Celtic Diary Wednesday February 17: Shortage Of Midfielders Addressed

Reports suggest that Kristoffer Ajer will put pen to paper today on a four year deal with Celtic, which should cost around £800,000. Everyone seems happy enough about it, and he will join the squad as a midfielder, because we are down to the bare bones in that area of the park.

But if he’s as good as they say he is, then its another step to completely changing the first team in time for next season.

Vidar Riseth, who played in the hoops at the turn of the century, kind of poured cold water on any expectations, in a similar way to what he did when he was playing.

“It is a very good choice, I think,

“Firstly, Ronny Deila is there and he has shown that he is willing to put faith in young players.

“Celtic have also worked well with younger talents in recent years and I think Ajer will do well in the team.

“I believe he will get playing time and be given a chance next season, but I would not expect him to have a permanent place in the team.

“He is still young and Celtic are buying him a view to development. Nobody will expect too much of him in his first season.”

Regardless of what riseth thinks, Scott Brown is panciking at the new arrival, and has launched a “Keep Charlie Mulgrew ” campaign, as the bold charlie can still turn in the odd poor performance, which will keep attention away from Brown.

Charlie is a top-class player and he’s just getting his fitness back,’

‘He played against East Kilbride recently and got 70-odd minutes under his belt.

‘It was good to have him back on the pitch because he’s a character.

‘It’s great to have new faces and it’s almost like having one with him.

‘Don’t forget that he was Scotland’s Player of the Year a few years ago (Mulgrew was both PFA Scotland’s and the Scottish Football Writers’ player of the year in 2012) and it’s been a big loss for us not having him in the squad for the last three or four months.

‘Charlie’s a big-game player as well. He always turns up on the big occasions and that left foot of his is a wand.’

I always turn up for the big occasions as well, but i never get offered a contract. And I have to pay for my own seat.

‘He was out for a while and then he came back and hurt the same thigh again,’

Can’t he just wave his wand at it and make it all better ?

‘That’s hard to take but he’s mentally tough. He’s come through it and he keeps coming back before he should because that’s the kind of person he is.

‘Charlie always wants to be out on the training ground, working as hard as he possibly can. He does what he needs to do for his body, he knows how to get fit and he’s been doing that for weeks now.

‘He loves the club. He was born a die-hard fan and he still is one and you need guys like that in the dressing room because they bring a lot to the club – and the fans like that.

‘Charlie knows what it’s all about and he lives for this club.

Mulgrew would be grand if we could just bring him on when we get a free kick, because we don’t have anyone with any sort of proficiency in that department, but the pace of the game at times seems to much for him.

Mind you, I’d still keep him, but because of his experience. Its just that at some point the wages clerk is going to point out to the board that we appear to be a little overstaffed in the playing department, and there will be some p45s handed out sooner rather than later.

Talk of the new Atlantic League continues, but not actually among anyone with any influence to make it happen, and i had to chuckle when Graeme Young of the Daily Record asked if it would really benefit the Scottish game..

This is the crux of the issue.

In the early 2000’s Martin O’Neill’s side and Alex McLeish’s Rangers waged an assault on all domestic competitions in Scotland.

Between the 1998/1999 season and the 2004/2005 season, only Livingston were successful in lifting one of the three top trophies in Scottish football as Celtic and Rangers hoovered up the rest.

But now? Other sides in Scotland have found their feet.

Kilmarnock, St Mirren, Dundee United, Inverness Caley, Aberdeen and St Johnstone have won major trophies in recent years.

Teams in Scotland no longer fear Celtic and Rangers, so their departure would perhaps not be dreaded as it once was. Who knows – it may even be welcomed?

Teams no longer fear Rangers ? no shit.

And their departure “would perhaps no longer be dreaded ?”

They’ve already gone, mate. It was in all the papers. Including yours….

rip rangers

The Atlantic league won’t happen, but I’ll let you into a little secret, straight from the mouth of Peter Lawwell. Whether or not its still relevant, I cannot say, but around two years ago, it was.

The money behind the English Premiership is not only annoying other European sides, but English sides outwith those clubs who are now too “big ” to be relegated. for others, their existence is all about survival, they don’t even look to the cup as a relief anymore, the priority has to be to stay where the money is.

