Celtic Diary Saturday September 26: Maybe We Are More Than A Club

These financial whizz kids don’t hang around. this morning someone rang me and asked if i’d been mis sold a TDi.

I’m here all week, try the veal etc.

Volkswagen proving you can’t trust anyone these days. In fact, I’m not even sure that Herbie was a true story any more.

Speaking of financial whizz kids..

Craig Gordon has spoken of his big regret when he moved from Hearts to Sunderland…

“When I left Hearts I didn’t take anything with me from the transfer fee or any signing-on fees. I left that with the club and it’s probably long gone.

“Maybe it would have been better had I taken it with me so I could put it back in now. I waived what I could have taken because I thought that was the right thing to do.

“The club did well by me. They gave me my chance to come through and showed a great deal of faith in me.

I can understand his altruism, but I’ll wager his wife has a special implement in the kitchen to hit him with every time the kids need new shoes.

“They put me on a good contract before I left, which was not long after it. I certainly didn’t feel the need to take any more than was necessary. I did say that I would rather leave it to the youth development which had helped me. To put it towards perhaps a few more players coming through.

“I’m annoyed to think that the youth academy maybe didn’t get that money. “Maybe it did go towards youth development, maybe it didn’t. I’ve no idea. But it would have been nice if a certain percentage of that had managed to filter through.

“They have brought through quite a number of young players recently and in some ways they are kind of fortunate in that the youth team of that time was especially good.

“Most of them have developed into top-flight players. Although a few have moved on, they are still playing at a reasonably high level.

“So to get that number of players coming through at the one time is impressive, even though they might have been forced to bring them through due to circumstances.

“For guys to come through and make top-level careers, there’s been a fair chunk who have done well.”

Well, i think that Craig deserves to know what happened to the cash, so we asked Vladimir Romanov, who was in charge at Tynecastle at the time…

Crig’s old club Hearts are the visitors today, and I’m quite sure they will be pleased to be remonded of their time under the Lithuanian banker, who did so much for the club, and for Scottish football in a David Murray kind of way.

So much so that Stan Thomson, a Hearts fan, had this done to his back;

whereas, of course, Romanov concentrated his efforts on a lower part of the supports anatomy.

Hearts have started well this season, currently in third place four points behind Celtic, who in turn lie five behind Aberdeen. With the dons travelling to Inverness today, and the wheels beginning to come of the MacInnes motorcade, then there is every chance that results today could go someway to restoring the natural order of things.

Judging by the defensive record of the Tynecastle side in the league thus far, thirteen conceded in eight games, it would appear that all Celtic have to do is keep the ball in the opposition half, occasionally firing one off in the general direction of the keeper.

Which is pretty much what we do in most games.

With Hearts being one of the better sides in the country, one would expect Ronny Deila to field his strongest available side, but then there’s Fenerbache to think about….

So, Craig Gordon is a given, well, he isn’t a Given, we got rid of Given when we decided Marshall was a better bet, what I mean is he is probably the only player guaranteed a start, if only to build up a relationship with the “new ” defence.

Mikael Lustig will be needed for Thursday, so Saidy Janko should get a chance to continue his good run at right back. Left back should be the Emilio IzaLarsson, and his mean streak.

Embedded image permalink

Emilio will help Jozo Simunovic to settle alongside the main man of the moment, Efe Ambrose. The coolest dude in town.

Ambrose has risen from the shadow of van Dijk and Denaayer to prove there is a defender in there after all, and with every game he is winning over fans that maybe thought that he was from the Willie Garner school of defending.

For younger readers think of , well, actually, there has never been another Willie Garner, a more than decent defender signed from Aberdeen who managed to score twice on his Celtic debut in a 3-1 defeat to St. Mirren. Both goals were for St. Mirren , which limited his career to just three appearances.

“I played for my boyhood idols that day, thought I had a long career at club. Two own goals decided that 🙂 [Lived the dream] Running down that tunnel, 60,000 in the ground, wearing the hoops.”

Mind you, he was in a side that did something no other Celtic team has ever done. The BBC Sportsnight Fivies, in 1981, when Celtic beat Southampton and a young Charlie Nicholas scored the winner.

