Celtic Xmas Crackers – 3 Kings

celtic-crackers2-text2

Here is one about a Journey..

3 Kings

The wind continued to bite but still they carried on.

The 3 men hadn’t come this far to give up at the last hurdle.
In truth, they knew they had no choice. They couldn’t give up.
No, In fact that was incorrect,  the men knew by now that they did have a choice, a binary choice:

Succeed or die.

That was the harsh wind of reality than fought them at every step.
The men bowed their heads and moved forward, hiding from the wind, and all thinking “How had it come to this?”
None of them had seen this coming not even a few weeks before the journey began.

For only a little time before this, the 3 had been enjoying a quiet fruitful and fulfilling life.
In different ways, for each lived in a separate world, they were all living lives in relative luxury and near adulation.

Life was good and their people smiled upon them.

Then the smiles were no more.

That was back in a simpler time.  A time when everything seemed fine.
Then everything started to fall, and the men feared losing their hold completely like some long lost Pharaohs of yesteryear.

Still, they didn’t imagine a journey would take them to where they now stood.

History would one day show that no-one did.

Their final destination was not the only surprise.

After all these were 3 men of power and high standing, Lords of all they surveyed.

They were delegators, they gave orders, they orchestrated.

They did not take on adventures into the unknown.

Not until now.
Not until this journey.

This journey that had been long and hard but they know they had to undertake all that was demanded of them. One way of another.

Succeed or die.

They had been cast into a journey of a thousand dark miles, a long gruelling journey, through the cold biting air with failure waiting at every turn.

With every slow step forward against the wind, they each remembered how it had come to this crazy adventure.

The journey had seen the 3 men band together in one common glorious all consuming goal.

A goal demanded by their people.

Their task was a simple task yet also a magnificent task; Magnificent in both name and intention.

Their task was to Find the Messiah!

Their people who were seemingly happy had suddenly changed and now felt a higher yearning. The smiles gave way and cold faces faced the Kings. The people looked to the Kings to  help deliver the Messiah and help them find the blessed truth within the Messiahs message and this would deliver happiness, love and peace to the peoples hearts and minds.

The Kings knew they had no choice.

Succeed or die.

The journey had taken them under the blanket of that cold sky across many lands and encountering many strange peoples; Some positive about their hopes for a brighter future and some decrying their claims as shameful sad fantasy.

The Kings met praise and rejection as the same and carried on in their search.

They sought out the best advice, they listened to everyone: from the people in the fields to the cleverest seers in Ivory towers.

They left no stone unturned from the sea to the mountains and followed every lead from their homesteads to the lands beyond the horizon.

They battled on through every false lead. They were resolute and refused to let any withering whisper of hope dying on the wind dismay them.

The Kings knew they had no choice.

Succeed or die.

They had journeyed on knowing that time was short and they had to complete the journey before that brightest of all the stars would rise clearly into view.

Finally, amazingly, they had now completed their journey. They had arrived at the humble dwelling place of the Messiah

Fortune had smiled upon them as they gathered their treasures and turned to approach their final destination.

They did not speak, there was no need for words between them.
The leader of the 3, the rich King of the largest domain, stepped forward towards the location of the Messiah and led the others on, all leaving the cold dark of night behind as they stepped inside.

The 3 kings gasped in awe as the room was suddenly bathed in light and there before them, truly was the Messiah.

Not only that but the Messiah was smiling before them. Before them and upon them.

Taking a few seconds to catch his breath, the leading King then humbly said

“Brendan, I am Dermot Desmond, this is Peter Lawwell and this is John Park. We have come to ask you to lead Celtic in Paradise. Our People, I mean, YOUR People await you and the Champions League qualifiers aren’t far away. You can have any help you need!”

Brendan Rodgers ushered the men further inside and continued smiling as he closed over the door.  After all it was as if all his Xmases had come at once.

Unfortunately for the other mob, they only have one king and he is glib and shameless.

I thought reading a post on a site with TIMS mentioned I wouldn’t be reading the hated word ” XMAS “. Trying not to moan but I can’t stand that offensive word especially when CHRIST is so easy to spell.
Kind regards

Hendy67 & Paolo,

I understand your feelings as I too prefer and would normally use Christmas just as I use “happy” rather than “merry” – mind you, I am seldom either 🙂

However, X was one of the most potent symbols of Christ among the early Christians, reputed to have been introduced by the emperor Constantine when he used the Chi Ro image on his soldiers’ shields. The Greek X (CH) with the Greek P (R) superimposed became accepted as a symbol of Christ and The Resurrection. There is also a theory the X was used by the early Christians as a means of one being able to recognise another – not unlike the Masonic handshake. The CHI RO was eventually recognised and adopted as a Christian sign especially in the Catholic Church and was used with MAS (MASS) to describe the Mass of Christ or Christmas.

