Thoughts On The Hearts Game

Uralius offers a line of thinking before, during and after yesterdays 3-1 win over Hearts.

Looking at the Celtic line-up I am a tad disappointed not to see Callum Mac starting, but I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised that Jo got the nod ahead of him.

Oh Ronny are you sure sure going with Boyata against a team that has given us a hard time this season and are sitting third is the best option? What is wrong with Charlie Mulgrew?

Over joyed to see the boss opt for 1 inverted winger (Roberts) and so happy to have GMS back in the line-up as a traditional wide man. Also happy to see Rogic in there as he saved our skin last game and we have missed his strength and ability to hold up the ball.

So happy in fact I sent in a comment to the Celtic TV studio saying how happy I was about the choice of wide men, no matter how unwanted my comments are.

Celtic enter the Huddle, the crowd are in good voice!

I think this is going to be a good day!

We seem to have started a little shaky Hearts are closing down our defenders and a few balls that would normally have been played out are floated up-field only to come back our way!

The camera switches to Robbie Neilson who seems to be indicating to go over the top of something…. is this a strategy he is reminding his players of? If so hopefully Ronnie has not asked our CDMs to try and be CBs in the heart of our back line….

~ 4 min we see Rogic is going to be a handful for Hearts, he holds up the ball nicely (whilst being wrestled) to create an attacking opportunity, but it fizzles out with a misplaced pass from Broony.

Yeah a few balls from Hearts over the top into the wide…..

What the flock (of sheep)?

~ 5 min Hearts direct a ball over the top into the our wide right area of the field Erik has to come wide to deal with it, he does not seem happy; he puts it out for a throw. The throw results in a low cross which is blocked  by Erik and a sliced clearance from Roberts which floats to GMS who heads the ball away, but it falls to Souttar who sends it back in and Lustig rises to try and deal with it, but it spins to the middle of the field 20 yards out. Erik steps up to deal with it, but is tugged and the ball falls to Walker, Boyata is in two minds left or right? CLOSE DOWN THE ANGLE, STEP UP! Blistering strike from Walker Gordon has no chance.

It’s still early I am convinced we are playing with the correct attacking 4 COME ON!

A couple searching balls up to Griffiths. He is being well looked after the Hearts defense clearly don’t want him winding their fans up.

~10 minutes Oh finally we have started to play! Roberts to Rogic to Roberts to GMS to Tierney. Tierney fouled. Nice delivery from Roberts from the resultant Free-Kick, but alas it comes to nothing.

~ 12 min Oh yeah Johansen is playing…..

Camera shifts to Ronny… He looks worried. Don’t worry mate it will come good….

Free kick Celtic – What a great idea Boyata; go up and ask if we are having  crack, then just saunter away letting everyone know not to worry about the delivery.

Cracking effort from Griffiths one of his best this season. Good save Alexander.

~ 14 min Corner; the ball is sent in to the near post it bounces around and Rogic ends up with the ball he looks to go to the byline, but opts to send the ball out wide to Roberts who flights the ball in again a Hearts player wins the header and “clears” the ball, but it falls to GMS who has been lurking on the edge of the box since the corner, he stretches out his left foot, controls the ball bringing it from his right side to his left side and BOOM!

Excellent strike! CELTIC have equalized.

Souttar’s distribution is going to continue to cause us problems if we let it. Still wish we had signed him.

Looks like this is going to be a physical scrappy match, which will likely suit Hearts.

~ 17 min Celtic win the ball in the Center Circle the ball is passed to Rogic who plays Griffith through perfectly, just the keeper to beat! Unlucky Griff.

~ 21 min Rare sight of Ronny shouting instructions, we are looking a tad shaky, this is exciting stuff, the crowd are loving it.

Seriously Juanma? Rolling around until you see the yellow card then suddenly you jump up! Get a grip!

Free kick bounces off the bar, but Gordon had it covered anyway.

~31 min Oh yeah Johansen is playing….

Seriously Juanma? Kieren won the ball fair and square he hardly touched you and there you are rolling around. Congratulations you are now enemy #1 for the rest of this game ya skunk haired Jesse!

Oh now you are complaining to the Ref? He already gifted you 2 free kicks; why are you are complaining?

~34 min Juan(crying home to ma)ma has a brilliant opportunity to put Hearts in front, but he blazes it over the bar.

Perhaps if he wasn’t too busy worrying about whether or not someone was near him so he could dive he might have scored….. Karma son!