There are some clubs in the championship who have been making noises about at least a British League cup, leading eventually to some sort of  breakaway league.

Which is far more likely than any European tie up.

And it would be far more lucrative television wise, because even though Leicester City, god bless, have livened things up this year, it isn’t going to last.

TV needs new ideas, and with programmes such as Cats v dogs, or that one last night where mobile phone salesmen compete with each other getting prime time, the medium is desperate for new ideas, and sports channels are no different.

Steve Coogan creation Alan Partridge wasn’t too far off when he suggested Monkey Tennis to a fictional BBC series commissioner. it seems.

It’s not just television which appears to be dumbing down.

Daily Record nominated again for best sports team at the British press awards. *reaches for popcorn*

Along with this , er, startling revelation, are nominations for the Sun, for its sensitivity to women

Cotswold Life for its dedication to helping families make ends meet;

And Rebecca Gray of the Evening Times for getting the real stories out there;

Lionel the missing cat returns home after vanishing THREE years ago

Did you know, and here’s another wee secret, that all of the Scottish main stream media work from one room ?

Works of Shakespeare my arse.

Radio doesn’t escape either, as last night there were indications that the BBC Sportsound team may not have be as impartial as one would expect of a national broadcaster;

GOAL! Kilmarnock 1 Rangers 2 (Nicky Clark 90′)

Thats hurting my eyes.

Then again, everything in thre media does that these days.

Remember Magic Man Warburton having a go at artificial pitches?

Theres talk of one being installed at Ibrox now, and it appears they think that it will stop opposing teams in possession. You see, as a player skips down the wing, the groundstaff swing into action;

Bollocks. i prepared a slow cooking stew this morning, and forgot to switch it on.

She’ll kill me.

I should have put more thought into her Valentines present… if only i’d seen this before the weekend.

Yeah. Just imagine.

Finally, theres a new techno gadget on the market ..

Anyone care to explain it’s uses ?

It has been my belief since the Summer that the loss of both Denaayer and Van Dijk would greatly affect our European campaign.
Since then the loss of Mulgrew Lustig Jozo and Janko to injuries has amplified this issue further.
Our defence went from being a fairly solid unit to one in complete disarray.
This has not been an issue of poor coaching or management no matter what anyone thinks or says we could defend last Season fairly well once we had the new system in place and working as it should.
So a result of all of the above I had no real reason to believe we would be effective in Europe this Season?
In fact I was fairly resigned to the fact we would be mediocre at best with the defence being an issue.
So it has proven to be.
Am I happy that my fears came to fruition?
No not at all just satisfied that without selling VVD and without all these injuries occurring in the same time period when we need these big results to go our way that it’s not down to a poor Manager.
Just a Manager who has had poor luck.
I think we have the right guy to take us forward under the restrictions we obviously have at Celtic.

Surely we can’t blame that fiasco on the absence of a loanee (Deneyeer).

The signing of Ajer seems to be a good bit of business, based on the amount and quality of clubs Scouting him.
We will see though.
I see Saidi Janko is on the road to recovery and has started running, just don’t let him do his recovery beside Boerrigter.
I see a defence of Janko, Simunovic, Sviatchenko and Tierney developing.
Longer time, it’s time to be looking at Lustig, Ambrose and Izaguirre heading out the door.

I actually agree with all of this.

Had high hopes for big Jozo but worried about his injury record already. If he can stay fit then I’d be interested to see what kind of partnership he forms with Sviatchenko.

Lustig needs to learn to stay back when Tierney bombs forward. Can’t count the number of goals we’ve lost this season because both full-backs are miles up the pitch without looking at where the other one is. Tierney gets a pass due to inexperience, Lustig has no excuses.