This is a very terse explanation. But, hopefully, it shows that Xmas is not in itself disrespectful or lazy to use it. I do accept that for those that do not understand it’s proper meaning, Xmas may be both the former or the latter. Having said that, how many today recognise what is the real celebration of Christmas? Therefore, should we feel put out over what is simply an expression.

I hope this helps alleviate your qualms.

mike,

Not out of a cracker but simply from one that is cracked. I have to tell you it actually came from the very depths of my memory of long past studies of Christian church history and is thus somewhat suspect. However, it is, I believe, in essence what is claimed to be the tradition though it may have been recalled on my part with some honest mistakes. I was wearing my Specsavers when commenting 🙂

I hope you are well in spite of the Dundee smog!!!

I do love a parable with a twist to it! I was half-expecting the Three King’s to bestow the gifts of roof tiles, mastic, and tarpaulins upon the Messiah, bearing a message from the Lord God to go forth unto Govan and repair the stand roofs – a kind of spin on the story of the 5 loaves and 2 fishes, whereby the masses (is this the correct collective noun to describe them?) are fed bullshit and lies to feed their hunger for self-righteousness!..

Desi,

At first I expected Fergus to be the Messiah. However, I agree that,on the field of play at least, BR has proved to be another one sent from on high in our hour of need. All good reading. I hope you can keep it going till Christmas or Xmas.

Thanks pensioerbhoy for your explanation but I’m more sided to people using it to be lazy and can’t be arsed.
The time of year is Christmas but now we get “happy holidays”
or seasons greetings just so not say Christmas.
Desi-mond,TIMS = CELTIC fans??? Really??
Iam very aware we are a club open to ALL faiths so we should RESPECT all faiths and none!
I wouldn’t be so disrespectful and call any religious event by anything other than it’s name. Just like I took offence like many TIMS when Neil got referred to as Lenny and the gardener was referred to as Ally. Disrespectful?? I would say!

There is no god. Really, there isn’t a god. Doesnay mean we canny be tolerant & respectful towards others regardless of their faith, or people of no faith.
What compassionate’ god’ would allow the atrocities taking place in Aleppo…for example. And even if yi SHOUT doesnay alter the fact there is no god.

Anyhoo Montezuma on a different note…its a bit brisk here is Kirkliston, just checked the BBW world weather site…its 25 degrees and rainy doon there is Sydney.

I am more inclined to think that the creation of all that we currently understand is way beyond human comprehension.
As a species we are so f-kin anal we cannot simply accept it is beyond us.
I mean the big bang theory?
Nothing collided with nothing and from the resulting explosion everything we understand exists is a result of this event?
I am more inclined to believe in an almighty theory than an almighty bang theory.
Perhaps in future science and religion will merge and call it the Almighty Gang Bang Theory?
Science has blown an exorbitant amount of finances and resources exploring Space and researching theories yet on the planet we actually live on 5000 children die through drinking contaminated water EVERY SINGLE DAY.
My theory is we should stop looking up and start looking within.
Maybe the answer to all mankinds woes was there all the time?
The churches are full of hypocrites my da used to say on a Sunday as he watched the locals heading to the chapel 3 doors up.
He was right.
Bastards 6 days of the week and a saint on the 7th when they saunter in and get told..”all is forgiven”.
No God is going too accept that approach I don’t think?
I mean a creator of all this is not going to be hoodwinked that easy surely?
The Holy Books were not written by God after all were they?
No they were written by funny wee men in strange clothes sporting sandals.
The same wee men funnily enough that tell you to reach God YOU MUST come through them.
Aye ok right you are Jim where do I sign?
I believe too find God you have to look deep inside yersel.
Not by routinely heading into big fancy building to listen too a strange wee man in weird clothing talking in riddles.
As for Christmas well it’s a farce.
Jesus was not born in December for starters (Lambs are born in Spring) the only reason we celebrate it on the 25th of December is due to a King merging Christianity with Paganism and the date just so happens too coincide with the Winter Solstice(handy if you wish to unify the entire entire population of your own Kingdom if they are Christian and Pagans).
It is nothing more than an excuse to indulge yourself for most people indulge in the things that the Holy book says you are to resist?
Ironic.
Greed Sloth and Gluttony being the main ones.
This of course can be justified as we are “remembering Jesus birth”.
On the wrong day in the wrong month and by breaking his daddies wishes.
Bravo.
Jebus is that the time?
Theses early morning Airport runs are not conducive to a well thought out post …please excuse my ramblings.

