Question Time

Okay, we all know WHAT SHOULD BE DONE, however, at this precise point in time ( caveat- could change before start of next Stock Exchange day!) we currently are where we are.

Lennon is the Manager, Kennedy and Strachan helping him out.

Now we know the team is a shambles, we can see the players are all over the place, when they are moving at all, and we can loudly sigh given the tactics are non existent.

So as it  seems the current case that we shall continue to carry on with present personnel in charge, heres a few questions:

1: The Defence. There is none. And there is no defence for that. What exactly are they being told on the training ground or NOT being told. Do we need to hire a new coach to help them out at the back?

2: Set pieces are a shambles and the coverage is terrible. The lack of strong communication is clear and players need to be as one when it comes to defending set pieces. Do we even do drills? Do we research our oppositions key players? Talk is that Lenny delegates training to Kennedy and Strachan, maybe time to get more hands on wee man?

3: Penalties – why are we so clumsy? Where is the composure inside our own box?..how is it possible for talented players to make Jack Hendry seem calm in comparison to the shell shocked Hoops at present?

4: The right hand side. Since Forrest got injured, its been one empty showing after another. Jamesie wasnt on form before his injury but at least gave us balance out on the right to Mo on the left. Now we have Frimpong or El-Hamed not knowing what to do in the final 3rd whilst leaving massive gaps at the back or Christie just dancing around hoping to shoot on sight. With no immediate return for Forrest, what can we do to restore balance across the park?

5: Strikers on strike. You look at big Eddie and he looks half asleep. Ajeti is a passenger in most games and the pairing isnt working. Least not yet. Griffiths is the only player who seems to be able to make an impact from the bench as Klimala is just not up to the demands placed upon his shoulders.  There is a lot to down-cry about a lack of service sending our strikers to sleep but injuries aside, Cant we get Griff and Eddie playing together ?

6: Heady 3 touch. Remember Heady 2 touch as a wean. Loved that game. Didnt expect to see a Celtic team take it to lower levels mind. If the ball isnt being lazily headed up in the air in hope, our players stand with it at their feet and take at least 3 touches, sometimes even more. Wheres the one touch or 1-2 touch and move attitude gone, look down the sofa and under the stairs as we need it back pronto. The slow ball and lack of movement is a joy for the opposition.

7: The Engine room – more powder than puff. Do we have a tackler in our side? Do we have someone with attitude who is snarling and fighting every second to ensure victory? Nope. We have a bunch of “talented players” in Christie, Mo, Rogic and Calmac who can dance but they cant dig. Broony is a yard off the pace so the game just passes him by. All that means is the Celts get tired and the Opposition get quickly up the park. We need more muscle as we are just too weak at present or will Peter just say “Play Soro!”?

8: The Hero Play. Lenny has to ask himself how his team can win games. At present he just seems to be hoping an enthusiastic Laxalt can run about and do something, or a classy Rogic turn and thunderbolt will hit the net. Perhaps Christie can beat 3 players and send the ball home? Its all very singular and once players are nullified, the threat is removed. We need to get the team playing as one and moving as one, why dont we hit the by-line, why dont we  play 1-2s, why does Barkas have to look for someone to play a quick ball too and then stand there when he realises no-one is expecting or wanting it?

9: The Best side for the next game. Does anyone know what our best side is? Does anyone know where the players Lenny is picking each week are meant to be playing? There is no clear direction or formation. Are we 4-3-3 or 3-5-2 or 4-5-1, the players look as if they dont have a clue and Lenny and Kennedy sit looking at Strachans laptop as if they are choosing what Pakora to snack on after the game.

10: The players. Do they care? I assume professional pride is always there but its hard to see anyone angry in the current line up. The shoulders are down and the heads are slumped. That is understandable under the circumstances BUT the players cant sit and wait on a new Manager to revitalise them. Even if they dont like playing under the current boss, not giving 100% in blood, sweat, tears and snotters during this troubled time will never be forgotten by the fans. If a player wants away then let them go,  those Lenny cited earlier in the season should have been moved on or sidelined back then. Does Lawwell have the bottle to clean house and finance a fresh start for the squad?

Any questions from you in respect to what can be done SHOULD the current management structure be retained?

What does PL actually do to justify his enormous salary and bonus?

What would the current team identity be described as ?

Who chose the current Coaching Team ?

Who makes the decisions on player and staff recruitment ?

How far in advance do we plan our recruitment?

What background and personality checks happen on possible transfer targets?

What is causing our fitness levels to be so poor ?

Why do we always have a long list of players on the sidelines every season ?

How many players from our Youth and Under 23 Ranks are good enough to make the step up ?

