Celtic Diary Wednesday September 16: Agenda ? What Agenda ?

Crisis hit Celts…Under fire Ronny.. Deila faces sack…

Here we go again.

Even Jeremy Corben is on record as saying “thank fuck I’m not Celtic manager, then they’d really have it in for me. ”

Celtic, Scotlands only surviving European representative, received their traditional amount of good wishes and support from the media as they flew out to Amsterdam.

Bet they were glad when the plane left the runway.

Celtic have hit a little dip in form, and the solution is to play through it.

Ronny wants to see everyone get behind the team, and help the players to get back on track.

Well, that’s what we do. And at least it’s not a home game next, where the punters are sometimes a little less patient. The away fans, especially in Europe, tend to offer a more vocal and consistent support. We’ll need it. The opening twenty minutes or so on Thursday promise to be a little nervy.

Ronny called for unity in an interview with Celtic TV, thus thwarting any editing which may have distorted the interview. something he might want to do a little more of.

“We have been in a bad period and have lost a lot of confidence. We need to get back on track again.

“We have to stay together and that is also the supporters.

“I know it is frustrating and a lot of people are very angry or sad about what is happening. That is the same as we are – but we have to go on.

“We really, really need the support of Celtic because that makes the players much better. To stay together now is so important.”

All together now….For it’s a grand old team to play for….

We’ve been through worse, and will do again, so let’s relax a little and get this show back on the road.

Ronny continued;

“We know what we are doing. We know what is going wrong and what we have to improve.

“We have conceded too many goals lately but that’s not just the defence — it’s the whole team.

“We play together and we have to defend together. We also have to sort out the set-plays to get that better.”

That’s fairly obvious.

Celtic have had bad periods before and we will come again,

Hang on, that’s what I said. He’s just saying what we want to hear!

( Sorry, just updating my MSM job application with a little anti-Ronnyism . )

Now we want to come out of it as quickly as possible.

“We have to turn this around. Every team loses games and every team has bad periods. It’s how you get out of them that’s most important.

“I’m working really hard, together with the players, to get back on track again.

“How’s the morale and mood? It has been a few tough weeks but you can’t go around feeling sorry for yourself.

“You have to move on and look at the next game. Only three weeks ago we were playing fantastic football and winning a lot of games.

“It’s not about the quality, it’s about rhythm and winning games again.”

Charlie mulgrew was left behind when the team flew out, much to the amusement of one of his children, as he has a thigh strain. John collins explained;

“Charlie is the only one not here

He has a thigh muscle injury, so we’re still waiting on confirmation of the scan result but it looks like it will be a few weeks.

“It is a blow, he’s an experienced player

He’s played in a lot of big games so we just hope he has a speedy recovery.”

Supporters will be debating as to whether or not this is a good thing, but at least any rampaging Ajax wingers won’t leave him in their slipstream, and a refreshed and rested Emilio Izaguirre can come back into the team.

We missed him against Aberdeen. The Honduran has the designated scapegoat recently, which is extremely unfair, and he could well silence a few critics in the Arena.

If mikael Lustig is fully fit, the full backs are sorted, it’s in the vcentre of defence we have a little problem.

Could we see the debut of Jozo Simunovic, or will Efe Ambrose line up with Deydrick Boyata ? Or will Boyata skip out of the hotel to indulge in his recently revealed shisha pipe fetish, second only to heroin addiction in the things you don’t want to discover about your heroes.

Seriously, it’s a fruit flavoured harmless recreation. The pipe, that is, not Boyata.

Or will it be Ambrose and Simunovic. The more experienced Nigerian would be a better bet than the terrified Belgian, but the latter needs a good game to get his own confidence back.

 Collins threw in his opinion;

The team has not been picked but Jozo trained very well and there’s every chance he could get his debut.

“It’s the start of a group and it’s going to be a tough challenge.

“Ajax are a good young team

I watched their Champions League qualifiers and they were very unlucky not to qualify.

“They are a great club with a great history, so it’s going to be a wonderful challenge for us.

“We are looking for a reaction (from the Aberdeen game), a good performance, but we are going into a different environment and it’s going to be a great challenge for the players, a new challenge.

“We don’t play teams like Ajax every week, they have a lot of new players, doing very well and only lost their first points at the weekend in a 2-2 draw.

“It is another game, another tournament, and I thought we did fairly well in it last season getting out the group stages, so we want to do exactly the same this season.

