Celtic Diary Monday February 3: Seven Up

Celtic moved seven points clear of “rangers ” at the top of the league, and although it certainly means there is a little bit of a cushion there now most of us will feel better when the difference in points is more than the fingers their support have on one hand.

It took until the 78th minute of the game against Hamilton for the hoops to confirm the points, with the home side doggedly holding on to a point despite being down to ten men, but I don;t suppose it matters when the goals come, as long as they do.

Hamilton had opened the scoring from a first half corner while the latest defensive line up were still introducing themselves to each other. Debutant Stephen Welsh, the Coatbridge lad recalled from loan at Greenock Morton , can;t be blamed for the goal, or indeed anything else he did during the game, but you’d have thought one of the more experienced lads would have picked up the Hamilton forward.

Leigh Griffiths won a free kick a few minutes later, and Oddsone Edoaurd wisely hit it home before the Scottish forward had time to demand he took it.

Then it was all a bit turgid, and there was doubt amongst the support that Celtic could actually find their way through to the points. With “rangers ” dropping points at home to aberdeen , it began to look like Celtic were content to continue making a title race out of the season, but Chris Julien swiped a cross into the net, and after that Hamilton gave up, allowing Celtic to improve their goal difference by another two.

Overall, it wasn’t the best performance, and maybe there is an argument that suggests the scoreline flattered Celtic, but then again, in two previous meetings between the clubs this season, Celts had won only by a single goal, so in one sense it was an improvement, and at least we won’t have to go there again this season.

Next stop is Fir Park, Motherwell, as Celtic continue their Winter Tour around Scotland, with a disproportionate amount of away games, that interestingly enough, should mean that there will be a bit of an imbalance come the time of the league split, not by design, but by accident,as the way the teams sit right now, Celtic will end up playing most of the top sides 3 times away, and once at home… and guess who will end up with the reverse statistic…

But we’ll worry about that if the league hasn’t been secured by then.

Thats because I’ve a feeling it will be.

Allow me , if you will, to explain.

First of all, although an App that tells me when Celtic are going to pay well and score would be handy, so that I can either stay in the pub a wee bit longer when I’m up there, or get a few jobs done around the house while I’m down here.

For example, against St Johnstone, all we had to watch was the first half, as nothing else happened after that.

Yesterday, ten minutes in the first and then I could have went away and done the ironing until it was time to catch the last three goals.

If the players are only going to turn up when they feel like it, isn’t it only fair the support should be allowed the same privilige ?

Just a thought…

Meanwhile, well done to Stephen Welsh, who did what he was asked to do when he needed to do it, and although I’d rather not see a lad recalled from loan to fill in for a lacklustre transfer window, it’s his chance to secure a first team place, and he looks like he could just do it.

Speaking of which, here’s our squad when fully fit… put together by the 90 minute cynic on Twitter..

Image

The problem at centre back is there for all to see, and it’s surprising that no one has seen it.

This may become more apparent as the next few weeks unfold, with two games a week being the norm to make up for the winter break and the possibility of postponed matches to help Scotland finally reach a major tournament.

Injuries will pile up, though as yesterday showed, Celtic can handle that middle to front as Lennon is spoilt for choice middle to front, the changes there yesterday opened up the opponents, but at the back, it’s a different story.

However, no one will moan until it begins to affect Steven Gerrard’s title hopes, so expect it after Wednesday’s round of matches…

During the game, Leigh Griffiths got into a tangle with a Hamilton player and , according to some, stamped on the player. Watching the video, it’s clear Griffiths did everything he could to avoid stamping on the player, but oddly enough, the manager felt the need to comment… according to the headline in the Express, that is..

Celtic boss Neil Lennon warns Leigh Griffiths over behaviour after stamp flashpoint

Celtic boss Neil Lennon has issued a stern warning to Leigh Griffiths about his behaviour after a ‘stamp’ incident overshadowed their win over Hamilton.

