Celtic Diary Wednesday October 28: It’s All Happening

To win the treble this year, Celtic must win at Tynecastle, and Hearts are ready and waiting to inflict a calamitous blow to the already ailing Ronny Deila.

If its not players throwing tantrums, players fighting on the pitch, former players threatening to call Paddy McCourt during a street melee, then it’s the positive mentality of the Hearts players that will see the Norwegian get his jotters.

So the papers hope, anyway.

Neil Alexander believes Hearts players winning mentality

can help them dump Celtic out of League Cup and win trophies

David “Desperate ” McCarthy in the Record;

Neil Alexander knows a winning dressing room when he sees one. This is a goalkeeper whose long and varied career has earned him a collection of medals that few players in Scotland can match.

He has gone through the card – a Third Division gong with Rangers. Second and First Division medals with Livingston. A Championship badge with Hearts and three Premier League titles with Rangers before their drop down the divisions.

Throw in three League Cup winners medals and two in the Scottish Cup with the Ibrox club and the point is underlined in indelible ink. Alexander knows when he is around a group of players capable of winning trophies.

So, when Tynecastle No 1 insists Hearts can mount in a challenge in this season’s League Cup AND the Premiership title, it is not a flight of fancy. Alexander really believes it,….

I’m sure he does. Along with the existence of Santa Claus, the tooth fairy and Rangers football club.

Ahead of the game, Ronny Deila has some tough decisions to make.

Does he stick with Keiran Tierney ?

Does he have a full paramedic team on standby as Hearts will surely try to kick their way to a win ?

In training this week, Deila looked ahead and had a couple of the players kick lumps out of each other as a practice. Emilio Izaguirre and Nadir ciftci apparently the two most enthusiastic.

Izzy left dizzy after mad Nad bust-up

I’d be dizzy if my nads had been bust up , I suppose.

It’s the Scottish sun, so not only is the headline a little sensationalist, and a little testing to those of us with a working knowledge of the English language, it’s important to look at the text below.

EMILIO IZAGUIRRE needed stitches in his ear after being booted in the head by Celtic team-mate Nadir Ciftci during a furious training ground bust-up.

Hoops hitman Ciftci lashed out following a heavy challenge from the Honduran left-back as tempers flared at Lennoxtown this morning.

Embedded image permalink

As usual, social media exploded, demanding that ciftci be sacked, sold or shot, when really it’s important to remeber that this sort of thing goes on all the time. It jusy so happens a reporter/photographer was on hand to catch it.

And , of course, it suits the “trouble at t’mill ” theme around Celtic Park just now.

Older readers will remeber the infamous headbutt from Tosh MacKinlay on Henrik Larsson. Even older ones may recall stories of a battle which would have rivalled anything Ali and Fraser could have come up with between Jim Brogan and Bertie Auld.

So it’s maybe not worth paying too much attention to.

Deila seems to think so ;

It happens all the time. We want intensity in training.

“It was a tackle and a reaction and Izaguirre got hit in his ear.

“He had to go to get it stitched and he’s fine for tomorrow.

“It was a reaction from another player to a tackle.

“I always say to my players I want 100 per cent. They are very good at that.

“We have a fantastic atmosphere in the training pitch. It’s been very good lately.

“Sometimes it goes a little too hot and today there was an incident but I have talked with both players and everybody is ready for tomorrow.”

In fact, it appears he was a bit “enthusiastic ” in his day as well.

“I never actually fought on a training ground, Yes, I got angry and I was very hard to manage as a player because I thought I was the coach myself. I always say what I mean in a room and in the media and it brought me a lot of difficult situations to handle. But if I didn’t try these then I would never have got better. I did things that I will never do now with experience.”

Looks a bit rough, I suppose;

and we still don’t know if Kris Commons has landed yet.

Tonight promises to be awkward, but not difficult.

Craig Gordon should keep his place, Ambrose , Simunovic , Boyata and Izaguirre at the back, allowing Tierney a wee break and preventing the possibility of Izaguirre and Ciftci going for seconds on the bench, Biton and Johansen in the two withdrawn berths, allowing Brown a rest, Rogic and commons in the wide roles, with Stuart Armstrong getting a chance in the number ten role, -i’d like to see it, Ronny probably doesn’t, and of course local favourite Leigh Griffiths up front.