“We won’t be favourites, it will be a tough match but one we feel we can go and win.

“I’m very excited.

Excited, I suppose, is one way of describing how most of us feel about the prospect of facing an in form and confident team when our players are reminiscent  of a frightened puppy when a truck goes past.

Ajax captain Davy Klaasen reminded us that there is also pressure on his side;

The Europa League kicks off against Celtic. I have nothing but good memories of Celtic,” Klaassen told the official Ajax website.

“It’s a beautiful draw. It’s a shame that we are not in the Champions League, but the Europa League is great as well.

“Normally, we should be able to survive the group stages. I don’t know too much about Molde. Everybody will expect them to finish last in the group. Fenerbahce are really strong in my opinion, but so are we and Celtic.

“We will have to collect most of our points at home, starting on Thursday. I hope we can get the best out of ourselves.”

That last sentence shows that they are a little nervous themselves.

Perhaps no-one has shown them this, from Goal.com’s match preview.

The Bhoys are winless in their last five Europa League matches and have not won any of their 10 away matches in the competition, losing four and drawing six.

Against Aberdeen, there was always a feeling that the game, the most difficult fixture in the domestic calendar, against a side who are only playing once a week, flying high with confidence due to a perfect start to their campaign , would be a problem for Celtic. Too often we examine ourselves and our own failings before giving any credit to the opposition.

They may not have entirely deserved the win, but it wasn’t a surprise when it came. Instaed of wondering why our defence lost another late goal, praise may have to be given to the dons for keeping going in search of a winner, when other teams may have settled for the point.

Tomorrow night is an important game, but in a six match league format, it’s not a be all and end all. Anything from the game would be a bonus, and that includes a good performance to help the players get back into their stride.

So, ronny’s right.

Let’s get behind the team, and not the couch.

I was in Glasgow and Dunoon again yesterday, and whilst waiting for a train at Central station, i nipped outside for a livener at the Toby Jug.

Yet again, whilst standing outside , pint in one hand, fag in the other, a young man , short on teeth and hygiene, asked me for “some spare change to get a drink. “

At least he was honest, and I wondered where spare change would get you a drink these days.

My reply, was equally honest. I held my drink up and told him he wouldn’t enjoy it. He moved on. Every time I go to Glasgow someone is asking me for money. What has happened to the place ?

Oh, and that bloody woman on the train who was doing the crossword and reading out each clue to her pal.

Old people should be shot at birth.

Here’s a curious picture. what’s the story behind it ?

I take it the picture is the build up to the 85 cup final (100th Scottish Cup final) with Danny and Hamish McAlpine.
By the way Ralph, was the guy who tried to relieve you of your hard earned a season ticket holder? Time to do damage to those cunts at the Daily Retard, the club should ban the scum forever and the fans should cause mayhem at their offices.

‘Too often we examine ourselves and our own failings before giving any credit to the opposition.’ Totally agree.

Since Saturday’s disappointment there have been plenty of comments on this site whether the manager, coaching staff and team are any use – the most disgruntled of the support are calling for the manager’s head as well as that of the Chief Executive and the rest of the board. There is an interesting contrast to be drawn with season 1967-68; after the first seven games Celtic had lost one (to them) and drawn one and were out of the European Cup after the first round. How many Celtic fans then do we suppose were moaning about the useless team and manager? We see the same in 1969-70 when Celtic had lost two, drawn one of their first seven games. In both cases of course Celtic went on to win the league. So whilst the loss to Aberdeen and Malmo are undoubtedly both very annoying to say the least and on that everyone can agree, a bit of proportion is needed: two defeats does not a disaster make.

Jrw,
I’m more interested in looking at what the problems are with our club/team/manager than back slapping teams who beat us.
Personally I’m a bad loser by nature, but I understand the need to call it how it is when deservedly beaten.

On to more pressing issues now, Peter Lawwell and the board are not helping Deila, Deila does not help himself and a number of our players are shite.

So do we ask hard questions of the board, or sit back with a prawn sandwich and accept any old shite we are witnessing?

In my opinion and I think it speaks for a number of Celtic supporters, 1) we have a flawed transfer model that isn’t leaving us stronger on the park at the start of each season.
2) We have a manager who is out of his depth.
3) This board are treating the support with contempt and are complacent in their transfer dealings.
4) If Dermot Desmond doesn’t want to put a team on the park with a few stars in it to fill the stadium, then sell the fuck up and give it to someone who wants to spend the required to get us at the top table each season.

