Celtic Diary Monday August 2: Anger Management

The media have begun to pile pressure on Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou. They couldn’t believe their luck as Hearts, inspired by Ibrox loannee Bobby Madden, scraped a 2-1 win on their return to the top flight.

Even without Madden, the iron discipline of the Edinburgh side would probably have seen them through, as they committed only four..check it…fouls during the whole game despite only having around 25 per cent possession on the whole game.

That should be applauded…although there’s a sneaking suspicion that Madden was behind that as well.

Curiously, the BBC, having brought back Sportscene from the new season even though bo one watches it, failed to mention the challenge on MacGregor by Halliday, although they did agree that the offside goal should have stood.

There’s talk that Halliday may yet receive a retrospective red card for his dirty deed, which interestingly would take the total of red card offences missed and corrected retrospectively by Madden to five.

Four of which were offences committed on Celtic players, and one by a ” rangers” player in another game.

Thats kind of…well…interesting.

The media though, can concentrate on Ange, who hasn’t had much luck somce the competitve stuff started.

We’re out of Europe due to a sending off..which was stupid on the part of Biton and a moment of inspiration..or a mistake…depending on how you look at it…because quite simply that tue could have been finished in the firat leg.

And should have been.

The league game was down to an influential performance by Madden.

Which won’t make the papers.

Neither will the story about Ibrox not displaying the name of the new league sponsors  ..which again affects all of us as businesses will ignore any entity that refuses to honour  a contract. With those at Ibrox ignoring that sort of thing since the company’s inception in 2012, largely due to a lack of punishment, a repeat was always on the cards.

Perhaps the SPFL should threaten to withhold prize money.

It’s  a major story, and there’s little doubt the sponsors will be furious. Perhaps they’ll withhold money…

All.of which should get the other clubs onside against the rogue company pretending to be a 150 year old club.

Maybe an intrepid hack could ask them what they think.

But of course, theres a Postecoglou to pick on and pressurise, amd they know that if they keep pushing, Celtic fans will be become divided..as you’ll see in the responses to this piece.

Even those who saybwe should criticise the board ..and we should..will find a platform in the media.

For now though?

It’s our turn to circle the wagons, even around the board.

Yes they’ve fucked up monumentally and it’s their decisons that have left us vulnerable to these attacks.

But now is not the time. When that time comes I’ll happily join in the executions, but not until then

If we accept we have to give the manager time to get it right, we must also accept that the board must be given a chamce to rectify theirs.

We’ve got enough enemies without turning on ourselves

Get the manager and players to stand in the centre of the park after or before every game with the message on their tee shirts. “Call It Out”. The SFA will soon get the message and so will the sleeket’s in the media. If the CEO will not send the message then the manager and the players should. 14 penalties to the cheats last year, 3-4 times more than any other club, it’s not embarrassing it’s cheating plain and simple “Call It Out”.

Questions, so many questions, like around a team of players out and not so many in, answers, never appearing. The out box full, the in tray empty. Tortoises move quicker than McKay, it must be in the water in the bored room within Celtic Park. The great communicator has fallen silent and using braille books to read to agents, hearing aids switched off and a Covid face mask with the off mic to mute his speech. So, that’s what he learned first off from his predecessor. Dom, the rugger guy your such a disappointment, as he joins the Ian Maxwell School of hiding. Stephen O’Donnell, He’s a great football writer, I wonder if he will write about all of the shenanigans going on currently at Celtic. “Is Celtic FC the new Third Lanark”, how to destroy a famous old club.
Instead of the Hi Hi’s, we could be The Lo Lo’s. From the very Top To The Bottom, inside two seasons. It was a rogue businessman that destroyed The Warriors, The Hi Hi’s, the similarities are well, similar.

‘Call It Out’ is the meaningless slogan of anti racism and no one ever calls it out.

I’d go for T shirts with the slogan ‘Sevco 2012: Stole Dead Rangers Titles.’

And on the back ‘Still Up To Their Knees In Fenian Blood’.

I think that gesture would Call It Out far better than all the futile shite we’ve seen so far.

“It’s our turn to circle the wagons, even around the board.”

“But now is not the time. When that time comes I’ll happily join in the executions, but not until then”

Complete nonsense.