From the Celtic Graves site…

25.11.1981
1st Round Watford 3- 0 (Nicholas, Crainie, McStay)
2nd Round Manchester United 2- 0 (Crainie 2)
Semi-Final Ipswich Town 3- 1 (Nicholas 2, Crainie)
Final Southampton 1- 0 (Nicholas)
Squad: Latchford McStay, Garner, Nicholas, Crainie, Weir
Coach: Jim Lumsden

There used to be a video kicking around of it, on the Celtic Underground site. If anyone can find it, i’d love to see it again. Peter Latchfords foul on Kevin Keegan is up there with anything Bertie Auld did.

Anyway, i do digress…

So , with Gordon, Janko, Simunovic , Ambrose, and Izaguirre at the back, and Boyata on hand as back up, the defence could be taking shape , perhaps even a little earlier than we hoped.

Scott Brown and Nir Biton are the usual first picks to play as cover, but maybe one of those can be rested, and allow Stefan Johansen to drop back a little and put some discipline back into his game. And if he doesn’t put in a disciplined and mature performance, he can have a rest on Thursday.

That would leave the creativity of Kris Commons, Tom Rogic and James Forrest a free hand to support Nadir Ciftci up front. We’ll need Griffiths on Thursday, and Ciftci will benefit from a couple more goals today against the fragile Edinburgh defence.

There is a sense of anticipation around the team now, as we have so many options, and the dodgy period, although costly to prestige and finance, seems to be over.

Funnily enough, speaking of dodgy periods, Christian Wulff, the Norwegian journalist who spotted Deila and said, long before any of us had heard of him, that Ronny would be a great fit for Celtic, has a couple of interesting points to make…

Celtic longest losing streak under Deila is 2 games. Only happened once; during his first month at the club against Legia away and home.

Longest run without a win under Deila is 4 (Maribor x2, Caley & Dundee in Aug 14). Also only time they’ve gone more than 2 games w/o win

Games against Aberdeen & Ajax only 2nd time in 2015 Celtic went two games without a win (St. Johnstone & Dundee U in March the first)

In total, Celtic has had a winless streak of more than 1 game on 6 different occasions under Deila, but only 3 times after Sep 14.

In the league, Celtic only twice gone two games without a win under Deila; Caley & Dundee (Aug 14) and Dundee U & Ross County (Dec 14)

Something for the bedwetters to think about.

Not just on the field, but off it as well, there’s a number of things that should give you a warm glow this morning.

Beaten 1967 European Cup finalists Inter Milan supporters had a protest the other day, and their Tifo suggests that they learned a few other things from the great Jock Stein;

which means…

Closer to home, but also on the continent, Celtic Graves deserve a massive round of applause for not only knowing the history, but helping to enshrine it…

Embedded image permalink

They’ve cleaned up the Prague grave of Johnny Madden, who played in Celtic’s first ever side. And it looks fantastic.

Even closer to home, there’s a nod to the memory of those who died or were displaced during the Great Hunger in nineteenth century Ireland when Celtic take the field today.

Celtic remembers The Great Hunger

From the official website…

TO once again recognise The Great Hunger, Celtic will be wearing the National Famine Memorial Day logo on the Hoops when they take to the field this Saturday for the match against Hearts.

Unquestionably, the Great Hunger was a transforming event in Ireland, which changed the demographic and cultural landscape forever.

Indeed, there is nothing else in the history of the Irish people that can be likened to the Great Hunger, either for its immediate impact, or its legacy of emigration, cultural loss and decline of the Irish language.

The Irish arts minister, Heather Humphreys has confirmed that the annual commemoration of the Famine, where one million people died, will take place this year in Newry, County Down, also on Saturday.

The Minister said the Famine affected all of the island of Ireland, and the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht in the Republic of Ireland and the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure in Northern Ireland  have been working with the council and other stakeholders to stage this memorial event.

Ms Humphreys said: “The annual Famine commemoration is a solemn tribute to those who suffered in the most appalling circumstances that prevailed during the Great Famine.

“While the scale of suffering was greater in some parts of Ireland than in others, all parts of the island suffered great loss of life and the destruction of families and communities through emigration.

“In this commemoration, we remember all those who suffered, those who died, those who survived but who lost family members, those who were forced to emigrate and those who remained in Ireland but suffered other forms of loss because of the Great Famine.”

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell added: “The origins of Celtic Football Club are inextricably linked to the Great Famine and it is right that we once again join in this commemoration.

