Bye Bye Sky-A Call For Unity

Charlie Saiz ponders the possibility of a cross border statement of intent to Sky TV

I and a growing number of disillusioned fans of Scottish Football have now reached tipping point regarding the ever widening gulf between SKY’s valuation of the Scottish and English game.

Whilst we all agree that of course the Game down South is of a better quality (having more money allows fro greater scope for increased quality)most of us also agree not as big a margin as the current money deals would suggest.
Our deal is worth around £15m for 86 Games. That works out around £175k a game.
By comparison under the new Premiership deal, each game will fetch around £10.2m per game(up from 6.2m in the previous deal).
In effect 2 premiership games are worth £5m more than our entire deal.Which even the most ardent Premiership fan will say is a complete farce.
Further to this each of the 3 relegated sides in the English top flight will receive a further £86m(over 3 years) for their abject failure.
On top of that they also get their flat rate of £55m for taking part.
Celtic by comparison (Scotland biggest earner) made just under £2.5m for winning the PremierLeague last Season whilst Hearts who finished bottom made approx £780k last season.
Cardiff fans will be giggling at that one no doubt.
Enough is enough folks for if Scottish Football is ever to make it’s way back to any form of successful standing within the European Game then fans are going to have to start taking some direct positive action here.
We all hold the answer to this problem
SKY Sports are not going to take a blind bit of notice of fans whining and moaning about these things on line and in pubs.

What it needs is direct action.

The only language these Worporate Cankers understand is the language of money.
They have no real interest in our clubs.

In fact , they aren’t even interested in the other Leagues in England.

All they are concerned about is the Premiership and all the hype that goes with it.

Your subscriptions are funding this beast that is devouring all before it.
I don’t Subscribe to SKY myself I never have (out of principal) but I can assure anyone reading this that if I did it would have been cancelled many.many years ago.
I along with a growing band of others who support the Scottish game are asking for fans of all clubs across Scotland to cancel Sky sports  and put an end to this farce now once and for all.
Divided it won’t make a blind bit of difference but together we can all make a real statement of intent and perhaps wake SKY up to the very real idea that fans actually do matter and without your cash the bubble they have created can go bang if enough come on board.
I would also invite fans of Clubs in the lower leagues down south to perhaps show some solidarity and who knows they might even gain something from it themselves.
Come join us and say Bye Bye To SKY.
Cancel today

Tell them why,

Enough is Enough.

It’s time to claim our game back
A fair deal for all or no deal at all.

Just informed the good lady that we’re cancelling Sky on Monday morning.
If I’m being honest I have always had Sky as I love my football and through work commitments can’t always get to the game.
However I don’t think Sky play fair with the fans of the clubs in Scotland in terms of kick off times and the pathetically low money given to Scottish football by Sky.
Factor in wee prices like Neil Mccann and it all points to the obvious action…….Goodbye Sky!

I canceelled the Sky Sport package a long time ago and I have never regretted it.

Basically it’s pish and they have just about the worst commentators and Scottish football pundits as it’s possible to get and that’s saying something.

Never have and never will subscribe tae the murderer of football, ever since the monster that is Sky sank its teeth intae British football in 1991 the beautiful game has suffered beyond repair, especially in Scotland, the totally ridiculous overrated and over inflated EPL has ruined many a team from outside of it by luring its top players to tin pot shite teams like Burnley, Hull, Palace, Norwich, Blackburn ect ect, players who put the Sky pound before their own ambitions in football, a vast majority of these players will end their careers with fuk all in their trophy cabinets but plenty in their bank accounts, with very few great memories, very little great accounts of playing in some of Europe’s greatest stadiums against Europe’s greatest teams but can’t tell the grandchildren that their still minted…HAIL HAIL…… BY BY AND FUK SKY

I have been posting on the forums about this. It is about time we got a petition together – 1 or 2 or even 100 cancellations i am afraid will not make a dent, however the threat of thousands leaving at the same time will get their attention as well as the MSM in general. maybe it is about time we made a concerted effort to bring about change.

I’ve never subscribed to SKY for all the reasons already given but the boycott is a great idea, also for the reasons given. Well done Charlie and bhoys.

Have you looked into Celtic TV and using a site to change your ISP to an International number (if your a UK resident that is)so you can get ALL our games Live?
£80 for the year.
I gather SKY Sports Package is now around £47 /month.

I cancelled Sky after 25 years of subscription in January. I told them that although they had Scottish games shown they were not putting enough into the Scottish game; my Son cancelled at the same time.