Do you not think that a Managerial instruction could rectify this,i have watched that non direction for the past 19 months and seen the same problem,if you and i can see it why cant he?I scrolled back to yesterdays diary and saw your observation and i believe you are wrong all managers try to influence the referees, its part of the game it may not be pretty but it works,it worked in the past with Stein and Ferguson and it still works today.Football is a passionate game, supporters and players love it,refs hate it,commonsense tells you that a ref.will be swayed with an arrogant shouting Manager.

mike

You see that,i have watched it for the last 19 months,so how can the Manager not see it,why can he not instruct Lustig not to charge upfield when Tierney goes forward, its basic Managerial competence.MON and LENNON did something about it,they issued the players with instructions and the players complied.Hes paid handsomely to Manage,it would be great if he did the job properly.

Big nose,
Anyone who belittles David Moyes record in arguably the best league in the world, doesn’t know or understand football.
I’ll put it simply for the hard of understanding, for eleven years in the English premiership, one of the top two leagues in European football, he had Everton punching above their weight in all but one season, outplayed and achieving more than other clubs who had bigger budgets.
How anyone can pick holes in those facts is ridiculous.
The man was offered arguably the biggest job in world football at Manchester United, due to his work and reputation earned over more than a decade!
I tell you what, if Manchester United had given David Moyes the financial backing they have given LVG, I think he would still be there.

I want a winning manager not a manager whose best league position was 4th (arguably due to the talent of players at his disposal!!!) that was 2004/2005. What did he do after that?????? Another excellent peace. Had a look at the botching on the comments, I find it incredible that people belve the Buffon the Scottish media.
The majority of Celtc managers have ludicrous questions put t them t build a non story into a fact, over the last thirty years the drivel spouted about Celtic is unbelievable.
As supporters we should allow managers a bit of leeway on their comments.
Look at Ajars arrival, first question could he stand Scottish weather, hoping for a negative.
The story about the Champuons League is the fear that the Zombies will no be allowed to enter, that’s if they ever win the league, mind you their is always the wizard of Oz.
As supporters we should lobby the club to complain and commen on non stories.

Wondering what the panic is about this Season?
This is how it stood at this point in the proceedings…
Last Season
1 Celtic Pld 25 Gd +39 Pts 60
2 Aberdeen Pld 26 Gd +26 Pts 57
This Season
1 Celtic Pld 25 Gd +45 Pts 58
2 Aberdeen Pld 26 Gd +16 Pts 55

We have both got 2 point less that’s a draw instead of a win.
There is still only 3 points a difference.
We still have a game in hand.
Our Goal difference is better by 16 goals.
In effect we are actually in a better position than at this stage last season?
When you consider the issues we have had at the back this means as an attacking force we have actually improved.
I believe once we have the likes of Brown Mulgrew Johansen and Commons back firing again the performances will improve no end.
I understand many of you feel differently it’s all about the style etc and winning in Europe well my feelings have had it not been for the loss of our very important central pairing we would not have been so easy to beat in Europe this time round.
It has in my view derailed any thought of improving on last seasons showing later in the Europa.
You need continuity in defence we haven’t had that all Season until very recently.

Monti

Reply to  Charlie Saiz

Charlie Saiz,
It isn’t ” panic “, it is the overwhelming realisation that this manager is completely lost at European level.
Without going over everything again, the Champions league is something that Celtic need to be involved in every season, this manager can’t deliver that, he has had a go, now he needs to go!

Charlie Saiz
Reply to  Monti

Monti the problems we had in defence this Season would have affected any Manager.
These issues have taken us till February to get on top of such has been the result of further injuries in this area of the pitch.
When you have a side bereft of top quality players any loss to your best players be that through injury loss of form or player sales is going to have a massive impact at that higher level.
The margins for error in Europe are less than in the Domestic game.
Mistakes are punished in an instant.
We lost a very good pairing in Denaayer and Van Dijk.
We then lost Lustig Jozo and Mulgrew to injury.
Janko followed this meant a reliance on Ambrose and Boyata.
Further to that Brown,Johansen and Commons have all had injury issues.
Brown Johansen Armstrong and Mackay-Steven all started the season under performing.
These are big issues for a side like ours we need these types performing at their best in Europe to remain competitive.
It’s all one having a large squad but those players in second third pick positions are not at the same level as your Mulgrews Browns Lustigs Commons in Europe.
When you are foced chop and change almost by a week by week game by game as Deilas has had this Season it can cause havoc in defence.
Ignoring these factors as many have done this season has caused some to formulate an opinion based solely on results.
It’s naive to think other Managers would not have struggled under the same conditions.
We performed much better in Europe under Deila once the players got to grips with the new set up.
Unfortunately due to our wonderful policy regarding punting our best that level we reached was put back again.
Jozo Boyata and Ambrose are not at the same level as Denaayerr and Van Dijk.
If they were they would be punted too for £10m plus.
Deila is learning the had way in Europe but he is learning.
To change now would be foolish in my view I would suggest we see how the remainder of the Season pans out before making any rash decisions.
Europe after all is never a given unless of course you are Man City Barca Bayern or Madrid.