“Celtic was formed by immigrants and to help people in real need, many whose families had escaped the devastation of the Great Famine.

“We should never forget the devastating impact this event had on the lives of so many millions of people and we are pleased again to play our part in this year’s memorial.”

Celtic FC Foundation have confirmed that the unique match issue shirts, to be signed by each player, will be auctioned in the coming days for charitable purposes, providing supporters with the opportunity to own a wonderful collectors’ item.

An announcement will be made next week, providing full details of the online auction.

My own paternal great great grandmother , with thirteen -or nine, versions vary within the family- took a rowing boat full of kids from Donegal to the west of Scotland to escape the horrors of the time, and doubtless many others have similar stories.

I’ve always wondered though, that with a bit more effort could she not have aimed for somewhere warmer ? Florida or something.

Thats not to disrespect any of the refugees, by the way, before anyone says anything.

To fully understand, or at least get a picture of the true disaster that was the famine, pick up a copy of this. It’s a hell of a read. And I use that word meaningfully.

Which , oddly enough, was never covered in our school….

Embedded image permalink

There will also be a bucket collection at the ground today.

In aid of HCPT , a charity who take kids with disabilities and from disadvantaged backgrounds on a pilgrimage to Lourdes every Easter.

Have a look for them, and chuck in a few quid. These wee charities don’t get the publicity they deserve some times, as they tend to be crowded out by the professional fundraisers.

Something else to make you feel good ?

Okay, link these pictures and tell me what the story is behind them……

Having criticised the Board in the past , I think it’s only fair to applaud them when they do something like the National Famine Memorial Day badge on the jersey , for today’s game.
A touch of class indeed .
And a reminder to us , of our roots and heritage that make us more than a football club. “A People ” , as Tommy Burns said.

Would someone tell Lustig and Izzy that they can cross a ball to a Celtic player, they as a pair had more than twice the amount of crosses that Forrest had, but couldn’t hit a barn door with a shotgun.
Most of anything that was good in the first half, came from Forrest.
Amazing that Forrest gets it when Griffiths was absolutely atrocious.

Charlie Saiz

Plenty crosses and chances flyiing into the box but to be fair to Hearts they defended them well.
Griffiths should have buried them first 30 minutes.
Poor finishing was the culprit today.

Devoy45

Why oh why can we get twenty shots, say ten on target and several corners and NOT score!!!??? We do this far too often and it’s a real flaw in our team. We could/should be 2 or 3 up at half time but at 0-0 anything can happen. It almost did in the last seconds.
Still a point gained on the sheep but it should have been three. At one point, we were queuing up to score. Ronny, this really needs fixed and soon.

There is something wrong here. It can’t be coincidental that it happens so often. Neither the attackers are wasteful/lacking in ability or the system is wrong.John Hartson said that in Scotland his granny could score a hateful for Celtic if she was the main striker. Are the strikers we have much better than say Adam Rooney or Billy McKay? It is like a boxer who pinpoints his opponent but does not have the knockout punch.Or maybe the system is wrong and we should play two attackers.I personally think it is a bit of both.

Charlie Saiz

You are aware it’s the system that dictates the amount of chances we create?
24 in one game is telling you it’s not the fucking system bud.
It’s the finishing or lack of that’s the issue.

Agreed that quality was lacking. Courage in movement and decision making was also lacking.

Previous Celtic teams have always had the quality and courage to get around and defeat the 12 other men on the pitch.
There was too much obvious impunity given to the Jam Farts at critical moments, and in critical positions.
The type has again been cast that the refs can be blind whenever they need to be.
Part of the reason that the establishment despised Lenny was that he would call them out on this. Our current Celtic management need to call them out on this – we were far too quiet after the Cup Semi Cheat-Out of last year. This gave the Establishment encouragement that they can get away with anything (again).

However with that being said, “the System” is way too predictable. Surprise is always a weapon, and we just don’t have it.

Charlie Saiz

I reckon Hearts were suprised how many chances we let slip playing the system.
You don’t create that many chances and possess the ball for that amount of time with a shite system bud.

