The Celtic Trust are holding an Open Meeting tonight in the London Road Supporters club. Instead of bottling it all up, get down there tonight and start to do something about it.
From the Trusts website;
The Celtic Trust will be organising an Open Meeting for all Celtic fans on Wednesday 22nd January 2014 at 7pm in the Celtic Club, 1524 London Road. The purpose of the meeting is to allow interested Celtic fans to be able to discuss any concerns they have about recent events in an orderly and purposeful way.
The meeting will be chaired and everyone is asked to speak through the chair and to show respect to each other’s views regardless of whether you agree with them or not.
Any outcomes of the meeting, or any follow-up meetings, will be progressed and reported back via the Trust. This includes any proposals for joint action.
Our initial thoughts in terms of an agenda is as follows:
- Recent announcements/actions by the Club
- Stewarding/policing
- Any other issues arising from the Milan and Motherwell games and subsequent actions by the club.
Those at the meeting are welcome to raise other issues on the night but it would be helpful if those who plan to attend and who want something raised were to let us know beforehand if at all possible. We look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday night and rebuilding the fan unity that appears, on the face of it, to have been eroded to some extent over the last month or so. ”
If there are issues with the club, the Trust is a good vehicle to get that grievance over to those at the club who can do something about it.
If we don’t tell them whats wrong, how can they fix it ?
The new Club Celtic bar is open, bathed in a flourescent green light which is reminiscent of Sellafield. Handily, as you can see in this picture , there are some big buckets behind the bar to help with the effects of nausea.
Rhys Williams of Middlesborough is the latest name to be linked with Celtic-some sources claim an offer is already on the table. The Australian centre half is looking to leave Middlesborough, which is hardly surprising considering the aesthetic beauty of the chemical wilderness, and Celtic are desperate to sign an Australian who will make the grade. Lets hope the guy has lost Tom Rogics number.
West Ham are in the frame as well, and are probably favourites to sign him. Especially as their defence is probably in need of a shake up after conceding nine goals over two games to Manchester City. That game , incidentally was is the subject of a match fixing investigation after an irregular betting pattern was discovered when someone put a tenner on West Ham to score.
Swansea are after him as well, so theres no point in pushing the boat out for a centre half who would not be first pick, although he can play at right back as well. Anyone else think this story is a load of nuts ?
Which means he’ll be paraded at the ground tomorrow.
Another youngster, Hungarian striker Mark Murai is coming over for a weeks trial. The seventeen year old plays for Kaposvar over there and has been capped by Hungary at Under-18 level.
Agent Balint Kovacs said: “His club have agreed to let him travel to Celtic.”
If he can find it on the map, presumably.
Murai is the number nine bottom right. I thought I’d put this picture in as its the only one you’re likely to ever see.
Filip Djuricic, the Benfica benchwarmer linked in yesterdays papers is not coming toCeltic-according to his agent , anyway.
“Djuricic not going to Celtic because he wants to stay at Benfica and fight for a place to play more.
“I do not know whether or not Celtic are interested or want to know, because right now Djuricic is a Benfica player and he wants to stay at the club. He’s very happy, despite wanting to be in a better situation because he’s not playing as much as he wanted, but his time will arrive. He’s a fighter and will win his place sooner or later.”
The first part of what he said is interesting, and makes you wonder of Celtic were ever interested. You’d have thought his agent would have known. So, it must be Jordan Rhodes after all.
Sunderland are reportedly interested in taking Georgios Samaras off our hands, which alarmingly means that a deal for Steven Fletcher could still be on the cards, while Leigh Griffiths has been told by Wolves boss Kenny Jackett to get his head down -which I thought was rather cruel-and work for a place at Wolves.
Actually, maybe he should just keep his head down full stop.
It was never going to last, really.
Theres been some anti Ally McCoist press of late, and although it did give us a faint ray of hope that the MSM were suddenly going to start doing their jobs properly, the Daily Record have given a blank piece of paper to David McCarthy and told him to revert to the age old line of running down Celtic and praising the new club, whilst pretending its the same club.
The words in brackets are mine, the other shite is his.
David McCarthy: You must be dreaming if you think that Neil Lennon and Ally McCoist have dream jobs at Celtic and Rangers
( Well, one of those two lives in a perpetual dreamworld if thats what he means. )
DAVID looks to the future and discusses why both the Celtic and Rangers managers find themselves at a crossroads and with some difficult decisions to make.
ON the face of it, they are in their dream jobs. Neil Lennon and Ally McCoist, managing the teams they grew up supporting, idolised by tens of thousands and getting very well paid for it. But are they happy?
( In McCoists case, getting ridiculously well paid for it, when everyone else is being asked to take a pay cut. )
I’m not so sure. Both men are approaching a crossroads in their careers and may have some very difficult decisions to make.
Let’s start with the Celtic manager. Has Lennon been a success? Undoubtedly. He has done what he’s had to do in terms of the league, winning two in a row and cantering to a third title as we speak. Last season’s Champions League success elevated him to another level and proved that he is more than capable of managing in a more challenging environment.