Or maybe not. Griffiths can allow his heart to rule his head at Tynecastle.

Why not give Carlton Cole a shot , if he’s fit ?

Or even Ciftci, allowing him to give a physical presence in what will be a physical game ?

Let him run some of that steam off against other teams, instead of his own.

Paul Paton appeared in court yesterday and was fined £500 after changing his plea to the assault on Lukasz Zaluska after everyone had been out refreshing themselves.

You may have been following the case.

It was hilarious.

James Doleman was in court, and deserves a big round of applause for letting us know what happened.

Proceedings began just after 11.30am with Mr Paton entering a plea of “incrimination,” laying the blame for the assault he is accused of on a Christopher McClusky. Crown counsel told the court that the victim of the assault, footballer Lucaz Zaluska was not available to give evidence as he was in Germany.

The first witness called for the prosecution was Mark Wilson, 31. After being sworn in Wilson told the court he was a former footballer with Dundee United FC and had left the club in January this year. The witness told the court he had been in Glasgow’s Ashton Lane on the 20th October 2014 socialising with his wife Kelly and a group of friends including the accused Paul Paton and a Christopher McClusky.

At around 11.40, Wilson said, the group left a public house on the lane “Jinty McGinties,” and met Lucasz Zalusaka, a former Celtic team-mate. Asked to describe Zaluska’s state Wilson said he was “pretty far gone” and under the influence of alcohol. The witness then told the court that Paton introduced himself to Zalusaka and shook his hand. Zaluska then said “you are Rangers” to Paton who replied “no I play with Dundee United.” Zaklusak, the court heard “wouldn’t let it go,” and kept saying “you are Rangers” and “I hate Rangers,””I thought he was being overly-aggressive” Wilson said.

The witness told the court that at this point he felt “something might happen” and stepped between Paton and Zaluska. Wilson said he then ushered Zalusaka away towards Byres Rd and advised him to get a taxi home but the goalkeeper then turned round and “started shouting up the lane, “I hate Rangers, I want to kill all Rangers fans.” “I asked him what he was talking about,” Wilson said. The accused, the witness told the court, then approached Zalusaka and “slapped” him. The goalkeeper, Wilson said, then stumbled and fell backwards against a taxi. “I was surprised it [the slap] would knock a guy as big as him down,” Wilson added.

Asked by the prosecution the witness agreed Zaluska had not “laid hands” on Paton although he had been aggressive. Wilson said he then went to leave the scene in a taxi but “within a minute” he heard a “commotion” and looked back to see Zaluska unconscious in the ground with blood coming from his head. The witness told the court he did not see how this happened. He then went to Zalusaka and stayed with him until he regained consciousness.

The court was then shown CCTV footage taken from a camera inside a branch of the TSB on Ashton lane/Byers Rd. A man in the footage, Wilson said, appeared to be Paul Paton. The recording, the court was told, appeared to show a “coming together” of two people, however because of the angle only the leg of the second person can be seen. A further piece of footage, Wilson agreed, showed him and Zalusaka in Ashton Lane with the witness holding the goalkeeper back “to stop him getting to Paul.” The pair then walk down the lane towards a taxi rank at the bottom of the lane. Wilson identified another person on the footage as a journalist, Matt McGlone, but told the court McGlone had not been in his company on the night in question and he had only found out who he was after the incident.

There was then a brief break while a legal matter was discussed

When proceedings resumed Wilson was asked about the injuries sustained by Zaluska and told the court there was “a fair bit of blood,” on the victims head.

Defence Counsel, Mr Lavell, then rose to cross-examine the witness. Wilson confirmed the incident occurred on a Sunday and the players would not be expected back for training until the following Tuesday. Asked by counsel Wilson said he had “four or five pints” and a “couple of vodkas” but did not think either he, or Paton, were particularly drunk as he had consumed the alcohol over nine or so hours.

The witness told the court that Zaluska was with two woman and there was another man who appeared to be in his company but he had not been introduced to him. He agreed that it was the goalkeeper who “appeared to have an issue” and nothing Paton had said was anything other than “friendly conversation.” “In a matter of seconds, he [Zaluska] appeared to get something in his head about Rangers,” Wilson added. The witness agreed that that the goalkeeper had said to him: “I’ll phone Paddy McCourt [an Irish Celtic player] and tell him you are with a hun.”