When is the time to criticise then? Seriously, if not now, when? 2 CL qualifications out of 8. Do we wait till it’s 2 from 10 or 20?

They’ve had months to show that changes were being implemented – Lennon gone in Feb and a new CEO in since April – but by the looks of it, nothing has changed.

There is zero accountability for the position we find ourselves in. Peter’s “retirement” would have occurred if we won TIAR, so it’s no consequence of his complete failure as a CEO.

Ange will be the patsy here if things continue the way they are.

This article plans to creat an ‘US v Them’ narrative to absolve the board of responsibility.

In case you haven’t noticed, the Scottish media is, has been, and always will be, hostile to Celtic; same goes for the SFA and the referees. So pointing out injustices isn’t news and sure as hell isn’t sufficient justification for us to permit the failures and inadequacies of our board.

I mean, really, do you guys have zero shame?

I can only imagine that you have a relationship with someone on the Celtic board. Do you get heated seat, perhaps or some juicy transfer gossip once in a while for towing the party line? Because I sure as hell can’t accept on face value that any Celtic fan can legitimately hold these views.

Comforting lies or inconvenient truths?

What nonsense. The fans turning on NL has only seen our decline accelerate. Not saying we would have won the league but the pressure applied by the fans lead by some of our bloggers made matters worse IMO. It gave the want-aways the all the excuse they needed to lay down their tools. NL will take the blame. As regards PL, if he’s roommate for the failure to win the league last season and therefore achieve the ten then he’s also due some credit for achieving NIAR. Yes the Board can and should be criticized. The truth is we actually have no idea what is changing as we are not privy to what goes on at that level. We can speculate of course. Now is not the time for civil war with Board of management at Celtic . As for the Referees, SFA and Media . The anti Celtic bias has become more regular and more eggregious as well as the lack of accountability for the new club breaking all the rules most of the time. This is new and much more aggressive that it ever has been. The delayed red card has allowed several players stay on and help beat us in games then they get a belated red card. What I want the Board to do and DD is to speak out against the clear double standards and present evidence that we all see with our own eyes and make it public. To demand referring standards to be better so that competent neutral referees as the norm like in every other league in Europe. There is a lot they can do to put pressure on the authorities and they should. Start a civil war and play right into those who would see Celtic and what we stand for destroyed. I agree with Ralph time to circle the wagons around everything Celtic and hold DD and the Board accountable for what happens next.

Rolling Stone

Reply to  Broxburnbhoy

A couple of things:

I’m not advocating a ‘civil war’ as you put it. Rather, a form of accountability.

You say ‘now is not the time’. Then when? Give me a timescale.

As for matters going on behind the seasons – as you point out, we are not privy to that, but given the amount of change that was required and the amount of tangible change to date, I don’t think its an unfair assumption to make that the lack of change is representative of a lack of desire to change. It’s as you were.

As for our board speaking out. Of course, I support that. However, do you have faith in them doing so? If so, why? To me it seems aspirational in nature, as opposed to based on a conclusion reached when considering their historic actions on the subject.

5WA, Res 12 and countless other forms of cheating meekly accepted by our board.

I’d be interested to hear your views.

Sorry got cut off I question that would work very well as there is no Fergus to come in and invest and make more money. As for the board speaking up and taking on the authorities that I think is part of their job and their commitment to the well being of the club. If they fail to do that then I think they are failing to carry out their Board roles. I know they seem to have failed already and hope isn’t a strategy I see them having to speak out – my timeline for speaking out is now! A timeline for a campaign to remove the board if they fail to solve the problems and protect the club I would say by Christmas. I agree they are failing to do their part. They need to step up now or move on

I’m afraid the board have had more chances than I would care to imagine. The only time I can recall us being fully prepared for the season ahead was going into BR’s 2nd season in charge. What we are currently witnessing is by far the worst pre-season preparation there has been since we got rid of the Kellys and Whites.

I think their present strategy was pinning all their hopes on a complete punt of a manager (in European terms) and hope he would hit the ground running with what he had at his disposal (like BR, Red Imps 1st leg aside). The complete lack of urgency and forward planning is shocking and unforgivable. Not in only appointing NL permanently but in standing back and watching as he dragged all and sundry down the drain with him. Now we are paying a severe price.

