Celtic Diary Sunday November 17

There was a wee bit of controversy in the Portugal -Sweden game on Friday night. Christian Ronaldo, the Real Madrid forward, head butted-well, motioned his head toward-Mikael Lustig, who had put his hand to his head to highlight the contact that had been made.

There were No melodramatics, but the former Manchester Utd man mocked the big Swede for his actions. The video is here

Ronaldo butts Lustig

Now, with the previous history of Ronaldo, lets consider what would have happened had our man Mikael butted the Madrid player, who is such a likeable chap that no-one would ever want to spoil his pretty little face.

.7, most, pathetic, cristiano, ronaldo, flops,

Theres a few videos here as well.

ronaldo -7 pathetic flops

The man is no doubt a fine player, but has a thoroughly unlikeable hypocritical streak running through him that makes him a cert to be on the Celtic board when he retires.

Can’t let it go, not yet.

There were a few protests outside Peter Lawwells house at the weekend-handily for the board they chose a non-playing weekend to hold the AGM-after Celtics CEO helped to vote down the proposal that some of the behind the scenes staff at the club should receive a living wage, which caused him to review the security at his house;

Stung by criticism, Lawwell and his merry men have offered to put on a big Christmas party for the staff, as a show of good will;

and has promised them all a new uniform for next year, one which will convey the respect that he has for the work they put in.

In other news, a survey has revealed that the majority of teenage Second Rangers supporters are actually decent, law abiding citzens, and in fact, it is their kids who cause all the trouble.

Back at the football, which is in short supply this weekend, Efe Ambrose is celebrating booking his place on the plane to Brazil next summer. Nigeria finished the job on Ethiopia with a 2-0 home win, which made for a 4-1 aggregate triumph and sends them off to the finals again.

That means there is the intriguing possibilty of Celtics first choice defence all being at the World Cup, but , ย no-one else from the club. Except possibly Samaras.

Fraser Forster looks unlikely to displace Joe Hart from the England no.1 jersey, especially after the Chile game highlighted his reluctance to come off his line, but his time will come for them. and anyway, Harts bound to make an arse of it against Germany.

Big Lurch spoke glowingly of Hart after the match, saying that the calamitous keeper had ”ย ย ” talked to me a lot before the game and at half-time ”

That should help.

Right, well, Fraser will know better next time. Maybe take a book or something with you, big man.

Forster is likely to replace Hart at club level, so the conversation would have been a belter. Remember the name Abdisalam Ibrahim . He’s a midfielder and may well be offered as a makeweight in the deal.

What I need to do here is make a wee joke about Rangers not being the same club, and then if the lad doesn’t end up at Celtic, people will forget I ever mentioned him.

Peter, you have lost a lot of respect amongst the support-or your customers, as you refer to us behind closed doors, so have a wee think about your next move.

When Saturday Comes, a football magazine that is a little above most similar publications , and is aimed more at fans who like something to think about, carried this on its website;

17 November ~ย On Friday Celtic fans held demonstrations outside the Netherlands embassies in London and Dublin. They were demanding the release of two Celtic supporters being held without charge after their team played Ajax in Amsterdam at the start of November. The protest, backed by theย Celtic Trustย andย Fans Against Criminalisation, was in support of Padraig Mullan and Andy Vance, who were injured by undercover Duch police after being caught up in clashes before the Champions League match.

Backed with stories on CQN, in the Dutch media, and of course on this site, the campaign for their release is gathering pace, and even the MSM have picked it up-a mere ten days after the game;

” THE lawyer for two Celtic fans held in Amsterdam vowed yesterday both of them would be freed this week and branded the case a โ€œscandalโ€.

Christian Visser visited Padraig Mullan and Andy Vance in Over-Amstel prison to prepare a plea for their release when they appear in court on Thursday.

Vance, 21, of Blantyre, ยญLanarkshire, and Mullan, 28, of ยญBelfast, are charged with attacking police officers ahead of Celticโ€™s ยญChampions League against Ajax on November 6. Their lawyer will argue police got the wrong man when they arrested Vance and voiced criticism over Mullanโ€™s case.