The witness told the court that he had been “taken aback” by Zaluska’s comments especially given the crowded nature of Ashton Lane at the time and agreed it was a possible that other people could have got involved given what he was shouting. Wilson said that Paton had initially been calm but as the goalkeeper kept shouting he “became more animated,” and finally slapped Zaluska on the face. “It was not a clean punch,” he told the court. The witness said that after that he had left the scene having “had enough,” of the situation.

Proceedings then adjourned for lunch/

The defendant denies the charges, the trial continues.

And it did;

When proceedings resumed defence counsel for Paul Paton continued his cross-examination of witness Mark Wilson. Wilson told the court that on the night in question he had heard a commotion and returned to the victim Lucas Zaluska and found him unconscious. Wilson said that a group of people had gathered was “shouted at” by another man, who appeared to be drunk, who said “I saw what you did,” and “I remember you at Celtic.” The witness said that he later found out the man was a journalist, Matt McGlone.

Wilson told the court that an ambulance and the police then attended the scene and he spoke to officers about the incident.

Mark Wilson then stepped down from the witness box and the prosecution called his wife Kelly Wilson, 30, to the stand. The witness told the court she had been in Ashton Lane on the morning of 20 September 2014 with her husband and others and including the accused and a friend of his called Chris. Wilson said that when she left the bar they had met Lucasz Zaluska, a former team-mate of her husband and a conversation resulted. The witness said that at first the discussion appeared to be friendly but she then heard Zaluska shouting “football things,” towards the accused. “He was very aggressive,” she told the court.

Paton, she said, then began shouting back at Zaluska asking “what are you saying?” The witness told the court that she stayed with Paton while her husband walked Zaluska down towards a taxi rank. The accused, she said, then walked towards Zalusaka, who was still shouting, despite her asking him to stay with her. She then testified that she saw Paton “throw a punch” at Zaluska’s head over her husband’s shoulder. The goalkeeper, the court heard, “stumbled back” and appeared to trip and fall over. She then returned to her friends around the corner from the confrontation.

Wilson then told the court that 5 minutes of so later she heard “loud screams” from further down the lane and when she went to investigate she saw Zaluska “lying on the ground with blood coming from his head.” She said that a man in the crowd that formed accused her husband of being involved in the attack and she had spoken to him, Wilson added that she did not see the defendant at this time.

Defence counsel then rose to cross-examine and the witness confirmed that she had no idea why Zalusaka was being aggressive and she had not seen Paton doing anything to provoke him. The victim “looked as if he was looking for a fight,” Wilson confirmed telling the court he was shouting “I will kill you,” at Paton. The witness was then shown a statement she gave to the police after the incident and she confirmed that to the best of her knowledge it was true and accurate.

The next witness called to the stand by the prosecution was Matt McGlone, 60. After being sworn in McGlone told the court that he was a journalist and publisher. The witness told the court he had been in Ashton Lane in the early hours of 20 September 2014 after he had been drinking with friends. McGlone said he and a friend were walking down the lane on the way to get a taxi when he saw 3 men; he recognised Jim Goodman, Mark Wilson and Lucas Zalusaka along with the defendant Paul Paton, who at the time he didn’t know. Wilson, he told the court, was standing between Paton and Zaluska trying to keep them apart “‘I’d say Paton was the aggressor” the witness told the court.

McGlone said he approached Zalusaka and advised him to get a taxi but as he moved away Paul Paton appeared attacked the goalkeeper and “smacked him on the side of the head,” making the victim fall to the ground. The witness told the court that Mark Wilson had been standing next to Zalusaka and McGlone said to him “some mate you, leaving your mate lying like that.” The goalkeeper, he said, then got up and walked back up the lane towards Paton who hit him again leading to Zaluska “bouncing his head off the wall.” Another man, who the witness said he did not recognise, then also hit the goalkeeper.

The witness then told the court that Paton and the other man ran off and Mark Wilson returned and threatened him saying “get to f*ck out of this lane.” McGlone was then shown some photographs and he confirmed he had taken these himself. The photos, the court heard, showed Wilson and Zalusaka just before the incident began and the aftermath of the alleged assault including a shot of “blood in the gutter” at Ashton Lane. McGlone then told the court that when the police arrived Mark Wilson had pointed at him and said “arrest that man.”