Does anyone know what our best side is?
No – we buy players and don’t give them game time. We probably haven’t put our best side on the pitch yet so how do we know what it is.
We played a recent Europa tie with no striker as the 2 that were not injured, Kilmala and Ajeti , “were not match fit”.
We signed Klimala in January ffs. Why why was he not match fit 8 or 9 months later.
Any questions from you in respect to what can be done SHOULD the current management structure be retained?
If the current management structure is retained we should all give up and go home.

The solution first and foremost is Sack Lennon and his management team, that includes Kennedy, if he’s responsible fur coaching and training then get him as far away from Celtic as possible, the players have never responded tae anytime Lennon has tried because they dont want him there, they don’t trust in his management style, ( does he even have one) they dont trust in his coaching, his tactics, his team selection, so the players hoped back in September that if they chucked it, got some piss poor performances and results, then Lennon would get sacked, and in any other club he would/should have, but its Celtic and its Lawell, a man who’s ego has decimated Celtic this season, if he thinks treating the fans like muppets will carry on forever, then hes in fur a monumental shock next season when season book renewal fall off the cliff, act now with a new manager, and by some kind of miracle we might salvage the 10, carry on, and the 10 is definitely gone, and a return tae the 1990s is on the cards at Celtic…

Lenny’s time is up, I’m disappointed that it’s ended this way as I’ve loved the guy since he pulled on the hoops for the first time!!

As for the rabble outside the stadium last night I am totally disgusted by the behaviour, we’re all pissed off how things are going but that was OTT!! Not forgetting despite being in tier 4 there was no social distancing, no face masks. How many of them cretins will go home or mix socially with folk who work in care homes, etc??

Pathetic, bang goes getting back in the ground anytime soon.

What happened outside the stadium is being blown up in the media as deflection from the board’s failings.

I see no missiles being thrown in any of the vids online and am reliably informed that no cars were damaged nor were any coppers hurt in any way.

It was a pissed off group of overexcited boys rightfully exercising their right to gather in protest at being locked up by their own government on behalf of the entire Celtic support who are sick of being treated like idiot cash cows for the millionaires and billionaire ripping off our club.

As for the rest, how come tens of thousands of people are gathering in cities across the world every weekend against this inhumane lockdown yet none of them are catching Covid?

And why isn’t that fact being reported in the media?

Or the fact that these peaceful gatherings are even happening at all?

From what I’ve gathered and can see with my own eyes last night’s events were nothing, with no violence recorded.

Also no mention in today’s media of ANY ‘protest outside Peter Lawwell’s house’, a claim that was apparently made by ‘a Celtic fan who lives on the same street’ …

You see how easy it is for a lie to be spread?

Well said Big Don.
The Celtic support is the greatest supporters in the world until they ask questions of the Board – then they are . . . ”that mob!”
Pedro Lawwell is up to his triple chin in secret collusions and corruption.
Winning the Ten not as important to him as his LARGE salary and HUGE bonus.
If it was left to Lenny he would have walked by now but he’s being worked by Pedro until the Cup Final in December when its hoped that it will all blow over.
Time for a supporters Boycott.

Stated last week we aren’t getting 10.Spoke to two players on phone last night, one who didn’t even play, was crying in pure f.ckin frustration and shame.Other guy told me chapter and verse.Anonymity assured and conversation off the record. What we do need is a complete clear out, coaches, multiple players and fans who turned up and acted like the scum across the river. There are so many changes to be made. Some more questions, why do we never score from corners or dead ball situations?Yet,even against any team, these situations cause severe palpitations amongst us and our “defenders”.Edouard?Certainly not the best striker at Parkhead, his value is plummeting.Last night was utterly shameful….

They’ll stay. Always the manager goes they’re not going to sack themselves unless Dermott makes the call. A complete overhaul mid season is unwise. Lennon won’t be pushed out the door. He will walk or he won’t. I’m caught in the middle here. Unless there’s a manager waiting they won’t change it. I’ve actually got admiration for Lennon by sticking to his guns. But and it’s a big but he may realise he has compromised his own credibility, evaluate his ineffectual tenure this season and will walk himself.

Cheers, Ian, I agree that Neil will be the patsy for the board and most likely won’t work in football for a good long while so I understand why he won’t resign without getting his due compo from the board.

I don’t even begrudge him it now as he was set up as a patsy from the beginning and I’ve only recently been alerted as to how much money has been squandered by this board over these past few years.

The only caveat I would add is that Lennon’s compo should come out of Peter’s wages as it was his failure to employ him and he should pay for it.

It’ll never happen but in any other industry you pay the price for your own mistakes.