Monti

Charlie Saiz

The System we play is flexible so tactically it is the single best Formation to deploy.
Hence why so many top coaches do so.
The fact we have like last Season only lost 3 of the 25 games played regardless of the fact we have had defensive issue (which we have all season) would back this up.
The problem we have is injuries to specific areas of the Park that have caused the issue.
Central defence and Defensive Midfield.
Going forward we have not had any issues as we have plenty cover in the front 4 positions of the team.
So as a result the Manager has been FORCED to deploy players where he might not automatically choose to do so.

We’re agreed, CS, (and I think most people agree) that there are deficiencies in defensive midfield. Why, therefore, has the manager done nothing to recruit in that area? Inexcusable lack of awareness and ability are the only reasons I can identify.

@Charlie Saiz, You are right it is a flexible formation unfortunately our manager has 1 way of playing it and doesn’t like to deviate. Sure it can quickly become a 451 or a 433 or if can merely change by modifying the roles that players are filling. So far as I can see this is completely lost on the manager he just drops players into his system and expects it to work.
The wide players and #10 role are examples of this. Do you remember last year when we played Oh so well? Guess what? He was forced to play the 2 new lads from Dundee Utd. as traditional wingers because they had not trained in his system, but now they have been tactically trained and now they can play as inverted wingers cutting into the middle where Scottish clubs have learned to put all of their defenders and central midfielders.

Charlie Saiz

@Uralius
What are going on about?
Mackay-Steven came as a winger and Armstrong played out wide plenty times at United.
He’s been forced to play several players in other positions due to injury and suspensions.
McGregor for example has never operated as a DM but due to Brown Bitton and Mulgrew being out was asked to do a job in there.
Which he did fairly well considering his age and experience.
Johansen and Armstrong have both played in holding roles at previous Clubs including Stomgodset where Deila was Manager.
I find some of your posts overly complex and random at times bud if I am honest bud.
We have scored 94 Goals in 41 games with a rake of injuries and disruption, we sit on top of the table in exactly the same position as last season 3 points ahead with a game in hand.
I would say given the circumstances in defence we have done better than expected with a shambolic defence.

No what I am saying is even though we have had big issues in defence all season-which we have- it has not affected our position in the league.
The fact our goal difference has improved despite losing nearly twice as many goals as last season suggest as an attacking force we have improved.
Erik is settling,Jozo still to come back,Browns back,Johansen is back,Mulgrew is back,Commons will be back,Janko back soon,Armstrong improving and Mackay-Stevens form improving bodes well for a better run in I think.
More to be positive about than negative I think.

In attack we are not deficient in fact we are healthy with an abundance of attacking options.
With the return of both Mulgrew and Brown we have a bit more experience and savvy in defence than previously this season.
I expect a much more resilient Celtic now and as a result a much tougher one to beat.

It’s an insult to shite to suggest that our performances are shite. It’s a sad reflection on Scottish football that we are where we are. The quality has simply got worse over the past two years. How long had Deila been here? Coincidentally (?), two years. The prosecution rests.

Charlie Saiz,
I genuinely admire the effort you make in compiling stats and your obvious conviction in what you are saying, but I could also suggest some facts that Ronnie might not take comfort we lost pathetically to Malmo not a European superpower in the Champions league, We got horsed home and away by a very average Molde team we threw away a two goal lead against Fehnerbace, we have lost twice to Aberdeen we capitulated against Ross County, we lost at home to a very poor Motherwell team we have failed to beat Kilmarnock twice. The attendances are falling hand over fist. I am fully aware that we are not a team full of international stars there is no Larsson card to play but we should be getting more out of what we do have surely?

