Celtic Diary Wednesday June 3: So, What Shall We Do On Deadline Day ?

Deyedrick Boyata, who signed for Celtic yesterday, may turn out to be a class act. Or , he may not.

New signing Dedryck Boyata is delighted to be at Celtic

But what is significant is that the club are not hanging around this summer. If we want someone, and he wants to come, then the business is getting done. Instead of waiting until the end of summer to save a month or two’s wages.

Which means we’ll have nothing to do on deadline day, which in turn is another reason to dump sky. I’ve now cancelled the whole package, after calling a family meeting. By the way, if you need to call a family meeting, simply turn of the internet and wait in the room where the router is.

See, I do know all these technical terms. A USB, for instance, is a back up in case the USA fails.

Boyata sounds like he means business, and the hunger with which he spoke may well have been a factor in Deila snapping him up.

 “For me, it was all about the opportunity to play for a big team. I have been in Britain for seven or eight years now and know how big Celtic is.

“From the first minute I heard I would have a chance of moving here I spoke to my agent and everybody was happy with that. I know some players who played here as well.

“I spoke and asked questions and heard really good things. I didn’t really have to think too much.

“I saw the manager twice in Manchester. Once after training and then another time he came to see me. That was good as they came to see me – from that moment I had it in my head about coming to play for Celtic.

“The manager told me the plan for me and because of what he’s done with Jason Deneyar, it was not a hard decision.

“I spoke to a few club although most of the managers spoke to my agent. I could have stayed in England or gone to France or Spain.”

And to think some of us questioned Ronny ‘s man management skills. You should hang your head in shame .

hypocrisy meter

( The author reserves the right to re-write history whenever he feels like it makes him look stupid. Anyone who works at Level 5 PR , or ibrox, who needs a staff writer give me a shout. )

Boyata continued, pleased at getting an interview with someone after being ignored for so long in England;

 “I spoke most of the time to John Guidetti. He told me good things about the club.

“He told me about how good the club was and the team spirit, about the fans, especially the fans, the city, the manager, so quite a lot.

“I know Jason from when he came through the reserves so from that time and I was the one helping him a lot.

“From the moment he moved here I was looking at him all the time and really happy to see he had a really good season here.

“When you see you have this opportunity to play games – especially because I need games – it was a really good opportunity to move on.”

He is looking forward to the Big Cup, which is always a carrot to be dangled in front of EPL reserve players, who may not be reserve players down to a lack of ability or attitude.

 “That’s maybe the big thing for me. I’ve seen Celtic in the Champions League before. I see the club being able to be in it again.

“I’ve never had the chance to play in the Champions League but I’ve been on the bench for City five or six times. This was very frustrating for me because as a young boy you dream about playing in that tournament.”

“You see yourself next to the line but you can’t get over it. If we can qualify then that would be a really good thing and I think it is possible.”

It’s worth noting that he also commented on Virgil van dijk, comments that more than hint that van dijk will not be leaving this summer;

“I saw Virgil play for Groningen when I was on loan at FC Twente, I was also looking at Celtic last season to watch Jason (Denayer).

“I can see what type of player he is and he’s really good. I can’t say we’ll be a good partnership for fact just yet — but obviously I want that.

“The manager has told me that he can see something really good there and I believe him.

Again though, this badly spelt story from Sweden suggests that Erik Johansson, another centre half, is being lined up for a move as well.

KvP: Celtic vill värva Erik Johansson i sommar

(It’s not badly spelt, you muppet, it’s in Swedish -Ed )

The Diary has stated that it won’t comment on rumours until there is believed to be something in it, and the only one worth a mention is the story in the sun that Deila has spoken to Martin Odegaard with a view to bringing him to Celtic on loan. Thats the sort of thing that ends up in the diary when there’s nothing to laugh at over at Ibrox, but it is worth a comment.

If Ronny does bring Odegaard to Celtic, he will not be a first team player. Trust me on that one, it’s from a good source. He’s not at that stage yet. Which makes a loan unlikely. Then again, if Rafa Benitez was my manager…..

Ronny is also on record as saying he will not develop players for other clubs, although Denaayer was an exception, but not something he’s likely to do again unless it’s absolutely necessary.

Just thought i’d try to clear that up. You know what happens if you spend too much time in the sun….

You get cancer and die.

Surprised they’ve never used that as an advert.

Elsewhere, Sepp Blatter has stepped down from his post as FIFA chief, having decided to spend more time improving his tennis game. His forehand is needing a bit of work, to bring it up to the level of his backhanders.

Any other spare time he has will be spent in the company of his shredder.

Figures emerged yesterday which detailed the money that English clubs received from the tv companies ….

You’re not going to like this. so you know what to do…

With Blatter gone, you can expect a similar distribution of wealth within the international game….

Controversy remains over the OrangeFest planned for this weekend in Glasgow.

There’s no need for me to repeat the reasons why this should not be allowed to go ahead, but there is a picture that kind of explains it..

The sort of people you wouldn’t want to live next door to.