Counsel for the defence then rose to cross-examine McGlone. The advocate put it to the witness that he “had taken an interest” in what was going on as it involved well-known football players and questioned his evidence that Paton had been the aggressor in the incident. The defence then showed the witness CCTV footage of Ashton Lane and asked if he had seen Kelly Wilson standing with the accused. McGlone replied that he had not and told the court he had not heard Zaluska say anything about Rangers or hear him threatening Paton, I didn’t hear any shouting.” he told the court.

Defence counsel then put it to the witness that he was “clearly drunk” at the time of the incident, “ask the police who was drunk?” McGlone replied. The witness was then given a copy of his police statement from the night in question in which he says the victim was punched while he was getting into a taxi. “You didn’t say anything about what happened before the assault” counsel suggested. “I answered the questions I was asked” he replied adding “I know you are scraping around.” “You didn’t tell the police about the earlier incident in Ashton Lane?” the defence barrister said, “didn’t you think that was important?” “The court asked me the police didn’t,” McGlone replied.

Paton’s advocate then put it to the witness that the court had heard other evidence that Mark Wilson was standing between Zaluska and Paton when the first punch was thrown.” “I’m standing here telling you the exact truth,” McGlone replied adding “and you are trying to make up some concocted story.” The Sheriff then intervened telling the witness that counsel “was only doing his job,” and asked McGlone to confine himself to answering the questions put to him.

Defence counsel then suggested that the witness did not see Paton hit Zaluska a second time and suggested that the assault was in fact carried out by Christopher McClusky. “I was there and you weren’t,” McGlone responded. The witness repeated his assertion that there had been no shouting coming from the victim and said that any story to the contrary was a “concoction.” McGlone also said that he had laid a charge of “aggressive behaviour against Mark Wilson and the footballer had called him asking him to drop the action

The prosecution then rested and court adjourned.

Having considerable courtroom experience myself in my chosen professions of drinking and fighting, I would think that -and I’m only guessing-Patons lawyers sat down and told their client that his witness was a liar and that he should change his plea , otherwise he’d not be at home for Christmas.

As i say, i’m only guessing.

For the known facts, you’d need to ask Matt Mcglone, editor of the Alternative View, who helpfully tweeted a few snippets once the trial was over. He saw the incident, and as you have seen, was in court;

Pity Mark Wilson didn’t tell the Court today about phoning me apologising 7 times for me to drop my charge on him

Or Wilson lying totally to Jackie McNamara about how much drink he had, only then to admit to it days later. Was fined, suspended then freed

How Wilson came up with that story on Zaluska in Court today really was something else. Look in the mirror if you can ever!

I was grilled by Paton’s defence for over an hour in witness box. He tried but couldn’t find a contradiction to my accurate account

After listening to Wilson & wife’s account 2day I hope never to be near their company ever.If I was Zaluska I’d be raging at Wilson’s claims

3 people gave evidence in court today. Wilson & wife, then me. After I gave evidence Paton admitted guilt. Wilson’s account was chronic

Wilson wants to be a tv pundit, but theres already one Wilson at the Beeb who can’t be trusted ,

but perhaps there’s a furture for Mark Wilson working with the other fellow in that picture..

The Wilson and Nevin Didn’t See It and Didn’t Hear It show.

That would be a winner.

Nevin could explain how he interprets sound, and Wilson how he sees what is happening in fron tof him.

They could use wee pie charts  to explain to their audience, which one would anticipate not being the brightest section of the population, to get their points across;

Yesterday’s diary provoked a debate about the fate of Lord Livingston, who is still on the board of Celtic despite causing a little controversy when he voted for the continuation  and the extensionof poverty in parts of the country, despite, in an email to regular reader Funkky , claiming to have stood in the jungle as a kid, had the subbuteo team and was never without a packet of the hooped spearmint chews “Pacers ”

Talking through his arse, and the sooner we silence it by sending that particular arse scudding down London Road the better.

His excuse was that he felt as it was the will of the House of Commons, he had to vote in favour of the cuts.

And not, of course, that having made him a Lord and boosting his now ermine cloaked ego, the government wanted a little favour in return to try to keep their policy that favours government of business by business for business on track.

Heard it all before.

