Celtic Diary Wednesday March 8: Try A Little Bitterness

The word on the street is that there won’t be any Celtic supporters at Ibrox next month, as tickets for hoops fans have either been refused by the club, or not offered by the club/company.

This despite Stewart Robertson, the current voice of the current entity saying there would be.

Back in February, speaking to Sky Sports, probably thinking no one would notice, Robertson said;

“There will be away fans for the two games remaining.”

before adding

“It will be the allocation we’ve had for the last couple of years. Going into next year, and the succeeding years after that, as far as I can see it will still be at that level.

This was in response to claims that Celtic wanted 8000 tickets, simply not possible because the Ibrox club had already sold season books for all but a few seats, and Celtic seemed a little peeved at Robertsons words, or peeved at having to argue publicly with their business partners, because a couple of days later they responded with;

Further to recent media reports regarding ticket allocations for away fans at Celtic Park, to clarify, Celtic determines the allocation for visiting teams at Celtic Park and will confirm the position for future matches at the appropriate time.”

Perhaps Celtic have clarified their position, which seems to be 8000 or none, and perhaps the Ibrox entity wanted this so they can raise a few quid by selling the seats they would normally leave empty for stewards or security.

Or, as is suspected, Celtic could, officially or unofficially, win the league at their ground next month, and that’s a risk they aren’t willing to take.

Given how intimidated “rangers 2 were by a full house at Celtic Park in their 3-0  defeat earlier this year, it may be that the Ibrox board want to imitate how Celtic handled the occasion. We’ve already seen piss poor attempts at tifos, banners and fan celebrations , perhaps now there has been a shift from imitating Rangers to imitating Celtic…

The win at Livingston has shaken both the media and the Ibrox club.

One could be forgiven for thinking that they genuinely expected Celtic to slip up, and the more pragmatic approach from Postecoglou suggests he treated the game seriously as well.

Winning 3-1 and winning well has put Celtic in a very strong position, and the three point lead combined with a superior goal difference means that Celtic  have to drop points in two more games than “rangers ” do, which given the form of both sides is unlikely.

Especially as there are only eight games remaining.  Two of which are between the two sides.

Inquest after inquest in the media, especially the BBC Sportscene programme, featuring Stephen Thompson, (ex Rangers ) a hairt fellow (ex Rangers ) and Kenny Miller (ex both Rangers ) was never going to be impartial, and they didn’t even try.

They completely ignored this tackle, which merited a second yellow …

Doesn’t fit the narrative, you see…..

The sense of bitterness and impending doom oozed from the screen, and the impression that all was lost was written on their faces.

The Record did it’s bit as well…..

Image

Image

Never mind that the whole of the ball has to cross the line, or in the case of the corner that wasn’t, Livingston still could have defended it, the narrative seems to be shifting that the referees are either incompetent or biased.

What actually seems to be happening is that the media are feeding the fear from Ibrox and it’s support that their side isn’t very good, and that there isn’t any money to improve it.

Their criticisms of the referees have meant some of their own have turned against them, and since it’s not really Rangers anyway, previously shifted loyalties have shifted back, and apart from John Beaton, they’re not getting the help they were earlier in the season.

Beaton, incidentally, has been given the Dundee United -Celtic cup quarter final, presumably as it’s felt he can hurt Celtic more in a cup tie than in the league campaign, which is now looking like the best chance of a trophy for the hordes to celebrate.

Which is a pity, as the tie promises to be a cracker, and if Dundee united win on merit, as they are capable of, then it would be great for the game, but if they win due to an honest mistake or two, the game is the loser.

One of their support, Bill T , on twitter, explained , well, let’s say he explained things from a unique and refreshing angle.

Bill T
@Tyndale7
1. Rangers are 3 points behind Celtic with 8 to play. Yes, they’ve been profligate & gave away some stupid goals, but that’s only half the story.. Since the Celtic board called out refs in mid November, the vast majority of contentious decisions have went their way. Thread

Image

2 refs in particular were called out. Bobby Madden & Nick Walsh. A fortnight later, Celtic beat Hearts 1-0, thanks to an offside goal.. Bobby Madden was the referee…

Image

Image

Just to clarify, it wasn’t. But don;t let that stop Bill, he’s on a roll…..

3. Shortly after, Celtic beat Motherwell 1-0 with a goal from a dubious free kick. The away side were also denied a stonewall penalty.. The opposition manager bemoaned the refs decisions. This becomes a recurring theme…

Yes , it does. But not for the reasons he thinks.