In BR’s 2nd season we played Astana away with Bitton at CH again and, at one stage, looked in danger of losing a 5 goal advantage.

Maybe that was a one-off but we seem to be in a perpetual state of unreadiness.

Frank McGaaaarvey

That was one strange night indeed Cha. Think injuries played a part im yet another Bitton appearance at CH. Don’t think we had a clue how to approach that game, having the luxury of a 5-0 lead from the 1st leg. Heady days indeed.

The Green Machine

Their present strategy is to ensure Sevco get the Champions League money to keep them alive, the same as they did in 2011-12.

Even watching it at the time I was sure they threw the Inverness Casey game and only McCoist‘s managerial incompetence fvcked the plan, and Rangers with it.

It’s as simple as that and a blind cat on the street could see it.

What makes it worse is they have NEVER asked pointed (sleekit) questions to ANYONE employed by *rangers. If you remember one slug asked BR at his first press conference if he was happy being involved with a club associated with a terrorist organization and then walked out of the conference with a big grin on his face. It was a set up from day one to “get” BR…they were so afraid of what he might do.
Now *rangers are lauded for their “Anyone, everyone” stand against “racism”, but the same hacks don’t ever mention tens of thousands singing anti-Catholic songs in Ibrox….something that is completely audible to the listening world.

This must be the worst piece you’ve ever written Ralph. Do you really expect the board to start doing the right thing when the evidence is everywhere that they won’t. There’s been a complete lack of succession planning and transfers made not by the manager but by the board who have no expertise in football. Only rangers weakness masked how bad we were. And of course our lack of ambition in Europe (and the poor results which were a consequence of this) was nothing short of embarrassing. Fans should use whatever means possible to call out this board. I personally think it’s great to read stories about how the board are letting us down. I don’t care whose publishing – Daily Record, BBC, or even if it’s Dave King sticking it to them. Get a grip, the board are totally inept, they do not stand for Celtic Football club or the fans. It has been a plan of total downsizing and accepting the crap that passes for the SFA, SPFL and the Lanarkshire referees Lodge.
Time after time players have been assaulted, broken jaws, whatever and the CEO and Board prattle of for some mint lamb and wine. The media stance on the new manager is full attack mode, the Billy Boys Club Sportscene a retirement home for ex EBT men is pathetic, if th3 board had any interest the would control ant content that is supplied to the media.

Those responsible for strategic planning at the club totally failed. The minute Frimpong left a replacement should have been targetted. Similarly, Julien’s injury meant he would be out for 3 to 6 months. A replacement should have been identified. Eric and Jozo we’re allowed to leave, we used to have 3 centre-halves. Bitton has been used as a centre half for a couple of years. Apart from his occasional but regular aberrations he is a decent player. Incompetent planning.

“Back the board” would probably be a unifying slogan but perhaps with the majority adopting a Nelson Muntz attitude.

10 months ago it was clear we were headed for cataclysmic failure unless we dealt with the major issues proactively and professionally. We did neither.

About the same time we head hunted our new CE, the most senior employee, who whilst not having individual technical knowledge should have a breadth of knowledge and ability to know where to source the best expertise.

He should have performed his due diligence of where we were at and what needed to be done, so he could start his reign on a positive front foot.

He actually started work 8 month ago and although this was initially as a shadow of wretched Lawwell, he still should have been garnering the intel on ‘how not to do it’, so he could hit the ground running in his solo stint.

So far he’s had as much impact as a fart in a thunderstorm and looks every inch a like for like replacement.

That may be exactly what the board want, as they’re the ones that call the shots.

If now isn’t the time to protest this, you need to be honest and say that it never will be.

Oh yes, the support like to protest. My favourite was “Green and White the board are Sh!te” 93/94.
“Back the team sack the board” – 1993. and so on. But the thing that always stuck in my craw was when Peter Loyal was alway’s voted back on and always in big numbers, by the support in the hall, not just by other board members at the AGMs. You would sit with your arms tightly crossed, watching on as a sea of hands went up, “those in favour raise your hand”, whoosh, same with DD etc. It’s those pesky missing small Celtic shareholders, the 25,000 – 28,000 off them, if only we could get their addresses and send the Provo’s round to their front doors. There is a delicate balance here in that the current Celtic Board whilst they need hunted for the incompetent/negligent charlatans that they are it has to be done without causing damage to the new CEO and manager and so the team and the bfootball recovery that everyone wants.