Sky would pay billions of pounds to film your paint drying if that became a national sport, it’s not about the quality it’s about what they can sell. Take the long term view, cancel like we did and let them know. So far we have been offered 30% off for 5 years and 60% off for 1 year. Each time we have told then to give Scottish football 10% of the EPL deal (in line with the population and subscription) and we will return. Come on, fight back.

i cancelled my sky when they re-negotiated the deal when rangers died. In the same month they cut our deal by 30% and increased the EPL deal by 30%…..arseholes.

Really glad to see others are now realising the damage sky do to our game.

Top man Jebus the new deal incidentally was a 70% increase on the last I gather.

I have been following this debate since Ralph’s rant on Thursday evening.Never have and never will subscribe to sky, much prefer the Celtic experience it’s the best 5 hours of the week for us.
Roughly 10% of sky subscribers are from Scotland, this should equate to £500M being filtered through Scottish football, what we get is a paltry £15M,this works out at about 0.3% of their initial package, shafted comes to mind.
The £2.5M that Celtic received from sky for winning the Premier League add’s up to 5,000 season tickets, spread the word and fill those empty seats then you can tell this corporate monster what they can do with their Sunday 1200 kick off times.I can also sympathize with the Celtic support unable to attend matches through illness or travel ,who will keep subscribing no matter what deal is on offer.Well done Charlie.HH

I know that I will get pelters for this but feel that I need to point out the good aspects of Sky not paying sufficient money to Scottish football.

No Sky money have forced Scottish clubs to nurture their own young players as we cannot afford to purchase players over the price of a couple of million. This has led to a resurgence in the Scottish International team, albeit a small resurgence, under WGS.

We all saw how poor the Englund team were at the recent world cup. This is because their young player don’t get game time, unless they are exceptional. Which given the fear of losing games is very rare.

If we are honest, we all love it when we home grow a player who goes on to be real players. Dalgliesh, Macari, Tommy Burns even young Forrest.

I agree with the cancellation of SKY, but will thank them for helping us sew the green seeds of successful international success.

Yes and when those players emerge like the likes of McCarthy and Gauld Clubs from elsewhere can come in and easily outbid their parent Clubs on wages.
Peter Lawwell openly admitted we cannot match top end Championship Clubs for wages.
This is a direct result of the ludicrous and quite frankly ridiculous difference in funding Clubs receive either side of the Border.
We had the Manager of Burnley Fc saying Stuart Armstrong would have been a development player had he went there instead of Celtic in January.
That’s Stuart Armstrong who made half the Inter Milan team look Average on the night at Celtic Park in his first few weeks at our Club.
It’s a fucking disgrace a Manager of a Club like Burnley can come out and suggest such a thing.
His Club will recieve over £80m should they FAIL in the Premiership this Season.
Cut it any way you want that is simply not right.
How are the Clubs coming into the Championship supposed to match that sort of reward when they win their respective league?
The answer is they can’t and SKY don’t give a shite for any of them.
The fans that’s you I and everyone else out there are being treated like shite at all levels of the game.
SKY have had a massive hand in that.
It’s our game not theirs though you could be forgiven for thinking it isn’t.
If enough fans cancel at some point SKY are going to have to take notice and do something about it.
Our own FA have proved fucking useless in all this time the paying public took control of things now and sorted this shite out.
If we don’t then expect our game to fall even further behind and become an even bigger irrelevance than it already is to those that control it in this Country and beyond.
The green seeds of International Success will be sown by kids getting off their arses

Could we organise a cancel Sky Day where everyone who has not already cancelled arranges to cancel on a set date. Post on your social media sites to encourage maximum coverage.
This is not just a Celtic thing every fan in Scotland should be involved.

I think we could certainly do things to make an impact visually.
I have changed my Avatar on Twitter for example and have someone working on a new one this weekend.
Be creative and be supportive of your fellow fans regardless of who they support this affects ALL OF OUR CLUBS.

If you are cancelling SKY remember to cancel your broadband with them as well. Their marketing policy regard the EPL is that they will in fact lose money on the deal but will make up losses and make their profit by selling add-ons, like broadband, box office etc.

Cancelling the TV deal will not affect profits without cancelling the add-ons as it is where they make the real money

I am with Virgin Media but subscribed to the Sky Sports/Movies…..off now. Another blow to Sky would be cancelling the lot and subscribing to another provider, Virgin (in cabled areas, the ugly satellite dish is not something I want hanging on my house anyway) BT, Talk Talk or whoever would get it up them as well……just a thought.

never had SKY sports never will ,but i`m going to cancel virgin as i don`t really watch tv,only got it for broadband where i watch any games on a live stream.

Look the fact is SKY is a good product. We need a decent governing body to sort the deal out and not sell their soul for a pittance. I am keeping mine as I have watched Liverpool v Man U and about to watch El Classico today. Games that I want to see. Get onto Doncaster & Reagan Charlie and dont dictate to people who want to watch good football. Get the administrators to go earn their money!!