Maybe he could explain this, then. From an article on the Celtic Trust website…

It is against this background of high and rising unemployment, growing economic insecurity and falling season ticket sales that we find Ian Livingstone, Celtic Director and Chief Executive of BT adding his name to a letter sent to the daily Telegraph by 35 ‘business leaders’ in support of George Osborne’s budget plans. The letter, published on 18 October, three days before the spending review, urged the Chancellor not to dilute the spending cuts announced in his June 2010 emergency Budget.

More on Livingston

I don’t care about his views. Thats his business.

I do care that he does this whilst pertaining to be “Celtic Minded “, which does not involve a campaign of self interest at the expense of the weker and more vunerable sections of society

There’s a petition demanding his resignation.

Sign it. Then get you friends to sign it.

Or don’t.

It’s up to you.

but while you consider that, read this…

When you see people who are trying to make some kind of living for themselves on shit wages it makes you wonder what kind of people support and vote for the tories. This man was the main man at bt and will have had a very nice pension provided for him. He then moves on to another lucrative venture because he is now a member of the so called elite. Tory scum.

Tam,
I work 30 hours a week, minimum wage.
I am earning less now than I did in the 90’s, tax credits are vital for my family to survive.
My wage is £200 pwk and text credits of £200 pwk giving us an income of £400 pwk.

We do our best for the family but the pressure is always on, there isn’t always a holiday every year but so fucking what, it’s the way it is.

The minimum wage should be £10 an hour, maybe then families can lift themselves out of poverty!

God bless the poor and God bless the Celtic HH!

And your comments Monti is the reality for millions of people. To think a Celtic supporter and director of our club with our history would vote to penaise those who need our support defies belief.

Livingston must be removed as we must never forget our roots and what our club was created for.

Good Diary today Ralph,
Paul Paton is a Dick.
Moving on…I hope there is a demonstration of some sort at tonight’s game but definitely on Saturday against Aberdeen at home, regarding this low life Livingstone.
I don’t buy all this shite about ” it’s his views away from the club”, no it fucking isn’t, if it’s his views then he carries them with him, in and away from the ground.

Celtic exists due to poverty and helplessness, that’s why we are fucking here, that’s why I’m proud of the club.

This fanny must be forced out now, ” Business acumen ” some say…utter pish!

” Celtic first and Celtic last and Celtic overall “!

i would hate to think some fans wanting us not to win just so Ronny gets the boot…..im not accusing anyone of this but i think the Ronny haters might be thinking anything to get him out would do….its only the league cup after all……sad but i think there will be some fans with that thought in their heads.
but again …hey im just a ronny lover looking for any angle to back him

Let’s bully the guy out the door. Classy.
Celtic Plc is a corporate vehicle for making money, the Football side is the main means to make that money.
This guy was brought in to find ways of improving that aspect of the business and as far as I am aware he among others is doing that.
He states he is a Celtic man and who am I or anyone else for that matter to question that?
This was probably his initial pull to come to Celtic but of course there is also financial reward for doing this too.
Though I doubt very much it matches his package at BT.
You can slate the man all you want for his views politically and privately all you want but the fact remains he is not at Celtic in a Political Capacity.
He is here to improve our Clubs ability to make our Finances work better for us.
In doing so this will increase the likelihood of Celtic being in a position to put more into the Charitable work we undertake.
Interesting some are keen to use his Political work as leverage to force his exit yet none of you have stopped
to consider this guy may or may not give to Charity himself privately?
If he did I am pretty sure Brother Walfrid would approve.
Though I can’t prove it either way It’s not my business if he does anyway.
Never a good idea to start using mob rule tactics to push an agenda it seldom ends nicely.
He will do what’s right for him and the Board will do likewise.
That’s how it works in business.

Hi Charlie

Whilst I agree with a lot of what you are saying, do you think the deid club’s supporters could have done themselves a favour by bullying some of their directors out of their club? Even when they are billionaires fae Motherwell or big handed Yorkshire men, or, indeed, glib and shameless liars dragging a war chest ahint them? After all, they were brought to that deid club for their financial acumen and to, don’t laugh, bring money into the club. Not protesting against this guy is just doing what he is doing and not using your vote or your conscience.

I don’t advocate bullying anymore than I advocate the mans political views.
As for the dark side they went from bullying to,violence, threats of violence and viable devices in a matter of no time so probably a bad example?