So in that sense I get the reason for the sentiment that the current Celtic Board although professionally incompetent totally untrustworthy and deceitful, are a a necessary evil we need to live with.

I think we are fooling ourselve because we just want our good football back.

In this clip from Mars Attacks we are Jack Nicholson and the Board are the Martians.

https://youtu.be/MPMmC0UAnj0

Its time Celtic supporters wisened up to the current nature of the club we devote our love to, thinking they represent the best in us.

Quite simply they dont and the quicker we realise that and make a decision of what is more important – a favourite seat at CP or a resurrection of what is the best in us , the spirit and the ethos that conceived Celtic all those years ago.

No one who has followed the events since the AGM of 2013 and what they revealed can be in any doubt we have been living in a lie created by people of the lie.

It’s not easy to come to that conclusion because it means having to change a life belief that Celtic are the good guys.

They arent not under this Board anyway but as long as we make the football Celtic play the indicator or reflection of how good we are, then we will suffer when the football fails to live up to the expectations we have set as the benchmark by which we judge ourselves.

Celtic had it not strayed so far from the spirit that conceived it, could be a light in an ever darkening world, but until we as a support, nay as individuals, reflect on why we devote so much time and energy to them and to what purpose, hun skelpers or a reflection of the spirit that we believe makes us different, then the pain will continue until we reach the right decision.

Climbing off the pulpit I wandered on to with apologies to “that was a load of shite” thinkers, the only way to make this lot of charlatans accountable to us is to be resolute at AGMs or EGMs if a year is too long to wait and key , stop thinking they are a waste of time. I’m working on challenging that damaging idea.

There is no monetary reason why Celtic pursued the path that they took, that to me is another lie. The lie that we needed them to get into the EPL is rubbish. The fact is if they had chosen another way and not given them the helping hand with the BIG lie, then the Celtic we all want could have happened without losing out financially. If Scottish football’s big sponsors are only interested in selling hate, then tell them to Eff Off. Celtic alone could have gained entry into the EPL if they pursued it. If they wanted to just continue in the SPFL without them, then they would have had automatic entry into the CL. and as the share price showed without them, it actually increased.
Personally I, like most Celtic supporters would i think prefer Scottish football to be without the haters and return to the ethos that we believe in. Great post, keep up your great works.

It’s been the motto of Freemasonry since the shite began, Divide & Conquer’, swiftly followed by ‘Oreo Ab Chao’, Order Out Of Chaos.

So they create the chaos, just like they’re doing now, then they create the order, also like they’re doing now, except in this case it’s an entire ‘New World’ order but it’ll just be the same auld white for us only worse.

In fact, as their long con(vid) proves, it already is.

WHIT?
“If we accept we have to give the manager time to get it right, we must also accept that the board must be given a chamce to rectify theirs.” WHIT? A Board when Lawwell’s still there (hiding)?
Absolute PISH, Ralph.
“Rectify” should be Rectum-comfy, they all wear Brown Brogues, act like mason Shits and probably love it stuck-up-ems-arses.
Ralph, this is NOT what it is to ‘Be Celtic’.
To give the Board time, FFS?
I’d gie them time, wan by wan, Kingston/Erskine?
Wheeeeeeeee! “4.2 seconds, well done Peter, Byeeee, wont be missed”.

Anyone read Joe Hart’s entry at Wikipedia? He has been on the side for a while, error prone on a regular basis. In fact it’s a misnomer to say error “prone” as errors are a regular part of his game despite all his former many accomplishments. Is this really an Ange choice? If so, what happened to the “sweeper keeper” in the system favoured by Ange? If Ange didn’t make the choice, what happened to “I’ll choose a team on the basis of the long term picture, not just filling in on a short term basis.”? Talk of Scales is worrying too. Is he really Ange’s choice or more likely the choice of DD who is a shareholder in Shamrock Rovers? We need top players who have been playing on a regular basis to perform for us immediately.

The board ARE NOT CELTIC.

They are Sevco.