Charlie Saiz
Reply to  maryhillbhoy

I agree the results in Europe were piss poor bud there is no getting round it.
The 2 Molde perfomances for me were not acceptable from a Celtic side.
I would have played the Development squad in the next game and told them that.
That had more to do with those who played than he who chose them too I’m afraid.
Not acceptable.
Our defence has cost us big time in Europe we drew games we should have won.
Our best players currently are not the quality that we had previously under Lenny they have proven this time after time.
Some of those we had under Lenny like Izzy Lustig Brown and Commons are not producing the same level of quality they did.
That’s not Deilas fault btw that’s human nature taking control of the situation with age things start deteriorating as they get older.
So what we have is a transition period on the back of a transition period?
Last season it was a change of System and approach that caused issues first half of the Season.
This Season it’s a loss of 2 key men and a rake of injuries to contend with but the European campaign is relentless so there is little time to adjust or sort your problems out when they come into play.
Had Jozo and Erik come in in the summer and Mulgrew and Lustig stayed fit I doubt we would have conceded as much as we did.
Had Brown and Johansen turned up firing on all cylinders the Midfield would have retained it’s energy and pace in attack.
This is why I am more relaxed about Deila than some on here and else whwere I tend to look beyond the performance or result.
Even more so when there are issues.
Which there have been.

Ok Griff was left out until he basically forced his way in.
Armstrong was his first pick in Scotland. He is finally after a year getting better at deliveries with his Left foot.
GMS the second choice is still abysmal at using his right foot.
Allan can fair pick a through ball, but turns into trouble and is a complete liability in the air.
Cifti his marquee signing in the summer was never the kind of striker Ronny wanted. He got signed because he is a big lad. Cifti could easily have slotted into being an understudy for Rogic because of his awareness, off the ball movement, strength and dribbling ability, but nooooooooooooooooo.
All of these players were bought to sell for big bucks. They need to become complete players quickly. They need all of the holes in their game patched by the technical coaches, but instead they are spending hours and hours being judged on how to play an overly complicated system.

Ah yeah, so Zoolander bad, Partridge good? Yir a pyur bigot n that so ye are. I love them both. My comedy is a broad church. Though Broadchurch is not a comedy IIRC

This boy Ajer is 17. He might become a great player, but at that age there is as much chance we’ll never see him in the first team as that he’ll be a mainstay of our team until we have to accept a mega bucks deal and move him on.

In the last few years we signed a young striker from Scandanavia, the name escapes me but I think he has already been sent away again, and a young wide man from Derry City – again the name escapes me and I don’t know if he is still with us or has been loaned out or let go entirely.

Certainly both were signed with some degree of fanfare and neither has got near the first team.

So photos of him arriving at the airport etc are worrying – we are basically signing a development player and trumping it like some great coup – almost like poor old Second Rangers have to do.

I hope he turns out to be great, but I honestly do not expect to see him near our first team for at least a year, so will not get too excited right now.

We also don’t really need more numbers in midfield. Some good ones would be preferable at this stage to loads of quite similar and not especially good ones.

