Celtic Diary Saturday October 24: The Blueprint For Success

Neil Lennon has had a moan in the media regarding the amount of stick his charges have been getting over their recent piss poor performances.

“We are making too much of one result and one performance,”

We will come back stronger than ever. We are looking forward to the challenges which lie ahead, we are not panicking, we are staying calm, and we have great belief in the players.

“I’m passed ( sic )the stage in my career where criticising players publicly works, I don’t think you get the right response, and I don’t think they deserve it. I think they’ll come again and be stronger than ever.”

“I think what we are going through is not normal, it’s not a normal season,”

“Not only do they have the football challenges and the challenge of that, they’ve got other challenges that every club is going through, some benefit better than others, but we are adapting as we go along.

“There’s a long, long way to go in the season, a lot to look forward to and we‘ve just had a bit of a downturn in performances but I understand why.”

However, if he can’t, or won’t , see that there is a problem, then we’re not going to solve it any time soon.

It’s easy to criticise, and we’ve all been doing it this week, and probably in the weeks running up to the last two games, which have seen unacceptable performances and results.

So, to help turn things around, I’m going to offer my own blueprint for success, a visionary document outlining how we can turn this season around in such a way that we’ll all be laughing about it in years to come.

A blueprint for success.

Actually, in keeping with the first point, it’s more a greenprint for success.

And that first point ?

Celtic should wear the green shirt, the one with white horizontal stripes -hoops- in every game this season. Should a change be required we can use the white shirt with green hoops.

That will remind the players just who and what they are playing for.

They are playing for a football club, a constant in all our lives , and , indeed for some of us, a way of life itself.

A lifelong emotional and financial investment, a commitment that can be said , on occasion, that is not matched by those who represent us on and off the field.

Celtic are known throughout the world for the iconic strip, and it should be worn at all times.

Let others know who we are, but more importantly, remind ourselves of who we are and where we came from.

Now, about those who wear that strip…

There has been talk of players who wish to leave, and without naming names that is certainly a point to consider, but as this season stumbes along to an almost certain early close, there is no room for baggage, no space for hangers on with their own interests on their minds.

We need full focus, a level of desire and concentration not seen for many a year.

So, we need to establish who actually wants to play for the club for the right reasons, and to do that we must conduct a simple test.

After a light training session this morning, the manager should call the players together and tell them that the team for the next game will be picked purely on the basis of who wants to play, and when everyone puts their hands up, he mut then outline what they have to do to show their desire is genuine.

The players will then be divided into four groups.

Goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and forwards. Wingers can elect to join their group of choice.

Depending on the system chosen, the shirts will then be laid out in the dressing room and the players can simply go and get the one they want before anyone else picks it up.

Except, they must first jog to Gourock Pier, jump into the clyde and swim to dunoon Pier, hire a bicycle and cycle over the Rest and Be Thankful back to Glasgow to pick up their shirt.

First goalie back gets the shirt, first defenders back get the shirts, and so on.

Thats your first eleven for the rest of the season, and they work on their strengths and anyone else has to wait until they are injured or not playing the way the manager wants them to.

Their position goes to the first runner up in the race, and so on down the line.

Some of you may have noticed that this sort of exertion may leave the players a little stiff for tomorrows game at Aberdeen, but we could do with that being called off to allow the new look Celts to get used to playing together, as lets face it, one or two of our current first team will still be trying to get back to the ground tomorrow afternoon, and so there will be changes next time out.

This is where Gaving Strachan comes in, as let’s face it, he;s doing fuck all else.

His job today is to gather all the phone numbers of all the Aberdeen players, coaches and staff. When he has done that, he then pops over to the Forge shopping centre and buys what drug dealers call a burner phone, one that is untraceable and can be destroyed after use.

They’re about twenty quid, and he’ll need probably the same amount of credit to perform his next task.

Which is to send them this…late tonight…

Coronavirus (COVID-19): StopCOVID NI Proximity App | nidirect

Followed by this…

NHS to send 'check-in text' to those with suspected Covid-19 | ITV News

Then chuck the phone away.

The dons will have no choice but to call the game off and that gives us time to work on shape, formation, tactics and most importantly, passion.

And Gavin Strachan will have done something useful.