In the report, the first words from Lennon are…

“I didn’t think Leigh stamped on him,”

Then the manager commented on something else entirely, something which was worth the yellow card, but note how the media are ignoring that and making it about the “stamp “

“He pushed the guy in the chest and that’s not what I want.

“That’s not a red-card offence but he shouldn’t have done it. We’re big on discipline and I don’t like to see things like that.

“He lost his temper but we need discipline. We can’t be doing with losing men on the pitch.

Thats a fair point, but the narrative remains with the stamp, which didn’t happen and wasn’t the reason for the yellow card..

Ally McCoist, speaking on wodescreen BT sport said that if Morelos had done that, he’d have been sent off.

Quite rightly, I suppose, as Morelos shouldn’t be on the pitch during a Hamilton v Celtic game.

Of course, what he really meant was that had Morelos stamped on someone he’d have been sent off.

Image

Actually, Morelos is possibly the only person who has stamped on someone that hasn’t been sent off, so perhaps the flabby funster is getting all mixed up again, and it’s only fair not to criticise a man who spent a considerable amount of time heading a football during his career.

As for Morelos, things aren;t going his way, his wife has now denied she put a private investigator on his tail, which means that those long winter nights at home must just be flying past for the little Colombian.

I’m curious though, as one or two things about this whole story don’t make sense.

First, there’s the bit where his car was tampered with…it doesn’t look like the sort of place a millionaire footballer would live, far less park his expensive motor…

Image shows the footie star's car being removed

I’m basing that on the other cars not being expensive and the presence of a staircase down to where they are parked…

Of course, the image and reputation of the forward has been shattered, and despite the denial from his wife that she has placed a private investigator onto him to see what he is up to, there is little evidence that he’s been at it.

Apart from the occasional picture, such as this one.

Image

Later today, on Sky sports, you’ll see an interview with the man as the Fat controller tries desperately to paint him as the victim, but one fears the psychological damage to him has already been done.

In the interview, where he has clearly had help with the words,Morelos comes acoross as a little boy lost, which is designed to elicit sympathy, but it may be too late…

Image

Image

As a player, I guess he’s finished, and that means their title challenge is as well.

There were no bids, and no rumours of bids for him in January, which tells me that he is not worth the risk for anyone else to take on, and maybe we are now seeing that.

One thing of note, Celtic are ignoring the claims that the support is racist,or contains a racist element, but thats not entirely surprising ,as its not so long ago our own board accused us of the very same thing…

(Planet Radio, November 2015…)

Celtic chairman Ian Bankier has described some fans’ online treatment of a fellow director as ”criminally racist” at the club’s annual general meeting.

Lord Livingston, a Conservative peer and former minister for trade and investment, recently voted in favour of the UK Government’s tax credit cuts policy in the House of Lords, which prompted a section of the Celtic support to start an online petition calling for his removal.

Almost 10,000 have signed it but the proposal to re-elect him is likely to be carried when the votes are counted.

One shareholder was given a rousing round of applause when he claimed Lord Livingston’s ”role in society is contrary to the ethos of the club”.

Mr Bankier rounded on some of the Glasgow-born peer’s critics but his speech was met with calls of ”shame” from some in the hall at Celtic Park.

Mr Bankier claimed the former BT Group chief executive – whose full title is Lord Livingston of Parkhead – had been ”subject to a torrent of utterly base personal abuse conducted over social media over recent weeks”.

”The messages posted in quite a few cases are criminally racist and in all cases the vocabulary chosen is base and highly abusive,” the Celtic chairman added.

”What sickens me to the core is that the campaign is conducted in the name of (Celtic founder) Brother Walfrid.

”Ian Livingston is a consummately able business executive. We are grateful that he is prepared to devote his time and considerable talents to the affairs of this club.

”The fact that he also happens to be a member of the House of Lords creates no conflict of interest with the business of Celtic.

”We are a football club. We play football – and we are good at it.

”Our fans come from every quarter of society and share the common bond of supporting the team.