Half_Fool

Reply to  Charlie Saiz

Hey Charlie, I’m not saying it is shite system. I am saying that it can be too predictable in its implementation, plus it depends on quick movement, direct quick forward passing and accurate finishing from “the one” within the danger area. See my other post which was meant to be a reply to Paul.
“The System” as we know can be highly effective -it can also be easily tamed if you know how to play against it – especially since it depends on pace, directness, quality and courageousness of heart and mind.

No. It was not good defending. We were not playing into the danger area quickly enough, allowing them time to cover. Plus the MIB continually would not pick up on their fouling in and around the penalty box – which I see that the MSM cannot see either, and apparently some fans too.

Sorry unfortunately couldn’t get a stream so can only go on statistics … 21 shots ??!! And people are complaining about the system ?? If we are playing this system and creating 21 opportunities … Then how is the system at fault ? Personnel maybe but the actual system ?? Plus I see that we played for a part of the second half with the 2 strikers that everyone wanted ? How did that work ? Were we more dangerous ? Did Ciftci stay up with Griff playing off him ? With the Sheep dropping points against a Christie inspired ICT … Obviously we could have made ground on that 5 point deficit … (Apart from cutting it down to 4 obviously!) Has the Sheeps bubble (bottle) finally gone ??

Going to the game and/or watching the game later would make a good start on all those questions.

Statistics can be smoke and mirrors. Shots only have value when they are at pace and accurate i.e. on target but not near the keeper. Too often we make the other keeper look good.

What is the count on the amount of times that Celtic players were impeaded/fouled today, but nothing was given by the officials? Is that in the official stats?

There were not enough quality shots coming from the danger area, and part of that is that our opponents have learned how easy it can be to snuff us out at times by fair means or foul. Restricting us to hopeful shots.
If we continue to play with one up front, the ball has to go into the danger area quicker, more directly and more often. Hopeful play or slow build-up play isn’t going to cut it; because it gives them that second or half-second that makes all the difference.

We kept another clean sheet…just saying like. It was a good workout for the Fenerbahce game as well. If we make half the chances we made today and take half of those, we’ll win…points mean prizes in the Europa.
Before the usual suspects appear weeping, gnashing teeth and wearing sackcloth and ashes I would like to remind them that I, and others here, lived through the disappointment of losing the European Cup Final to Feynoord…when we were all convinced that Feynoord were no better than St Mirren (the St Mirren team at that time were, shall we say, “strangers to a victory”). I remember everybody was 100% convinced we were definitely gonna win the big Cup for a second time, ‘cos “who are Feynoord?..they’re no an Inter Milan”. Well that part WAS true, they weren’t an Inter Milan. They were a team that attacked in groups, passing the ball in triangles and demonstrating the style of football that Holland was going to give the world.
So losing that match was as big a disappointment as any Celtic fan could have suffered….but we didn’t let our heads go down, or lambast the team…life, and Celtic, goes on.
Cannae wait until Thursday….3-1 Celtic. HH

And as we saw today, he took a bullet for the team….although without being picky I felt he could have slid in and got the ball..he always seems to go in upright in a clumsy fashion, like in the Barcelona game that we won 2-1.
Anyway he stopped them getting what would have been an undeserved victory.

Bear with me on this fellow tims. I kind of get the argument that 4-2-3-1 creates the chances. 5 midfielders and two full backs bombing up the wings. But it seems like it comes to nothing in most cases.

See yesterday, last season, VVD or Denyar would have got up the park and took the game by the throat. I really miss them.

I honestly couldn’t see why we didn’t start with two strikers. It was obvious what Hearts were going to do.

Been having a drink, sorry if it doesn’t make sense.

Gerry

Is it not part of Ronnie’s job to procure or develop a striker who can put the ball in the back of the net. Griffiths had scored in six straight league games (I think) so reliance on him, and him alone, will result in failure eventually. Who else is going to say to themself “Griffs is having a shocker, I need to step up”. Can you share the fucking load bhoys?!?!

Gerry, in the days of Big Jock I’m sure I read somewhere that he expected goals from ALL the outfield players. Which is fair enough. But out and out strikers who convert chances are a must.