Trouble is, he has hit a ceiling in Scotland. So what if he wins the next three or four titles? Next year’s is assured and Rangers are such a basket case that it is pretty unlikely they will be in a position to challenge for several seasons.
( So, he’s already said that Lennon is managing his boyhood heroes, and he’s obviously about to mention the chance tio become a legend at that club by winning an unprecedented and all paid for legally ten in a row. )
So what is there to whet his appetite? This is one driven individual who thrives on a challenge, even on being the underdog. But in Scotland he is never the underdog.
( Er, ten in a row. Surely as long as the SFA control the referees , its a major challenge ? )
And now, as this season proved, his team are so much the underdog in the Champions League that there is very little chance of them biting the big boys on the backside. How can they when they sell their best players for £12million but can buy only those in the £2m/£3m bracket?
( Is he suggesting we only sell our players for £2-3m ? )
If Celtic keep strolling it in Scotland but fail to make an impact in the Champions League then Lennon might never get the chance to test himself in a stronger league.
( Such as the Champions League ? )
That’s why he would be very strongly tempted to take an offer from the likes of Norwich. They are dwarfed by Celtic but play in a league that attracts some of the best players so why wouldn’t the best managers want to operate in it?
Lennon would back himself to be enough of a success with a mid-range club down there to be head-hunted.
And gnawing away at him will be the fear that if he doesn’t get the opportunity soon, he might never get it.
( Yes, every time we hear Lennon or see him its blindingly obvious that he’s waiting for Norwich or Hull to rescue him from the nightmare repetition of another game against Barcelona. )
It’s a tough one for Peter Lawwell. Yes, he could sanction a bigger spend to enable Lennon to have a bigger shot of making more waves in Europe but ultimately it is about a man’s ambition.
( He’s actually saying here that Lennon is going to leave no matter what Lawwell does. Despite having no evidence whatsoever, oh hang on, it is the Record. )
Oh, and before the emails and tweets come flooding in about this being a HOPE that he goes, let me say this: there is not a sports reporter in Scotland who wants Lennon to leave Celtic. The guy is box office. You ask him a question, he gives you an answer. He has opinions and doesn’t mind airing them. So, not only would he be a loss to THE game up here, Lennon would be a loss to OUR game.
( That paragraph is astonishing. Even Richard Nixon would have blushed at that one. )
As for McCoist, you wonder just how much more nonsense he is willing to put up with. Like Lennon, he is damned if he wins matches and damned if he doesn’t.
The criticism of his team’s style of play is something he will have to put up with because there have been times when it has been hard to watch. On Monday, Seb Faure couldn’t pass the ball to a team-mate five yards away.
But McCoist has done the job he was asked to do – rip through the leagues.
( And ever so cheaply as well, In fact, his policies have driven the club to the brink of administration )
His problems will come from within and with the enemies he has made by his refusal to back those in positions of power who have made a pig’s ear of the finances. Make no mistake, McCoist knows he will be bulleted if he doesn’t look like getting Rangers up next season. There are some who would bump him today if they thought it wouldn’t lead to a season ticket boycott.
( I wouldn’t bump him. I’d bounce off and fall over . )
Despite all the outcry about the wage bill, it is only 30 percent of the turnover, which should be sustainable if the folk at the top of the marble staircase were doing their jobs properly. I don’t think McCoist has reached the stage where he’s had enough but he’s well within his rights to be mightily hacked off.
( The wage bill is sustainable ? Maybe-but fifty players in division 3, some on Premier League wages ? )
And I believe he is.
I listened to a radio show on the way back from Ibrox 10 days’ ago. The former Hearts and Hibs player Michael Stewart was asked a question and told he could answer only yes or no. The question was: Is McCoist a good manager? Stewart’s answer was no.
The format did not allow for an expansion to the answer but I’d have been interested to hear the reasoning.
( I’ll give it a go for you. He single handedly put the old club into eventual liquidation by failing to qualify for Europe. He got knocked out of every Cup before the semi final stage. He blew a 15 point lead at the top of the table in a matter of weeks. Enough to be going on with? Because I could mention his man management skills, or his tactical nous, or his leadership capabilities )
It is impossible to judge because the Rangers boss is not operating within the parameters that normally apply to a manager. Look at what McCoist has done since Rangers were forced to start again on the bottom rung and I would argue that in terms of wins, losses and draws, there is little more he could have done – particularly this season.
( Look at what he did before they had to start again. )
Twenty one league matches played, 20 won and the other drawn. They’ve scored 71 goals and conceded eight. They lead League One by 20 points.
That’s job done but the style of play should be better. When it comes to deciding if he is a good manager, though, that is far too complex for a simple yes or no. A bit like answering the question: “Will Lennon and McCoist still be managing in Glasgow next term?”
( More importantly, will David McCarthy still be writing in the Record next term ?
