Celtic Diary Friday August 14: Promising Youngster To Join Celtic

Hibernian midfielder-i had to check that, based on this headline, and others like it;

Rangers target Scott Allan set for Celtic medical

Scott Allan is poised to move up a level and join Celtic today.

Which, of course, will mightily annoy the press, the peepil and the First Division club, who it appears couldn’t get hold of Dave King to authorise the over investment he had spoken of.

One or two remain adamant the deal just won’t happen, but they are the sort with a reputation for not recognising the facts;

Embedded image permalink

Allan becomes the latest in a long line of Rangers supporters to don the hoops, including McGrain, Dalglish and Alfie Conn, who used to be a hun but is alright now.

A quick glance at company law showed  Allan that he couldn’t join his boyhood heroes, due to their liquidation a few years ago, and we hear one or two of his old photo’s will be removed until he can show his grandchildren what he used to wear at Halloween

Embedded image permalink

Apart from anything else, you have to admire the lad. He’s been subject to a ruthless campaign to join the new club at Ibrox, even though he has turned them down before, and was seen as their great white hope. Dave king, the convicted fraudster and liar said that his club would “overinvest ” in players, but clearly that overinvestment doesn’t run to anything more than a quarter of a million pounds, and he’s been surprisingly unavailable for comment on this issue.

The press are running with the line that Hibs wouldn’t sell to a rival, but the fact of the matter is that the Edinburgh club have stood up to the old establishment ways, because the Ibrox club is now a busted flush, and no longer carrries any weight in footballing circles, as Scottish football has realised they can actually do without them.

Have a look at this;

Just to clarify, it’s Scott Allan Johnstone is referring to, and not Scott Brown. Wasn’t there a similar campaign a few years ago, and the same with Paul Hartley ?

The internet wags have been at work, composing a few ditties for the lad.

Embedded image permalink

Reading between the lines, it appears that Allan wanted to play at a higher level, and didn’t want to join second Rangers, because, er, its not a higher level. He doesn’t want to leave Scotland, having failed to settle at West Brom, which is in itself understandable. Horrible place.

Although apparently it’s better than some English towns…

Embedded image permalink

So the only place left for him, who could reallistically cater for his demands, was Celtic. and like everyone else, he’ll have to prove he’s worthy of it.

At £300,000 or so, and Dylan McGeouch it’s good business for Hibernian, and when you consider Liam Henderson is going there on loan, agreement permitting, then they have done very well out of it.

As opposed to a wee bit up front and some more if he plays in the champions League, which was on the table from Ibrox.

Anyway, we hear he’s not happy about the way Second Rangers treat their players. apparently the club made fun of Ian black, tragically addicted to gambling;

When the forst Rangers disappeared, there were lots of little jbes at how their fans would watch their grandchildren cbecome Celtic fans, which would have made visiting day at Barlinnie awkward for all of them. One lass, however, has prepared for the inevitable;

Rangers Fan Gets Celtic Badge Tattooed On Her Bum

That’s her bottom, by the way, not her boyfriend.

A Rangers season ticket holder has gone and got a Celtic badge tattooed on her bum during what one can only imagine was a fishbowl-driven drunken rampage in Magaluf. Classic.

A fishbowl driven drunken rampage ? Okay, I’m in. Sounds like fun.

Embedded image permalink

She needs to get that mole checked as well.

Her thoughts ?

Duno whats worse, getting a celtic tattoo on ma bum or the fact am a rangers season ticket holder!??! Fs cheers maga

Well, i guess she won’t be wearing this t shirt;

Wonder how her boyfriend feels ?

Anyhoo, short and sweet today, very, very busy.

What will Scott Allan bring to the team? I don’t know all I know is the reason a lot of celtic fans don’t turn up is because the team is boring to watch and we can’t score more than 2 goals can’t remember the last time I left a game and said I enjoyed that but hey ho ill still go every week and I wish more fans would turn up after all we are supporters ( note the word supporters ) not having a dig just a point of view

Daviebhoy,

Shocking comment. Call yourself a Celtic supporter?

