Celtic Diary Saturday August 15: World Turning

With 2020 almost certain to be remembered as , on the whole, a pretty bad year, analysts are loking for that sign, that one event, that could give us all hope.

Something to cling to after a six months of a pandemic, economic collapse, the effects of climate change-look at California just now and the flash floods closer to home,  and finally kids moaning that they would have got an A , honest dad.

We needed hope, we needed something to happen that would allow us to think,

Do you know what, things might actually be alright

Well, it’s happened….

Steven Fletcher: Stoke City sign Scotland striker after Sheffield Wednesday exit

Despite the best efforts of pundit Tam MacManus, formerly of Hibernian and a friend of the forward, Celtic have resisted the urge to put ten in a row even more at risk than the coronavirus could ever dream of, and ” messed him about ” , which has forced him to move to the midlands mecca of football instead.

And There Was Much Rejoicing GIFs - Get the best GIF on GIPHY

Although I do remember mentioning this would happen on a recent podcast . Celtic didn;t mess him about, on the contrary the player knew exactly where he stood with the club, and as Celtic don’t do two years for players of a certain vintage-keepers excepted – it was never going to happen.

Though his name being linked with Celtic assured him of offers from lesser clubs….which was sort of the point of his friends intervention. In fact, Celtic were never interested in him, it was Fletcher who was interested in Celtic.

Instead, Celtic will have to make do with Oddsone Edoaurd, Patrick Klimali and now Albien Ajeti as a pool of forwards that might yet even be strengthened further if Leigh Griffiths can get the nut screwed on.

Albien Ajeti dazzled in the Swiss league, and moved to West Ham for £8m …where his manager became Davie Moyes, who is not noted for anything in the game apart from a few years at Everton who were happy enough with mediocrity.

The general consensus among West Ham fans is that he wasn;t given a chance to impress, and was forced to play to a system that didn’t suit him when he did.

Thats quite easy to find out if you ask around, and one has to wonder why the Scottish media didn;t do the same, and instead rolled-and thats the right word-out Charlie Adam to offer quite possibly the most ill informed view made by anyone even n the Scottish sports media, which is in itself quite an achievement.

“Have I seen enough of him? I’ve heard through the grapevine that he’s not at the level that everybody thinks he is.

So, er, no, then. He hasn’t seen anything of him but one of his mates, who probably hasn’t seen him either, or one would assume the media might have asked him, says he’s not as good as others who haven’t seen him think he is.

Sooner or later they might ask someone who has seen him, Mo Elyannoussi would have been an obvious choice, as they played together at Basel, but with Celtic players not allowed to talk to the media just yet, we’ll have to wait for his views.

This weekend sees yet another Celtic -and Aberdeens- game called off to allow their main rivals to try to build up a head of steam and get far enough in front in case the league is called off.

The SPFL have announced that both clubs are to be charged with whatever they can think of between now and the hearingin a blatant display of deflection from the fact that other clubs have been at it as well.

The internet is brimming with pictures of other clubs players and management disregarding the plague rules but no further charges are being made.

Thats largely because if they are , football will be stopped, and hence the media won’t publish them, or even ask questions about them, as it resumes its craven cowardice position on the hope that yet another scandal within the game will go away if they pretend it didn’t happen.

And we wonder why we have a league with no sponsor and a game without outside investment.

Those in charge are a perfect example of people getting jobs beyond their qualifications, a line the Westminster Education minister used to explain to poor kids down south that he was really doing them a favour by marking them down instead of fairly , whlst preserving the standards of the elite who have done so much for the country in recent months.

If Fletcher hadn’t signed for Stoke I’d be in a bit of a bad mood this morning, so we;d better raise the tone of the Diary again….

There looks like there’ll be a new centre half here next week, and we’ve got the pictures of yer man Duffy at Celtic Park…

Image

He’s not quite the baby eating brawler that we need, but he can carry a tune, which will be needed in the closing stages of the season.

(Are you sure this is him? -Ed )

( As sure as I am about anything else on this page -ralph )

If Bertie Auld can get the players to sing the Celtic song ahead of a momentous occasion, then maybe we’ve found someone to lead the lads in a chorus of the Helicopter Song when that tenth title is finally secured.

Duffy is apparently on his way, all done and dusted, but at the moment it’s difficult to say whether its a loan, with or without an option to buy, or a straightforward purchase.

There is no news about a possible move for Stoke city winger James MacLean, though you never know…

For those of you who wondered whether or not that the Scottish sports media could ever attain the maturity of adult hood, and not just be a home for those who perhaps need a little help with day to day basic functions, such as thinking, for example, there was confirmation today that is is indeed full of fucking idiots.

With Frank MacAvennie winning the Etims Knob of the Week award, it appears there was a bit of the green eyed monster in, er the blue nosed monster muncher over at the Sun, who came out with an article that showed he really shouldn’t be allowed to write articles….