They are the scvm who left us in this position with their decades of stoic Masonic silence so come the fvck off it, Ralph, or we’ll start to think they’re paying you off too.

Fvck The Board.

Fvck Sevco.

Lawwell could put a stop to all this pish today by declaring Sevco to be the new club that they are.

FVCK THE BOARD.

LAWWELL OUT.

I am only asking when the Kelly,s /White,s got fucked out of Celtic Park was there not a big issue made after the mess that they left the state of the club in that no one owner will ever have the power to become an overall share holder of the club , so why has the absent land lord have so much power and i have read on a few occasions that if is is stepping down { D D } his son will take over is this going to be another Peter dosent work here any more , but he will be keeping an eye on his shares and his golden nest egg lets show the shower of shite who holds the power Hail hail .

Exactly right, John, we were led to believe that Celtic would truly be open to all with the support playing a major role in its future.

I sensed from the second Desmond showed up that we were in trouble but I never thought he’d treat us like a cash machine for his other unscrupulous profiteering ventures like he has.

But I always knew there was a high risk of a dynasty, but this chaos he’s lording it over now far outstrips even my darkest fears from back then.

And every time he’s spoken to the media, all he’s ever done is mock the support with his sly Masterful Masonic Speaking coming out the side of his mouth.

Now he’s saying that he’s more proactively involved in transfers and we’re meant to be grateful for it, that some billionaire con artists knows ore about fitba than a Director Of Fitba?!

He’s ripping the total pish out of us and I’m stunned that so few folk know it.

And now Ralph wants us to PROTECT him?!

As someone said elsewhere on this thread, Celtic cyberspace is becoming more bizarre by the day.

Oh Dear, Ralph’s been liquidated, but dinnie worry he’s coming back as The Ralph International Ltd.
and keeping all his titles that he’s won, as the best Celtic Blogger 9 years in a row.

His spokesman said, that he was going for 56, though still up to his eyes in debt and thinking of issuing another share’s for cash offer. Hello. Hello.

I can’t believe I’m going to write this but we get a better and far more honest assessment of the board and club in the last two articles from Tom English than the shite we’ve been fed off Ralph here today.

And I can’t thin’k of anything much more damning than that.

We see you, Ralph.

One thing first …

Can you give me one example of when the board ever backed the support?

When they weren’t calling us ‘racists’ over our outrage at the Tory ‘Lord’ (sic) Livingston or grassing us up to the cops?

Just one example will do.

Anyone ..?

Iancelt67

Not back the board for what’s happened back the board in not making anymore mistakes. They’re not going to budge it’s an autocracy we can’t shift them. You need to do something around AGM time.

The Green Machine

Reply to  Iancelt67

One example of them ever backing us, the support, Ian.

And we CAN shift them, easily …

We boycott every organisation they’re involved with like we did back in 94, banks, whisky suppliers, Sky, anything they have a hand in, we write to these companies and tell them why we are cutting all ties by cancelling accounts etc.

Also we don’t buy even one item of merchandise and boycott the Celtic stores.

Then we organise mass protests outside AND inside the ground with banners and jeers throughout the game aimed at Lawwell, DD, Bankier et al, interspersing the protests with renditions of all the Celtic songs.

We thought it would be along hard slog back in 94 but with the implementation of the above measures the situation changed almost literally overnight.

But you don’t remember that, do you ..?

Cos I’d you did you’d never say they can’t be shifted.

Because we’ve proven before that autocracies CAN be shifted and we can now make sure that they WILL.

And those who write articles asking us to back these parasites will not be forgotten in the aftermath.

Iancelt67

Well. We will see if results go south then there will be at the least protests, maybe an overthrow. I don’t think it will get to that but it could. Let’s hope we start picking up more players and results.

Results & performances would be a highly welcome, if highly unlikely, boost but they won’t change the fact that our club is being sucked dry by a parasite.

McCarthy be a good signing if we keep him fit. Hart has to be better than what we have so I’m happy enough with that

Another CB, right back and a striker as a bare minimum.

Hart on a three year deal, for peanuts, must have taken a big drop in salary to come to Celtic, that’s a big commitment. He will not be the sweeper keeper, so what, as long as he can keep the ball out the net, that’s all that he needs to do. Barkis and Bain couldn’t even do that.
McCarthy, on a four year deal as a defensive midfielder, brings experience and a physical presence, just what’s needed. Course there will alway’s be the moans and groans, but experienced players are needed now, one or two more? we hope so, with 3-4 weeks before the window shuts.