Talk of an Atlantic League brings into focus the real drawback to Celtic’s progress. To put it simply, it is “money”, or more precisely the relative lack of it. Do you see Kilmarnock winning the league next year? If you were forced to answer why you think that they won’t in one word, what would that word be? Now, now, calm down. This is a family show! Many would answer “money”.
The same is true for Celtic competing in the CL far less winning it. Follow the money for the answer.
The Atlantic League is the latest assault for clubs like Celtic on addressing the imbalance in finances in the game. Strategically, this is a good time for such discussions, because FIFA and UEFA are in a shambles and to have the threat of clubs, possibly breaking away, is the last thing that UEFA want. That is the good news, the bad is it will probably not succeed. How would you feel about going to a meeting in a nice place at somebody’s expense to discuss World Peace? After 50 cm of snow here last night, I’d grab it with both hands. The latest discussions on the Atlantic League are similar.
Meanwhile in the UK, those that have are given more and those that have not, are given less. Sky and BT fund the EPL..the latter being a new competitor. Both spend vast amounts on purchasing EPL games. The English game will be funded to the tune of £5bn from Sky and BT over the next three years. Whereas, the Scottish game will receive around £15m per season. The real battle between SKY and BT is for the future of how we shall watch sports events….namely cable or webcasting. The latter is likely to win. You will see a lot about this in the immediate future. However, what does this mean for Celtic? Unfortunately, IMHO, next to nothing. Whatever happens the gap between Celtic and the EPL clubs will continue to widen. Boycotts, changing managers, none of it, will change the big picture because the money gap is too big.
So, is there any hope? The only way forward for Celtic is to try to join the English leagues…. Do a Sevco and start near the bottom and work their way up the leagues. We could do this by purchasing a struggling club, selling their ground, and moving their home to Paradise. It means sacrifices(No European football…but did we have that this year?),it means no cups, it means getting rules changed in the English leagues, and it means watching Rotherham! Celtic Nation was an attempt to do this but there was no real financial or soccer backing behind this. I know there are problems to overcome with this, but staying still is in fact going backwards in Europe.
This is the missing piece from yesterday. Thoughts?

Charlie siaz you make some good points , you keep referring to the likes of mulgrew and jahansen returning and everything will get better , that may be the case but mulgrew has never been a regular for ronny and when he does play its been midfield. I would always have him playing left centre back where he got player of the year but ronny doesnt play him there so i dont think he can be classed as a big loss. Johansen was good last year but he has been rank rotten all of thus season so i just dont see how he is going to suddenly turn it round, in my opinion there are several players who can perform better behind the striker and although you can say his loss of form has been a factor in our poor performances, its ronny who has continualy picked a player who is under performing so thats down to him. I believe this has been a big part of the fans getting on ronnys back and led to the kris commons fall out in the european game. , i personally think instead of talking about players coming back we should be freshening the team with the likes of christie allan and roberts.

Charlie Saiz

Reply to  delbhoy

When we lost Jozo to injury and had Mulgrew been fit he would have featered in the LCB slot I reckon.
Similarly when both Brown and Bitton were out he would put Mulgrew in the Left side of the DM pairing which in turn could have meant McGreogor being used out on the left rather than the under performing Armstrong.
All these wee issues have had a knock on effect as a result.

Charlie Saiz
Reply to  Charlie Saiz

The players you mention play in an advanced role bud.
Our issues have not been in attack this Season we have a plethora of attacking options with the System we deploy the only issue is if Griffiths gets injured then we become reliant on both Cole and Richards.
Neither of whom have set the heather alight yet-not to say they can’t or won’t given time?

I agree with you on this Mike once a game is out of sight ie 3-4 goal lead bring them in and get them to go for it with license to thrill.
I would not advocate wholesale changes unless forced changes too.
A maximum of 3 at the start of any game as this can disrupt a teams continuity and flow big time.
Watch any friendly when there are 3 or more changes at half time normally the tempo drops and it all becomes a bit disjointed.

delbhoy

Have to disagree charlie we have struggled to breakteams down and left Leigh isolated , I think these players would take the burden of goals and give him support, most of all I just think they would give us some excitement. Roberts especially is not a project for as year down the line, he has played for Fulham I think it was in the premiership and is clearly a step above the development team, he needs to play now, we have him for eighteen months which is as long as you would expect to have a player this good anyway if we paid five million for him!

Charlie Saiz

Griffiths has scored less than a third of the goals scored this season.
The Midfield have over 40 between them.
We are not as reliant on the Striker playing the system we do this has taken the pressure of Griffiths which in turn has allowed him to focus more on his game.
Scoring goals has not been an issue this season.
Conceding them has however.

Another good post, and lovely to be reminded about the ‘passing’ 😉 of RFC. (No RIP to that fucking shower)
Fitting that it was a ‘Daily Rancid’ headline. GIRFUT.