We have yet to beat a team of any decent standard this season.
Champions league failure against the hungarian champions, Sevco, and AC Milan.
Sevco have a real desire to stop 10 we seem not to have the same to win 10.
Their performances in Europe show how far they have come.
They have out played us the last 3 games and deserved winners.
Can’t all be Gavin Strachans fault.
Forster saved us big time in the cup final and against Lazio, also crucial saves in games we could easily have dropped points in.
The writing has been othe wall since the friendlies in France.
We were piss poor against St Mirren Dundee Utd Kilmarnock St Johnstone etc our team is going downhill fast.
If Aberdeen beat us tomorrow they are level on points with us.
Its a must win game. Which requires a real change in dynamics of our starting 11.
Lennon said he won’t throw players under a bus he already did. Go read his report after the hungarian champions beat us.
He just didn’t throw them under the bus he drove over the top of them.
There are no fans in the stadium coaching should be easy. They should be heard.
Where was kennedy telling young Welsh to drop back a little before Ac Milan broke. Where was the shout to tell frimpong when he broke into the box he had time .
They are all sitting on their arse.
Is that an example to show leadership.
The buck stops with lennon.
He has to go and take the rest with him. We are quickly becoming Hibs go ask them what they think of him.

Duncan interestingly enough and you being a stats believer and all. Ntcham overall input was about 30 per cent of what it was against ‘Rangers’ than when he played in that game where he scored the only goal and winner against them a while back. You know when our best midfielder rogic set up the goal. Hi think Lennon has lost the dressing room as loveable and forceful a guy he is. My take on it is Brown is treating the man with contempt. The players are seeing this and not putting in enough. Or Oliver just wants to get out. I think Ntcham on Saturday ng is a brilliant player by the way. And Forrest not brilliant is talismanic and scores important goals home and abroad. Some players have that effect.

Jimmy that’s an insult to Hibs who to a man play for their shirt. They all try like fuck. I’d take their manager anyway. Young intelligent ambitious and may I say rather handsome. He has Celtic manager written all over him and he is Scottish. Who was the last Scot to manage? If nothing else we are up there with the best managers in the world and a Scot should be put in charge. So you have given up Ralph, succinct analysis gone out the window in favour of tongue in cheek, OK I get that, we are all rightly angry with the players and the manager. So are there any positives out there? Well Christie being back, Ntcham being played in a more appropriate role and the change in system second half give grounds for optimism for tomorrow. I have always thought “ doesn’t try a leg,” one of the daftest statements around, a kiss of death for a player’s career, who would want that kind of player. Lennon has had two good runs as manager and I have yet to see the name of an available replacement. Ten in a Row is a once in a life time challenge, Board backed him big time, deliver Lenny, deliver.

Lennon should put the hoops shirt on and remind himself what it means tae be the Celtic manager, bottom line is the manager and his backroom staff, with an exception tae Stevie Woods, are piss poor, now do we replace them while we’re 4 points behind the Govan tramps, or do we wait until the NY when we’re 12 points behind the orcs and the 10 is dead, lennon has proved on numerous occasions he’s naw the man, cant motivate players, cant develop and improve players, terrible tactically both leading up tae a game and during a game…So ask yourself this, would you rather make the change of manager now while we’re still in the fight and plenty of season left, or we can wait until next May, the 10 is dead, and we have tae live with the hun bile for a generation….KTF

How fickle we are. Hero last year and calls for the sack this year. We have been winning multiple trophies for 10 years. All of them for the last three years. We nearly always pull away in the second half of the season and complain about a relatively small set of results early in the season which sows doubt. At some time we will lose a trophy in Scotland and we will lose a few games in Scotland and Europe. Again I think we have the best squad in Scotland by far and our manager while less than Juergen Klopp is solid and a Celtic man to the core. He deserves a chance to sort out the current issues.

Broxi , Neil Lennon has just done fine. Cost the club possibly 60 million pounds by missing out in the champions league x 2. Make no mistake they were abject failures against cluj and Ferencvaros I’d say if he got the team in on one of those years it would be deemed as successful. He is lucky the fans are obsessed with 10 in a row otherwise he’s no better than Ronny Delia re achievements. Ronny inherited a much weaker squad and didn’t have the luxury of obtaining Rodgers squad.

Lennon must be given plaudits for taking over when Rodgers left. He was the man to salvage. But he’s not the man to progress the club as we are now witnessing.

I agree the games against Cluj and Ferencvaros should have been won. They weren’t. Since we never had the money we can’t say that Lennon cost us 60m. We can blame a lot more people at Celtic including Lawell and the players. That said any manager who failed to qualify for the Champions league can equally be said to have cost us XX millions? If he’s not the man to progress the club thenwho is and how much would that progress cost? I assume we’d go on a buying spree to progress the club?