Stevie Woods, Top goalkeeping coach and Joe Hart, could be a great marriage. Speaking of goalkeepers, in September, the John Thomson memorial committee, the Celtic Graves society are having an 90th. Anniversary Pilgrimage in September to re-enact the three day 55 mile pilgrimage from Glasgow to Bowhill Cemetery, Cardenden in Fife, to celebrate the legendary goalkeeper.

The point is who scouted Barkas, who decided to spend so much money on him, I can think of at least 3 Scottish goalkeepers better than him and miles cheaper than him. Barkas is never a goalkeeper, you have to have something to work with, before you can improve it. Best to part company ASAP and at least try to recoup some wages.

On a happier note. Circumstance took me to Saltcoats today a tourist trap on the mahogany coast whose best days are firmly in the past. But there in what now passes for a high street is a statue of the Buzz Bomb. And it got me thinking, as a long overdue memorial was unveiled in the east end of Glasgow, what a fine thing it says about the people of that neglected wee toon that differences are set aside to acknowledge excellence in life. Bobby Lennox a Celtic great in sport and in life.

Joking aside. Auldheids post up the page, should be mandatory reading for every Celtic supporter and I hope that you show in your next Diary, or on it’s own article. Because….
“Your not Rangers anymore”, is the clarion call of the Celtic support. I see this new entity have become emboldened and are once again morphing into their old actions, like ‘Cinch’.
But, “Were not Celtic anymore,” as Auldheid states, for we have morphed into something else, retirement home for @rseholes, used to line just a few pockets and without paying due diligence to the club’s support, failing to recognise what the club’s ethos was. They pay lip-service to it. The 5Way Agreement provides the proof. Every club in Scotland wanted them back, especially those that run our club. The SFA – SPFL (the clubs), perhaps even UEFA have been poisoned with the scum that once plied their trade, here in Scotland. “Were not Celtic Anymore.”

With a song in my Hart.
Ray Daly, co-author of “Celtic and Ireland, in Song and Story”.
At its Hart, it is a love story, listen and read about the Leinster CSC, co – written by Wolf Tone front man Derek Warfied – diddly aye die die. Follow their many time journey’s into the Gorbals and the Gallowgate’s many bars as they reverberate to the chatter and the music of the many Celtic songs, like “The Celtic Song, Sean South, Willy Maley and The Soldiers Song”. The atmosphere must have been electric, the sounds of great Celtic men blasting out, immersed in the one time culture of Celtic FC. While Bridgeton Charlie and his family was dipping their pockets.
“Love Handles In The Bath”. straight from the heart, make me weep while apart.

Always cautious before judging people’s ability, but I like Ange’s honesty and his communication skills, relating to all things Celtic FC. Nothing is hidden and you get the sense that he is in full control over all things relevant to the team, players conditioning, new players in, his desire to bring other players and his own management team in. Just prove it on the park, confidence is key, a few wins and the teams confidence will take off. Phazers tae Malky.

I really want Joe Hart and James McCarthy to do well. Now they could be exceptional signings but as they say, “the optics aren’t great.” It’s conceivable that both will contribute masses to the cause but there’s no escaping it’s a risk – neither have played a whole lot of football in recent times, errors have been a major part of Joe’s game for a while and although he made some terrific saves for Torino it was his errors that were the decisive factor apparently in them deciding not to buy him when his loan ended and since then what? JMcC has been out a lot because of injuries and he’s had serious ones – at the hands (feet) of the opposition rather than the more sneaky type that you get due to lack of deep fitness in training, during the warm up etc like some of our players, but correct me if I’m wrong. james could be in for a lucky spell, let’s hope so. Remember when WGS was buying ‘has beens’ he used always say “He’s great in the dressing room”. But our players need to be great on the park first and foremost, what they get up to in the dressing room is secondary. I think Ange has said something like this in his latest interview so he seems to feel at this time it’s right to take the risk. You lucky folk who can attend live matches please cheer them on even after mistakes as it’s likely to be your main and the major non-monetary contribution this season..
