as they did on BBC Scotland News to draw in the Celtic support will jump on this and blame our fans. Also this was not the only petrol bombing of cars in Lanarkshire over the last few nights.

It’s 2021, it’s not remotely like 1690, it just sometimes feels like we have gone back in time, back to a much darker age. 1690 came to George Square, 1690 still walk’s the streets of Scotland’s towns and cities, scum still cum at the thought of spitting on Catholic clergy. It’s gut wrenching, stomach churning thinking how we can be one part of 1690. Tied to the Boyne walkers, the sash endowed, the bowler hatted, white gloved racist bigots. Enough is enough, but is it, as the scum still hide behind the EU’s human right’s laws that gives them the thumbs up and the right to walk without fear or favour. But, what about our right’s? our right to a peaceful existence, our right to go to church? why should we have to put up with racist, sectarian shouts and singing? Surely in 2021 we should be forward thinking and speak up for equality, our equality. Let them go and celebrate their Kulture Klub somewhere else. Here in Scotland, it still seems that equality is only one sided, for to long it’s benefited others, but never us. Remember 1995 Mark Scott. Nil By Mouth Where R U.

I concur; very articulate and incisive comment Mike. Surely to goodness civic Scotland must look at the issues of Orange walks on the streets of Scotland this summer. We have more here than they have in the Six Counties ffs! I understand the point about human rights laws, presumably British HR now as we are no longer in EU, have same ideals of freedom of expression etc but as you say this cuts both ways. If the majority of the population have to live in fear of a repetition of the George Square carnage every time one of these parades pollutes their streets then surely there has to be some sort of action taken. This will be the first tangible test of the seriousness and sincerity of civic Scotland’s professed intention to tackle Scotland’s ‘dirty little secret’ of anti-Irish racism and anti- Catholic discrimination. For starters they should not be allowed near the city centre. They should not be allowed to disrupt the ordinary lives of their fellow citizens who have no interest in their posturing and prancing through our streets. So, at the very least, we should have a significant reduction in the number of permits issued for parades and these should be given very clear instructions on their routes. This small step would show there is, at last, some intention to tackle the Fascist element who seek to intimidate and bully all in their path.

Christina, It’s actually the European Convention On Human Right’s. Formed by the Council Of Europe, it’s much larger than the 28- now 27 EU states. The ECHR has 47 state members as opposed to 27. It was mainly drafted by UK lawyers in 1950 and signed off in Rome. “Amora Italia”. So totally seperate and the EUs leading Council, it was based on the U.Ns. charter for Human Right’s and the UK is still a member. The UK passed an act in 1998 to incorporate it into UK law.
Article 11: Freedom of Assembly and Association, to protest, hold meetings, demonstrate, but it can be adjusted by local councils. The EDL, everybody has the right of assembly, even the scum, but if it doesn’t comply with the law, then it can be banned, like by criminal behaviour. The thing is if you do ban them, then they can point to all marches like AUOB, or other marches. I have written to Glasgow City Council many times to protest about their criminal behaviour, they are very sympathetic, but their hands are tied. For me its about reduction, 350? marches every year is 350? too many, but your points as usual are extremely relevant and well stated.

I’m an Indy supporter but the truth is Sturgeon’s SNP, like the Labour party before them, has no interest in tackling anti-Catholic bigotry – there’s no votes in it. (The Tories, of course, actively encourage it since Ruth Davidson’s time as leader). They all live in fear of the hunnish hordes, just like the football authorities. The Catholic/Irish community in Scotland has been too passive for too long. We need to organise much like the civil rights movement in the six counties did back in the day to make our voices heard. Otherwise we’ll be shoved to the back of the bus again.

From a contributer to Wings Over Scotland:

I’m not bitter. I’ll leave that to the lumpen proletariat clad in orange to despoil our biggest city with their rotten stink of sectarian rage and siege mentality. Craven bitches of England bedecked in the blood soaked (mainly their own) flags of surrender to the German royalty they worship in their begotten stupidity and ignorance. There is your true evidence of colonial success. Grown men pissing on the cenotaph, which commemorates the 148,000 Scottish dead in WW1 and the 62,000 in WW2. Yet these blue baboons celebrate an Irish victory by King Billy on behalf of the Pope above this sacrifice of Scottish manhood.

I used to urge the Police and Government to face up to the challenge of this paramilitary inspired crowd. But I realise now that it is part of the strategy by demonstrating the complete impotence (and collusion) of the Scottish ruling elite in the face of loyalist aggression. Make no mistake, this performance at the weekend was aimed as a warning to us to not get above ourselves.