CELTIC were happy to be reinstated into the Champions League when Legia Warsaw fielded an ineligible player against them a few years ago.

If it was good enough for them to be awarded the victory, it’s now good enough for Kilmarnock

Kris Boyd completely missing the point, as of course, Bolingoli was eligible to play, and maybe opening up a can of worms about ineligible players, who dominated the payroll of one Scottish club whilst they were competing both at home and in Europe.

Boli Bolingoli shouldn’t have been anywhere near Rugby Park last weekend.

The moment he stepped onto that pitch as a late substitute was the moment Celtic were breaking the rules.

He doesn’t say which rules, becaue of course, they weren’t.

The article contains pictures of Bolingoli, and the Aberdeen players who went out for a beer or two after the game against “rangers ” on the opening weekend.

But, for me, that’s what Celtic should be facing right now. And I’d be saying the same if it was Rangers.

I’m quite sure that he will have seen the pictures that show it was “rangers “…if not, he should look a little harder.

Of course, there was no mention of “rangers ” breaching testing rules ahead of a friendly.

It’s just a matter of time before the shit hits the shits…..

Yesterday, we had this….

Before any future punishments for Celtic and Aberdeen, will our club’s officials please bring up Sevco’s behaviour before their pre-season friendly match which went ahead, without tests results being known? They should not get away with it as they have got away with so much over the years. Covid doesn’t care if the match was a friendly or no. There has been no mention of this match in the MSM. I also reckon a team with Morelos, McGregor, Kent and Jack in its ranks must surely have a few skeletons in its Covid-19 cupboard? It would be right that those arguing for points reductions might regret it when the same might apply to them in the days to come.

Worth the watching….

As the JRG personel are out their depth, let alone on covid related matters, he’ ll have quite a big say in sanctions .
Why not sanction the car sharers,( at a time it was prohibited ,)
the 3 that went to the pub, (bursting their elite sports bubble),
and the 9 that played prior to test results being known.
Bolingoli can get tae…..

We’re all going on a Bolingoliday
No more league games for a week or two
Huns are laughing at our Bolingoliday
No chance of catching them or Hibs too
For a week or two.

To see him in the hoops is frightening
When he is on the pitch I’m blue
I hear he cost three million
Please tell me that’s not true.

Everybody needs a Boli holiday
He’s an eejit who ain’t got a clue
So let’s send him on another holiday
A one way ticket to Timbuktu
Or the nearest b’roo.

I assume you mean Jason Leitch, who is the National Clinical Director not the Chief Medical Officer but don’t ask me the difference, just like I can’t tell the difference between a virologist and an epidemiologist.

I don’t know who the CMO is but the last one resigned after repeated lockdown breaches despite frantic efforts by the Scot Gov, who did not excoriate her unlike Boli and the 8 Dons (not appearing near you any time soon). This doesn’t excuse Boli and the others but equally hypocrisy should be called out.

If Leitch was a Hun then it might be worth watching but a Paisley Buddy, nah.

He has a straightforward style of delivery, which people relate to but has made some dodgy pronouncements eg “hug a granny” when others were stringently advocating social distance, “you can’t get it twice”, which hasn’t been established.

Specifically, related to football, he signed off on the lack of punishment for a game when the Huns had 9 players without clearance due to a pathetic “lack of understanding” excuse.

This was a chance to set a definitive precedence but was bottled probably because all the tests subsequently returned negative but that’s not how you should be dealing with it ie you deal with it before it becomes a problem.

Motherwell and Hibs were also investigated for late testing but crucially and correctly from a health standpoint they postponed games until results were known, unlike the Huns.

Similarly, the hammering of the 8 Dons, seems to be largely because of what subsequently happened in Aberdeen not simply because they went to the pub, as there seems to be plenty of anecdotal evidence of others, if not incontrovertible proof, doing the same because they’ve not, so far, been linked to outbreaks. This is a wrongheaded approach that can only lead to further problems.

I think Celtic will suck up any punishment for Boli and will accept any censure or fine for the club but hopefully any points deduction will be vigorously resisted. This might jeopardise the season, if we go nuclear on precedence and evidence against others, but that’s what a points deduction does anyway.

Talking politics, I’m still gobsmacked that the tory, labour and libdem parties have not tabled a no confidence vote on the education minister’s in England and Wales, I thought “better together” meant equal standards across the board!!

Reply to  highseastim

Tory MPs attacking a Tory Government would be like SNP MSPs attacking the SNP Government and I don’t believe that happened, so not sure what your point is there.

Labour, obviously with others, successfully forced the Scottish Government to correct the mistakes here and, again, I’m not sure what your point is with this.

