Dutch Courage

Dutch Courage.                                              November 2013.

Drinking, singing, peacefully, they wouldn’t be outdone

They party like no other, and were out again for fun

But the Mayor wanted order, and he ordered in his troops

And the ones, who were to feel that force, were the fans of Glasgow’s Hoops.

Horses charged, the crowd dispersed then came the armoured car

Fans left stunned as bullets flew and pierced the Old Sailor’s Bar

Ajax fans drew out their blades, glistening in the dark

Carrying on, from where they left off, at Glasgow Celtic’s Park.

Pick axe handles wildly swung, as children fled with mums

As fans and undercover cops behaved much worse than any scum

With cloak and dagger cowardice, they turned upon our fans

The unsuspecting Hoops attacked, bloodied faces cupped in hands.

Intent on taking liberties, they picked on those who were alone

These innocents were battered, as batons crushed their bones

Bars were closed and bolted, leaving stranded fans outside

Now face to face with Holland’s worst as their mates looked from inside.

Police dogs’ teeth tore into flesh, as police owners watched with glee

With others being punched and kicked, no hope of breaking free

Sickened and disgusted, Celtic fans could take no more

When man faced man, the cowards ran, which is typical of Boers.

Provoked at every turning, like a cancer, most maligned

“Fenian Bastards” read their flag but they won’t even get a fine

The slaughter of the innocents from an Orange firing line

And this cowardice of Amsterdam will live in Celtic’s minds.

Jailed for being a Celtic fan, that was their only crime

And even now, a faultless fan, serves out illegal time

Twenty eight arrested, it may or not seem much

But eight of those who wore the Hoops, were Ajax fans and Dutch.

The media showed our fans’ darker side with one side of the story told

No mention there of self defence, why not let the truth unfold

YouTube, facebook, private phones, find your evidence in there

But No! that would be justice and you’re quite happy where you are!

I posted a really complementary and smart comment but it has disappeared into the dark depths of the ETims dungeons.
Sadly you will have to be content with my congratulations for excellent words, both poetically and emotionally inspiring.

PB,

As I found out to my cost yesterday and today I think there is a 5-word limit to posts or something. Unless this somehow gets posted. All my Shakespearian words of pish gone forever into purgatory.
