Celtic Diary Monday October 14

Celtics AGM takes place on the fifteenth of November, and a supporters resolution is gaining an awful lot more support than the board seem to want it to. According to the Record, Lawwell and co. will be writing to shareholders to ask them not to support the following resolution.

“We consider the SFA governance has displayed a disregard for the rules and spirit of fair play, contradicted FIFA, UEFA and SFA mission statements and acted in contravention to the spirit of the rules of fair play outlined in FIFA, UEFA and SFA Rules.

“The specific complaints are:

“1. Unprecedented transfer of membership and granting of license to operate to an unqualified new club, facilitating queue jumping into the lower professional set-up at the expense of existing qualified clubs who had applied through the recognised process.

“2. Secret cross governance agreements to facilitate point 1, above which took place during the preparation and contrary to the ethos of the SFA’s own published mission statement.

“3. Participation of a new club in an SFA affiliated domestic club competition without proper registration compliance.

“4. Participation of the SFA in an inquiry on improper player registration, an inquiry the SFA declined to initiate on the grounds that; the SFA required to be neutral, maintaining appellate authority status, then not only compromising that neutrality by participation but providing an interpretation on player eligibility that UEFA and indeed FIFA should examine. ”

The paper continues;

” A group of investors insist the Ibrox outfit received special treatment from Scotland’s football chiefs after Craig Whyte tipped the club over a financial cliff in February 2012, leading to the liquidation of the oldco. ”

And in that usage of the word ” Oldco ” is the concrete proof that the establishment, the media and the SFA want the whole thing to go away, and the new club, which, of course will be treated like the old club, can carry on without fear of punishment.

The article is penned by the wholly unbiased and consistently well informed journalist of the year Keith Jackson, now thought to be a leading light on all things pertaining to Scottish football by, er, Keith Jackson.

With no mention of Motherwell born billionaires, Jackson adds fuel to the social unrest myth first propogated by the SFA when First Rangers went into liquidation. ( A word he carefully applies only to the Oldco, not the club, which is not surprising, since he isn’t a financial journalist and doesn’t understand the full concept of what happened to First Rangers. Mainly because it doesn’t suit his agenda to even try to find out. )

Jackson hints ;

” It’s understood the Scottish champions are also acutely aware of how official action would heighten tensions between fans of the two clubs. ”

Again, that wholly unconvincing  ” Its understood ” as a lead in to a dark threat about possible trouble and tension between the two sets of fans.

Hey-thats a new thing. You mean there could be no more scenes like this one ?

Anyway, Jackson concludes, presumably hoping we all take the hint and help him to lift the carpet he seems intent on sweeping the matter under;

” But Celtic’s directors insist Rangers were dealt with fairly and have told shareholders: “The board considers the resolution to be unnecessary and recommends that you vote against it.”

That kind of thing might work with Sevco and its followers,but we are made of sterner stuff.

The article is little more than a plug against the resolution, and knowing Celtic supporters awareness of what goes on in media circles, the article may well have done the resolution a lot of good, as supporters will begin to question just why Peter Lawwell feels that the death of First Rangers and subsequent events were dealt with correctly-without fear or favour-I believe the popular phrase was at the time.

And Lawwell needs to come out and say publicly what his stance is on the matter. And he needs to do it soon. That way, if he is thinking what the article implies he is thinking, then we can get his resignation over with quickly and get someone else in during the AGM, which will save holding two meetings.

By comparison, the Scotsman has this online;

A VOTE is to be held at Celtic’s forthcoming annual general meeting (AGM) calling for the SFA to be reported to UEFA over their treatment of Rangers.

The motion, brought by a number of shareholders, calls for the club to censure the governing body for what they deem to be favourable treatment given to Rangers after their 2012 meltdown.

The motion reads: “We consider the SFA governance has displayed a disregard for the rules and spirit of fair play, contradicted FIFA, UEFA and SFA mission statements and acted in contravention to the spirit of the rules of fair play outlined in FIFA, UEFA and SFA Rules.”