”We are not a conduit for political statements and campaigns. No fan or section of fans has the right to set up a stall that proclaims political intolerance in the name of what they invariably cite as their club.

”Our club is not available to anyone for that purpose.

”I condemn this activity and appeal to you to see it for what it is because intolerance soon leads to hatred and hatred leads to a lot worse, as we well know.”

Perhaps we are on the point of spotting why the club won;t defend the support against these accusations…perhaps they think there’s something in them…

Good morning all. Some thoughts: Taylor is a traditional left back but not a wingback. Hayes is a wingback, Frimpong is a wingback. Lining up 3-5-2:
Forster
Elhamed/Ajer/Jullien
Forrest/Brown/Christie/McGregor/Hayes
Edouard/Rogic
4-4-2
Forster
Elhamed/Ajer/Jullien/Taylor
Forrest/Brown/Christie/McGregor

Forster
Elhamed/Ajer/Jullien/Taylor
Brown/McGregor
Forrest/Rogic/Christie
Edouard
4-3-3
Forster
Elhamed/Ajer/Jullien/Taylor
Brown/Ntcham/McGregor
Forrest/Edouard/Christie
Griffiths/Klimala/Bayo/Soro/Elyounassi to figure as needed. Ralph, don’t understand your idea about how teams will square off post split. If the current top six remain the same, we are due to play all % of them at home and Sevco due to play all 5 of them away!! That won’t happen but surely, we will play 3 of 5 at home and Sevco 3 of 5 away? We of course will be at home to the final Sevco match and 2 of 4 at home to: Aberdeen/Motherwell/Hibs/Livvie, all tough away matches. Like you, I think we should try clinch the title before the split.

Reply to  Devoy45

Livi have a healthy lead but if they nosedive like last year then maybe Killie can overtake them and would give us 1 away game.

We’d still need to switch 1 or 2 of the others to away but that would depend on the balance of games for the others.

In the past some teams (us?) have played 20 home and only 18 away but I’m not sure the Hun permarage would cope with that.

Can’t see us winning the league before the split, as that would require being 16 points ahead but if we can stretch our lead before the split then that should be enough.

Fantastic article, mate. Just so much happening oop north, what with the wheels coming off a title challenge,a motor being “tampered with” and the manager throwing players under a bus. To continue the metaphor,it’s like watching a car crash.

And I couldn’t think of better people to be in it.

I have to admit that I always enjoy Griff’s edge. Broony has to be careful but he makes certain that if you mess with him expect it back. Griff’s “edge” sticking up for himself and giving it back, was always a part of football, take it out of the game and it diminishes the game. I thought that Walsh the referee the big decisions correct and once again fair doo’s to the new fairer (sometimes) treatment of the Celtic players by the Ex John Fleming refereeing fraternity. Also, I echo your sentiments about young Stephen Welsh, its always a pleasure to witness a young player making such a fine debut. Jihadi Jabba, the fat-fat-fat controller.

Agree with you Charlie about the mainstream media….but yesterday there was a noticeable wandering off the Level 5 line. For several days they reported with barely hidden glee that possibly some other club’s fans (ours obviously) had attempted to tamper with the car’s brakes, and they beefed up the details as much as possible. Then it turns out his wife was having him watched by a private investigator so cue the change in tone in the Daily Ranker yesterday:-
1)they referred to him making a “cut throat gesture” to the fans, where previously they backed his lie.
2) they showed a photo of him with the caption “mouthing off at the referee”.
It would appear they’re a bit red faced at revealing their initial amatuerish reporting of the incident.
No doubt Traynor will have them back in line, but maybe he’s losing his touch.

Celtic’s “silent voices”.