He told the Sunday Mail: โ€œI have told Padraig and Andy it is obviously not my decision but I am quite positive they will be freed on Thursday. I think the case is a scandal. The Mayor of Amsterdam has also called for an investigation.โ€

There were 44 arrests โ€“ 28 Celtic fans and 14 Ajax fans โ€“ at the game.

Police claimed their officers were attacked but Celtic fans said Dutch hooligans and heavy-handed police were at the root of the violence.

Visser said: โ€œPadraig still has a broken nose which has not yet been properly dealt with. The inside of Andyโ€™s lip is blue and he has some loose teeth. But they are better than they were last week.โ€

The lawyer will also represent four other Celtic fans being prosecuted. All six are due in court this week.

Christian said: โ€œI am studying the files closely and we are building up towards Thursday.

โ€œAn item on Dutch TV was damaging for police. It shows what they wrote down in evidence is not what happened. In Andyโ€™s case, they seem to have arrested the wrong person.

โ€œThe guy who threw the can is described by one police officer as a man with blond hair and by one policeman as a man with red hair, but Andy has dark hair.

โ€œThe police officer claims to have been five metres from the man who threw the can says a Heineken can was thrown at him.

โ€œAndy drank Amstel from a red can at that time as footage proves.โ€

You get the feeling they really loved printing that. The whole saga is a shocking indictment of state of Scottish sports journalism, and just confirms what we all knew already. ”

A swift press campaign, backed up by a bit of investigative journalism, and it might not even have come to court. Sad that it took the Dutch media and some internet bampots to bring the case into the public eye.

Determined not to miss out on another story, the MSM are about to make a big splach on this young man, who they think has the ability to go all the way to the top of the game;

Back to the issue of Celtic fans interned in amsterdam, and their upcoming court cases, Celtic Research are doing their bit, and are seeking mobile footage from anyone who was part of this crowd;

Anyone who can help should tweet @CelticResearch

There will be a bucket collection at the Aberdeen game this coming weekend, and volunteers are wanted. This will raise money for those still in Amsterdam, to help with costs; You should email Dambhoys8@yahoo.co.uk if you can help.

Thats the thing with the Celtic support. We tend to look after our own.

Perhaps those temporarily running the club should consider this policy.

We’ll always be here. They won’t.

Surprisingly, no-one managed to arrange the words in yesterdays quiz into a message for the club stewards, though i think it was too easy, and perhaps everyone thought someone else would answer it. So today, lets look at this picture, which is from a movie.

Which film is this from ?

Has anyone still not asked the workers what they think & want think it would help if someone just said well we spoke to the workers involved & that they think they would like more money.
Can’t get head round minimum wage & living wage which one is law & firms/company’s need to pay it.
As said yesterday some of the workers might be on benefits and any rise they get might put them over that threshold and will either have to leave or lose there benefits.
I’m all for workers getting as much as they can but is it not the workers in any employment that starts the ball rolling and start to put pressure on to get a rise.

Thanks Ralph just know if person gets tax credits then a lot of things are either cheaper or free which I don’t think a wage rise would help as I know after paying for 2 fillings at dentist then there is the extra tax they would pay if it’s there 2nd job know that from working 2 jobs for 30 years..
Just hope that celtic are paying the minimum wage to there part time staff.

A really enjoyable read today. So much so, I have little comment to make as I would only make a mockery of an excellent diary. Besides, I am trying short in the hope of an odd post.

Is the film that great tale of the Old West “The Sons of Peter Lawwell”.
Or that horror movie “The Twisted Board”.
Or the film that wasn’t shown “Rejected”.

Ronaldo is typical of many Portuguese players, unfortunately. We’ve seen it many times, notably with Benfica, Boavista, Braga and Porto. Strangely, Sporting Lisbon aren’t quite as bad – must be the strip! I hate to see any player, including our own, feigning injury and timewasting. The Portuguese are masters at it and Porto sickened me aginst them and Mourinho forever. You don’t find it so much with their Iberian cousins, Spain. And let’s not forget Neymar is Brazilian. What language do they speak in Brazil?

Two Questions:
1 How much was pETER Lawwells Bonus this year?
2 Outwith Player Sales and Champions League Qualification how much Profit did the Club make this Season through normal revenue streams?

My Guess is the bonus culture is the main reason certain people are against a Living Wage for all Employees.
Call me an auld cynic if you like…..
