Celtic Diary Wednesday April 27: Serious Stuff, And A Game At Wembley.

Quite a few of you have interacted with Celtic via e-mail and telephone regarding the Resolution 12 issue. Thats not entirely unexpected, as the Celtic support are a little different from, say, the support of at least one other club.

We fight battles before they are lost. We just need to make sure we fight the right people. And we fight them together.

The club issued a standard reply to anyone who emailed them over the subject.

You’ve probably all seen it by now, and it goes like this;

Thank you for your email, as a rule the Club has a policy not to comment on internet speculation, however this is a sustained campaign against the Club, which has no foundation.  The Club has for some time been addressing the issues raised by Resolution 12 and supporters can be assured it will continue to do so in the best interests of the Club.

“A sustained campaign against the club which has no foundation ”

Now, is he referring to the accusations of inaction, and the desire for the club to do something about the events surrounding the collusion ( well documented ) between the authorities and a club on the brink of liquidation ?

In which case, they ( I’m not going to personalise this note, as it is clearly from a template ) are  saying that the club are on the case, so to speak.

Its just that we, the supporters as a whole,  haven’t seen any evidence of this.

If , however, they are on the case, why have they not made it public ?

The secrecy around the actions of the SFA and SPFL is part of the problem, and when the club adopts a similar tactic, naturally , suspicions will be aroused.

All most of us want to do, as with any scandal, is to keep it in the public eye,  which should lead to those involved being forced into explanations for their actions, and if they have been the wrong actions, either legally or morally, they must be held accountable.

I’m also a little concerned about the wording of the last line.

supporters can be assured it will continue to do so in the best interests of the Club.

I have absolutely no faith in the idea that when they say club, they mean supporters, or, which is equally important, in the interest of the game as a whole.

They seem to be missing the point.

Its all about fairness, integrity and transparency.

And , of course, accountability.

There are several other emails, and records of telephone conversations, including a response to Whoriskeys comments in yesterdays Diary replies, which make for interesting reading.

What we now have are a number of conflicting views, and it would be unfair of me to take everything as it is written.

So, I’ll speak to all parties first, and try to draw my own conclusions.

You see, the last thing I want is to see the support polarised, because I get the feeling that the real enemy will be hoping that is exactly what happens.

Its what people in authority do when they’re making an arse of something, and have been found out. They deflect and divide.

The SFA haven’t had to deflect as yet, and they haven’t had to try to divide us.

So lets make sure we’re all clear on everything before we come out swinging.

Yesterday, on a serious note, a corrupt and inefficient police force was finally proven to be a corrupt and inefficient organisation, which would have come as a great relief to those affected by the terrible tragedy at Hillsborough, in Sheffield twenty seven years ago.

Instead of lessons being learned from those events, the cover up and culture of blame afterwards prevented many families from finding the truth, which became the priority , as opposed to dealing with those whose actions and decisions  had contributed to terrible events that day.

One might venture that the current law in Scotland, which treats football fans apart from society is an indirect consequence of what was the establishment led media campaign of the day, and perhaps its worth taking that into consideration when petitioning for the removal of the OBF act.

We’ve spoken about the really serious stuff today, and without taking anything away from the first part of the Diary, and trivialising them in any way, we’ll move on to the Completely Ludicrous bit…

American power broker wants to see Celtic v Rangers at

Wembley

The organiser of the International Champions Cup, Charlie Stillitano, is hatching plans to have Celtic take on Rangers – at Wembley stadium.

The New Jersey-based football tycoon believes there would be worldwide interest in a first-ever match meeting of the Glasgow rivals outside Scotland and insists the national stadium would be a sell-out.

The International Champions Cup, involving 17 of the world’s best teams, will take place this summer across the globe, focusing on matches in China Australia, the United States as well as Europe.

He obviously hasn’t seen the figures for the last game between the two, which were only around 500,000.

To put it into perpspective, channel 5’s recent offering about Henry VIII and his six wives drew 1,2m viewers, Can’t Pay ? We’ll Take it Away 640,000, while over on BBC1, the real event of the week, Countryfile, dwarfed everyone with just shy of  six and a half million watching.