Charlie; Surely the BBC or any other public body or employer would employ a thug like Paton who has just been found guilty of a serious assault on a member of the public? and, as I have read the reporting on here and on Celtic Quick News, had the trial proceeded he would have been facing a stretch in the nick by Xmas, and, imho Wilson would have been up on a charge of perjury. Or is it because I live in England I am taking a rather naïve view of the situation in Scotland/ H.H. G.B.R.D.

ewanbhoy… whilst i believe ronny could easily win a treble i have no faith whatsoever in him taking us into the UCL group stages…. i am of the opinion that we cut our losses now with this ‘experiment’ and get someone in who knows how to win football mathces in europe…. as that is the level we must base our performance and progress… david moyes the standout for me whom i believe would find it hard to turn us down with all the glory of being a WINNING celtic manager brings… and by that i mean succesful in europe… not domestically…. as for lord parkhead he must be run out of the club now as he goes against everything our fathers, grandfathers etc believe in supporting our club

The House of Lords were banned from vetoing Financial Bills sent up from the House of Commons after a rammy in 1911 or so, and therefore can send a Bill back 3 times and then they are told to get tae. Therefore the Lords, Ladies and Arseholes wouldn’t be able to block this Bill but they can vote against to show either support for the poor or that they feel the Bill is flawed.

Now, there are quite a few Lords, Ladies and Arseholes, who have said they don’t approve of the Bill but voted anyway as it would be unconstitutional, i.e. Parliament would ignore them anyway. So why would these people not vote against as they think it will harm the poor? I would posit the theory that it is because voting against the government would see them blocked from getting lucrative posts in the Select committees and also, more importantly, from hoovering up very well paid jobs and directorships at big companies and places like…Celtic FC.

So, Mr Livingstone, I presume the memory of standing on the terraces will remind you of the poor people alongside you, (before they were priced out of the game), and mibbe, just mibbe, if you can remember being a fan you might just remember your conscious and protest accordingly with the privileged vote you have.

Weighty points of constitutional law today. As I said yesterday, the vote that his grace cast was in sharp contrast to the founding principles and values of Celtic. We generate revenue to put a team on the pitch and compete as well as raise money and resources to help those less fortunate than ourselves. His vote was even more important given his role at Celtic and what we stand for. There are plenty of great business people with more empathy for those less fortunate who could work at Celtic. Anyway more importantly, I really dislike Hearts and their vile supporters and I would really like us to wipe the floor with them tonight and make a statement on the pitch.

To be honest Charlie, I never thought of asking you direct Charlie. Funnily enough I have always been under the impression that you were a Ronnie supporter and I have been in agreement with your stance; but only see myself as a very occasional poster on this site although today I’ve had about four, while I
always look forward to reading the diary every day so maybe I am more of a browser/lurker.
While this is a Celtic/football blog Ralph does bring a lot of politics into his contents and as long as he keeps seeing the Tories for the evil scumbags that they are, that’s fine by me. Seeing your defence of Livingston’s vote on the tax credit bill in the HoL did make me wonder if you were Murdo an acknowledged Unionist/Conservative for over 5 years, but then I wouldn’t expect him to post on here, but then again you never know.
So there you are Charlie, I just hope that you didn’t think that I daren’t address you directly. H.H. G.B.R.D.

That’s a good one plum! Go back to follow follow and you’ll find real live fascist who subscribe to master race beliefs and structural bigotry. Can you really fail to see the point here? Is Plum dumb? If I join an all vegan enterprise and then vote for steak dinners for all because someone else wants that, I place myself in a very difficult situation. It’s called hypocrisy and its very plain to see in this case. He laid his belief out publicly and it is in sharp contrast with the founding ethos and values of Celtic. He should consider his position in this case. He seems to be able to have two coexisting and directly opposite values at play. Can he work for an institution founded on alleviating poverty and at the same time vote for polices likely to cause poverty?

nobody wants to see celtic beat tonight or next week for that matter… i may have posted in a rage last week about dundee utd but i certainly didnt mean it… i think ronny is more than capable of delivering the treble, infact, he SHOULD deliver the treble… i have no confidence whatsoever in the man taking us into the UCL group stage.. something i feel is possible with this group of players… it is for that reason i want him out as we need 6 months to bed in a new manager in time for qualification next season… we need a manager who knows how to win in europe… and play the game for 90mins.. who can spot that zonal marking doesnt work…. someone who learns from his mistakes…. david moyes fits the bill for me… imo he would take the job… win trophies and progress in the champions league!!! I agree bgbhoy. Ronny absolutely should deliver the treble. At the very least the league, but ANY almost half decent manager could do that (with all due respect blah blah blah). But the big issue is Europe. Not for one second do I think we have a divine right to be in the CL, but with the players and budget we have available we should certainly have performed better in the qualifiers these last two seasons. And don’t get me started on the Molde shambles.