~ 34 min Rogic wins the ball out wide right and dribbles inside. Griffiths looks over his right shoulder towards the center of the field seeing Patrick Roberts there not 2 yards from him he darts towards the right corner flag dragging a defender with him, Roberts runs into the space created, Rogic’s pass is perfect and Roberts sublimely chips the keeper to put the ball inside the left of Neil Alexander’s goal.

From certain angles Walker looks like Jackie McNamara

~ 40 min Oshineewa…… actually I am speechless…….. hold on……. What on earth was going through his head when he ran in and head-butted Rogic? In days gone by that would have erupted into a complete brawl between the 2 teams! Completely out of order! Yeah you had better stay down that is easily a red-card! Lets see what the ref does. Good to see Rogic up again. Oh there is the brawl.

What a YELLOW? Are you kidding me?

~ 45 Min Oh yeah Johansen is playing……

~ 45 +1 Min Rogic off and Bitton on. presumably Johansen will push forward into the #10 role.

~ 45 +2 min Johansen is through HIT IT! Johansen plays it to Roberts, Roberts tries to improve his angle, but is disposed! Well done Johansen!

~ 45 +4 min Couple of fouls by Hearts (too many in my opinion) Griffiths takes 2 decent free kicks. Neil Alexander is up to the task.

Half Time:

~ 46 min Nice delivery from a corner from Roberts, Boyata rises to head the ball ,but doesn’t get enough on it Griff is there to help the ball on….. Alexander saves, but only just.

~ 48 min Beautiful touch by Johansen with the outside of the foot, sends the ball out to Roberts. Rossi is not keen to go in on him due to his yellow card; Roberts cuts in and drives the ball past Alexander. What a brilliant goal! Happy to see Johansen making an impact in that #10 role and totally stoked to see Roberts get another.

~ 51 min Juanma finds himself in the box with an opportunity, but again he just dances around hoping for a tackle that he can go down easily from. Well actually some brilliant defending prevented him from turning and before he knew it there were too many Hooped shirts for him.

Counter attack from Celtic ends with a shot going wide from Griff, Johansen had made a great run into the box and a pass probably would have resulted in a goal. Hind-sight is 20-20.

Celtic support are in good voice. So happy that there has been a coming together of team, support and management.

~ 59 min Bitton plays a nice through ball that is snatched just before Griffiths can take a touch, it rolls to Alexander. Griffiths keeps up the chase and tackles the ball sending it goalwards, but it trickles past the post much to the relief of the Hearts Goalie.

Juanma falls over his own feet again and wins a free kick somehow.

~ 63 min Nice one-two between Johansen and Roberts ends in a nice shot from Roberts, but it’s easily dealt with by Alexander.

~ 64 min Hearts have a shot on target, but it’s no trouble for Gordon

~68 min Wee Mac on for GMS

Hearts pass well for a moment and get the ball forward, but Boyata is there to mop it up.

~ 73 min Boyata does brilliantly to break up a Hearts attack, but for some reason Hearts get awarded a free kick just outside the edge of our area.

~ 76 min Erik floats a ball to the edge of the Hearts box with amazing accuracy, finding Griffiths he brings it down onto his chest and drills it low, but Soutter slides in and blocks the shot. Wish we had signed him….. oh wait I already said that didn’t I.

~ 77 min  Griffith off Kazim-Richards on

~ 80 min Johansen gets the ball 25 yards from goal, passes the ball perfectly to Callum Mac who forces a save from Alexander. Unsurprisingly Kazim-Richards slips as the rebound flies past him.

Is Scott Brown still playing? Did he go to the same guy as Anthony Stokes for his hair?

~ 83 min Oh suddenly Juanma can ride 2 challenges before Scott Brown steps in….. Ah there he is.

 Kitchen if you hurt Tierney!!!

~ 87 min Bitton takes a free kick which is a doddle for Alexander to deal with.

Celtic Park is in a huge huddle now! The support are loving it!

~ 88 min Boyata returns a clearance with his head up towards Kazim-Richards, the big lad does well dribbling into the box, holding up the ball and passing it to Roberts who has made it to the edge of the box, but a Hearts player gets a touch which results in the ball passing Roberts. unlucky lad. Best thing I have seen Kazim-Richards do in a Celtic Jersey, there may be a player in there after all…..

~ 89 min Hearts attack down our left flank to the byline the cross is flighted in, meets the head of a Hearts player, but Craig Gordon stretches to the rescue and touches the ball over the bar.

Patrick Roberts named man of the match and I am totally jealous of his side-burns having never been able to grow any myself.