The Celtic board have written to shareholders ahead of the AGM, dubbing the motion “unnecessary” and urging them to reject it.

Celtic will hold their annual general meeting on 15 November. ”

Just the facts. Another word they seem to have a problem with at the Record.

Over to you, Peter. I think you need to be putting peoples minds at rest.

Under no circumstances can Rangers 1872-2012 be allowed to escape punishment for what they did. The sporting world must be made fully aware of everything that happened at that club which caused it to implode. Their supporters, their shareholders, their debenture holders, need to know. and the rest of us need assurance that it could not be allowed to happen to our clubs.

Scottish football needs a spring clean where the junk is flung out, not left to accumulate where no-one can see it.

Its still international week as far as the on field action goes, Scotland face Croatia, and theres probably some other games on as well.

Some of which will feature those Celtic players who haven’t already been injured , although they are getting fewer in number by the day.

Right back Mikael Lustig is having his hip assessed by Swedish medical staff after it ” locked ” in the game against Austria , and he was substituted. He said;

“Right now, if I’m going to be totally honest, it feels no good.

“It feels as though my hip locked up considerably but I must now wait until I know more.”

With youngster Darnell Fisher also injured, it looks like Celtic will have to register Danny McGrain for the Ajax match, and with Scott Brown out, there is little room for error  if Lennon decides to shift Ambrose to right back, and Mulgrew to centre half.

Of course, there is the Hibernian game before that, and another round of international games, so theres plenty of time for Beram Kayal and James Forrest to pick up their next injuries…

We’ve touched on this in the diary, and in the comments,  before, because  there is currently an unacceptably high rate of injury amongst players, and someone needs to have a look and see whats causing it.

For those of you interested in the history, the official website summarises another new book released in time for Christmas, this one is the story of Malky MacDonald, a player who helped win the Empire Exhibition trophy, way back when football was played on grainy black and white pitches.

Forgotten Star/Rionnag Chaillte, the story of Malcolm MacDonald, by Alex O´Henley is out now and available in Celtic retail stores.

Another intentional change of font there. Whatever a font is.

Over at Ibrox, Dave King , another one of those tipped to save the new club from the unwelcome record of the shortest life span of any club in Scottish football history, has made his case to take over in the war torn blue room;

“My settlement with the authorities in South Africa provides me with a unique status of credibility.

“I don’t know anyone else on the planet who has the level of clearance that I now have in terms of court-approved rulings.”

He added: “I have made all my disclosures to AIM and they can have no basis for anything other than unequivocal support.”

Although the last line of the Herald article its taken from hints that it may not be enough…

City sources are said to have advised there “is absolutely not a hope” Aim would accept Mr King as a director.

More delusion down Edmiston Drive ? Lets hope so. With the nights already drawing in there is a renewed need for mirth and laughter.

The lime green shirt yesterday evokes memories of winning the league at Love Street when all seemed lost… with a fantastic display of playing football the Celtic Way, and as Andy Bhoy pointed out, a similar performance against Sporting Lisbon should also be up there in legend…

Did Celtic remain unbeaten wearing that top ? I’ve always been led to believe that that is indeed the case, but I don’t want to check. some things should be left as they are…

I remember each game being at least a five goal win and the players re-inventing the concept of total football….

Today, heres something else with a story behind it. what is it ?

Finally, an appeal, if I may.

Miranda Hart, the popular comedienne , has lost her laptop. she believes it has been stolen and has offered a reward for its return, on account of it containing her “precious creative ideas ” .

Can we all chip in a quid and give it to the guy who nicked it, and hopefully persuade him to fling it into the fecking sea ?

It’s the Empire Exhibition Trophy from 1938, a tournament played between teams from all over the UK. I think Celtic beat Everton in the final. They then went on to repeat their success in the Coronation Cup in 1953,against the(then)mighty Hibs another similar tournament to celebrate the Queen’s succession. Two tournaments, two wins for the Celts. That’s probably why they stopped having them!