We all know Celtic’s journey to Lisbon in season 1966-67. When we were on the one road, sharing the one load, going to God knows where. But how did Inter Milan reach Lisbon?
They beat Torpedo Moscow: 1-0 (H). and 0-0 (A).
Then in the next round: Vasas SC. 2-1 )H) and won 0-2 (A).
The Quarter Finals: They beat the 6 time winners Real Madrid 1-0 (H). and won 0-2 (A).
The Semi Finals: They beat CSKA Red Flag 1-1 (A) and 1-1 (H). The play off tie was supposed to be at a neutral venue, but CSKA. decided to play in Bologna, Italy for a bigger payoff, Inter won 1-0.
Lisbon beckoned and we all knew how that ended.
When Celtic played Nantes in the first round, winning 1-3 (A) and 3-1 (H). Big Jock said this….
‘Celtic FC. have been quite in demand these days, Moscow has been on the phone asking if there was a possibility of arranging a match between ourselves and Dinamo Kiev, who we beat in last years European Cup Winners Cup. Also other friends from the past want to play us are Slovan Bratislava of Czechoslovakia (hic) again, regretably we had to decline their offer.’
You don’t need to know why Celtic was in such demand because we all know the answer and that is that Celtic were being noticed as a force to be reckoned with all over Europe. # Lisbon Lions.

No need to rabbit on about how crucially important today’s result and performance will be for us. Aberdeen have been competing well so far but have weaknesses in their defence. Morning Yoker, was thinking about you last week, hoping that you were not too badly affected by this second Covid wave, the news from Spain is not encouraging, here we too seem to be bunkering down as our second wave is waving Hola instead of cheerio. But there is encouraging news regarding a vaccine, which might be offered to our NHS in a few weeks, fingers x. Busy later Yoker so will not be around till much later this evening. Yes, you are correct in that today’s game is crucial. As you know I believe that Ntcham is a luxury that Celtic cannot afford, a passenger in most games, so for me he can/ should be left out, so, a back four including Duffy who IMO this game is made for and include Broony for Ntcham, it is also possible that Odsonne might feature, we live in hope.

Morning Mike, hope you’re keeping well and that we finally do get good news re the vaccine. The second wave of the pandemic has been very hard to control so far with Spain being one of the worst affected countries. A midnight curfew (00:00 to 06:00) has only just come into force here in Valencia with something similar happening in most other regions of the country as a great part of the rapid spread of covid in recent weeks has been put down to student parties, mass outdoor drinking sessions and illegal raves as well as family get-togethers and too much indoor pub/club activity. Alcohol consumption is obviously a wonderful catalyst for infection when people (mostly the younger ones) lose a bit of control. My wildman partying days are mostly behind me now so I’ve managed to stay safe and welcome the new measures which will hopefully curb the upward curve.
To be honest I was in two minds about whether to include Oli Ntcham in my starting line-up as I tend to agree with you that all too often he brings little to the side and fades badly in games where he is given little space to operate. He was completely nullified by the huns but looked much more effective (at least in spells) against AC Milan. I just feel Broony is struggling for pace and has been a lot less effective lately. His influence (both on and off the field) is still hugely important but I reckon he should be used a lot more sparingly in order to get the best out of him. That said, I’m sure Lenny will pick him to start anyway. Overall, I definitely want to see some changes in many senses, particularly in the attitude of our players. Today’s game needs fast flowing moves, precision passing and plenty of dig. Our players have to show what’s at stake and fight for every ball. Difficult to predict how this one will turn out but I have faith that we will see, at the very least, an improvement in attitude and effort. Take care Mikey and don’t work too hard. Enjoy the game mate. KTF HH

Yoker, it was very similar here, students going out and enjoying themselves, who can really blame them, though it was a selfish thing to do. The Vaccine: like most folks I keep my eyes peeled for any information and recently the Oxford Vaccine has made much progress, it had two set backs and its progress stopped for just two days each time but both setbacks were ruled out as something else and its progress resumed. I heard in the papers that the deputy chief medical officer had instructed all NHS. staff to get ready for to be vaccinated in the next couple of weeks. They have suggested then that they will begin to roll it out perhaps before the end of this year, it looks promising, very promising. 66 million doses for the UK. and 66 Billion in total world wide. My advice to you and yours would be to come back after its roll out and get Vaccinated ASAP. I -rightly or wrongly am very encouraged by its progress. So take care mate, keep your head down and I will keep you updated. KTF.

Absolutely nothing, this team is all over the place, they make the sheepies look good.
The next forty five is Lennon future, pity there is no Stokes

It is now embarrassing eleven games of dross, but people still prattle on about it coming good.

Celtic have no divine right to win every game.

I would drop duffy.
Big wages , bigger than maybe any other player at Celtic.
Think that has put some noses out of joint .Especially as he has been terrible.
You constantly call for Lennon to go , so again who do you bring in ?
Anybody wanting to sack a manager after 1 domestic defeat is on the deludamol .
The only crisis is in the minds of you pantie wetters.

I am thankful we are playing with no fans.
Playing in front of guys like you , wanting managers sacked , captains dropped , More subs used , less subs used.
Reactionary pish .