~ 90 +1 min Oshin-awa ye go ya cheating so an’ so. Gets the red card he should have got for his foul on Tom Rogic in the first half. Why are ye arguing lad? You got a free 45 minutes; down the tunnel you go. Although I don’t know if that was much of a foul, but wait the name Juanma springs to mind.

Come on ref. blow the whistle…

Full time Celtic 3 -1 Hearts

Closing comments:

The times are not accurate (~) CelticTV did not have a clock….

Prior to the start of the match I mentioned the use of 1 inverted wide man and 1 traditional wide man: Hearts did not park the bus on this occasion. Therefore it is my opinion that it made very little difference because there was plenty of space anyway. What is more important is the form and creativity of the wide men overall in this instance.

I also mentioned that I was worried about Boyata, I think he actually played quite well. I felt he could have stepped towards Walker, for the goal, but I don’t know what instructions he had, therefore I will not blame him.

I gave the holding midfielders a tough time. Probably unfairly so. Their job is often thankless covering large areas of the field while more attacking players attack and it is quite difficult to even see what they are doing while watching TV. I am sure that both players were working hard for the full 90 minutes.

As stated earlier the support were great from what I could hear and I know from some that were at the game the atmosphere was brilliant!

More of the same Bhoys!

Hail, Hail!

It’s all about the three points now, if we can add a bit of swashbuckling to the winning bit, all will be well.
A wee bit disappointed to see Boyata in the team before Mulgrew, but I’m assuming Mulgrew must have picked up a knock.
However if Boyata and Mulgrew were both fit and he chose Boyata, this would confirm that Deila is clueless.
The form of Brown is a major concern, at this stage of the season we need the captain putting in inspirational performances.
Is he still carrying a knock?
Good to see some goals coming from the midfielders, about time as well as they haven’t done enough to take the weight off Leigh Griffiths shoulders, hope they keep it up.
Dens Park on Tuesday will be another test, if we come away from Dens with the three points, I might be able to relax a bit for the run in.
Still a he’ll of a lot of questions remain about this manager and team, but if we keep on winning and throwing in some convincingly strong performances, then I’ll settle for that for now. HH!

P.S. I see Nadir Ciftci scored against Galatasaray the other day, I still think it was a mistake to let Ciftci go out on loan, I think he is better than Kazim-Richards and proven in Scottish football.

Monti- Mulgrew came back from the Internationals with a tight groin hence why he wasn’t even in the squad.
You might also have noticed Boyata came back in playing on the left side of the CB pairing which was a change Deila obviously felt was needed given the Season both Lustig and Tierney have been having.
ie he felt more comfortable with Erik covering Lustigs arse than Boyata.
Which proved to be a good move as both Boyata and Erik looked happier setup in this way.
Browns form has deserted him all Season it’s been one of the main factors as to why we have struggled in midfield so much this year ,as has the form of Johansen, low and behold he puts a decent shift in and things start to look much better.
I would not start Brown next game so bad is his passing right now he’s an empty shirt right now.
Also a liability as he tries to make up for lost form with poor decision making.
The goals have mainly been coming from midfield ALL SEASON the reliance to score the bulk of the goals has not lay on the shoulders of the main striker hence why Griffiths has remained relaxed all Season whilst deploying up on his own all season.
He is on target to hit 40 goals yet has still not scored a third of the goals scored this season.
Of the total goals scored this season Griffiths has 35
The Midfield have scored 49
Again we are less reliant on the front man playing this System than with 2 up in the old system.
It would appear Deila is more clued up than perhaps you continually fail to give him credit for bud.

Ok by me CS reasonable assessment of the situation . Good game on Sat spoiled by another cheating/ incompetent ref. Hearts goal should have been disallowed for a foul on The Great Dane and Oshiniwa should have been off on two other occasions after his assault on Rogic the guy is a danger to himself and everyone else on the park. Upwards and onwards towards title 5 . Wonder if The Special One would come to Celtic ? Seems to be trying to force MU to employ him. Ha HaHa?☘☘☘

Well, well its feckin steaming hot here today in Bonnie Dundee,I will need to take my 3 shirts and 2 jerseys off.
It always amazes me how champions can raise there game when that is required.Yesterday i witnessed a team that fought, was determined and the skill shown by Roberts,Rogic,Gms, Tierney and others showed made me proud.Football though just isnt just about skill, experience also helps along with fight and determination and the right tactics.
Seven games to go,lets get it won.
btw a humping in the cup to a lower league team would be very satisfying.H.H.

