Celtic Diary Sunday August 26: Good News Is No News

Thats the way editors think , not only in the Scottish media , but worldwide.

In Scotland, however, its a little more refined in that they apply the maxim only to Celtic.

The narrative seems to be that everyone at Celtic doesn’t want to be there, and those who aren’t there don’t want to come.

We’ve had our backs against the wall before, and we’ve seen off all sorts of challenges.

Today, we must make a statement, on the pitch, that we intend to see this one off as well.

The hoops host Hamilton Academical-there’s just the one of them  in the correct use of their name-so it shouldn’t be too tricky.

Its the start of a three game run at Celtic Park that gives the manager and the players a chance to swat away criticism, and put down a marker for the season.

Anything else and it will be cracked crests and a whip round to hire a minibus for the board, the manager and several players.

We shouldn’t be in this position, but we are, and its the mark of champions as to how its dealt with.

Incredibly, due to injuries even at this early stage of the season, Celtic are missing seven players, at least according to Sky Sports…

Sky Sports claim that the Bhoys only have one fit centre-half for the clash against Accies, with Kristoffer Ajer set to play.

With Dedryck Boyata’s saga still ongoing, injuries to Jozo Simunovic, Jack Hendry and Marvin Compper have left Celtic very short at the back.

The report also confirms that Lewis Morgan, Nir Bitton and Odsonne Edouard are out of the game in Glasgow.

However, we still have some fairly decent lads to choose from, and as long as they turn up, Celtic should send a message to everyone watching that reports of our demise have been exaggerated.

Three at the back,  two wing backs, three in the middle and two up front.

Go for it.

In the meantime, the media are proclaiming that Olivier Ntcham is determined to quit before the window closes.

Let him go if thats true.

Boyata ?

Bye bye.

And anyone else who has itchy feet ?

Theres the door, allow me to slam it off the back of your head as you leave.

Older readers will remeber the fabled trio of Pierre van Hooijdonk, Paolo di Canio and Jorge Cadete. Great players, but a collective pain in the arse.

A similar situation may be brewing just now, and we’ve a week to sort it out either way.

Then, as now, we’d like to keep the “rebels “, but not at the detriment of the squads mentality.

Either they are in, and they buck up, or they are out, and they buck off.

Image result for and breathe gif

Oh, and shouldn’t this bring a charge of disrepute ?

Kris Boyd of Kilmarnock talking publicly about a Celtic player ?

This takes me back to a fans forum I attended a couple of years ago around the time Neil McCann, then assistant manager at Dunfermline, was haranguing Celtic whilst he was a Sky pundit.

I asked Peter Lawwell if this was not tantamount to bringing the game into disrepute. Lawwell said he would look into it.

Presumably he did,  with all the enthusiasm he looks at Brendans “Get me these players ” list

Boyd cannot be allowed to do this without facing the consequences. He should be charged.

And if Celtic are not sticking up for themselves off the pitch, how can we expect them to look after themselves on it ?

Right now, the club seems to be lurching from one crisis to another, and a wee bit of leadership wouldn’t go amiss.

In fact, there’s something even more serious that has not been widely reported that is indicative of the piss poor way the club is being run at the moment..

 Aug 25

If your name happens to be “clint “, do not have it put on the back of your new top… as I think we’ve found the fellow who did the tops previous job…
Image result for clint on a cake
Of course, its all good news for the team at the other side of the city, who Celtic will face on league duty next week for the third successive season, which it has to be said is a massive achievement for a new club.
The youngest club in Scotland have been a breath of fresh air to the top flight since their debut at this level, creating media interest and helping the police justify extra overtime when they most needed it due to government pay restraints.
They’re coming to take our crown-they have a thing about crowns- and they’re changing the face of Scottish football with their devil may care rebellious attitude.
However, there’s a feeling that the whole thing has been stage managed, as they now appear to be regurgitating old stories to keep the fires of revolution burning..
October 2016
August 2018;
To be fair to Gerrard, he’s half right.
Though it does seem like he’s getting his excuses in early… by talking about Celtic to show he isn’t thinking about Celtic..

“I haven’t thought about the Old Firm,”  “I can honestly say to you, I am not obsessed about Celtic. I don’t know how many times I need to say it. I am obsessed with being successful as the Rangers manager. I could lose every Old Firm game I go into and still win the league. So why should I be obsessed with Celtic?”

“Being candid and honest about it, it’s the game up here in this league,”

“All the media and all the public magnify it, whether you win or lose. If you win, you are the best in the world. If you lose, you are the worst in the world. I understand that. I get it. I signed up for it, I am in.

That sounds like someone is running scared to me, and it sounds like he is dreading the game.

Even he knows that sooner or later, Celtic will click again, and someone is going to suffer. Should the world not be placed back on its axis with two convincing wins against Hamilton and Suduva, he knows that the atmosphere in among 60,000 Celtic fans will be too much for his untested team, and that they could face a backlash.

Alternatively, should the hoops find their shooting boots before the game, he’ll be facing a Celtic side far superior to his own who know they are far superior to his own.

Image result for that makes me smile

A wee message for them…

Oh, and don’t forget….

THERE is a collection pre-match from midday today, and Celtic FC Foundation, Glasgow North East Foodbank and The Wayside Club would like to invite all supporters who are attending the match to bring a donation which will help address issues of poverty, hunger and homelessness in our society.

The legacy of Brother Walfrid was a football club fundamentally committed to his ideals of supporting those in need locally, nationally and far beyond national borders. These ideals continue to be supported on a daily basis through the work of the Club’s official charitable arm, Celtic FC Foundation.