This reaction isn’t knee jerk because we lost to Aberdeen, it is a reaction to only qualifying for 2 out of the last 7 group stages, it is a reaction to being beaten in cup finals by Kilmarnock or semi finals by Hearts and the mighty Inverness ( not all in Deila’s time I know) we are now losing and have been losing big games that matter for years now.
We finally produce a left back in young Tierney, give him a four year deal then what do we do, sign Blackett from man utd?? What for? Just play Tierney for fuck sake.
We brought in Denayer, had a great season then fucked off, what is the point of this madness?

We keep on hearing about us being this big club with a worldwide support and we don’t have any debt…blah de fucking blah….
Celtic should be measured against European Champions league qualification, results and performances, most of us have been with Celtic through the good and the bad, and proud to have been.

It is time for this board and CEO to go, with this manager and a fair few players.

It’s a revolution that is required, change required as soon as possible.

Dermot Desmond is a billionaire, I believe there is At least one other on our board with similar wealth….Remember that when the PA announcer say’s ” substitution for Celtic, on is Efe Ambrose, Dedryck Boyata and Anthony Stokes “!

Celtic – a club who likes to tell it’s support we are like no other ”

Aye ok then.

Monti,
no 4 on your list is the most important issue.
We don’t expect to win CL , but imagine a club regularly winning it’s league , planned for , and made strong enough to cope with the Maribors ,Malmos and Kazakhs of this world , ( the odd slip up excepted).
Imagine the regularly strong income, leading to the sustenance of that strong team , and being recognized through-out Europe as a strong CL regular , in turn attracting strong level of player .
The frustrating thing is that this is within the grasp of this club ,if our leader , our Chief ,has the ambition , intent required.
A warning , if we don’t see this opportunity SOMEONE else might,(Ashley) , in the not too distant future .
A lot of complacent thinking has been/ is going on.
Agree with your complete post.

Just look what can be done, Bate Borisov, those giants of European football with a ground capacity of 13,000 and a budget of around £10m a year, yet their record would put us to shame.
Do you think it would make sense to have someone from Celtic study this lot to see where we are going wrong.

Reply to  andybhoy

Problem is andybhoy ,

we’ve been half-heartedly ” fannying about” in our attempts at this .
No real intent re-DD.
More interested in getting a blue team back to restore the OF status quo. That , I’m afraid , is the beginning and end of his ambition/interest in Celtic.
Your own post touched on this always being our problem, half-hearted.
As you say , we won EC once , because we won it by surprise , almost by accident , so failed to follow it up.
Ajax & Bayern carefully planned their EC wins
That was the main reason they won 3 in a row each, to our 1. We hoped ; they planned.
As you say , had the club had a vision and backed Stein accordingly, who knows what could have been achieved.
I sometimes think as a club we always lack confidence.
How many ,on Celtic blogs , are quick to tell us to accept where we are , or we’ll end up like rangers(refuse to give them a capital R)
Absolute nonsense !
Theirs was a very special basket case .
The fact that whole saga is still running and in the hands of the police(refuse to give them a capital P) shows this.
Making the potential comparison is scare-mongering by the board.
I do think that many of our own fans don’t appreciate the true immense potential of this club.
How many , in the Eighties , would have believed we could fill 60,000 stadium every game?
If you think small you’ll stay small, and you’ll only be big if you think big .

JPM.
All through the late 70’s and 80’s I always maintained that the Park should always be packed to the rafters and given a bit of faith and vision it would have been. We always seemed to be one or two players short of going that wee bit extra to succeed in Europe, now, god knows. I’m not looking to get out of the CL group phases, simply to be in them, but as you say, build a foundation that would give us the ability to play football the Glasgow Celtic way instead of all this great talk but no substance that we are witnessing at the moment.
This strategy is doing long term damage to the club and those who don’t see that, need to wake up.

That period in Celtic’s history will go down as the exception rather than the norm. It should also be said that with proper investment during that period, Celtic should have won the European Cup on three or four occasions rather than our single triumph in Lisbon.
Oh and yes, the team and management got it in the neck for Milan if my memory serves me right.
Different era and different rules.

Sorry.

There is no comparison between 67/68 699/70 and now.

In two of the above years, Celtic had aside capable of reaching, and on one occasion, winning the European Cup.

At the present time I have better chance of winning the euro lottery than Celtic of today’s standard have of winning a European trophy.