8 years ago

To anyone complaining about the poster using the word darkie above. You are perfectly entitled to complain as the person is obviously a cretin but please dont call for removal of the post.

The reason its staying up rather than take it down is we need to be well aware that we have plenty of imbeciles on Celtic sites( I’m not gonna assume which team he supports) so any assumptions of Celts being above this sort of moronic behaviour is incorrect and something we should all remember.

Dont worry, it wont be allowed to be repeated, but its always worthwhile that we all get a wee reality check to the idiots in our midsts to ensure we stay grounded and able to voice our disapproval at such output.

hear hear – only got to read the diary there now; if you’d removed the comment earlier, I wouldnt have realised what a fckin total clown Daviebhoy is………

Re Wednesday night, it was bloody entertaining I’ll say that! Gimme 25 shots on goal in the SPL every now and again and a 2-2 draw rather than 3 or 4 shots and a 1-0 win playing the ball over and back around the middle. Winning isnt everything; we have to throw off the shackles every now and again and entertain. Now right enough after a draw, I;d settle for a less entertaining 1-0 this Saturday. But no harm to mix it up every now and again.

Boring to watch !! Would you rather we were good to watch and win nothing like the great TBs team of the 90s, some fans forget they days to easy I will never forget the brady, macari days when we were in the doldrums that’s my first memory of supporting celtic, a don’t care how we win just as long as we do and are champions at the end of the season long may it continue.

I agree with a lot of that. I think Ronny would love to entertain 100% all the time but knows the reality for fans is winning above all else. Those who see but do not believe just have to read the reactions to the draw on Wednesday as against the euphoria of the previous week when we played the most deliberately negative football I have seen in many years from Celtic. But what did it achieve. Yes, the result we all wanted and we cheered and praised it from the heights. I recall and old saying about a cake and eating it….

Ralph

Short but oh so to the point. My only comment would be similar to drewster in asking what will he bring to Celtic? I really know nothing about the boy so have assessment to make on his ability or value. As for the inane media comments, they are best left in the bin from whence they were chucked out. I have not seen so many U turns since I stopped installing cludgies or was it drinking too much Guinness? I ask them one simple question. When and how did anyone ever believe the lad wanted to play for a second rate, second hand club whether Celtic were in the mix or not? Besides, have they not learned yet how Celic do transfer business? Even the manager doesn’t know who Peter is going to buy 🙂

That Sevco supporter taking the piss is an absolute stoter!!!! Mind you, they have been swallowing piss for three years now. At least we only have to watch it now and then 🙂

Caption: Thank fuck I’m not going to you lot?

Finally. Daviebhoy, that comment was simply tasteless and unacceptable in the extreme. However, I am not going to cast the first stone as I have put my big two in it many a time by wanting to be the joker. But, I do think an apology might go a long way to reassuring your fellow fans you made a pure arse of a joke on this one-of occasion. If you do not, then hell mend you and what you get.

Desi is right. Our support is not lilly white, never was and never will be. To claim otherwise is hypocritical. However, exposing the crime should go a long way to expunging it from our midst or, if not, excluding the perpetrators.

Generally, the Celtic supporters I know aren’t racist, homophobic or sectarian but some of that crops up on this forum just reminding me that there are Bhoys and bhoys (Ghirls and ghirls)
Shameful but not typical of our support.
Darkie? I haven’t heard that word for over fifty years! Maybe Davie has a globe with Ceylon and Tanganyika on it?
Allan would be a good buy. Is he in the Scott Brown mould? Broonie needs an understudy as time goes by and a replacement one day. Don’t know where Allan would fit at present but I trust Deila on this one. Go for it.