From midday, there will be three drop-off stations: The Clover (main collection point on the Celtic Way) and the West and East entrance areas along Janefield Street*.

On consultation with our partner and this collections’ beneficiary, vital items required include:

Help out how you can. It will be appreciated.. there’s a lot of good people putting in a lot of good work, and they need a bit of help to help those , who through no fault of their own, could use a leg up.

There was no diary yesterday, so we go back to Friday for this picture..

What we are more likely going to see is Hamilton put 4 defenders across the 6 yard box, with 5 midfielders in front of that. We’ll watch our wide players cutt in all match and run into bodies every shot will be charged down for the first 68 or so minutes. Our attacking players on the orders of the coaching staff will continue this futile onslaught until the first substitute comes which will cause just enough confusion within our own team that someone will go to the byline and square the ball for the first goal. You now like Stuart Armstrong used to do with either foot even though he was playing through the middle. If we were lucky this can be avoided if Ntcham actually scores one of his wonder goals rather than scoring an extra point for the Seattle Seahawks. I hope I’m wrong, but I’ve a sneaky suspicion…

I’ve noticed some weak vocabulary coming out of Celtic Park these past few months. Especially my most hated word ‘try’. No word displays an intent to fail more than the word try. I sent an email to JP who has responded before, but chose not to respond on this occasion (can’t say I blame him) his job must be tough right about now and I may have sounded like a rambling nut job. I’ve the unraveling off many teams in my time (not just sports teams) and this loosers vocabulary tears its head early on. We will stop the use of the words ‘try’ and ‘have to’ I know not how, but it must happen and happen fast.

Hoping for a better performance today to set us up for Thursday’s tie. I hope Hendry is going to become the boo boys whipping boy, as a young player and new to the club he should be learining his trade not carrying more experienced colleagues or covering for our recruitment failure. The media really show themselves up, “ Rangers” hooligans are Scottish hooligans and Celtic are falling apart. Rodgers will sort the current problem out and we will still be in Europe at the end of this week unlike my other Scottish team. Surprised that Stuart Armstrong is struggling to get a game at Southampton, as one of our better players prior to last seasons injury I thought he would have no problem, says a lot about where our league figures. Mind you Beram Keyal is still playing for Brighton in the Premiership.

The baby wipes, to wash the away loos after next Sunday.

The deodorant, to get rid of the smell after next Sunday.

The hand sanitiser, To wipe down the turnstiles and the doors all at the away end next Sunday.
The new boxers, socks and the toilet bags that’s for their manager, I have a feeling that he might need them after next Sunday.

Why we don’t just tell them to fuck off completely…. They will not be missed and neither will their smell….

We don’t have troubles to seek at the moment . Without wishing to add to that, analysis of Brown’s performances suggest it’s not just the defence needing more effective squad management.

Happy clappers likely to be offended.

I agree with Ralph in terms of putting in a solid performance and racking up a few goals, not forgetting trying to have a clean sheet. I suspect HA will play 10 at the back as per.

For next week

Listening to the MWell game and it sounds like William plays everything through their fullbacks, we need to exploit this. At the back, they don’t handle two up too well either. I’m not a football manager but listening to the game that’s evident.

Oh, Lafferty is a cheating cunt who’ll go down at any given time.

No respect for the Green Brigade today. The BBC, Daily Record and huns will love it. To do that to a Celtic player just before kick off showed no class no intelligence. If the players can live with Boysta and Rodgers can do be it. He is hardly the first to claim he is injured and manager disagrees, the opposite also applies. Fortunately the Celtic support showed class as ever, here is hoping for a better second half.So far as so many times this season it is the failure to score goals that is costing us.

Oo ya cuntye, how the fuck did McGowan escape with only a yellow for a challenge like that? It was similar to Jozo’s at the midden, only a bit worse.

Overall it wasn’t a bad game, we were just found wanting in the final third. Fair play to Hamilton, they did their damnedest to frustrate us with a packed defence and, for the most part, they succeeded. We did manage to carve out a few clear-cut chances which, unfortunately, went abegging. The poor finishing and misunderstandings up front looked more like early season rustiness than anything else so I think once this mechanism gets more into the groove with a bit of lubrication, the goals should start to flow.

It’s a funny old game indeed Noel. The big man should have even netted twice. Still, that goal will put a few more bob onto his transfer fee 🙂

Those 3 points mean that we leapfrog the tribute act and can face the next hurdle with a bit more optimism.

It’s no quite the same now is it? If I pull a Sicky then my work is there when I get back. When Boyata pulls a Sicky someone is thrown in at the deep end, Celtic doesn’t qualify for the Champions League and much of the support begins vilifying him.

Alright Steve, the quality was lacking again up front, that’s for sure. However, I don’t believe such good players as we have in the forward positions all become poor in such a short space of time. We win the next two convincingly, get the transfer window out the way and I think everything should start to slot into place. By all accounts, the huns’ defence was shocking today.

Thoughts from behind the sofa.

All opposing teams are set up the same way, to frustrate and defend in depth. Time delays, hefty tackles, stay in the same formation and be disciplined. Pure football, playing on the ground, with side to side passes may wear down the opposition but it is really frustrating to watch. The most important objective for the Tic. was to win and be solid at the back and try not to concede… part one of three.. mission accomplished. It seems like Boyata might be here until January when the English window opens, but that is just a guess, why would he play? unless to keep game fit or some kind of pay back to Brendan. The players showing solidarity with him also suggests that he will continue to play for the team.
Le Havre’s centre-back Harold Moukoudi has been mentioned as his possible replacement, at 6ft.3in. he is a big powerful looking player with a great reputation, if we are successful in bringing him to Celtic, I would very much like that, patience grasshoppers.