We will get behind the team but for god sake give us something to shout about oh and is there any team in Europe with a worse away record than us it’s humiliating now, good to see the two Manchester teams getting beat I luv it,please oh please Celtic prove me wrong and for god sake just go for it just once go for it

Franco Baresi,
It”s the entire defence that is causing the damage, plus the need for a real top striker.
Looking forward to seeing Simunovic in the Hoops but we badly need someone to partner him, Boyata is either shite or lacking in confidence, but he isn’t controlling his position.

My faith in this team is broken, that pisses me off!
Craig Gordon should also be coming out more, watching the second goal from Saturday time and time again, it is clear Gordon should have sprinted out and caught or punched it, at the end of the day he is an experienced player who should have made a quicker decision.

In the past fours years we have won the league each year, won two Scottish Cups and one league cup while competing in Europe we have been in the champions League and Europe league group stages. Outside some dubious refereeing our domestic return would have been much better. Our average attendance at home games has been 45000 2010, 50000 2011/12, 46000 2012/13, 47000 2013/14 and 44000 last year. Can we do better yes we can, can we do better within our means and avoid a financial meltdown? That’s another question. This return is very good for any club in any country and we really need to understand that Scottish football has been overtaken by other leagues with more money and more recognizable global names. We are unable to afford the kind of players that would win us the Champions league due to lack of TV interest in Scottish football, which is really lack of viewers outside Scotland. Do we really want to see some egotistical billionaire from wherever come in and do the moonbeams route? Now could the Board do better, yes I think they could and I think they have built a solid foundation for that. I’m willing to give Delia one more season and lets see how we do this season. Wholesale sacking of the board or asking the current owner to sell or sacking the manager – sounds a bit shrill

Jrw agree with everything you said celtic fans need to toughen up we accept dross and try to justify it for Feck sake no CL again when will celtic fans realise lost cups no cl when done are gone forever you can never make up for it wish some celtic fans would toughen up don’t accept 2nd best am all for the management team players and board getting ridiculed when deserved celtic park will be a ghost town very very soon

BroxburnBhoy

Questions for Drewster – what top manager do you have in mind? What owner do you have in mind who will spend up to 300M like at Chelsea for 1 Champions League and employ one of the best managers in the world? What top players do you have in mind who will play in Scotland for the money on offer? What do you mean second best? We are clearly the best in Scotland by a mile do you mean second best in Europe? I really really want to win the Champions League and be in the group stages every year. I really want to win the treble every year. I’d love to win the World Club Championship and yet we all know this takes enormous spending power within the fair play rules. Spending power we are unlikely to have. We are stretched to win a domestic treble – always have been even under Jock Stein. This is someone other than accepting second best, its accepting times have changed, the economics of football have changed and then its a job for the Board to do a better job than today in adjusting to that and coming up with ways to attract more people and investment.

Conceding too many goals, team isn’t defending as a team so Ronnie says. The team ain’t scoring enough goals so what is his team doing? Ronnie IMO isn’t able to get us to the CL, Europa league is best we can hope for. Why isn’t Commons getting a game, he along with Grif will score goals so why isn’t he playing? Losing faith in Ronnie, give him to Xmas for a drastic improvement or give his replacement a bit of time for CL I hope qualifying next year.

Hi Monti, I must say I disagree with your comments about Dermot Desmond. Because he’s a wealthy man do you expect him to throw money at Celtic? He’s a shareholder, albeit a major if not majority shareholder. He already invested in Celtic when he bought his shares, end of. I too am a shareholder, albeit a minority shareholder, and irrespective of my financial position, would be annoyed if someone was telling me what I should do with my money. Celtic doesn’t have a sugar daddy, we’re not bankrolled by anybody. We, the supporters, own the club and we have to have a successful business model that maintains the club. We have been doing that and we will probably continue to do it like that well into the future. If someone comes along and wishes to donate Celtic 50 million pounds then grand, but we shouldn’t be demanding that wealthy shareholders should be doing it. Hail hail.

Successful… beg to differ.
This current strategy is slowly strangling the club and if it is to continue, it will possibly bring it to its knees.
Investment is not the issue, it’s the way it’s being applied.
Gambling on a rookie manager, buying the ‘cheaper option’, may look good in the first years accounts, but the problems and losses increase the further you go with this poor strategy.

Hi Bigbananafeet,
Not got an issue with you disagreeing with me, however I do feel DD could go the extra mile to lift the team and the club.
If you think Celtic are in a healthy state on the park then I would ask you to look deeper.

