Celtic Diary Friday May 8: Head Scout Away ?

The wind of change may have blown through Scottish politics last night, by the way, if you voted Green, somewhat ironically, you just wasted a piece of paper, but there could be a similar gust of fresh air hitting Celtic Park.

David Moss- (who ? Ed ) ( The current head scout, thats who -Ralph )  has been in talks with Leeds United about taking up the role of Sporting Director at the Yorkshire club.

What possible reasons could there be for not letting him go ?

Actually, you have to ask what Leeds see in him, perhaps he’s left one or two signings off  his cv, because it’s hard to imagine anyone at Leeds saying that they need the guy who discovered, Pukki, Balde, Lassad, Boerrigter, Berget, Tonev-you get my point, add others as you remember them.

Mind you, don’t tell them. They might change their minds.

Ronny could well be increasing his own influence here, as there is no word from the club that they want to keep Moss.

Winger Gary Mackay Steven-he’s the one who looks like he lost a fiver and found a tenner-has been talking about what has put that grin on his face.

‘When I knew there was definite interest from Celtic, this was the only place I wanted to come,’ recalled Mackay-Steven.

‘The draw of Celtic as a whole is so big, it’s a massive club, something I have realised now. I know I made the right decision.

‘England is a place where a lot of people want to play their football. There is a lot to look forward to down there, a lot of big clubs, but Celtic is such a draw.

‘For example, the atmosphere in the two Inter Milan games is something I don’t think could be replicated at too many other clubs in the world, not just in Scotland or England.

‘Winning trophies is what I’ve wanted to do. I’ve got my first one now and I want more next season. The mentality here is the second best is not good enough. You have to win every time you step out onto that pitch. I’m happy to buy into that.

‘I have to go back to school to the last time I won a cup. I think I would have been in second year at Thurso High School and it was something like the north Highland cup.

‘I got a runners-up medal in the Scottish Cup with United. So to get a league medal is so important for me. I have a big chance at Celtic to get more.

‘The first aim was to win the league and get into Europe. But looking forward, the Champions League is the pinnacle and we know that is achievable if we come back and do well in the qualifiers.

‘That is what everyone, from the manager down to the boys, wants to do. We want to bring the Champions League back to the club.’

I have obviously been delighted with how it has turned out. My main aim was to hit the ground running, know what the manager wants, how they play, get in the team, and get to know the boys and their style of play.

‘I feel I’ve done that. I wanted to contribute so it’s been nice, I’m delighted to be here and now can’t wait for next season.

‘It was important to make an instant impact. When there is so much contribution for places then any chance you get, you want to grab it with both hands and that’s what I tried to do.

‘The European games gave me a little taste and I now want more. That’s the goal for next season; to get more European football back here.’

Brazilian striker Jonathas has hinted that he might like a move to Celtic.

I know all about Celtic, how big they are in Europe, how respected they are and about their fans,” he said.

“And they win their league, which means they are consistently qualifying for the Champions League.

“For now, nothing is decided. We do not have many games left this season, so we need to finish strongly and end up in the best possible position.

“In the summer I can sit down with my agent and look at everything.”

He’s scored 12 in 34 games this season, and picked up nine yellow cards and one red whilst playing in a league not noted for referees making honest mistakes, so unless Ronny Deila has a plan B designed around just using ten players, it’s probably better to give this guy a miss.

Celtic’s youth team made their cup final with a crushing 6-0 win over Hibernian, with striker Luke Donnelly scoring four. The youngsters won the game by playing at a tempo the Edinburgh side couldn’t match, which indicates further that Deila is changing the playing side at all levels.

And it’s nice to have a cup final to look forward to.

Scotlands under 17s, on the other hand, were beaten 5-0 by France in their opening game of the U17 European championship.

Scott Gemmill proving to be equally adept as a coach as he was as a player. His dad, Archie, was coach of the youth side that made the final of the same tournament nine years ago.

“There is more prestige attached to these tournaments now.

“My dad took Scotland Under-19s to the European Championship finals in Poland in 2006. I was a disgrace as I didn’t give my dad the credit he deserved.

“Back then I didn’t realise how big a tournament it was and how difficult it was for him to do what he did with Scotland.

“It’s easy to dismiss these things and not realise the European Championship is a massive competition at this level.

“I can remember my dad coming back from Poland. He is not a very talkative man but wanted to speak about what he had done and I rubber-eared him.

Er, when did the job become a hereditary position ?

Seriously, that has to be another example of the SFA mafia in action. What next ?

Hugh Dallas’s son to be head of refereeing ?

Oh, wait….

Thankfully, there seems to be no similarities between the two.

The Daily Record praised Second Rangers for reducing the price of a ticket to watch their play off game with Queen of the south.

RANGERS today delivered a £5 ticket that should be applauded given the rising cost of football is pricing out fans.

The Ibrox club struck the deal for their Championship play-off quarter-final against Queen of the South.

It’s an example of a Scottish club trying its best to make it cheaper to watch football.

Here Record Sport Online came up with a few others that aren’t fleecing the fans.

“Rangers “-not “fleecing their fans “

Probably because they have figured out that the poor sods can’t have any money left after paying for this;

In fact, they have paid out an awful lot for not much return just lately, and they’ll need to again, so maybe £5 is all the club dare ask for just now…

The old noneteeth century picture of Celtic Park featured the old cycle track in yesterdays picture.

Heres one you might find a little more difficult.

Who are the opponents here ?

Voetbal. Europacup II Seizoen 1965-1966. Go Ahead Eagles-Celtic (uitslag 0-6). E…

Clue-it’s a european game in one of the low countries.

On a lighter note, well done to the SNP for getting so many seats in yesterdyas election. The obvious knock on effect is a lowering of train fares so they can actually afford to get there, which works for me as well.

Confirmation of Labours impotence came early this morning when they had their Balls publicly removed.

Ah, well, they do say that north of the border everything gets battered.

Maybe that scout is the one who spotted Van Dijk, Denayer, Bitton and Johanssen? And recommended Gordon, Griffiths, Armstrong and GM-S? Everyone has their successes and failure.

GIRFUY – If it hadn’t been for wankers like you who voted NO , we wouldn’t have that bastard cameron and his rich buddies to answer to

thanks to arseholes like you, we’re stuck with the tories for another 5 years.
A YES vote would have meant we were rid of the tories for good, but all you unionists couldn’t let go – a bit of Stockholm syndrome, so used to being beaten and subjected that you form a bond with your abuser.
Labour’s dead – there’s no coming back from this. Our only hope is that there’s another referendum and this time we vote YES.

Scottish Labour will be back! The fight will go on.

If any more players come out of the woodwork to praise the club and the manager, some papers might have to increase their decent read pages to two. If Lenny brought back the thunder, Ronny has stirred up a perfect storm. There is a wind of change blasting through more than politics in Scotland. Long may it rage.

As for the fans’ favourite, for every £5 they receive in ticket money, we will receive £10 – maybe that is not as agreeable as it sounds but I wanted for payback.

My prayers have been answered with the possible departure of the invisible man who has been recommending our many bogus players. It just remains for my final prayer to be answered when the Brazilian Jona (seems a more appropriate name) is swallowed by a whale on his way over.