Maybe they should put that on at Wembley.

But the bold Mr. Stillitano, and one suspects he hasn’t looked too closely into this, continues…

“Celtic v Rangers would fill out Wembley, 100 per cent. That would be wonderful.

“We had Manchester United v Liverpool as the final of this tournament in 2014. They didn’t want to play each other but they ended up meeting in the final in Miami and it was a great occasion.

“We have the Manchester City v Manchester United in China this year. If we can put on a Manchester derby in Beijing, we can put on a Glasgow derby. I think Wembley would be perfect for it.

I suppose we could play them on the moon, and offer to pay not only their travel expenses, but all the expenses of their supporters. I could start one of those crowdfunding things, if need be.

Just don’t tell them we’re not actually going to be in the next shuttle, and neither is the team…

As an added bonus, we could get virgin to include it in their spaceflight venture. Judging by their trains at the weekend, they wouldn’t even get anywhere near the moon, and would spend eternity in perpetual motion circling the sun…

On the subject of the new manager, yes, i know we weren’t, but doing these fluent links isn’t always easy, we have a quote from Martin O’Neill, regarding the specualtion about Roy Keane… (I use speculation quite loosely here, in fact, i haven’t even spelt it correctly )

“I can’t speak for him, and possibly can’t even speak for myself either All my concentration is on what’s ahead in the next couple of weeks. There’s always going to be a bit of speculation and probably because I played for Forest, and Roy had some interest from Celtic the last time around before the manager got the job,”

There’s a lot of nonsense surrounding the club at the moment, and one almost has to remind oneself that there’s a big game at the weekend.

Whilst this promises to be an interesting week off the field,  there are still matters on the field to take care of.

Celtic, battered and bedraggled on the pitch, need to pull themselves together and get a win at Tynecastle to secure the fifth title.

Now, when Ronny tries to motivate the players for this one, it should be fairly simple, where else would be a better place to win the league ?

It may give us further indication of which players hearts are with the club, and which aren’t.

Yesterdays caption, which according to Sue showed the restricted view seats at the upcoming Barcelona game, and as such deems here a worthy winner.

Today, here’s an interesting and somewhat provocative pic…

I’m afraid I don’t think this photo is of Susan B Anthony (and neither do others, see http://www.obitoftheday.com/post/35155203876/dear-tumblr-this-is-not-susan-b-anthony-this). She was an American suffragette, who would have been unlikely to have been beaten up by a British policeman for trying to vote in a British Election. Still, you never know where British police will go, as we remember from the miners’ strike. Wikipedia shows this image as being Ada Wright. nitpickingCSC.

See, if Celtic (and especially The Rangers for that matter) actually had players of note, by which I mean proper talent that was recognised out with Scotland. then such a game probably would be fairly attractive as a pre-season game.

However, given Celtic’s (and again, The Rangers) desperation to play in another football structure, you can guarantee both teams will bite the hand off to play in such a game.

Agreed, we’ve probably already passed the winning post, as the possibility of Aberdeen getting 10 points from 4 games is laughable.

Both them and Hearts are on poor runs and we should be swaggering to the title but it ain’t happening.

We’ll probably win by at least 10 points but I suspect celebrations will be muted to say the least.

Regarding Res12, this is a matter of concern for all Scottish Football Clubs and their supporters.

It is worrying that almost all of the other Clubs have made no comment on this issue nor have their main supporter groups.

As it is a matter of fairness ,integrity and transparency , I think there is a real danger that Celtic challenging the SFA (and their defunct friends) on our own, will get sidetracked in the Scottish Media as an act of bitterness against our deceased opponents.

Perhaps we could ask our Res12 team to try and form a broader group across many clubs supporters ( surely they feel the same as us). This would keep focus on the real issues.

MAYBE this is what our club is doing ‘ under cover’?

The time is right for the new Turnbull Hutten.