If I was a billionaire like Desmond, we would have a team on the park that would be a match for any side in Europe.

The main stand would be built to match the rest of our stadium and it would be bursting for every home game.

It’s all about the team and us, the support!

Desmond and Lawwell are bringing the club down!

Devoy45

Celtic is in this position solely because of where we play. we can’t compete with the television rights of our wealthy neighbours and with our European competitors (like Ajax) We can afford players that will win us our league but not compete in Europe. That doesn’t explain Legia Warsaw, Maribor or Malmo but it does explain why we can’t afford the very best international players. Why is it Lawwell’s or Ronny’s fault that Forster,Ledley, Wanyama or Van Dijk don’t want to remain at the club? Why is it Lawwell’s or Ronny’s fault that clubs with nowhere near our history or pedigree can still pay £50,000 and upward per week. We can’t even compete with the English Championship for salaries. In world capitalism, our club is surviving the only way it can.
We have won four league titles in a row and that (four or more in a row) has only been done 7 times since 1888, 4 times by Celtic.
Ronny won a double in his first year and was cheated out of a treble. I think we have improved in Europe and will continue to improve as our young players get more experience. If I was in Ronny’s shoes I would begin to wonder how spoiled and fickle Celtic fans can be. Let’s just wait and see. Let’s support Ronny and bhoys in Amsterdam and beyond and decide in May what we need to do next.
As a Celtic supporter aged 66 who has seen good times and bad, I say be canny. Calm doon. Time reveals all. I believe if we keep faith with Ronny and this team we will be rewarded. Nor will I be a stooge or mouthpiece of the MSM.
I don’t think we will win tomorrow but I do think we will advance to the knock-out stages like we did last year.
I was anti-Ronny and have been proved wrong. I think supporting Ronny will prove me right this time. Give the young man time to achieve his goals.

It’s easy to loudly support your team when it’s winning, but the true test is when they are going through a bad patch. We don’t have the money that English teams have..Van Dyke’s on 45,000 pounds a week (instead of 9,000 at Celtic. In two years he’ll be sold to Man Utd, Arsenal, or Chelsea for about 40-50 million and he’ll be getting 70-80 grand a week. That’s what we’re up against, that’s the real challenge facing us. How do we get players to come to us and how do we keep hold of them? We also have a (h)unbiased press who continually try to sell any of our players who is playing well, or trying to muck rake and print any scandalous story about our players. As Ralph pointed out, not a word of support given to Scotland’s only representative in Europe, only negative stories like today’s “It’s a Conspiracy” headline. A few wee lines about an ex-sevco director confirming that his ex club is built on bigotry and is “emotionally attached” to the police…no follow up on that tasty morsel. We need to close ranks, bite the bullet and ride this storm out. I still believe we’ll come good and put this behind us….hopefully starting tomorrow. HH.

Monti on opening your eyes, the same might be said about those who think we are in the same financial and therefore football league and Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester United. If I were a billionaire I would throw money at Celtic. I’m not of course and billionaires become billionaires by knowing a lot about investing money. Pretend billionaires brought down the huns by poor financial decisions driven by an arrogant sense of invincibility at all costs. Their chase for the Champions league and 9 in a row killed them off. We have solid financials, a real billionaire who I’m sure will never allow us to go to the wall and we are by far at least for 4 seasons in a row the best team in Scotland. Can we do better yes we can and we do need some better vision from the board and a financial plan that we can afford to match. Under any new scenario, we simply cannot get the best managers and best players playing in the SPL in Scotland and that will severely hamper our European aspirations. Of course we can continue to believe that if Desmond sold out ( to whom ) and Lawell left, things would be much better. The question is would they? unless we find some ridiculously rich oligarch or oil sheik with 300M to burn with a great love for Scottish football and Celtic we are where we are and I agree we can and must do better.

Why will people insist on claiming anyone is asking us to compete with England ,Spain , Germany , Italy ? Very convenient deflective tac-tic ?
We are expecting ,however , to compete with the Maccabi Tel-Aviv , Zagreb , Malmo , Maribor , Bate’s of this world .
There’s your CL group stage competition , there’s your sustainable business model .
Frankly , if we can’t compete with those ,( and we all know we can ,financially ) then it really is time to take that top tier off and “accept we are where we are”.