The buck stops with our Scouting department and the Board.
You get what you pay for in Football and occasionally you get a gift like Larsson fo peanuts.
We have not had a decent target man at Celtic since Jan VoH left.
We had the exact same issues under Lenny yet he seemed to escape any criticism on these matters.
Hoopers goals have not been replaced yet whilst Griffiths is scoring regularly he’s not taking the same amount of chances Hooper did by comparison.
He had the 4th highest strike rate in Europe one Season ffs.
That aside we seem to be coping fine in front goal against Dundee which points to the finsher himself.
Griffiths should have buried at least 2 goals yesterday.
Forrest should have had a brace.
The game should have been over at half time anyone with a set of eyes should know this.
Sometimes in Football it just does not happen for you.
The Morton game under Lenny was a prime example.
Total domination not one shot rippled the net.
They go up the park and score.
It happens.

Morning Monti I dont know what they are looking at in terms of strikers at Celtic.
We have passed up on many who you think yep he could do a job?
Take Gestede at West Ham ..no being funny I spotted him 18 month ago at Balckburn he stood out in an instant and put Rhodes into the shadow.
At the time they laid out around £3m and he could have been picked up for a little more than that.
He’s the quintessential target man and EXACTLY what Lenny was looking for.
Were scouts even remotely aware he was available or did they just think na not for us?
Same with the LB situation I actually E Mailed Lenny about Fabian Johnson who at the time was playing for Hoffenheim this was before the World Cup btw his contract was in it’s last year and we could have snapped him up for less then £3m.
Again a fucking blind man could see the ability he has.
Yet for whatever reason we did not even enquire?
There’s an issue with scouting at Celtic.
But particularly in the Striking department.

Reply to  Charlie Saiz

Ironically Charlie inside Celtic Park they are hugely proud of their scouting dept.

Monti

Reply to  Charlie Saiz

Totally agree!
We should have signed Steven Fletcher from Hibs when an extra £500,000 – £1m would have got him for a fee of £4.5m.
As for the LB spot, why not play Tierney regularly, find out if he’s got the stuff?
These loan signings like Blackett frustrate me, there is no gain with these loans.
do you think we look at the Eastern European markets Charlie?
There must be gems hidden in Romania, Hungary or Bulgaria?

Also, nobody is getting on the end of these crosses. I thought that was one of the points of 4-2-3-1.
With the number of shots on and off target we get per game, we should be scoring 4-5 goals minimum. This is a big problem to be solved. 4-0 to us against Hearts would be the outcome yesterday given all those chances. It would be good to score more corners as well with Boyata, Ambrose, Bitton, Rogic up front.

Charlie Saiz

Thing is Devoy the same players faced Dundee.
They took 6 of the chances created.
Just how it goes bud sometimes…

Celtic 6 Dundee 0
Possession 68% – 32%
Shots 29 – 6
On Target 15 – 2

Celtic 0 Hearts 0
Possession 64% – 36%
Shots 24 – 5
On Target 5 – 0

It’s a funny old game….

This is like a re run of last Season in my eyes.
So many games we dominated early in the Season only to come away with results that never reflected the true nature of the game.
Every time it happened we had the same folk come out and give the Manager a doing.
The slightest slip and he’s getting it from some and to be honest I’m finding it quite tedious and boring now.
The System we deploy works the stats back that up that’s just a fact hence why the Manager believes in it and sticks by it.
It is also why a Great many other managers do too.
Anyone who watched the game yesterday must have seen a Celtic side dominate the first half and wondered how on earth it remained scoreless.
It had fuck all to do with crosses ,2 up,or Ronny Deilas aftershave.
Those entrusted to score simply failed to do so.
It’s really that simple it happens.
It always has so I suggest you deal with it or stick to playing FIFA because that’s the reality in sport in life actually if you want to take it further.
People have off days.
Luck desert you.
But to ignore all these factors so you can simply have a dig at the Manager serves no real purpose at all.
Go ask Leigh Griffiths what happened yesterday and I will guarantee you he will not say it was Deilas fault he spurned chances to add to his haul of 10 so far this Season.
Same goes for Forrest or anyone else who had a crack at goal yesterday it’s purely down to them at that moment and luck.
Some of you have a grievance with Deila that is beyond comprehension for the man has done fuck all but talk sense since he arrived.
He is developing a side and using a proven System the world over to do so.
I fear no matter what he does or what the end result is it really will never be good enough for some?
I think some are so deluded that follow Celtic they will never truly be happy.
Perhaps you should take a look at yourself and why that is?
Or as I suspect will be the case perhaps not.
Fenerbahçe up next…
Mon the hoops.