I must take a trip back to Dundee. I have never seen it in the sun and certainly never felt any heat there even when both clubs were decent teams. Records show it did reach nearly 29* once though I think the weatherman had one too many that day. I was more familiar with its lowest – 17*. However, your tourist
information service has me geed up to fever pitch and given the gloom and doom down here in Geordieland – a cheap version of Disneyland with the same carTOON (I hope you appreciate the genius in this pun) characters trying to pretend they are fantastic supporters. Ashley is “King” doon in the Toon and taking them for
a ride just like the South African witch doctor at Ibroke. Must book a train ticket across the Tay Bridge if it is still standing and the earlier I do it the cheaper I get it. Well you know what they say, “when in Dundee do as the Dundonians – be tight”. I hear they are the soberest folk in the land because nobody wants to buy the first round. If truth be told, I used to love the Dundee trips especially in the old days. Had great fun with Maggie and Daphne while Maw, Paw, Hen and Joe were oot 🙂 Horace was always reading books mmm!! in the back room and I am not sure the twins were even born then. So, let them snigger aboot ye’r bonnie toon. You and I both know where the action is even with walking sticks.

Comes with senility. Well, that’s my excuse. This might keep you cool in that heatwave 🙂

Bonnie Dundee

Tae the lairds i’ convention t’was Claverhouse spoke
E’er the Kings crown go down, there are crowns to be broke
Then each cavalier who loves honour and me
Let him follow the bonnet o’ bonnie Dundee.
Chorus
Come fill up my cup, come fill up my can
Come saddle my horses and call out my men
Unhook the west port and let us gae free,
For it’s up wi’ the bonnets o’ bonnie Dundee!

Dundee he is mounted, he rides doon the street,
The bells they ring backwards, the drums they are beat,
But the Provost, douce man, says “Just e’en let it be
For the toun is well rid of that de’il o’ Dundee.”

Chorus

There are hills beyond Pentland and lands beyond Forth,
Be there lords i’ the south, there are chiefs i’ the north!
There are brave Duinnewassels, three thousand times three
Will cry “Hey!” for the bonnets o’ bonnie Dundee.

Chorus

Then awa’ to the hills, to the lea, to the rocks
Ere I own a usurper, I’ll crouch with the fox
And tremble, false whigs, in the midst of your glee
Ye hae no seen the last o’ my bonnets and me!

Keep ye’r hat on and take care.

Watched the BBC Final Score yesterday and at 90 minutes the presenter and the reporter at Ibrox were saying that Rangers are on course “to be promoted back” to the SPL. Sorry, i’m slightly confused, do you not need to have been in a certain situation, place etc. prior to coming ‘back’ to it? This ‘football club’ have NEVER been in the SPL before.

Aside from this, great win yesterday. Roberts is the flair player we have been crying out for. I just love Rogic, he plays with heart. Brown was ineffectual yet again. Jo hansen didn’t play badly either.

At the game, atmosphere fantastic. Roberts goals superb, GMS put in a shift.Rogic strong in midfield, Agree Broonie ineffectual, think his best days could be passed.
Madden as usual went out of his way to give ridiculous decisions against Celtic. Though this sending off in the 91st. Minute was a tad late.
Note the sheepiesisashambles winning against Hamilton, but think Hearts will turn them over on Friday as they want second.
Hearts did everything to make the game difficult with quick closing, but overall Celtic the better team.

Just read (red) some of this ETims post and cannot believe the lack of quality and the substitution of nonsense for quality. I quit reading it early, so may have missed something.
Uranus/Uralius seems to have gotten traction in his fucking nonsensical, statistical shit where our best players have to play, in a prescribed position, upside-down (inverted) and “assymetrical”. When the fuck, EVER, was football played symetrically? Yeah, fucking exactly.
Big Jock Stein saw, clearly, through fucking idiots like this. BJ, “We’ll need to score 3 to get, maybe 2.” “The referee cannot stop a good team from winning” “Football is nothing without the fans” – aye, asymetrically, invert that type of profound football thinking, Uranus/Uralius. Must say more your Anus, than Uralius.

I am not a reporter I do not provide an overview, followed by the details followed by some shit you already know.
I am trained in technical writing so you will get: An opinion (hypothesis) followed by analysis (often in bullet format) and finally you will get a conclusion referring to the hypothesis. If you read the whole thing you will find that structure. I do not refer to the past, I only allow snippets of emotion in to try and prevent it from being dry and I above all try and be true (albeit through my Celtic glasses) . If you read the whole thing and would like to provide constructive critism I will always take it on board and see if it sits well with me.