Could it be the Bigot Buck? is the reason for the silence? When you think of those who makes money out of bigotry. Like- The Main Stream Press, it can range from big corporations and their Daily Papers, to the more localised press, all eager to find out some tit-bits to write about, all of that happening as the fat controller pulls their strings, they are never silent but quick to judge.
Sky- B.T.- BBC.- STV. all of them milking Scottish football for all it is worth, remove the Huns and what is left? but a daily diatribe of Celtic mostly winning, winning, winning.
The Celtic board and similarly the Sevco board make money ours being silent, there’s crowing their weekly statements of manufactured grievances.
The SFA. with its rules doctored by the 5 Way, manufactured and distorted to suit the club from Govan.
The SPFL. with its continuation and “going for 55” myth.
“Don’t Rock The boat” keep quiet and maybe it will all go away. But it refuses to go away. Res.12.

The only manager that appears to fear them is Lenny, but again he should have started with Rogic and Hayes, I thought we were about to see a Spaghetti Stadium event yesterday.
The players get stick, Lenny picks the team and against bruisers he don’t get it.

Seriously C Z, it’s a bit like the Rankers praising Stevie G. Lenny is a good manager but when he comes to playing certain teams on plastic pitches, he don’t get it. He also has his favourites, he should use the squad as, required, The team he sent out against the Rankers was wrong, he should have clocked after the final, the team he sent out against Hamilton was wrong, substitutions proved it.
He accepts the crumbs the board fling onto his table, as proven by the latest signings.

Mike maybe suns it up. Had 3 looks at Griffiths “ stamp” first one maybe left tangled up, could have chosen to put it elsewhere,, second one definite stamp, off, third time studs on chest but no force, yellow. If it had been Morellos on Christie what would we have said? Lenny getting a hard time for a brilliant first half against St J and a brilliant fight back against Hamilton on their “ash” pitch, dear me. I thought since Lazio there was something gwrong but we have played through that and Elyounessi, Frimpong, El Hamed, and Jozo to come, Christie back and Rogic having his best contribution in a while, should be strong enough. Julien class finish, Jozo is the guy for Dykes, Hamilton and Ross County’s hammer throwers.

BJF if it was Morelos then there wouldn’t have been any colour of card, because he has stamped on many different players, including Christie and Ralston in the past with no punishment. If any of our players commit any questionable foul then the outcry is huge. From many ex player pundits whose couldn’t lace Griffs. boots, their knowledge of the football rules is minimal. So we question mark? might have got away with one, while players of every club get away with murder on the pitch.

Four great goals yesterday, with some marvellous inter-play between the players, dummy’s and feints, but it would be good to see variations at corner kicks.
Good also to read that the club will hopefully be purchasing some extra ground to help our disabled supporters get easier access into Celtic park.
The original first “Paradise” opened on the 8th. May 1888 ground and pavilion over 20 acres and was situated slightly North East of the current Celtic park Dalmarnock street Parkhead.
The original Celtic strip was a white top with a big circular red dot and an emerald green Celtic cross on the right hand side of the jersey. We only started wearing those famous hoops in 1903 after wearing green and white vertical stripes before them. In 1938 we started wearing a four leaf clover prior to that it was a three leaf shamrock.
Footnote: The most popular away strip ever, was white with green sleeves and green shorts, a gift from Belfast Celtic. Remember Glasgow Celtic donated £400.00 to the new Belfast Celtic when they emulated our start. My favourite school strip was all white with green cuffs.

Stuff. Brother Tims,Comrades, Fenian Friends I havenae met ….yet. I am not up to date and don’t read papers or online enough about the current state of Celtic. I need some answers.
What’s the state of play with fullbacks Perez and Gutman in the USA?
When is Elyounassi expected to return?
When will Elhamed return?
When will Frimpong return?
How goes it with Arzani?
How goes it with Shved?
When does Bitton return?
I think Bolingoli can still be used when a wingback is required?
We ever gonna see Soro in action?
Why not start Klimala up front with Edouard, soon?
If Bayo is fit, we finally need to see what he can do. I don’t think we are updated by the club very well.
Motherwell on Wednesday. It’s possible the Hibees can take some points at the Orcdome, although the MIB will have been given their instructions. Anyway. at Motherwell