Klinsmann is an interesting option but unproven at club level and I’d imagine he is earning a fortune as head coach of the US. Strachan is in the middle of a qualifying campaign just now and I can see him staying on for the inevitable failure of a World Cup campaign. I don’t even know if he’d want to come back either. Klopp’s well out of our league. He could walk into any job in world football.
At least you’ve thought about it though.

You know what’s annoying me just now? Not that we can’t afford top notchers, or that we sell our best players.

But that the players we have for right or for wrong, are not performing to their best ability. I don’t know why this is so, there are lots of explanations put forth, from the Manager, the tactics, the formation, the changing room etc. But we could do so much better with what we have. I hope it kicks in tomorrow night. I really do.

Or Real the Spanish cup? No?

Charlie Diaz,

I believe everyone on here is a Tim , and only wants what’s best for Celtic ; even if we disagree on how to get there.
It’s a sign of a healthy and open fan mind set to have debate , even disagreement , it’s part of what we’re all about.
Irrelevant to our differing views re- the club going forward , I’m confident every poster on here tonight will be doing somersaults if we win tomorrow, ( I know I will).
That won’t change my views on the long term re- the clubs ambitions.
If however , Deila turned it all around and brought long term success home and in Europe ,again I think every poster on here would be overjoyed .
It’s not a case of being proved right or wrong, as that would be putting ones own ego ahead of the love for the club.
So there’s no call for aggressive noises of “shoving down their fucking throats”.
We’re all Celtic fans and supposed to be on the same side, not “Deadheads” mk2.
In short , a Celtic win tomorrow won’t be “shoving” anything down my “fucking throat”, but will in fact ,make my/our week.

I don’t go for the we are all the same bullshit pal.
There are a growing number who follow Celtic who are only to eager to put the boot in to the team/player/manager/board (apply any one on any given day) who are seldom happy unless we have just sauntered to a 4-0 going on 10-0 stroll in the Park.
I think too many have been spoiled by success and take far too much for granted being Celtic fans.
No game in my book is a given,no points are in the bag,Europe is certainly not a certainty and we as a Club are nowhere near the Financial Levels of those Clubs we aspire to meet and beat in Europe.
We are financially hamstrung in a poorly funded ,average level domestic League.
When we do attempt to step up that step is far greater than it used to be.
To hear Celtic fans scoff at winning a treble is to me a fucking joke given the scarcity of trebles in our long history another certainly would not go amiss.
After all far better Celtic sides under far better Managers have failed to lift them.
Our priority is winning the League.
Deila did that he also did that by the 15 points some of us stated he would last Season when all hell was breaking loose in here and elsewhere.
He lifted a League Cup yep it means fuck all in the big scheme of things on it’s own but without it there is no treble.
I personally do not give two fucks what Barca and Bayern fans think about our Domestic situation or any other Clubs fans..apart from those within our own domestic League obviously as they like us are in them to win them.
We have the Richest League in world football on our doorstep, our biggest rivals (and biggest cash generator for over a Century)decided to kill themselves chasing moonbeams and pipe dreams this totally fucked our Financial plans up whether the bitter among us choose to admit it or not we have lost guaranteed millions in the last 4 yeas or so and had to totally change our way of approaching things.
All of these things have had a cumulative effect on Celtic Fc.
That effect has seen us restrict our spending, pay off our excessive overdraft and effectively draw our belt in to suit.
We went from employing seious Managers in O’Neil and Strachan to taking a risk on Mowbray to taking an even bigger risk on a greenhorn like Lenny.
Now we have a young Manager from a smaller League with modern ideas and a
clear vision of how he wants us to approach the game.
NOTHING Ronny Deila has stated about that has been negative in my mind.
It took the best part of 5 month for his plan to start taking shape, results were up and down but in the end he and this side delivered 2 trophies and just missed out on 3.
They stood toe to toe with Inter over 2 legs poving beyond any doubt the System and the players were able to work at the higher level we strive to be at.
This Season we have started slow, changes in personnel have caused us issues especially in defence but I stress this is only the beginning of the Season.
I suggest those papping their gums at least wait a few weeks till we know where we are at before they sharpen their knives because to me at least they are coming across not very well.
The term Green Huns is a phrase I hate but some are coming close to acting like this.