Image

Not quite sure that’s a penalty. The player is on the way down before he is even level with Carter Vickers

Image

Alexander is surprised a free kick was awarded…normally they get away with that sort of thing.

Next up, Celtic beat Ross County with a goal which came in the 8th (EIGHTH) minute of injury time. Despite being over the added time, the ref allowed the corner which led to the goal… This is against the rules. Again, the opposition manager is justifiably aggrieved.

Actually, it’s not against the rules.

Image

Image

5. This clear & emerging pattern continued after the winter break. Celtic’s winner v Aberdeen should not have stood. Again, to the consternation of yet another opposition manager.

Image

Glass is no longer Aberdeen manager, and his comments are more frustration than fact.

Next up-Celtic get a 2 goal lead v Livi thanks to poor decisions..Again, yet another opposition manager complains.. That Celtic were in the ascendancy is neither here nor there That does not guarantee a win If the officials do their job, it’s distinctly possible they dont win.

He’s actually saying in that last sentence that despite being the better side, they should lose “ if the officials do their job

Like they used to, presumably.

And yes, the Livingston manager had a moan, but you’d expect that after his team got beat.

But at least it’s his team that’s getting beat, as it is with all the other managers.

For Bill T, it’s not even about his team, who rolled over and had their belly tickled at Celtic Park, it’s about Referees not doing their job…. which presumably involves penalising at even the hint of an offence.

Like they used to…. as he summarises…

In fact, since Celtic put public pressure on refs, just about the only manager not complaining..is the Celtic one If refs are brave enough to do their jobs,Gers are still clear, regardless of some poor play Celtic’s attack on refs is paying dividends-40 million to be precise..

The mention of the forty million shows you their real fear….they need it, or they’re going to go under.

Elsewhere. Neil Lennon has been handed a way back into management with Cypriot side Omonia Nicosia, and we’d like to wish him well.

Scott Brown, another great Celtic servant, had his contract mutually terminated with Aberdeen yesterday, signalling his retirement from playing.

It’s possible he’s off to join Lennon in the sunshine, but it’s also possible he’ll join the coaching staff at his former club Hibernian, with former team mate at Celtic Sean Maloney.

Radio Clyde’s Hugh Keevins, claimed the two were of different eras, but they were team mates for three years. Hugh is probably getting confused, but in fairness to him, no than than to be expected from a man of his advanced years.

Just the other day, the Diary mentioned that Brown was the kind of player Celtic were missing, and with Postecoglou clearly having taken other pointers from these pages ( No he fucking hasn’t -Ed ) , one wonders if Brown could surprise us all by joining the coaching staff at Celtic…

Shall we have a caption competition ?

Yes, we shall.

Impressed by the result against our ‘ bogey’ team on Sunday, especially James Forrest. Ralph did you mention the new club’s win over, was it a Dundee club, in 90+ minutes? A recently tired somewhat unconvincing Celtic has got its Mo jo back.

On behalf of GlassHalfEmpty Shamrock CSC…

I’ve been saying for months that all this forensic analysis on decisions which went Celtic’s way (whilst ignoring the many more which have saved/earned The Rangers points), plus the earlier “Kyogo is a cheat” lies – is all about creating a narrative which allows them to get away with more horrendous honest mistakes when it really matters – the 2 remaining derby games.

Also, I think it’s too early to be treating that +11 in goal difference as an extra point. If it’s still the same come April 3rd, then yes, it’s as good as a point in the bag. However – not that I think it will happen – but if the Huns won both the derby games 2-0 it would reduce the GD by 8. Then, all it takes to wipe it out is them to get another result like the 6-1 at Fir Park.

Call me a negative ol’ bassa if you want, but I won’t celebrate until it’s done – It’s too important for their survival not to expect all the stops be pulled out to stop us.

Carl? I note the glass half empty.Maybe that’s why you think that 4 goals for the Huns count double and reduce gd by 8.I know Celtic are getting loads of decisions for them these days,I’ve heard from mostly ebt recipients in the msm so it must be troo, but I don’t think they can even it up by doubling goals scored against Celtic? Anyway, two nil to them in both games? Nae chance….

Carl is correct on the goal difference; they would be +4 and we -4 so an 8 goal swing.
Won’t happen though so academic, ‘mon the Hoops!

Sorry but Rob is correct. You can’t take 2 off Celtic and add 2 Rangers* as that is 4. If we are plus 11 and we lost 2-0 to them we would be plus 9

Yes but its correct that its far too early to count the +11 GD as an extra point, as plenty of pens and oppo red cards can lead to 5 or 6 goal wins for them.