Worst of all about this train wreck is that Desmond hasn’t seen this car crash coming, or, worse again, has allowed it to happen as part of the grubby filth of the 5WA to keep the famous ‘Blue Pound’ in Scottish football with the Blue Bigotry keeping Scotland divided as part of the package.

But that the only time we hear anything out of this gang of thieves & chancers has been against our own support is the worst thing of all.

Even the Hun boards haven’t acted against Celtic fans the way our own board has.

And they’ll never be forgiven for that.

The whole premise was that rangers wouldn’t get their act together. Not us improving, they have in spades. Gerard et al have been underestimated. Our recruitment is appalling. 3 million for bayo, qpr get dykes for two million, McGinn goes to villa cheap. Shved, klimala etc the list goes on. We are clueless. They buy roofe who has if nothing else has a worldly in him. Gerard was a top class footballer he knows who can play, he knows who to offload he knows what it takes. We don’t the last great player we signed was dembele and to a lesser extent Eduoard. It’s not fucking rocket science

Desi the problem is the management, no cohesive structure and not bringing in fresh blood. When you look at last year the only real difference id Laxalt and whichever goalkeeper.
Lennon at press interviews at times looks really rough from the night before how do you gain respect that way.
The Lenny JPK and Strachan team seems less of a team than three individuals. Yesterday Strachan stared at his laptop’ for divine inspiration?’ JPK looked at his mobile, do you remember Mo doing the same.
You can blame the players, the tea lady whoever but since the start of last season it has been a disaster, Think back to the last BetFred game against them, thank Gid for the wall. There has been a lot of kidology at Celtic, why has there not been a search for decent defenders, Ayer and Bitton midfielders. Why Gordon and Hayes got rid off. Why not play Ajer in midfield or upfront. Why no Soros Turnbull, Connel or is it only the inner circle with Lenny?
He is a Celtic legend but he should have been replaced before now, think previous far better managers bumped.
We will get the usual look at his win rate, but yesterday it was not getting beat Ross County deserved it, but the manner of the defeat, the same as 5he manner of the wins.

The Cha

Reply to  Cartvale88

I mentioned before how the ‘win ratio’ measure was misleading, as it takes no account of the criticality of games, meaningless end of season games and cup ties score exactly the same.

Lennon has or had a better ‘win ratio’ than Rodgers but how about trophy winning, surely the important measure?

We know Rodgers has a 100% record.

In his first term Lennon had an appalling 2 out of 7 ‘win ratio’, when he first faced a dying and then lower league Huns. And that’s not even looking at the ‘quality’ of some of those losses, which were grotesque but don’t factor in the stats.

This time, the Scottish Cup was won due to the individual brilliance of Eddy, League Cup due to Forster and unbelievable luck, Scottish Cup going well (stats wise only looking at games already played) and League Cup lost.

Mm, I know which ‘win ratio’ is important to me and its not the one that has him up or even above Stein!

Steve M

As I have said before – it is not a question of lacking talented footballers. The squad is absolutely chock full of talent. Some are brilliant, some are very good, some are competent. None are bad. The trick is to get this diverse group of extremely well paid talented young men to perform as a (winning) team – that is for the manager and his coaching staff to do. In this they have completely failed and they have to be gone – and gone right away. Just getting rid of them will bring a bounce to the team – a bounce that will last until the new manager and coach are embedded.

As for blaming yobs etc for aggressive behaviour yesterday you have to ask what did the team and board expect? A shower of kisses? The fans are frustrated and angry – they are entitled to vent their frustration.

Agree and it’s a similar position to the end of the Deila debacle when fans wanted most of the team gone.

A change of management and by and large the self-same players were on fire.

We obviously don’t have a pre-season to get it right but do you really want Lennon, Lawwell etc to be making judgement calls on players?

It’s their judgement that has led to the shit we’re in.

Oh, and if Brown is finished, lets not just bump him up to a coaching role, as that’s repeating the same old mistakes, Lennon, Kennedy, Strachan, O’Dea, McManus etc and it’s got to stop if we’ve any chance of progressing.

Lawwell went from a million quid a year salary in 2018, got a 2 million quid accumulated bonus for fvck knows what, and now his salary is the same amount as his previous salary PLUS THE BONUS!

3 million quid a year that cvnt’s taking out our club, the highest paid CEO In British football.

Add to this that he’s pissed another 250 million up the wall in the past three years alone just to run the club, then all his fannying about with ‘prospects’ or players like Turnbull, Soro, O’Connor, etc etc, none of whom can even get a game, and you realise that we are in the shit and it’s Lawwell that’s taking it all over us.

These men are fvckin vultures who have treated Celtic fans & players alike since the beginning.