However, the (later) posting of that fucking badge is OTT and should warrant a ‘Serious Health Hazard’ warning, if indeed it should be on here at all. Of course, I will defer to your superior judgement, Ralph and thank you immensely for what you bring us daily. (But no more huns, no more SMSM, please :-))

To Charlie S, I know you posted about Fan-ownership again in the last few days but I no longer have the post. I would relish the idea that I’ve held for many years of a ‘properly-run’ Celtic. I’d be happy to help in bringing this forward. It’s been mooted around several sites over the years, but clearly it needs to be organised somewhere centrally to then reach out to the wider Celtic family. If you’re intent on taking this forward, please let me know and we’ll see where it takes us.

Finally, some REAL shit flying around on Sunday’s (and other) comments. Time to cease that shit between Tims and agree to disagree on political and religious fronts. We’re not huns. Let’s ensure we don’t behave like them. Not EVER.

Yep pretty much why I think Total Ownership of Celtic non reliance on Investors is the way forward Monti.
We are unique as a Club our beginnings are and continue to be the backbone of our success.
When I say success I don’t just mean by Trophy Count or Bank Balance?
Our true success is a Club set up to do one thing.
Help others.
In doing this Celtic has grown into a hugely supported and followed Football Club.
We have numbers in the millions spread far and wide who all share one common theme.
The love of Celtic.
Most if not all Celtic fans take pride in how we came to exist?
We take more pride in how much the Celtic Foundation does than how great the Accounts may or may not appear every year and this is the fundamental difference between us as a fan base and those who come in to Invest.
These people are motivated by totally different feeling than your average Football fan.
As a result of this we rarely see eye to eye on anything?
I would like to se 100% fan ownership.
Each fan with the same amount of shares, each fan with a single vote.
I would like to see us the fanbase raise our own Capital for signings by means of a Transfer fund.
Give what you can afford when you can afford it.
I would like to see a return to a more Charitable Entity and not just paying lip service to a claim of being a charitable entity.
I would like to see a Team worthy of the jersey and capable of giving the big boys a bloody nose when it comes to a game in the big League and not just make up the numbers if and when we got there?
I would like to see a fully transparent fully accountable Board made up of qualified people from within our own fan base.
We have Billionaires,Millionaires,CEO’s,Financial people,Lawyers and Accountants all over the World who follow the Celtic.
We have intelligent ex players and Managers who know what Celtic needs on the Park.
We have all this out there we need to tap into this.
Let them put their CV’s forward let’s put a Board in place that is not only on the same page as their fellow Tims but fully accountable and fully transparent in every decision they make?
The fans are what make Celtic what it is not the other way about?
These money men do not get this.
To them you are simply a punter who pays X to get y.
His Job is to pay as little for Y so he can extract as much x out of you as he can whilst doing so.
That’s wrong in my eyes.
Brother Walfrid and the men who put this show on the road would most likely vomit at the way Football has gone in the modern era.
We are now in the process of waiting to see if the Greedy Men in well tailored suits are going to further take away the financial bonus of Champions League Football from us the “lesser” Clubs in the poorer Leagues in Europe.
I suggest we as a self owned, self sustaining model can and would survive with our very own, very unique approach to the problem of financing such a large Club as ours.
This all comes down to a numbers game.
1 How many of us are there actually out there?
2 How many are willing to take control of their own Club?
If the answer is indeed in the millions as has been suggested previously then yes it is possible.
If the answer is in the 10’s of thousands then it’s a no go.
My idea is to at least find out the facts.
Then to ask the question are you interested?
I’m not a wealthy person btw we survive on a modest budget and live day to day.
But even I could find £50 a year to put into Celtic to achieve the above.
Because I know every single £1 would be a £1 well spent.
A zero profit Celtic that puts EVERY PENNY back into the Club and it’s charitable obligation.
To me that’s a Celtic worth getting excited about.
I also believe it would attract the right kind of Sponsorship and publicity.
A model other Clubs would envy ultimately.
Fair pricing in line with day to day living and a decent squad out there would see a full Celtic Park every week.
It can be done it just needs the full support of the fans that’s all.
The current set up is putting folk off that much is obvious.
The Corporate greed, the bling and the fancy banners are all pointless if there is no one there to enjoy it.

Disappointed to hear Jonny Hayes of Aberdeen is to be sidelined for months due to injury.
Get well soon Jonny, HH!