Not one thing has ever come back from the dead. It’s simply not possible. If one believes in an afterlife/angels/ghost/devil/god…then it’s not beyond the possibility that in some solar system there is a planet named Celtic. Now how ridiculous does that sound? Fairy tales are for kids. As they should be. Anyhoo…greetings far a very drookit Kirliston on planet Celtic.

Bondibrian

…actually I’ve hid an epiphany… It’s reasonable to name a planet Celtic, but if one thinks its inhabited by wee Tims…Now that is plain stupid. Ah digress. HAIL HAIL N…..aw that.

Right here’s a challenge: can anyone provide a link, or know of anyone who has come back from the dead? And by dead I mean clinical pronounced dead. Buried for a few days/years/centuries would be an impressive comeback. Just give me proof & one name please. Thanks in advance(aye right) if no proof by hmmmm…. 72hours hence I shall take it no proof exists. If proof came be provided I’ll put a grand into the account charity of yer charity of choice. Deal? Aye/Naw shall suffice.

I know a story of a Young woman who went into hospital to give birth to her first child.
Immediately after the birth which went without incident the surgeon went in to tidy up suturing any tears as he went along.
There was partial bleeding at this point which is quite normal due to the amount of stretching that has to happen to allow a 7 lb baby to exit a vagina.
Any way after the woman was put back on the ward she noticed that she was hemorrhaging quite badly and raised concerns only to be told this was not unusual and to stop worrying.
When her husband returned to the ward after going home for a few hours kip he returned to find his wife showing signs of cyanosis (blueness to the extremities related to symptoms of shock)and the and also was informed she passed a clot roughly the size of 2 handfuls.
SHe also informed him this had occurred twice previously and that the Nurses had stated this was normal.
On the blueness of the lips they said it was down to the ward being cold and shut the window.
To cut a long story short this continued to happen for a further 17 hours.
The woman was told to go have a bath to freshen up and when she did so the water in the bath turned red with blood.
At this point a Doctor was called who immediately diagnosed Hypovolemic Shock and she washed rushed into theatre.
Unfortunately the bleeding she sustained resulted in her going into Circulatory Collapse meaning the y couldn’t get any lines in to administer anesthetic needed to go back in a suture the high tare that the Doctor had originally missed on initial clean up
So they stitched her raw.
Over 50 stitches were used.
By the time the first blood transfusion was administered she was already on the brink of death.
Unfortunately for her she stopped breathing and died for around 11 minutes only to be resuscitated after 3 attempts and survived.
She survived and still lives to this day albeit with numerous ailments to most of the organs in her body.
That was 20 years ago.
I think the lord for every day we have had together since.
You can of course choose to ignore this as fanciful made up shite.

Many cases Monti…really? Where can I research that? I agree many people have been (thankfully )successfully resuscitated if treated swiftly ( usually with CPR ) but are there any cases when someone has come back from being dead for not even years/months/weeks/days/hours?. No, because it isn’t biologically possible to come back from the dead. Why would ( for example ) god not allow say a child who has died, harmed none in their short life, have a loving family who obviously don’t want their child to die, why wouldn’t god bring her back to life, why would he allow her death in the first place? And more importantly Monti( jokin btw ) you believe in an after life but don’t believe ah live in Sydney? Ach, each to their own. Peace.

Sorry bhoys, there is no god, no afterlife and no heaven or hell there. It will be just like before we were born. Peaceful and quiet. I meet puny humans every day who aren’t all powerful like god is supposed to be yet they comfort the sick, feed the hungry and protect children. Any kind and tolerant human I know would do a better job than god is doing for his ‘children.’
Monti, the kind of help I need from Jesus is pretty basic stuff. Can he heal the sick? Why has he ruined several lives with Parkinson’s, Motor Neurone Disease, Dementia, etc.by not snapping his fingers and curing my friends and family? If Jesus loves me he has a funny way of showing it. I agree with Bondibrian.
I read somewhere that there are trillions of galaxies. A god who can’t cure the common cold couldn’t make trillions of galaxies. 270,000 people die on our planet every day. Is it no time to start healing a few of them, especially children?

That about encapsulates it Devoy. I believe most humans have an altruistic approach to life, as there are many people who are sociopaths in life. There is no ‘god’ listening to prayers. It simply doesn’t happen. But as humans we all need a hope because life can be buken difficult at times.