Labour will be trying to do exactly the same across the UK but given the Tories substantial majority then a No Confidence motion would be pretty futile and play into their hands , “government win substantial backing for their education policies” etc.

Who’s Broonie’s replacement? Calmac is a good player but he’s finessed, not in your face. As a club we always need a McNeill, Aitken, Lennon, Broonie figure. A character that will make Refs think twice about their future after dinner bowling club speech fees. Even harder to find when our Captain can’t just be a good player, they need to get it and that, for me, means Irish or Scottish. Also you want years out of them and that rules out the selling on PL model. 10 will be Broonie’s deserved swansong. What about the 11+ Captain? He needs brought in now.

“Not dead, just sleeping.”
From a tombstone? (from Puckoon perhaps?) Or Peter T Lawwell’s optimistic demise? I’m not sure.
Perhaps it’s me, perhaps food for thought. For idiots. It’s OBVIOUS and must be (s)quashed.
To date, there is but ONE “club” (I’ll get to that later) played maximum games,
whom has NO bookings/reds. Amazingly it’s Sevco Hun 2.
STOP THE TEN 10! Is in full, frontal attack. Who paid for Bollingoli’s “holiday”?
Dons and Celtic punished but no such sanction for a “company” playing 8/9 players whom were uncertificated, to be free of Covid. But that’s okay? NAW. The response will be evident later.
Current point is this: the Broadfoots, Boyds and similar trash will seek out any advantage for the new ‘club’ they love, as they did the dead club. But they’re too thick to get away with it.
If Peter T Lawwell doesn’t stand up, for once, and protect our club (instead of himself), I’ll just say this: I will take EVERY avenue, EVERY opportunity, EVERY search to reduce yourself publicly for what you are (and if your family back you then them too), to report on your cheating, scheming and betrayal of Celtic FC fans worldwide. Gloves firmly off.
For clarification: The new huns, Sevco, is not and has never been a football club; it’s the remnants of a dead club (in Liquidation) whom were given passage into the bottom tier of Scottish professional football. IT, Sevco, as it was called on 29th July 2012 vs Brechin was the rtesult of CHEATING. CHEATING by the “top shite” of Scottish football; for the avoidance of any doubt, that was everyone involved in the 6-way-Agreement, that included the ‘nod’ of Peter Thomas Lawell.
GET HIM TAE FUCK AND TAKE HIS NEW CONSTRUCT WITH HIM, to hell if such was reality.
I’m only mildly pissed off right now, there’s a lot more to come.
PS ‘Port’, you recently backed Lawwell (against me) for reasons that do not and cannot exist, except in Ozzie Wonderland. If ever you made no sense, it was then! 🙂
HH
FC not PLC.
PS Give Lawwell what he deserves. I recommend a living statue; plaster the bastard.

This will not be happily received on here, as to challenge faith is to challenge the person of THAT faith. Amen.
The ‘fact’ that, that there are more ‘religions’ and off-shoots of such ‘religions’ begs many questions that most of you wont confront and logically answer.
One god, (christianity) to 1 think 5 in hindu…….are they available in “pound-shops”? I would suggest that they should be.
I do NOT attempt to change views, merely to offer to confront them.
I never GOT religion, as by 8 years old I saw through it.
I couldn’t articulate, nor ‘upset’ my Mum, so I pretended to be a catholic.
But Truth won out as I told my dear mother, “that shit’s not for me…….” or words to that eff3ct.

Oh, trust me, I saw through Catholicism (and hence ALL religion) when I was fucking eight (8) years old in Glasgow.
Talk to me of the brave Irish lads, from 1916 and before,
That stood up to ‘the hun’ of Brittannia’s birth,
And died in multiple score. (Refer The Foggy Dew)
Well those are The Bhoys, who should be ‘canonised’,
Should be remembered in the best of folk-lore
But catholicism’s worse, evidently it’s a whore,
I just wonder which one came 1st,
The Catholic or the Capitalist. (Egalite?)

OF NO CONSEQUENCE, I’ve NO affilliation with either……
sleep tight, don’t let the ‘nutters’ bite.

Officially he’s still on loan at Forest Green Rovers but his one year loan period is due to expire (at least in theory) next month. Some more time might be added due to COVID but if that’s not the case, either his loan will be extended or he’ll be on his way back to Celtic. He started well with them but then his form appears to have dipped.

He’s back in our reserves, as the season loan has long ended (Forest Green played their last game in March).

He did seem to start well and, although the fans seem to have taken to him, he’s not been a CalMac at Notts County revelation that you would hope for to kick on and get first team action for us.

He didn’t feature in any of the pre-season games, when we were playing 2 teams per game, so I just can’t see he has a future with us.

So thems and us have both dropped 2 points. Thems have average points per game if 2.5 and we have 2. Just highlights that if league is called early at any point games played will hold sway over goal difference. And its a long time before we get to play our games in hand.