That’s rich coming from a fan who thinks Klopp or Klinsmen would be interested in the Celtic job.
Your deluded Monti and a good example of what I am talking about.
Players who come to Celtic like Van Dijk and Wanyama already have an eye on England when they sign.
They use our League and our Club to acclimatise to the British game.
Bitton no doubt will be next then Boyata then Janko and so on.
We are where we are until the environment where we ply our trade changes ie der Hun comes back into the equation and TV Deals get back to a decent level then so it will stay.
We buy we sell we make up the shortfall and whilst we do the Co-Op debt gets reduced and big Pete lifts his Bonus.
This is how it its.
Only difference this time is they laid out £5m on a prospect.
Defence is where the issue lies so they tried to resolve that with Simunovic and Blackett.
They also tried to sign Michu.
Money was the issue he’s on 30k a week.
That’s £1.5m a year in wages in case you are wondering.

You are missing the point on so many levels.
Ronny was given the pre season that he wanted ie no travelling and he was backed in bringing in Boyata, Ciftci, etc.
The whole idea of pre season was to gain entry to the CL and having performed well in Azerbaijain and gaining the result required, then putting ourselves into dreamland in the first 15 minutes against Malmo we conspired to fuck it up in the most alarming way.
He has a plan A, but when he has to make a simple decision like holding on to a comfortable or even slender lead, the guy has the knack of throwing away all the good work that went into getting there in the first place, with strange substitutions and players playing out of position. He has no plan B and he doesn’t have the ability to motivate players in any shape or form and doesn’t seem to be learning any lessons.

4-2-3-1 Is the best Formation for Europe especially in an away tie.
Hence the Reason Deila has opted to play it as our primary Formation.
Don’t know why fans are struggling with the concept myself?
It beats chopping and changing every time a tough tie comes up as playes have to adjust accordingly.
Makes more sense to drill them every week until it becomes second nature and every one knows their job.

My preferred Formation is 3-5-2 btw in case your wondering.
But it has it’s limitations for a Club like ours who spend little on players.

Roy Keane said last week ” Celtic should be in the Champions league every year ”

That’s what I’m talking about……

What these clowns on the board don’t understand, is that if they went the extra mile, brought in a higher class of player in key areas, we might just make these group stages.
But they are only interested in selling our best players!

Charlie Saiz

Reply to  Monti

Roy Keane is a bam.
The rest I agree with however this Board seem obssessed with the Zero Debt Mantra.
Best laugh is they came out with than knowing we still owed the Co-op £14m at the time.
We have to sell to balance the books Monti.
The loss of the O/F Games over the past 3 year has probably put a good
£20m dent in the books truth be told.

Charlie Saiz

Reply to  Charlie Saiz

Btw on the Co-Op Loan they only reason it was mentioned last year is because they re negotiated the Ovedraft which was due to be settled up IN FULL by July 2019.
That’s £14.4m that had to be found in 3 years.
Hence the reason we have to sell our best every window to make up the shortfall.
The devil as they say is in the detail.

Charlie,
I disagree with you about Keane, This man was one of the best midfielders in the games history, world class and would have walked into any side in Europe in his career.
I think Keane rubs people up but so what, the game is full of people with opinions and Keane gives his.

If we are still due the co-op 14m why does DD not just dip into his pocket and pay it and let Celtic keep that 14m in the bank? I would.

Charlie Saiz

DD is a billionaire because he’s not led by his heart Monti.
He approaches business with his head.
This is the fallout from the MON era I believe when our approach was a wee bit more cavalier to Finances.
You only have to look to the South Side to see where that can lead you.
Fans like you will never be happy bud we spend £6m on a player this year you will want £10m spent in 2 years.
No thought for the wages etc that come with these types.
Makes moe Financial sense to do it how we are in the current situation.
Though it pains me to say it that’s how it is.
Who knows what will happen when the blues brothers appear?

If the pushed the boat out showed a wee bit of ambition and brought in a few players of a higher standard we would be in the CL it’s their fault were not their.
Look at the squad Monti how many players in are celtic class ?
We have no more players to sell now either to balance books and attendances are falling by the week more revenue lost why ?

Charlie,
You say we owe the co-op 14m? But it’s my understanding that this is an overdraft facility that hasn’t been used so how do we owe them that figure?
Let’s say we did owe them the 14m, two years in a row we have lost out on a minimum 30-40m in Champions league income by not qualifying.

Charlie, if I was a billionaire like Desmond I would clear our debt and put players on the park who will excite the fans enough to attend the games and fill the stadium.
Are we to believe there is no one out there who would take over from Desmond and get serious about where we are going?
I don’t ever want Celtic to be reckless Charlie, but this is a massive club we follow and I think we are underachieving.
I always like to hear the Lisbon Lions talking about the club and Bertie Auld is always driving the ‘ entertain ‘ aspect of the team…….are you entertained Charlie? With what you are watching in this current side?