Forrest/Brown/Christie/McGregor/Hayes

Talking of Squirrels , what about this ‘terror attack’ in London.
The suspect was placed on 24 hr surveillance as soon as he was released from prison by counter terrorism officials.
It is understood that he was freed from jail without any assessment by prison authorities of the danger he posed and was supposed to be wearing an electronic tag and be under curfew.
So no parole hearing? no meeting of officials. They knew he was being released. No way to influence the prison authorities that this guy is such a danger that if you release him we will be putting him under 24hr watch ??
”The Streatham attacker was placed under full surveillance on the day of his release from jail and within days prompted such concern from counter-terrorism officials that those tailing him were ordered to be armed, the Guardian has learned.
Such concern ??
They also say they ‘know he left his hostel without any knife ? and that while they were following him he stole a knife and then stabbed 2 people before being shot.
This is the Boris government at work here.

Yes you are correct about Michael Stewart and his calling out of the fat Jihadi Jabba. But where is the Celtic voices, that should be at the forefront in calling out the liars and cheats? Accusations of car tampering, accusing the Celtic support of being racist? the Celtic chairman Bankier also called some sections of our own support as being racist. We have raised this issue many, many times in the past, but still nothing is said in our clubs defence. Traynor is aiding sectarianism in Scotland, promoting division. But he is allowed always to do so without opposition. I posted yesterday about this, but it has been moderated. He should be called out for what he says, but it sells, sh!tey papers and makes Morelos the victim on national t.v. its pathetic.

I’m not sure that Naka ever spoke any/much English and plenty other excellent players similarly “failed to grasp English” but this had no effect on their football ability.

Isn’t it great that we have a world wide fan base with supporters from all walks of life. Who can even in Spain see what the media here in fair caledonia is all about. HH to our supporters the world over who protect and support our club so much more than our custodians could ever do.
I blame the schools for those pesky Spanish lessons. TAL

He cannot speak English but he knows when he is being racially abused. Sky’s Craig Slater (interviewer) Ex. Killie player, cannot speak Spanish, so how did they converse? Oh, it must have been through the fat controller.
At long last a Celtic voice, it speaketh and a panic attack occurs in the media. Michael Stewart speaks and BBC. Scotland gets down on its knees to apologise, again. What fun, fun at the Hun, on the run.

Mike, you’ve done Michael Stewart NO FAVOURS by this silly remark; he’s not speaking FOR Celtic, just highlighting the Truth about Jabba. Your silly comment plays into the hands of huns everywhere, including those that visit here. Whilst I’m at it, identifying potential football streams on here lacks ‘savvy’ too. You’ll have handed that arsehole, anti-Celtic-supporter Lawwell a direct attack destination. FFS, I know you’re only a ‘fermer’ but you’re a damn sight better than to comment like that. 🙂

Tictoc Think you’ve read Mike’s bit wrong m8.
Mike is i believe referring to the Celtic statement issued this evening Not Michael Stewart speaking on behalf of Celtic. His Michael Stewart comment is based on the beeb apologising to jabba for Michael’s comments but no apology to Celtic.
Hope that clears it up m8.

Correct jimmybee and thanks for clearing that up, as for football streams, when a mate asks for assistance, I put his request before anything. If you think that Lawwell isn’t aware of every football stream on the internet then once again you are mistaken, why do you think that that stream was curtailed?

Jimmy/Mike, if I’ve got the wrong end of the stick then I apologise, and I agree it’s high time Celtic used its voice. Long may that continue.

I follow Mikey Stewart on Twitter and he is constantly abused on it by Huns, not least because of his pro-indy stance. However, on the ‘brake-tampering’ story it went into overdrive – he was actually being accused of being complicit in attempted murder! Fuck knows what he was supposed to have done but that’s the Hun mind for you. Chances are that his appearances on EBT…sorry BBC Scotland will be drastically reduced from now on (Jim Spence anyone?). He would be a great loss as he’s the one decent pundit they have amongst the usual Sevco bootlickers.