Inverness tomorrow. I’m afraid to say much after Killie but we need to think of Malmo mid-week.
Gordon
Fisher/Boyata/Van Dijk/Janko
Bitton/Johansen
Forrest/Rogic/Mackay-Steven
Griffiths

Shouldn’t Rogic be at the back with Bitton and Johansen up front?

Mulgrew to figure.

I think we are due a rugby score and finally for some of our chances to convert. It should be a romp for the bhoys. We’re too CLEVER and QUICK aren’t we?

In the Scott Brown mould? well, maybe not as aggressive, but the boy has the nack to find a pass and open up a defence, something we have lacked for a while.

The Huns may not have landed their man – if indeed they ever really wanted to – but they have succeeded in weakening one of their main rivals, so, mission accomplished. I don’t suppose the SFA/SPFL will be looking into how they provoked the whole saga and unsettled a player who had, until then, stated his happiness in Leith.
Is it just me or am I the only one who can’t fathom why we want to sign Allan, aside from stiffing the Huns. Is this lad, who’s only played one season in the Championship, going to improve us? Some fhans have already questioned why we signed Armstrong,GMS & Ciftci as they’re not deemed to be good enough, so why add Allan to the list?

Dan The Man
8 years ago

I have seen Allan play and he is next in line to take over from Commons. At the moment it is not what he can do for us but what we can do for him to get him up to speed.
Young Henderson will be a great player but we have got to get him in the team. This has to be his last loan period.

Scott Allan – My tuppence

Ralph and i had a chat about quality up front. Wee Griff cant do it all on his own and Ciftci will take a while given pressure, fitness and beer gut.

Broony and Biton cant do it all themselves so need rests and subbed now and again. Armstrongs feeling the pressure. Rogic is making his way back as is Mulgrew while Commons looks fragile. Johansen is filling in but true talents are being wasted. Hendersons marked with a ? under Ronnies current playbook.

So What will Allen bring?

A: Freshness – nothing like a wee jolt to remind folk theres fresh competition

B: Options – suddenly Johansen can play up the field and Allen could fill in for a Brown or Biton or Armstrong.

c: Vision. How many Celtic midfielders currently have vision. If Allen is a playmaker, any inside passes will be oh so welcome

8 years ago

I seam to be getting some criticism over my comments about our team being boring was not my aim to be negative because at times we have been and yes the correct result will always cover over the negatives but before you criticise my comments further ask this before posting when was the last time I left a game and said I really enjoyed that it was entertaining but no matter what I’ll still go every week HH

Do you not think Mcgeouch and Henderson will strengthen hibs ? Surely 2 good young attacking midfielders are better than one to hibs in that division, so a think it will make hibs stronger.

Allan will be a squad player it’s a long season and he has more experience than Henderson, and Mcgeouch is not going to get a sniff of the first team anyway so for the money on offer its a no brainer.

Armstrong and GMS have definitely improved our team no doubt so for some to deem them not good enough is nonsense in my opinion, is pukki, balde, borrigter not enough for fans to realise that were better going for young scottish talent at a fraction of the cost who know what playing for us is about.

The days of signing top players are gone.

Devoy45
8 years ago

Amen. Armstrong, Mackay-Steven, McGregor and Henderson are still works in progress for the future. All are good enough to feature regularly in the first team. All are better than most of our recent duff buys from abroad. We could use Allan right now just to give Brown and Bitton some needed time off. He would give us some accurate service to the strikers, which we’re not getting.
Remember when Broonie and his pal Kevin Thomson were both at Hibs? Thomson was branded a Celtic fan whilst Broonie was supposedly inclined to the Dark Side. Look how that turned out.
McGeogh, Henderson or McGregor would really improve Hibs— so everyone benefits. Also, young Allan will be treated well by our fans if he delivers and he has a real future with our club. Does Sevco even have a future?
When Big Jock was given a lot of stick by some of his community when he went to Celtic he said he then knew who his real friends were and wouldn’t miss the rest.