“You see, the last thing I want is to see the support polarised, because I get the feeling that the real enemy will be hoping that is exactly what happens.”
Ralph I fear that the support is fragmenting and polarising at this very moment due to lack of effective leadership and dialogue between the club directors and functionaries and those of us who love and follow the club. The Ronnie fiasco has been allowed to simmer away without any action. The fans are kept in the dark regarding our official position on Resolution 12 the LNS enquiry etc, we are being marginalised patronised or ignored. I read our captain dismissing the Lawwell in dressing room situation yesterday with the line “its his building he can go where he wants. Well you know what it isn’t his building he doesn’t own it. We all do every man and woman who queued up to buy shares all those years ago, who buy their season tickets or their match day briefs religiously and don’t get a million quid back every year. It is this attitude that stinks at Parkhead just now even more than a Ronnie team talk.
This explains why guys like Ewanbhoy Torrance and I wont be celebrating winning the league we will be grateful for avoiding the biggest embarrassment yet no more than that, it is time for a new broom.

MaryhillBhoy I agree with what you say m8.
In Dermots own words, he is only a custodian.
I will never not enjoy Celtic winning a title. The cheating that our club has faced, and still faces, mean that every time we win a league or a cup,we have done it through legitimate means.
To not cheer a title would be the biggest gift to give this fuckin establishment. So when we do cross the finish line,I will be there with the grandson belting it out, because this is what they don’t want. Yes it’s been poor, the poorest I’ve seen, but I was there when Fergus got booed, the media got to the Celtic support at that time too,so don’t let our feelings get in the way of Celebrating a Celtic title.
Go with head held high, stick out the 4 leaf clover upon thy chest, and cheer as loud and as proud as you can.
That the Celtic are the Champions again.

I m a big guy as ralph will testify, but Im not ashamed to say I wept several times yesterday, as finally 27 years of fighting against a system designed to protect its own rather than find the truth was eventaully worn down by the unquencahable desire for truth from the survivors and families.
I wept not for joy but sadness and anger, that relatives died without seeing this day, that smears about the actions of fans persist even to this day, a guy at work exprssed surprise that fans were not found to be responsible in any way for their deaths as they had according to him been drunk and surged in without tickets. Even after all these years and enquiries these sorts of misconceptions persist as the police got the lie out first.

Celtic of course played a small but importnat part in helping LFC return to some kind of normality and I m proud of that but overall im just angry and sad that generations of people have had to take up a fight ofr justice and truth originally denied them. May they rest in peace.

The Mail today are suggesting a probe into a Masons roll in the cover up.They say that Duckenfield the Match commander was a Mason since 1975,the suggestion is that he and his boss who himself a Mason Ass.Chief Constable Stuart Armstrong conspired with other ranking officers met days after to promote the cover up and to try to shift the blame onto another officer Supt.Roger Marshall.
The author of the false story to smear the liverpool supporters was alleged to be Sir Irvine Patnik the Tory M.P.
another Mason who forged intimate links with the other masons a lot of whom were based in the South Yorkshire force. Well who would have thought it,it always appeared to me that the cover up was thoughtherly organised and its tentacales spread wide.
So good on you the Scouser wives, your tenacity paid of and hopefully the end game is near.Thank you also King Kenny and your family for your efforts to try to help all the families through what must have been a living nightmare.

I had that kind of feeling yesterday too. The anger was there too. Why is our society so corrupt? Successive governments over 27years allowed this to fester , Thatcher protected her boys in The constabulary in Yorkshire for their ‘good job’ against the Miners which led to this travesty. I notice her press sec of the time and Boris have been noticeable by there absence from the media today Shame is difficult to come out from under. On a completely different matter, here is how to defeat Celtic on the park. Surprise, surprise…..RD’s team does not play 4231 at all. Maybe he means then to but they don’t. We play 2-2-4-1-1, and sometimes 3-2-3-1-1.

