Celtic Diary Friday February 26: Plastic Pitch Peril Solved

Celtic face Hamilton tonight, after manager Ronny Deila begged the SPFL for more games against the Lanarkshire side, due to it being the last time no-one moaned at him about the results, tactics, or team line up.

Celts, of course, won 8-1 in the last encounter, giving the support an idea of what it’s like when things go to plan. It didn’t last long.

Any chance of a repeat tonight ?

Its unlikely, but a win shouldn’t be beyond the hoops, and as that would put celtic nine points clear at the top of the league, and deliver a massive psychological blow to Aberdeen, then thats all we should ask.

Saidy Janko returns to the squad, James forrest has been left out, giving him a chance to get his head together, and Carlton Cole is injured, along with Jozo Simunovic. Ach, they’ll be company for each other.

So Ronny says, but we’ll get confirmation later when Peter releases the team sheet.

Gary Mackay Steven is a little worried that Hamilton might be out for revenge.

“Since that defeat they have gone on a pretty decent run, Before that game we knew they were a good side and are more than capable of putting results together so it was pleasing to get that result, but I think it’ll be a different scenario and they will be right up for this one so we’ll need to be right at it too.

“We scored early and created a lot of chances early on and managed to take them all, which was pleasing. It was five-nil at half-time and it was one of those nights where every chance we got seemed to go in, which was great for us.

“It was a good night but Hamilton are not an easy team to play, especially at their place so it’ll be a tough game on Friday.”

We really need to stop showing so much respect to other teams. Sometimes the way the players approach games makes me believe that they believe the nonsense they spout.

It’ll be that plastic pitch which could be a leveller, so the guys need to be careful of injury as well. Mikael Lustig showed us the new away top, specially designed for such an occasion.

Deila though, will play it safe, ensuring that the players have special footwear designed for plastic pitches.

Speaking of plastic pitches, Mark Warburton, manager of First Division Second Rangers, had a pop at Ronny, after the Celtic manager said he was a clueless tosser who didn’t have the faintest idea what he was on about.

Or something like that, I’m paraphrasing here.

Actually, that might have been me.

But Ronny has upset the Govan Guardiola, who responded the same way he usually does, with dignity.

“If Ronny did say that then I think that’s disrespectful because you are entitled to your own opinion.

“I think the one line for me that jumped out from that interview is number one, there’s a good grass pitch and number two there’s a good artificial pitch.

“If you’re happy to accept second best then go for the artificial pitch, if you want to set the higher standards then you go for the best quality of grass pitch. That for me was the one sentence that summed it up.”

So it’s “disrespectful ” to offer your own opinion, unless it’s his opinion.

I think I know what the fabled magic hat looks like, complete with nasal attachments

Back at the ranch, and the absence of Carlton cole from the team has prompted questions from the press, especially as the forward has been linked to a move to China. When this was mentioned to Deila, he said it was news to him.

No shit.

Why would any player bother letting Deila know about his future plans or ambitions?

It became obvious when Nadir Ciftci and Aiden Nesbitt went out on loan the day after the Partick game that Deila has little or no control over the staff.

And its this that may ultimately see him exit Celtic Park, having failed to stamp his authority.

Tonight we can expect Gordon, Lustig, Sviatchenko Boyata Tierney Brown , Biton, Armstrong, Johansen Mackay Steven and Griffiths.

Allan , Christie and Roberts may make an appearance, but not until late on.

I suppose we should get the league won before experimenting with flair and excitement.

Looking forward, and the tickets for the Morton game are on sale.

Please note that our print at home facility will not be available until after 5pm on Monday, February 29.

12 noon on a Sunday.

There is not expected to be a capacity crowd, and to be honest, if this trend continues, it won’t be long before the club will be ringing fans to ask what time they can make it before deciding on what time to kick off.

It’s not entirely the clubs fault, and the SFA deserve a chunk of the blame as they don’t exactly sell the tournament, but then again, they don’t exactly sell anything.

They could make it more interesting by making all the cup games a sort of handicap event.

For instance, we could have Willie Collum as referee, with Stephen Muir, Bobby Madden and the boy Dallas on the lines.

Or , maybe they could bring back an old friend…

That should even it up a bit, and Celtic could perhaps make it more of a competition by hitting all the corner kicks either too hard or too soft.

Oh, hang on, we do that anyway.

Nothing is certain in the cup, and to be honest, it presents a great and affordable opportunity to take the kids along for a day out. Especially if they have been misbehaving all week.

That’ll put a stop to it, if you threaten to make them go again.

Elsewhere, drunken wife beater Paul Gascoigne found a few people prepared to pay to listen to his “memories “, although we hear it turned out he was asking them to remind him what happened during his playing days, and the whole thing ended up in a bit of a bigot fest, which is unsurprising.

And you know what, who cares ?

Every now and then now that the clubs gone, there will be events like this, but as the years go by, there will be less and less attending them.

And at least it kept them off the streets.