It’s the public toilets at Port Bannatyne that Jimmy Johnstone tried to row to, but was caught short.
The tower has subsequently been removed to comply with a European Directive on the height of towers and sold to Azerbaijan.

Is there some kind of dark ‘secret’ that the SFA or Sevco hold on some possible kind of behind the scenes shenanigans at Celtic. I know it’s total conjecture and speculation but it’s the only reason I can think of Lawell & Co being so against Celtic fans bidding for nothing more than fair treatment and justice. What is going on exactly.

Totally agree with the Miranda Hart thing too. As well as flinging her laptop in the sea could we also lob her in too? Let her do silly slapstick falls at the bottom of the sea. Her comedy makes Mr Bean look like Lenny Bruce.

Frankie. I’m paranoid and proud of it. I also agree 100% with the sentiments of the resolution that the SFA “displayed a disregard for the rules and spirit of fair play” etc etc etc. However, maybe I’m too old & too cynical, but I think it’s naive to believe that having such a statement publically associated with Celtic will make even the tiniest, minutest impact in getting fair treatment and justice on this issue.

I’m as much in favour of truth & justice as the next man, but even if there IS a “dark secret” out there,I can’t help but ask what’s in the best interests of Celtic, and keep coming back to the same thing. – Is it in Celtic’s interest to provide ammunition which feeds the prevailing “everybody hates us” paranoia of the blue hordes & their minions in the press? I dont think so, but that’s exactly how it will be viewed by the outside world. Conspiracy aside, I suspect that also sums up the boards view.

Of course we need to keep fighting for fair treatment and justice, but we’ll only get that if the whole of Scottish football (excluding you know who) is united on the issue, and the plea for justice comes from a broad spectrum wearing a coat of many colours, but not whilst wearing a Celtic scarf.

I’m a pragmatist on the issue of justice (as Nelson Mandela was!). IF you truly believe the resolution will make any difference, by all means go ahead and vote for it, but I cant help but think it’ll turn out to be no more than a token, empty gesture, which, other than making us feel better, will have zero concrete impact other than stirring up those already convinced we’re driven by bias & bitterness.

CJB,

I know you are paranoid and I know that you know that I know you are paranoid.

I know that they may be branded as board apologists by many on here and other Celtic sites but Paul67 of CQN gives an excellent summation of events and Celtic’s stance on the matter in his latest article.

The only thing I cannot comprehend is the fact that we seem to be at a stage where we simply have to accept that there was wrongdoing afoot (to put it extremely mildly!) but that that there is FECK ALL we can do about it! “Business as usual. Nothing to see here. Move on Timmy (and the rest).” This seems to be the outcome that the fans putting together this draft are having trouble accepting. And who can blame them?

Ah yes. This is one of these old erections that Britain used to be famous for.

Not many left now although Supper Sally is undoubtedly a Grade 1 steamer.

Makes you proud to be British!

Tait’s Tower from the empire exhibition, why they would erect such a tower to commemorate a biscuit I don’t know.

Don’t know what all the fuss is about regarding old huns/new huns. We are living in Scotland and all us Tims should know our place in the scheme of things and recognise that our lords and masters can do what they like. I think we all knew everything would be swept under the carpet and it’s business as usual.

We should never ever let the fact that Sevco 5088 are old Co, always will be, cloud the fact that the SFA knew and did hee haw about, all the Cheating, Stealing, Slipping of sealed envelopes and the like,and should be brought down to it’s knees.. If the shoe had been on the other foot, you can bet your mortgage everything would have been done to eradicate us. HAIL HAIL.

I think people assume that UEFA and FIFA are whiter than white organisations that will take notice of this.
I think you will find that they make the SFA seem like Mother Theresa in comparison. (apologies for mentioning the SFA and Mother Theresa in the same sentence).

Is the answer to the quiz Mother Theresa (aka Sweet Fanny Of Albania) and the trophy in question The Coronation Of Our New Dark Lord Dave King In The Black Hole Of Calcutta Church Of The Unwashed in Govan? – I bet you never expected to see the words fanny and Mother Therese in the same sentence?.