Hiya, Uralius,
I’ve just had a wee, quick look on ETims before collapsing into my pit. Been in/out all day and drank ‘mer than just enough’. Saw your comment so felt it fair to respond. (Haven’t yet read the full ETims post) In general I’m not a lover of ‘over-tactics’ when playing the simple game of football. You see it differently. That’s fine. I just love Celtic, so, end of day, I will try to be friendly with any Tim, North, East, South or West of Knightswood, where I grew up.
HH
PS To all Tims, I felt it was just so good to see the Bhoys ‘perform’ a bit yesterday.
I’m an ‘all-weather’ supporter as long as the Bhoys on the park understand they are privileged to be able to play in the Hoops.

Yep folk really should do.

So Vinne,’let’s have your flowery prose grace the diary and we can give you feedback on your superior style and content. Nothing like proving it

BB, (widnae be boys brigade, wid it?), but my “Flowery prose” etc…) that’s a wee bit vague. Should you still be up/unsupervised at this time?
Anyway, flowery prose?
Cop for this ‘flowery prose’ (although it’s neither flowery nor prose). We were challenged outside Easter Road (long after the Easter Rising), in the seventies. Ah got in wi’ a half bottle of Grouse and one of Lanny, Oor Ian got in wae a dozen cans. This is verifiable, just like the slope at Easter Road.
Broxburn, if you read (red) my earlier response to Uralius, you’ll realise, regardless of half-witted comments of some ‘Tims’ like yourself, I SEE THE BIGGER PICTURE. I love all Tims, Worldwide and mentally-challenged too.

That was it ? Just another confused rant. Predictably poor and silly. Must try harder!

After much excitement yesterday,it was great to be there.
I have now watched the game back twice.
My excitement has gone, too we got out of jail there!
Ronnie played his usual formation, and Robbie Neilson played a blinder. He went 532 and forced us back.
Our full backs couldn’t get up the park, as they would normally do,and our midfield was over run.
If they would have took their chances when they came, half time could have been a different scenario.
Thankfully our bhoys took theirs, but once again the worrying signs are there, that good forwards will bury us if the chances keep coming.
I hope we get it sorted.

Agree totally, but we wont get it sorted till we get rid of Deila. Most annoying and confusing thing is the input or non input of John Collins,he was at Celtic for many years and played in two up front attack minded formations, although Deila tries to use attack minded formations with one up front and too many attacking central and wide midfield players,it simply isn’t producing the type of football the fans crave or have been used to down the decades hh ynwa

Monti,
I wouldn’t say Leicester actually felt on counter attacking football, but they do play very compact aiming for no more than 25m front to back when defending. They do play extremely direct often out wide and they have a very good defense. The tactic they employ would not work with our current choice of defenders I’m afraid. Especially seeing as they can’t mark zonally very well and struggle to step up to win the ball. Oh and they do play the off-site trap…. we saw how well that worked out in the international matches for one of our defenders.
In the same way 4-2-3-1 works well with Müller and Co. The style being employed by Leicester works well because of Hugh and Co.
I firmly believe we could pull it off up front and put wide wit h our current players, but defensively we woud get shafted.

Uralius,
It’s just a personal preference of mine at the end of the day, I was brought up watching Celtic play with two strikers.
I think football is a very, very simple game, managers like Deila are trying to change the world when it doesn’t need changing.
I actually prefer the MON tactic he used 3-5-2, Celtic should be playing with two strikers in Scottish football!

I preferred when MON played with 3 strikers in Scotland. He seemed to sign bampots and get the best out of them. Made for great entertaining football. We need more bampots. With enough of them I don’t think it would matter what formation we played. Issue is that you need a certain type of man to keep the bampots in line. He either has to be the biggest bampot or an excellent leader they would follow into anything. Those managers seem to be reducing in numbers continually.

Well Monti, fuckin’ great comment. Can’t work out how any fucker can win 4-4-2, but I trust you to be right.
I’d have settled for 1-0.
Anyway, I think, we are all Leicester.

Just read a report in Daily Record that says Sevco will be promoted to the premier for the first time since they were demoted to the lowest division four years ago! This myth needs to be continually challenged since it is continually spouted. Old Rangers were liquidated and ceased to exist. A new club was formed after the purchase of a basket of assets by Chucky Green. That new club was permitted to join the lowest tier ( ahead of othe more deserving clubs ). They were not demoted they started there. They have never been demoted, they have never been in the Premier. What’s so difficult with this set of facts for journalists simply to get it right??