We hear that the next generation of the peepil is a little confused as to who to support now their old club is dead… especially as they are determined not to continue bailing out Scottish clubs..

Todays picture for you to offer up words of wisdom on ……

And no, its not the Lennon CSC in the London road Tavern sorting out the season books.

Aye, but he is a broken record. I’ve heard it all before. Cifti was signed to be a big Striker, but should have been moved to be an understudy be for Tom Rogic then we should have moved for Guido Marulingo or moved someone with Griff like traits into being his understudy for a couple of years. The Target Man up top is quite honestly playing into the hands of domestic defenses and if it worked Scandinavian sides would be much more prolific.

Great to see a picture of my favourite ever game, Striker, in the diary. That looks like a later version as the wee ribbon, sitting on the pitch waiting to be wound round the side of it, looks plastic. The original was a nylon affair. Hours of endless fun and one of the goalies was the dead spit of then CFC No. 1, Ally Hunter. Happy days.

Not read Sutty’s latest but remember his angry tirade after the Ajax game. The rubber pants brigade were apoplectic but not me, as it was only what everyone else, in the pub I was watching it, said.

Ralph’s pitiful a win is all that matters sums up the lack of ambition of a (large?) section of Celtic fans. If we were the second worse Celtic team ever they’d be happy.

The Cha,
Wee bit harsh on Ralph describing his opinion as ” pitiful “.
I do agree with you that Celtic should be winning games in a certain fashion, entertaining fashion.
Having said that, if at the end of the game tonight we have gone 9 points clear of Aberdeen, that will do for now!

I was playing the ball (the opinion) not the man (our esteemed diarist) 

We’ve already played our 8 hardest games (UCL Play-off and EL Group) and played about a dozen more games than the Sheep. We’ll only play, at most, 4 more games than them and they need 7 more points than us to win the league. Combined with our vastly superior squad surely we should be doing more than just winning, as if we’re in a tight toe to toe struggle with a financially doped up to the eyeballs, now gladly deceased, pre-Armageddon ‘rival’.

I’d suggest that ‘Whingeing Warbo’s’ gig at Sky during the week was a blatant attempt at putting himself in the managers ‘shop window’ and was pleading, so he could get the hell outta the ‘bigot dome’. His rants have become all the more frequent and erratic the closer it gets to ‘squeaky bum’ time. He will not be here next season as he can’t manage the pressure of the ‘gold fish bowl’, with the increased opposition next season, he will be looking for a get out clause and that’s with a fawning smsm. Only my opinion. HH

Sutton has absolutely nothing positive to say about Celtic, he has a negative attitude which pleases his masters.
A great player but a clueless manager.
If Ronnyhad the cash that MON had he would be in a better position, however he is Peter’s lapdog.
In relation to Warbsy the ta to all genius that has lowered his imperious standards to enter Scottish Football, his comments are farcical.

Sometimes an honest article may not come under the ‘ positive ‘ banner.

I prefer people to call it how it is rather than paper over the cracks with spin.

Spin is what u get at Ibrokes, trying to build up a new tier club, if u read the laptop loyal regularly, which I do not, then the spin regarding Celtic is negative.
Remember Dr Joe and the non entity Czech signed by him, could not even get his country right.

My issue with Sutton is not that what he says is true or false, it is the manner in which he constantly puts his opinion forward.
Several times on BT sports after euro games he has come across like he just escaped Cairstairs, shouting, ranting, raving, constantly repeating the same point and interrupting everyone on the panel. I do not believe this is because he cares about the club I believe this is merely the act of an attention seeking twat! It also helps him pay the bills.

Evening gents another night of shambles pssses us bye,and if Aberdeen get their act together it’s going to be a difficult run in.
Just in from the match managed to see the penalty incidents, again and why Mackinnon was allowed to stay on the park beyond me. If young tierney wasn’t as quick to see it coming he was a goner,so because he managed to get out the road no red card. Young lad staying on his feet saved the thug.He gets a yellow, then clobbers Johansen, who I thought was Celtics best player tonight and no card.
Boyata I think is just a little unlucky, I think he got enough of the ball, but I can see why the ref gives it.
Missed penalty so costly, but the game went as I thought.
Compact accies let us play passy as usual in areas it doesn’t matter, possession overkill, keeper not one save to make, not one shot fired in. Too easy too predictable,to play against.

I think it was offside Monti but the fact of the matter is Boyata gave the smiling assassin an opportunity to send him off.
He duly obliged of course thus changing the whole game as a result.
We went from 80% possession to hitting on the counter in one moment of brash decision making by Boyata.
The Manager has clearly spoke to the defenders about this and he has chosen to ignore him.
Game changer no need.

Every time he received the ball when we were on the front foot first half he stopped turned back and played it back 20 yards to Boyata or Brown.
Hopefully Janko is back soon he at least can take a man on and looks to keep the momentum going forward.
Lustigs days are numbered I think.