Tierney left through lack of protection, Frimpong and the rest must be thinking the same, after that brutal tackle from Motherwell we’re lucky that boy can still walk.

Where was the board’s ‘outrage’ at the truly shameful scenes of our own players, THEIR OWN EMPLOYEES, being kicked off the park every week with the bent Hun refs watching on grinning to themselves while condoning it all?

Nowhere to be seen.

Wheres their outrage at the truly shameful scenes of the 5WA, the revival of the Hun corpse, the constant attacks by govt & media, the Huns having parties with no sanctions, the Masonic practices of the SFA & their refs?

Nowhere.

In fact, the only time this board is proactive and speak out on anything is either when they’re calling Celtic fans ‘racist’ or grassing them up to the coppers.

That’s who our board is:

Hun loving shitebags who have no time for Celtic fans, players nor Celtic Football Club.

All they want is our money.

Of course the defence are pash but the out ball to Broonie has become a liability and he’s being bypassed. Come January cash in the chips for a direct replacement.

Does Neil Lennon have ‘free reign’ with the squad ?
This is something i have always doubted .

Putting myself in his shoes (shoes NONE of us could ever fill , but that’s another story) then my next move , after trying every play in the managerial handbook to deal with under performing players , would be team meeting where you ask if you don’t want to play for history let me know and you leave the first team squad.
Secondly if i Know for a fact a player is ‘at it’ i confront him in front of the squad , i let him know he has 1 game left ,then its reserve football until he moves on.
Assuming none of the above has already taken place.

I see Laxalt running up and down his line from his own back line to our opponents with no help whatsoever, on the opposite side El-Hammed has Christie. Christie it seems to me plays for Christie, his shooting is pathetic and he cannot take a corner, it never passes the first man. Brown is supposed to be a defensive midfielder and yet he is always playing up front. Ajer cannot jump, despite his size he is continually out jumped, his tackles are usually last gasp. The only one that can take a corner is Griffiths (if he’s there). Even our throw-ins usually go to the opposition. The players have no shape, they are all over the place out of position. What irritates me the most is watching the ball leave the opponent’s box only for it to go back to ours, because Forrest is not there we have no-one to open up our opponent’s, to take a man-on. But the worst part is the ball going slowly from side to side in the middle of the park, giving our opponents time to regroup. Our goalkeeper, has nobody to quickly pass the ball out-to, we are far too slow getting the ball out-to. Our play is far too slow giving our opponents time to re-set. Our defence is shambolic and no-one knows how it should work, with our defenders caught up field far too often, playing into our opponents hands. Its basic stuff that no-one can sort out.

Sacking Lennon might not solve the problem as he didn’t appoint the coaches. Usually when a manager is sacked his coaches go too. But JK and GS are not Lenny’s coaches, they’re Lawell’s. Given that fact can you see him sacking them? If not, would a new manager come in without his own choice of coaches? JK is assistant manager so it seems he’s not the defensive coach, who is? Does any of us know who does what on a day to day basis? Should we be told? Shouldn’t a club which is a commercial venture make it clear to the consumers where their money goes? At the moment it is easy to point the finger but it only gets you so far as we’re all half blind in terms of access to information and we come up with some crazy suggestions about a number of players we’re now missing but when we had them we didn’t think they were contributing enough e.g. Gordon, Jozo, Hayes, I could go on. Ignorance is making us clutch at straws. We need to be told who is doing what. It’s amazing that we’re blaming JL first and foremost then JK and GS yet we don’t actually know who does what. If the players feel the coaching is not good then Lenny’s motivational talks won’t do much good. I think this strategy of keeping us ignorant and failing to address things is resulting in supporters getting increasingly frustrated and some (a small minority) are going to go beyond what is morally and socially acceptable. It can’t be condoned, it can’t be excused but it can be understood.

One point you forgot, 11 the Celtic boardroom is inhabited by complete idiots. This is going to get ugly. Get you superiority complex to f*%k Desmond, your wealth may ensure you do not suffer, but blind loyalty to a doughnut such as Lawwell will cost the club even more 10’s of millions! HH!

Well hail hail Neil Lennon I suppose, if he turns this around, with the help of the players. Then I’ll be a happy camper. We got to get behind him get him out of his depression. He doesn’t hide it well. If nothing else he’s an open book not like shifty Rodgers

We must return to a 4231 against all formations except the 541 where we must go 4213. We need a balance of a byline wide attacker and a cutting in forward with all formats. Broony is spent he should be used as an experienced “space investigator” wide right when there is a byline winger on the left or sit in the hole as part of the 3 or as the single attacking midfielder. Ayer should be moved into a defensive midfield partnership with CalMac.