We play two CHs and sometimes Lustig at the back, hence the way to beat this is a long ball over the top of the CHs or a long diagonal ball to where a FB should be. The FBs act as wing backs and attack to supplement the attacking midfield. The 2 comprises NB and SB who should protect the depleted defence but have neither the pace nor the tackling to do so. The attacking three or four consist of Gms, Roberts, Rogic, McGregor, Forest supplemented by wing play from KT and Lustig. If we were playing 4231 properly some of these players would interchange between helping SB etc and playing as forwards. That simply does not happen so we end up with a shambles of a midfield that neither helps the defence nor adds to the attacking options. Players are caught between two stools, so to speak.
Commons and CZR play in the hole, but as the ball rarely gets to them, they drop back to get it. Then you see the crazy sight of CZR playing as a creative central midfielder as he did against RC.
All the opposition has to do is get the bal past or through the 4 to outnumber our defence. One misplaced pass by the 4 can cause this to happen.

Why the manager cannot see this is beyond me. It is not just that the 4231 is a poor system for this pool of players, it is that it is not implemented properly. Amazing!

Rebus,
It’s not the system (well it is only part of the problem) The players are not good enough or fit enough to play to any system for a sustained period.
First the players, from Sunday, Gordon, Tierney,Griffiths are the only players better than anyone else in Scotland in their position. Others, Biton, Rogic, Commons were but have faded badly. The others need replacing and some of them shouldn’t have darkened our door.
Next, the pace of our game has dropped markedly, whether they cannot or will not do this to spite Delia. Opposition can easily retain their shape and restrict us. We fall into an almost training game pace, giving the opposition the belief we should have robbed them of in even coming to the ground..Solution…play the better players on the bench.
On a separate note, I see the Herald is stirring it further over Michael Duffy although it has to be said he hasn;t helped himself.

If they are good enough it would work. Up until around 5 years ago every major trophy had been won by teams playing 4-4-2.not necessary the best players but the best ‘team’ (Barca excepted) RD always said they never played 1 up. At times it was obvious it was but at others (Hamilton) he was right. You could say formations are only obvious at kick off and that teams should be fluid bur how many times can you tell someone like CKR where to operate before you witnesm (as you say), the car crash that was his display on Sunday?
Attack in numbers, have ggod players to start with and get your shape defending from the front when you lose the ball.
Barca front three do it yet ours can’t or won’t.
RD – Okay we press high from the front’
Commons, after 5 minutes…’feck this’
Spurs may have better players but Leicester are going to win the league.
Barca have great players but Atletico (although it pains me) may win the double.

Know what,I’m pissed off, I’m pissed about all the greeting this is wrong that’s wrong everything is fuckin wrong.
We are on the road to wreck and ruin. Caused by a loss of what a supporter means, caused by yes a manager clueless.
A board clueless to the fans wanting transparency.
Res 12 is of course huge, but what if the result from Res 12 means no case to answer. Do we continue to fuckin greet..
Well fuck that I’ve had enough. You know what,I’m going to support Celtic, not Peter, not Dermot, but the team of my father, and his father before him. I’ve had enough of the fuckin moaning, the I know better than you lot. So fuckin whit Sevco are back next season, good I say, they will show there selves up to be what they are. Get over your selfs Celtic fans, be proud be loud, don’t give an inch, don’t let them be the top again.
We deserve better, I know that, you know that. But when you go to work tomorrow,do you ask, wonder what the chairmen/women is doing today, why is she/he not here today. Of course not,so what Dermot doesn’t turn up on a Saturday, given a day on the golf course in Bermuda or a freezing day in Glasgow,I know where I would rather be. Does that make you less a Celtic Fan.
Of course not.
I’m pissed off with it all, every day I wake up,I thank the Lord, that I was born into a Celtic Family,I thank the Lord that I had parents who gave me Celtic as part of my life.
So as you keep whinging about anything and everything,I will cherish my time, with my son and my grandson, that we paid our bills,we won 9in a row first,we won the big cup,the first British club to do so.we gave Europe the fabulous Lisbon Lions.
So though I have been left despondent,by performances this season, I am true to the faith of my fathers.
Let us rise and be clear Celtic First Celtic Last Celtic Overall

No need to troll you Bondi, I’ll leave that business to you.
However, I feel I should reassure that my post was said in complete jocular mode and entirely free of sincerity.
May I take this opportunity to thank you for your kind words.

Now go and tell your wife to put the fucking kettle on!