Earlier in the article, he mentions getting tweets or emails. We’ve intercepted one.
Thanks Dave-pint behind the bar for you-Ally.
Ally won’t be getting me a pint any time soon, or whoever put this out on twitter, which could be intrepeted as a measure of McCoist from those who know him;
Jimmy Hay was the captain you struggled to remember in yesterdyas teaser. He, along with Danny McGrain and Tommy boyd can lay claim to seven trophies as captain.
Today, name these three musketeers;
That’ll teach you to moan about players haircuts these days…
Andy Payton, Rudi Vata, Stuart Slater. Love the sponsor-less shirts btw!
Andy Payton,Rudi Vata,Stuart Gray
is it Patton, one of the Dariuses and slater?
it should also teach us not to moan about the players we have theses days.
Andy Wotsisface, Rudi Vata and Stuart Slater
Full name is Stuart “bums on seats” Slater !
Somebody fae the Bay City Rollers, the deceased member o’ the corries and a young Spiers!
Ralph,
McCarthy, like his MSM colleagues, are sycophants, for all things Hunnish.
They are crapping it, if we go.on to make the ‘ 10 ‘
Lenny know’s the history, and want’s to write his name, into
being part of our unrivalled history.
Any news on this quality striker, we are waiting for ?
Andy Paton, holy Vata & Stuart ‘impostor’ Slater. Pass marks for holy, and Andy Paton, Paton cos I think he scored in a 2-1 victory against the former club rankers. Only thing I remember about Slater was his trying to entertain at Starks park, by running across the park on his way to the dugout to come on. Twat.
The only one I recognised was Stuart Slater. I recall being so excited about us singing him. I follow the Hammers donw in england, and he was really exciting before us before he went to Celtic.
The fact that Brady was his agent was bit of a concern, but I think he was overawed by the size of the club and never got near his best. dont know where he finished up after Celtic?
If these e mails are genuine, who is leaking them, and why are they briefing against Mc Coist? Getting the mood set for a boot out the door perhaps?
Can anyone mind who was accused of knocking Tracksuits from Celtic Park and punting them on to family and friends?
I seem to remember it was the Maestro?..time has elapsed and I was consuming way too much El D around this particular juncture in life.
Surely not the Maestro, most of his family were employed in some capacity at CP, apart from one of his cousin’s, shady McStay who had a shop I the Gallowgate………here wait a minute….
slater his claim to fame was playing keepy up with weights around his ankles whit a roaster effing dud
Surely the greatest line in irony ever written
“But McCoist has done the job he was asked to do – rip through the leagues.”
I remember the day we signed these 3 very well. Ralphie was a bit of an enigma – I seem to recall him wearing the no.9 shorts more often than not and the inevitable questions over his scoring record putting immediate pressure on him, which sadly seemed to really affect him. He had ability but was never a CF. He did have a couple of good games against TFOD at Celtic Park too. I think this lot cost nearly £2m? What would that be in todays prices? Ouch!
Rudi Vater…i still use that for glesga rhyming slang for water!

Was it not Judas?
Was Ronnie Glavin not mixed up in something simila in the late 70’s?
It may have been that young blighter Maurice of turncoat fame Divit?
I initially thought it miay have been Nicholas as I seem to remember it defo being in the mid to late 80’s.
I think the culprit ended up with brass neck and a fine but allowed to continue playing thereafter?
On a side note…
Funny Celtic Chants
“Davie Dodds the Elephant man”.
If memory serves me well . Rudi Vata broke a wrist/arm at rugby park in the 90′. don’t think we heard much of him afer.
It’s Jerome, Pepe & Gervais
Rondo – Rudi Vata played in the 1995 cup final win over Airdrie, so he got more winners medals with us than Di Canio, Viduka & Cadette combined!
He was sold just after the start of the next season.
He also scored a cracker against the hun in April 95.
The thinking man’s Albanian utility player.
Much happier diary these days Ralphy. You seem to be getting over the ‘Horrible January’ syndrome and the light is appearing again!
Good on the Celtic Trust for arranging this meeting. It’s completely unlike the Celtic support to be as divided as it seems over the past few months (although not necesarily at the games themselves) and there is no need for it at all. Celtic will only become stronger by a united support (I’m not so naive to think we are all smiling and about to buy the world a Coke as there will always be disputes over matters on the pitch-that’s part of the fun of the post-match beery debates) but we must use this position to stamp out the memory of Sevclub/Zombie FC/whatever it may be for once and for all. Tonight’s meeting is a good start.
The possible introduction of standing areas behind the goals at CP is a fantastic idea ans should solve the problem of lateral movement for those who wish to pogo about like Zebidee on cheap speed or blow. If it works for Borussia Dortmund that is good enough for me.
Ive been away for a few days so just catching up on stuff. Could somebody please briefly explain that item yesterday re G Speirs and the other bloke or point me in the direction where I can find out.
Thanks

If you mean Chris Graham going doolahlally….