Here’s the thing, my opinion only: Five million EU Nationals applied for settled status in the UK. Nearly Scotland’s population, Scotland needs to expand its population massively. The English do not want anymore immigrants, that’s patently obvious, the solution surely is to request that any EU Nationals commit to a period of time to settle in Scotland, maybe that’s too Orwellian, too simplistic, but surely must be a consideration? Remember the Lawrence Inquiry into racism in the Met Police, that again IMO is what’s needed into Police Scotland, far to many many in blue, support the men in blue. Too many ex PSNI in Police Scotland, too many Irish racist bigots, it needs to be tackled big time.

Best wishes to PL and his family. What an embarrassment of a country over the past few days. It’s only going to get worse as a forward thinking, progressive government sets out it’s stall against the ‘let the neds get on with it’ approach of the Tories and Labour. No cheap point scoring. There is no one the LOL hates more than the SNP and you can take that hatred of freedom loving patriots back to the Glencoe Massacre.

‘You have a Scottish Football Association group for equality and diversity which doesn’t name this as an issue. My question regarding these events would be, why would a fan/supporter do that now? The season is done, the ten is gone, our anger is, while not gone completely gone it’s not the rage/anger most fans felt from the CL failure, defeat to Ross County, defeats to sevco, piss poor performance against Hertz and all the way through to the departure of NL that when our anger was at the incandescent phase. So why now, it makes no sense whatsoever. I think that whoever it was only meant to torch 1 car but like so many of these things the fire got out of hand and ended up as it did. The next question I would pose is who would benefit from a change in the current media focus?
All speculation I understand but I hope that the plod will be asking the same or similar questions rather than, Celtic have had a disastrous season, their fans are not happy so it must be a discontented fan! Lastly as much as I think PL has been the architect of his on downfall I would not wish any of this on him or his family and I genuinely hope that the person(s) responsible are caught and that they face the full force of the Scottish legal system (no laughing at the back).

I’ve no truck with racism. Fought against it all my life. The BLM movement I support. With one caveat. It’s now receiving the support it’s due. Irish catholic lives in Scotland? Different story. My grandfather was born in another country, his first language wasn’t English. His family home was destroyed by the sea in a storm and his family offered him up to the English big house for a pound. He decided to take his chances in Scotland. The language was Gaelic, the country Ireland. He came here and worked hard during the day and, for a time, volunteered as night watchman, as three times they tried to burn down his church as it was built. I’ve been told that being white makes me privellaged. I agree. But not him. And to this day many others. Irish catholic lives matter. To hell with our day will come. Our day is now.

It’s a short hop across the Irish Sea, from Stranraer to Larne, 17 miles to be precise, a nothing journey to enter the world of the bonfire igniters. Some Scots made that short journey in the very early 1600s. From Galloway (Reivers) – Lanarkshire – Renfrewshire – Ayrshire. Egged on by the promise of milk and honey. “Protestants Welcome”, only protestants, a few Catholics had settled in these fluid times in the ‘Glens of Antrim’, in the 1500s. But the 1600s was very different, these Scots settled in Gaelic speaking, rural, Catholic Ireland, 70% were Scots and 30% English protestants were ‘planted’ and life, like strife, war, with not much peace would continue unabated till now. Populations were fluid, they had to be to survive, look at the indigenous people of America and Australia. The Reformation happened in Scotland 1560 – 1570, life became very turbulent and trouble followed trouble, it had a seismatic affect. The Reformation happened in many other European Countries not just here in Scotland, why then does the poison of sectarianism continue here? Is it the lure of returning to their early beginnings, to find like minded Kultures, their spiritual home, their Brethern? The Ferries are exceptionally busy in April, May, June and July.
What is wrong with the Scottish Psyche that lends itself to these creatures from the past, with double chips on their shoulders, that entertains such small minded bigotry? Not If, but when Ireland achieves re-unification, remember these small 17 miles that seperate us, 1600 – 1690- 2021 – OO.

I’m still getting the vibe from Celtic sites that if we appoint a new manager everyone is going to be all happy clappy & go outside, pick some daisies whilst singing the theme tune to butterflies.
It is papering over the cracks, our club is a shambles & it’s all the fault of the boardroom members who despise us.

I will not be going back for a long time, unless they go.

Well done to the Dark blues of Dundee, like ken.
A fine ending for the club who showed great sporting integrity when they had the casting, deciding vote last season.

Good luck to them in the new season 🙂