Incidentally, is it true-surely it cannot be-that this lady works at Celtic as a steward ?

Embedded image permalink

I’m all for equal opportunites and so on, open to all etc, but it’s, well interesting if true. There are allegations that she has ejected supporters from the north stand and confiscated season books.

It would be nice if someone could lay these scurrilous stories to rest, and absolve the woman of any blame.

And we move on to Ibrox, just as several players move on from there themselves;

Having failed to breach the walls of the Premier League, we hear they are making tentative steps to joining another set up;

Mind you, at least Kris Boyd will have a few quid extra after he secured an image rights deal with a well known family board game;

Dave King, the man charged with leading the club to the top level, ( he’s always being charged with something ) has said that he wants Ally Mccoist back at the club as a manager.

We hear that the portly funster was at Ibrox for talks earlier this week;

Not to be outdone by Desi monds excellent look back at the high points of last season on here, a “Rangers” blogger has given fans of the Ibrox has come up with no less than twenty-he had to stop there, having no more shoes to take off- as to why things ain’t so bad on the southside.

If you hurt  your sides laughing on sunday , you’ll be in intensive care having surgery when you read this

20 reasons…

Here’s an old picture, courtesy of St. anthony on twitter. Who is playing, and when ?

BTW. The latest rant from bluenosed blogger Bill Mc Murdo – The Darkness Deepens” made me wet myself. – Using words like “superiority complex” “arrogance” “We arra peepel (sic*) notion of entitlement and disdain” suggests that he might even have been stealing some choice phrases from these very pages

I’d be wary about buying anyone from the Swedish League considering that is where Hooiveld and Bangura came from! The quality is not there in the league anymore. You could maybe say the same for all the Scandinavian leagues. We got Johansen but he was moulded by Ronny.

Number 9 in the 20 reasons list is my personal favourite. But oor list is so much shorter and less full of wind and pish. 1reason the monkeys are jealous of the hoops = we’re no deed !!

gareth, henrik also started his career in the swedish leagues!!

i would like to think that ronny has a good knowledge of those leagues, but what concerns me is the name jo inge berget!! that was a ronny signing and he was a total disaster

Be warned! The polis are coming round to cuff you for manslaughter. The Diary is being held responsible for my sudden, slow and side splitting demise. There were so many places to kill oneself laughing today I could not choose which to go for and simply burst out all over. Any chance of recovery was lost as I read the McMurdo stotters supplied by CJB. If you ever reach my falling-to-bits age and find yourself immobilised by gout (it’s a real swell experience), get this Diary out from your archives and read it over and over. There are parts of your anatomy that will swell with laughter so much you will not even think of your size twenty feet – I can vouch for this. Marvellous stuff today, Ralph, and the comments do it justice too.

Mike, I agree with Desi. Get that quill out, you know, the pointy thing with the ruffled feathers you used at school (no, not Miss Swan the ballet teacher). If you need ink, take a trip down Edmiston Drive. I am reliably informed there are gallons of blue stuff running down that road – as fast as they can, I am told. So, Mike, let your acerbic juices flow and remind us of your ranting days and give Regan et al a right boot up the jacksy.

I see King Kong (sorry if I have offended any gorillas) has selected “Crusty the Clown” (you need to dissect this into slices of humour to get the subtle flavour) to work along side the Pie Man. Sounds like the best decision since sliced bread.

I would go on if I could find 20 reasons to do so. But I am no budding writer like Mr. Jeff Holmes, our journalistic award winner of the future, nor, like him, do I feel entitled to make public my inane theories.

No matter, what a fun day! I almost feel like marching round the block or juggling oranges with a sheet over ma heid. By the way, to do it properly, do you need to be up tae ye’r knees in blood oranges?

I think it’s time to return to my gout and give you all a rest, so I am off.

Thanks Ralph for the relief – a swell read is better than swollen feet any day and killer humour beats pain killers head over heels (which I is fortunately still my normal position for the moment :))

Clearly the daily mail hasn’t bought into the “positive PR” requirement at ipox this summer. Can you imagine how much more hurting they will be at the thought bringing back mcmoist is the best plan king could muster!!!

Is the game in the photo the famous day when Celtic took on the 70’s Stereotypes XI?

The connexion between the Orange Order and the Ku Klux Klan = the Klan was founded by the son of a Scottish immigrant to the USA. Said Scottish immigrant was a bitter fire and brimstone Wee Free Kirk/Presbyterian preacher. He took his fanaticism to the USA and it manifested itself in his son in the disgusting shape of the Klan.
This is what most galls me about “Rangers” men when they talk in the press about their “traditions”..since when did bigotry and sectarianism qualify as a “tradition”. Does this mean genocide by the Nazis, Pol Pot and Stalin should be considered a tradition?
If Celtic had operated a “no Protestants” tradition when I was a boy, I wouldn’t have become a supporter, I would have been ashamed to be associated with a club with that “tradition”. I like to think I was brought up better than to accept that sectarianism is “traditional”. They can all stick it..Scotland’s shame..absolutely.