Charlie,
Disagree with you on one of your points here, I think two up would and does make a difference.
If you took a poll of 1,000 Celtic fans if they would rather have a Celtic side with one or two strikers in it, I believe 900+ would want us to play with two up front.

One up front would work if we had Diego Costa but we have Leigh Griffiths!

We had 2 up against Morton
We had 2 up against Clyde
We had 2 up against St Mirren and they pumped us 4-1.
You have 2 up then you have less in midfield where most games are won and lost.
You control the Midfield you control the game.
It’s down to taking your chance when it drops.
Most Celtic Supporters have never Managed a team.

Funkyy,
We have just drawn a blank, at home to a newly promoted side, a game we could have lost in the end…..and you say ” we kept a clean sheet again ” WTF are you talking about?
We should be fucking smashing teams like Hearts, come on man…shake off the malaise!!

It’s the consistency I can’t understand it’s like a roller coaster. It’s the same squad of players same skills same manager. Just two examples Dundee & Hearts.

I just think that’s fitba Jim.
It get’s worse as the quality level decreases ie the top sides with the top players tend to sustain a level for longer.
We are not buying top quality mate.
That’s the bottom line.

Sadly I think you have a point. It’s the quality.

Jim,
I actually think we have the making of really strong squad, there needs to be a bit of genuine quality and experience added though, it will bring the side together.

Charlie,
This Celtic is squad is far superior to anything else in Scotland, maybe it’s the tactics we deploy, whatever it is, we aren’t getting the best out of these guys.

Remember Charlie, Lawwell admitted it was a gamble on appointing Deila.

I don’t think it is Monti.
The gap last year closed Aberdeen had a great Season and it looks like it’s rolled into this going off their start.
They added to that side without losing any of it’s quality.
The gap in my opinion has closed slightly in that respect.
my feeling right now is we will win the League but by 10 points.
That’s going off where we are at now and where they are at also.

Aberdeen don’t have any real strength in depth tho Charlie, if they lost Taylor, Rooney or McGinn I think they would tail off dramatically.

Monti, I don’t think there is any doubt that player for player we have the best squad in Scotland and in depth.

I have visited quite a few forums & blogs since the start of the season to get other better informed opinions than mine. I have heard every argument. About the board, the management, each player, formation, transfers, strategy, training ground bust ups and everything else.

As I tried to say earlier, sometimes we play very decent football other times like yesterday extremely disappointing.

It was something Charlie mentioned that seemed to hit home. It’s all about the quality of players we have now. I try to big them up in my head and with my mates, but the truth is good quality players would not have so many drops in form or for so long.

Even in the hard times of the 90s when we were struggling to keep up with those cheating bassas (Inflated wages etc) we had players like McStay, Collins, Elliot. If only we could have those three in the team just now. That’s how far we have fallen. VVD was the last real quality guy we had. (Jason was a loannee so I have omitted him).

Jim,
I was going to do a lengthy post there but after a couple of seconds a question popped into my mind that simplifies things.

Q. During a game, what is Deila’s plan B?

Monti, Charlie, just tried to post lengythy(ish) comment directed at you two. But it seems to have disappeared into the ether. Prob. Ralph intercepted it and said ‘Aye that will be cuckoo, whit a load o shit’

Oh well back to the TSFM for me.

In the meantime I watched antiques roadshow where a Swiss Penknife was valued at £50-£80k. It wasn’t even a swiss army knife.

Just think, Scott Brown could afford one of those pen knives every fortnight. I despair.

Just watched the highlights of the Celtic game on sportscene, had enough chances to win three games.
Shocking finishing mixed with a bit of decent defending by the cousins of William.
That game should have been over by half time.

Monti, I know that we should have scored a barrowload against them..but we didnae, and I’m not gonna beat myself up about it. In any season that you go back over you’ll find a game or games that we dominated but just didn’t score, or score enough. I’m focusing on the next game, not the last one…and I don’t need to swear and get upset about what I can’t do anything about. Everybody on here has their own opinion and ideas, sometimes they agree, sometimes not. I bet if we beat Fenerbahce 3-1 you’ll be moaning about the goal they score.

Funkyy,
Lol.
I agree I’m a bit negative the now. I just see a lot wrong at the club funkyy, from boardroom Down to the team.
Trust me though, if we beat the Turks I will be genuinely delighted.