I find us more entertaining to watch now than I did under Lennon. We press quicker, move the ball quicker and seem to create more chances. Counter-intuitively we probably score fewer goals but I’d put this down to the team not having Hooper who you could rely on for 25 a season.
As for the Allan signing I’ve only seen him once, in the cup semi final last season, and he was the best player on the pitch by a mile. Big step up for him but hopefully he makes it. I also think he will get more game time than folk are saying as early indications are that Ronny is going to make full use of his squad this season.

Allan doesn’t fit the Ronnie mould of a player who moves the ball on quickly. But he’s very much in the Commons mould – someone who can come from the deep, beat a few opponents and deliver a defence-splitting pass. An obvious replacement as Commons approaches the final stages of his career.

Well said Pensionerbhoy in the last paragraph of your second post. I hope if Daviebhoy really is a Celt he’ll take heed of your words and do the right thing. I live in a country with all skin tones (including in my wife’s family) and I do my bit to spread the Celtic family ethic among friends, family and, basically, anybody who wants to talk football. We condemn bigotry, sectarianism and racism…and rightly so!!
Change of theme, re Scott Allan…you have to remember that if/when we qualify for the Champions group stages (and beyond!!!) the players will have a congested period, especially if Winter weather causes postponements. Add to that any injuries sustained by key players and you can see where it makes sense to be able to shuffle your creative midfield and rest players in turn while (hopefully) maintaining team performance and results. Even better if it embarrasses the Orcs and Keech Jackson….he never saw that “exclusive” coming did her? lol.
Finally, to end on a note of brevity, I read the short exchange below yesterday on “The CelticFanzone site and I spewed my tea over my computer screen!!! This must be one of the best put downs ever by this lassie….and cthe Orc could only answer with vulgarity, proving that, as I have said many times before, they don’t have a sense of humour!!! Names edited to protect the innocent and the stupid!!!

“Sam D.
The name is rangers fanny i know it pains you you bigoted moron but it was rangers then and rangers now and rangers for ever.

Nicola S.
So you support a club called ‘rangers fanny’ that had previously been called ‘rangers then’, ‘rangers now’ and ‘rangers for ever’?
Can’t say I’ve heard of any of them.

Sam D.

Last came to see Celtic on my 50th.
Popped into Celtic friendly pub prior to game and loudly ordered drinks in my pompey accent.
Could have heard a pin drop.
Had I not been in the company of my wife( her treat ) I would now probably be a well worn stain on the carpet of aforementioned pub.
And some have the audacity to suggest a fellow Celt may be racist……….. surely not.

Well done Daviebhoy!!
Now about the match today…we were great for the biggest portion of the game, then two (avoidable) mistakes gave two gifts to the opposition and it took the shine off what had been a perfect performance up until that moment. I’m not gonna slag the player who made the mistakes, he knows what he did wrong and he must feel bad enough about it. Taking a positive from all this (as I always try to do), he and the other guys will be even more alert and aware that they cannot afford anything less than 100% concentration for 100% of the game against Malmo. If we were gonna make these mistakes, better they happened in a league game where the damage was minimal (in terms of points and progress), instead of in a crucial match like the one coming up.
And hey, we looked good for most of the game and we scored 4 goals…this are looking up if we are still moaning about that. HH.

I’m not condoning nor condemning daviebhoy’s faux pas, however, my memory takes me back to Paul Wilson’s time at Celtic, early 70’s, when the scum used to give him serious racist abuse and our retort was, “I’d rather be a darkie than a hun” or ” I’d rather wear a turban than a sash” – think daviebhoy is of my generation and recalling those days / chants. It’s completely wrong of course, but in those innocent days we genuinely thought we were giving PW support – how niaive were we?
Re today’s game – thought we were brilliant for 60 minutes then decided to down tools and look towards Wednesday. ICT’s 2 goals were down to personal mistakes and team switching off with Wednesday in mind – Wednesday will be different.