We shouldn’t count our chickens and the extra point just yet.

Ffs! We currently have a goal diff of +47 and the Huns +36. If we lose both derbies 2-0, our diff goes down to +43 and theirs goes up to +40 – so from 11 ahead to 3 ahead. Carl is right, it’s not rocket science!

I don’t believe one word all those Hun pricks in the media say – it’s like letting that wanker from follow follow write their articles. Nor do I think for a second Celtic have more decisions going their way. I also don’t see any way we’ll lose both games to them 2-0, but my maths are correct. Just warning that “honest mistakes” are likely to get worse in the coming weeks. As historical events have proved time and again – We can’t be paranoid enough!

I reckon you’re right, Charlie, as there’s been a clear shift in decision making in their favour since this most recent petulant outburst of theirs.

For evidence, there’s been a fair few decisions since which they’d have got last year and it’s been looking for a while now that everyone’s got a bit fed up with their over-demanding antics and are publicly giving them the stink finger to make sure they know who’s boss.

Haha, onky the Sevvies could come up with such a stunt only for it to backfire right in their stupid faces.

If we win the league at Ibrox then its beyond doubt that there’s a pro-Celtic bias.

re Martindale (festering Livi manager), when they lost 1-0 at Ibrox recently they were denied a stonewaller (that would’ve earned them a point, something they were never getting on Sunday, even without honest mistakes) but he was not asked and didn’t comment on it. It was ever thus.

Celtic by Numbers does articles on refereeing controversies, adjudicated by an impartial referee, and, at the last update (us against Dundee and them against United) it shows that we are 3.5pts worse off and they’re 1pt better off than it should be.

This is probably a lot less than a lot of us would imagine and we can disagree with some assessments but it shows that we should be 7-8pts clear in a period when supposedly we’re being favoured by officials, so when they’re up to their usual then this would be off the radar.

I was banned from commenting on Phil Mac’s site last week after replying to his thread about the U.K. and NATO’s meagre response to the Russian Invasion of Ukraine.
I agree the U.K. and it’s Allies should be doing more.
Phil took it upon himself to correctly point out the the Germans had sent some 5000 helmets initially as a response to the Invasion (German Law prohibited them from sending weapon’s at that time -this has now been addressed by the German State and they have since sent Anti Tank and Anti Aircraft Weapons do keep up Phil).
He rightly attacked NATO’s lack of a physical response and had a pop at the U.K. for also only sending equipment.
Perhaps the initiation of World War 3 by an armed response is forcing the delay
So I took it upon myself to enlighten him about the fact the U.K. (along with several other Nations including Sweden,Denmark,Canada and the US ) had in fact been trading Ukrainian Forces within the Ukraine since 2015 up until Feb this year and also highlighted the fact the Irish Government has ruled out “Military Support” of any kind but instead opting for “Political Support” despite Russian Naval Exercises being carried out 200 miles off the Cork Shoreline 3 weeks before invading Ukraine.
No mention of any of these key events in his vague ramblings about the current situation.
His response to this was to highlight the U.K. involvement with Saudi Arabia in the Yemen.
Deflection.
My follow up response to this deflection was to highlight his favourite Irish American President of the USA’s ongoing involvement in this very hypocritical venture also,
In light of his humorous highlighting of the German Helmets to Ukraine for comedic effect I made a point of asking him whether Ireland may be sending them 12 crates of Guinness and a Leprechaun Hat given their stance on Military Support to which he not only openly banned me for being racist but also took the liberty of removing what was clearly a joke from my original post.
For a guy who makes such a song and dance media reporting and his constant aspersions of Irish Racism within it you would think he of all people would know the difference between a joke based round the current events given his own remarks about German Helmet’s

Perhaps it best he stick to writing fictional novels down his word mines and leave the real mines to those who are actually trained to deal with them.

Nobody gives a monkeys about why Phil banned ye, Duncan, everyone on here knows you’re a racist, as you’ve been so keen to prove.

Besides, your observations on what’s really happening and why are just as skewed as the idiotically indoctrinated Phil’s, who still lauds & reveres the bourgeois Freemasonic British spy Eric Blair as some kind of a ‘prophetic hero of the people’ when the truth is he was just rewriting the scripts given him by his superiors in The Fabian Society.

I will admit, I laughed out loud the day Phil banned you though, as it was just a matter of time before your inherent prejudice leaked through.