I have nothing against Ronny personally, he seems like a right decent guy, I just have no faith that he will get us into the CL next season.

That said I think he will still be in charge for those games, and I hope and pray that I am proved wrong and he does lead us through. HH

Ronny Deila would have won the treble last season if it hadn’t been for establishment intervention.

Oh, and aside from politicians taking the piss out of the poor, I really hope we blooter this mob tonight. The last game against the pyrotechnic Tarts was when I really started to worry about what was happening in the dressing room as we played brilliantly in the first half whilst still missing loads of chances to score and then…second half was all over the place and the play we saw in the first half was gone. Who’s fault would that be? I bet on it being the players getting the hump from being given advice they didn’t care for. Of course, I haven’t a scooby as to what happens in the dressing room as I am never there but something must have happened. 3 nil is what I would predict.

Also nice to see the debate on here, this really is my favourite site and has been since I first found it years ago to read the match reports, (Taxi!), and have stayed ever since. Keep up the good work Lads, and Hail, Hail!

Charlie Saiz, I don’t approve of “mob rule” or “bullying” etc, but I asked the guy why he voted as he did and he replied with the ” For what its worth, I would make changes to the tax credit proposals but I votes against the motion as it is not the constitutional place of the unelected House of Lords to vote down a financial measure which is clearly the will of the House of Commons” . Fair enough, so I asked him how come around 290 other Peers knowing the “rules” as he did, voted against the cuts…..I’m still waiting for his answer.
Peers:- someone who pees a lot…i.e. someone full of pish.

Steve Naive

I watched Simunovic, I mean really watched him on and off the ball and thought early on that we had won a watch. Right footed but can also pass with his left when needed. He can think and position himself where the ball might break to and when it does, has the speed to get to it and deal with it intelligently. Contrary to reports, he was at least challenged at times and was good enough, (particularly on the ground) with Boyatta, to nulify any, admittedly weak, Utd.efforts.I think he is a better footballer than defender and would show him old video of Colin Todd to marry both. He does have a tendency to go through players in the air (but not in a Bobo way)and also on the deck when forwards gather the ball with their back to them and this results in them falling and fouls against us. I fear this may be the cousins best chance and even more so should he be booked, sent off..
I know it is early doors for Jozo and I truly hope he is the answer for the next three years at least (before moneyball kicks in).
Interesting the Herald describes the game tonight as ‘powderkeg’ and the BBC ‘SPORTS NEWS’ HAS JUST DONE SO AGAIN. LET’S SKELP THE COUSINS.

Funkyy

Steve Naive, I watched him closely in the Dundee Utd game and he looked lean and fast physically and also quick to react. Obviously it was only 1 game and we’ll have a better idea after half a dozen games…but my first impression was “Virgil who?”.
For those demanding a guaranteed treble every year from Ronny, just remember that we would have had one last year (almost certainly) if it hadn’t been for the ref. Ronny’s not just got to beat the opposing team, he has to deal with the Brothers in black. If we have one cup won and we are leading by a good few points in the league this season they will torpedo us again..we won’t be allowed to win trebles if they can help it so I think you should get that dream out of your minds and cut Ronny some slack.
Maybe now, injuries permitting, he’ll be able to field a settled defense, or better still a settled team, and we’ll start to see results improving especially in Europe.

I was watching the match on the internet but I had to go out 10 mins into the second half. Checked the score a few minutes ago….very pleased!!(understatement. That was a potential banana skin match, and although we weren’t fast and sharp during the part I saw, we certainly looked like we could only give it away.
And for once Ronny made a substitution early enough for the player to get his teeth into the game, and it paid off.
I’m now gonna try and find the highlights so I can savour it a wee bit more.
That’s one down, next Aberdeen, then Molde, then Ajax. If we win these Ronny will definitely have won back some fans’ lost faith in his plans.