We need a Di Canio,a Larsson or a Lubo…

The fans deserve it, build it and they will come!

Why would you e negotiate a Loan that does not exist and why would that non existent Loan need paying in full by July 2019 as stated in the last full set of Accounts?
There was no mention of it because it was being serviced as agreed and these Loans only come up in their final year of completion.
It is an Overdraft Facility which we curently owed (at time of release £14.4m).
No matter what you call it it is borrowing on a large AGREED scale.

For obvious reasons the Celtic management and players are getting it big time all over the blogosphere. I don’t know how much they read what fans are saying but it can only have one of two effects.

They either grit their teeth and become very determined to prove the doubters wrong, or, they will collapse in a heap with their confidence shot to bits.

http://cdn.celticfc.net/assets/downloads/Celtic_Report_2014.pdf
• New long term bank facility agreement (Page 1)
(v) Financial Risk (Page 10)
At 30 June 2014, the Group has access to a debt facility
of £32.44m provided by the Co-operative Bank plc. The
composition and utilisation of the debt is outlined at Notes 24
and 29 to the Financial Statements. Given the current economic
climate the availability and utilisation of such facilities is closely
monitored.
The Group is exposed to financial risk through its financial assets
and liabilities. The key financial risk is that the proceeds from
financial assets are not sufficient to fund the obligations arising
from liabilities as they fall due. The most important components
of financial risk are interest rate risk, currency risk, credit risk,
liquidity risk, cash flow risk and price risk. Due to the nature
of the Group’s business the financial risks that the Directors
consider particularly relevant to the Company are credit risk,
interest risk, currency risk and liquidity risk.
Further information is provided in Note 29 to the Financial
Statements as to how the Group addresses these risks.
FINANCE INCOME & COSTS (page 12)
The finance costs for the year to 30 June 2014 of £0.72m
(2013: £0.72m) reflects interest due on the Company’s borrowing
facilities with the Co-operative Bank
NON CURRENT LIABILITIES *Loans* (page 12)
The increase in non-current liabilities from 30 June 2013 of £0.55m
to £15.23m is largely as a result of the allocation of the onerous
lease and dilapidations provisions which are greater than one year,
offset by a decrease in the term loan and also in deferred income
due after more than one year.
CURRENT LIABILITIES (page 12)
The increase in trade and other payables and in provisions from
30 June 2013 of £1.91m to £17.69m includes current borrowings
and largely reflects the uplift in amounts payable in respect of
trade creditors offset by a reduction in accrued expenditure,
together with an increase in the payments due under the
Company’s bonus scheme.
BANK FACILITIES **IMPORTANT** (Page 13)
The banking facilities of the Group and Company for the year end
30 June 2014 are described in notes 24 and 29.
Following a review of potential future banking facility requirements,
(1)the Company entered into a new lending agreement with the
Co-operative Bank effective as of 30 August 2014.
(2)This new agreement has a combined borrowing facility of £20.40m which consists of
(a) a £6.00m revolving credit facility and
(b) £14.40m in longterm loans.
The revolving credit facility will bear interest at base rate
plus 1.00% and will reduce by £0.50m after year one and a further
£0.50m after year two. The facility will be repaid or reviewed after
three years.
The long term loans will bear interest at London Inter-Bank Offered
Rate plus 1.125%. The loans are floating rate loans and therefore
expose the Group to cash flow risk. The loans are repayable in equal quarterly instalments of £0.05m from the commencement date until
(c)full repayment of £12.40m in July 2019.
The Group has the option to repay the loans earlier than these dates without penalty.
(d)The borrowing facility will continue to be secured over Celtic Park, land adjoining the stadium and at Westhorn and Lennoxtown.
So in effect the Club has
1 A new LOAN AGREEMENT
2 A COMBINED TOTAL OF £20.4M
Of which :
A – £6M IS A REVOLVING CREDIT FACILITY ie for buying PLayers etc
B – £14.4M IN OUTSTANDING LONG TERM LOANS
Which is due to be paid in full by:
C JULY 2019.
Non Current Liabilities are Loans which do not appear on Annual Returns until their final year (in this case July 2019)however since they were renegotiated they had to be brought up in this Annual Report.
FACT.
